Heya guys,
I've got the ever present upgrade itch that everyone here must know about......
I'm really looking into a good phone camera that has decent battery life as well since I can't always bring me DSLR with me around all the time.
How development and everything for the One X? Battery life? I'm looking specifically at the international version.
Thanks
Development is great. Some solid roms for this device within the first month. Can't imagine what it will be like in half a year or when there's an s-off exploit found. Obviously the phone has some great attraction for some of the features it carries and the design.
On ARHD rom right now I get about 18-22 hours of battery life moderate usage, light usage a couple of days, and heavy usage about 10 hours. I'm very satisfied with this phone. Some other people can drop there comments and let you know; also, there's an official reviews thread you should probably check out.

whats the screen time like when you use it heavily (as according to above 10hrs phone on but how long for screen?)
hmmm
any major bugs? I'd like to try sense out as the only HTC phone that I've used was my mum's Desire Z that I automatically flashed CM7 on back when she had it.
I've "heard" that there are some screen flickering issues and launcher reloading.....
any comments would be greatly appreciated
I've had my One X for 1.5 weeks now and zero problems whatsoever I get about 12-13hrs from the battery with 3-4h screentime

Here's some info on battery life. It's better than the GN. But the GN has the option of extended and replacable batteries which the One X doesn't.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25725630&postcount=25
As for the camera, I don't think it's finished yet. There's been discussion about noise and compression. Some of the pics I've taken in iffy light haven't been that great. The h/w's there I think the s/w needs some tweaking. If you could live with the camera on the GN the One X will be a step up.

Ahhh thanks. But i guess i could circumnavigate the integrated battery by having an external portable battery pack....hmmmm
Tough choice. I'll wait for some more comments and opinions first

Watch reviews and videos about the s3 vs One x phones..then make your decision. I would say One X. Good phone solid great specs and if you are a gamer you will be happy with the Tegra 3 chip...Battery life is solid so far no complaints. Development i am sure it will pick up...So its down to you my friend

I'm definitely let down by the S3....its seems so similar in many ways to the GNexus that I wouldn't consider it as an "upgrade". I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people without smartphones though.
the HTCOX screams of something desirable to me.......still hesitant though right now
keep those comments flowing in please

The 10 hours probably around 5-6 hours of continuous screen display running videos, games, and other tasks. No sense issues at all except for it uses a lot more battery than pure ics. The screen flickering is unconfirmed as to what is the underlying issue (software or hardware) related. HTC is looking into the screen flickering right now, and launcher reloading I've never had.
I'd say wait 1 month.
QC issues iron over time. S-OFF is not ready as yet. The lack of such 'freedom' will be shocking to a GN user.
Custom ROMs for this device are excellent both in quality and quantity. This is a very popular handset, thus community support is very high.
Battery life is really good. Depending on screen usage you can get 1.5 days usage easy. Heavy usage will obviously reduce that by a lot.

OK so I have a galaxy nexus and got it on launch back in november. I picked up a one x because I really liked the look of it, but so far I can't decide which phone to keep.
The One X is great because it’s lovely to hold, has a fantastic screen and a very decent camera. But the software lets it down – and that’s not some lazy complaint. I’ve owned the phone for two weeks. Whilst Sense 4.0 is a big improvement over previous versions, I still struggle to find any part of it where it’s better than stock ICS, except perhaps the lockscreen which allows multiple targets. But that functionality is common in custom ICS ROMs anyway.
Stock ICS is, I feel, about as good as Android could be at the moment. This makes having to put up with the unnecessary ‘embellishments’ and changes on the One X is frustrating. HTC’s launcher is also considerably laggier than the stock Android 4.0 launcher, and whilst installing Nova launcher helps, I’m not sure why HTC felt the need to use their own anyway.
I must say I totally agree with The Verge’s conclusion on the One X – with stock ICS, it could be the best Android phone ever. Until then… Im just not sure which phone to keep!

I'm in the same position, I'm really not sure which one to keep either - I suspect I will still be saying the same in two months time though!
HTC should have gone out on a limb and developed a dual boot - let the users decide whether they want to run sense or stock.

Yeah I've had the phone nearly a month and still can't decide! Argh
Someone's developing a CM9 port over at Modaco and it's getting close to finished (just a few bugs left to squash). So if it's good enough, I might just install it and sell the Nexus.

thanks
any other comments? battery, camera, screen etc? usability?
I've only used an older version for a few minutes, but on the surface everything works fine. It's mostly just odd bugs they're sorting out now. I'd link the thread, but things are a bit iffy between XDA and the developer at Modaco.
Either way, back on my GNex now and it feels like an old friend. Love this phone.
What's up fellas?
I'm currently using Sony Ericsson Arc S and to be honest, I'm not happy with it.... I put my phone on sale and I got an offer. Someone wants to exchange his Desire HD to my Arc. The hardware is pretty identical, processor(Arc has 1.4GHz Snappy, but basically it's just factory clocked 1GHz one). Both are about the same price when new.
Does this phone have something really worth... Desiring?
DHD has a lot more roms than Arc, and it's something I like.
Thanks!

The DHD is an amazing phone with a lot of awesome, stable ROMs for it. Including ICS. But it's slowly becoming a legacy device. Many of the devs who used to make the best ROMs a few months back have now moved on to other devices. Mainly HTC One X and One S. In terms of Gingerbread ROM development, the DHD has reached a state where many of the GB ROMs available for it are in a very stable state, and there's not much to be done with them anymore in terms of bug fixes and new features. The DHD will receive one last round of development when the official ICS upgrade (announced by HTC) is released, which will help mainly to fix the camcorder in all the existing ICS ROMs by providing the required driver. Right now one ROM still going great in terms of development is IceColdSandwich by LorD ClockaN, which is a the best ICS ROM for the DHD.
I'm basically telling you the scene with DHD development right now, so that you can make up your mind better. If you can manage to get a newer generation device in the next few months, then I'd suggest you hold off this trade and get a new device once for all. But if you have no plans of getting a new device, then I'd say trade. The DHD is an awesome device with a very strong build quality and great performance (depending on ROM and kernel used). Feels very solid in the hand. Though it received dreadful battery life reviews when it was launched, that hasn't been a problem for me in a long time. I can get 1+ day with light use and 8 hours with very heavy use. The processor can be overclocked to 2 GHz too (if required) depending on the kernel used. I'd prefer it over the Arc S any day.

Aye, overclock the DHD to 2 Ghz if you wanna FRY your phone, or if your lucky....just reduce the life of it by 90%.
With the mentioned ICS build....yeah, go for it, but don't exprect to be able to take pictures, take videos or read Sim card contacts etc etc.
HTC Desire, for me, using NON-ICS Roms has been AWESOME. Solid build, feels quality, fast etc...if I had a choice i.e. money wasn't object....I'd get the HTC One X...but still keep my Desire HD as a 2nd/backup phone, coz it's sooooo awesome and reliable.
Matt
Yeah, the thing is that Arc has dozens of roms, but it its always slow. I don't know why... I've read a lit of people telling how great Dhd is, and I'm pretty sure it beats Arc. I don't know, they're about the same price, do there's not much to lose... I'll go for it!
Thanks for in fo guys. I'll trade my Arc to Dhd. I'm gonna buy newer phone later.

It has been about 8 months since I've had a "modern" Android phone, I was really frustrated with the lackluster experience of my Tmo Sensation--it was a dual-core but it honestly didn't seem much better than my Mytouch4g, or my MT3G slide. Many times I would find myself with a laggy experience, which is why I am so hesitant with newer phones still...Well that and the level of development is normally a tadd sketchy and rough around the edges for T-Mobile devices.
1. Is there a high interest in development?
-I know this may sound like a silly question, however it's essential for me because I have had terrible experiences with Samsung dev support for the two Sammies I've owned(Sidekick 4G+Galaxy Player 5). I know the S3 is from may but I would really hate to spend all this money just to find out it's development will play out like the Sidekick 4G's did(never passed froyo, and the player never passed ginger).
2. Bleeding: Is screen bleeding a common issue, and if it is does it get worse over time?
3. How do you guys feel about the CPU/GPU? (can anyone tell me the "min" cpu value?)
4. How do you feel about the screen quality?(this will be my 1st AMOLED & 720P device)
5. Do you experience lag? (if enough people say there's lag that will really turn me away--it's one of those nitpicks that I will not lose...I mean I have a iP4 that's smoother than recent phones--which is saying a lot honestly. )
6. Can someone please explain the whole IMEI loss to me? ( I am willing to remain stock if it means Devs can find a solution--I've rooted, flashed, adb'd, and what not many times but the risks are higher with the S3)
7. If anyone of you are using a S3 in nyc, can you please tell me what kind of data speed it's tugging?
(my sensation had pretty bad 4G/HSPA+ #'s which is why I'm asking this now)
8. Is the 2GB RAM a superfluous feature, or does it partially future-proof the device for 4.x or 5.x?
I know I am asking a lot from you guys, though you have to understand that I don't want to get trapped in a renewed contract with a device that will be cut loose only a few months only after release. I am not into the whole scam of receiving 1 update(as in going from 1 android ver to another) and then never hearing of anything again.
Bump. Doesn't anyone have any input about this phone? -_-
Most if not all of your question are answered in other post, people just get tired and rewriting everything. So dont expect the same questions to get answered every time.
So your coming from some less desired devices, you will deff see dev support on a much higher level. I mean this is the Galaxy S 3 not some low end device.
My advice is make the jump or go try it for the 14 days and return if ya dont like it ( i bet you will like it).
Well good luck,

That's what people said about the Amaze 4G, Rezound, Galaxy SII(tmo), and Galaxy S Blaze...Those aren't low end but they never took off development wise. I am wondering whether or not Devs are scared away due to the S4 being in the Galaxy instead of the Exynos--so far I see about 20+ ROMs for the int'l S3 and 1-5 active ones for this S3. That is why I show great hesitation with new Android phones, their futures are always uncertain if the device isn't international or a Nexus. I tried this device briefly at a tmo store and I though it was really okay, but that's cause it was hooked up to a display stand so I couldn't get a real feel for it.
I came from the sensation to the S3 and am very happy.
It really all comes down to how you use your phone. I did like HTC sense, and sense 4.0 was nice through some of the custom roms available.
But the S3, in my opinion is way better. But its going to come down to your personal opinion.
I have not had any problems with the phone- granted I got it 2 weeks ago and not at release so I haven't had it too long. But still no problems.
THe screen is very nice, again in my opinion. There are some that say they don't like it and it could be better.

Well since you've owed a Sensation, can you tell me if you notice a difference in performance. I mainly ditched the Sensation because it didn't seem very fast, it lagged very often but keep in mind this was before ICS was out for it. Honestly I have lost faith in Qualcomm's competence--they really threw me off when they made their S3's as a A8/A9 design.
Thats probably one of the main reasons I switched from the sensation... that and i couldn't seem to find one with a speaker phone I could actually hear...
I haven't noticied any lag at all on the S3. Not like the sensation. It was definitely noticeable, esp on the stock rom. I've only had S3 for about 2 weeks and love it. I haven't tried any custom roms yet, but have rooted and installed google wallet which works great. I still haven't tweeked it too much or loaded it up with apps and media.
Keep in mind, you have 14 days to decide if you like the phone.

On another note. I average 18+ hours of pretty decent usage.

Well I am happy to hear that it's not a mess like the Sensation. It had a nice look to it, but speed wise it was a joke for a dualcore phone. If you say there's no lag on ICS, then I can only imagine what would happen if it got JB+project butter. I guess you have put my fear of lag to rest. However I will wait a little while longer to see if Dev support picks up, right now it seems to be where tmobile's SII+amaze were at in their early life(which was a bad place). Once I see at least 10 active aosp/aopk/CM10 ROMs I will definitely get one. Thanks for everything! :fingers-crossed:

1) The phone has been out for a month so development is merely getting started. It will pick up as time goes by and we will see major roms like cyanogen andothers here (CM9 already and cm10 preview available). Many custom made kernels out there that are amazing.
2) Haven't head of screen bleeding on this device and mine (2 days old) has none. Be warned if you have not heard about the black splotches look into it. When screen is on and completely black you may notice some black splotches around the screen (you wont notice on day to day use unless you try to look. Every device varies you might get one with minimal blotches. This is a side effect of the AMOLED.
3) I believe stock cpu was set at 1.4ghz and I'm not sure what min was. Currently have mine overclocked to 1.89ghz max and 385mhz min.I camefrom the HTC one S and they have the same cpu. The snapdragon S4 is a powerhouse bro you will love the fluidity and performance here,
4) I first compared my HTC One S HDLED screen to my friends samsung blaze and I fell in love with the AMOLED screen. It is just has more POP and vibrant colors. You will love it, idk how anyone can dislike this screen it is beautiful and blasphemy to those who use it on anything lower than max brightness.
5) Only time I have experienced lag has been when messing with the CPU clock and when my min profiles are set on setcput to anything lower than 1ghz
6) As far as I know the IMEI loss has been happening when flashing recoveries or flashing cyanogen using a recovery other than CWM. I Rooted and flashed CWM with no problem. Still havent flashed CM9 until it is more "complete" and I make sure the IMEI issue is not ROM flashing related. (again i have been browsing the forums for only 2 days so im still learning the issues here)
7) I live in the Bronx and work in Manhattan. The data speeds in my apartment suck compared to my HTC One S. I was getting 2-5mbps down and up on it but on the S3 I am rarely pulling past 1mbps down and up. This doesn't matter to me as I have wifi on 24/7 at home. At work (85th and Amsterdam I pull an amazing 15-20mbps down and 3-5mbps up in that area. I go giddy when doing speed tests at work.
8) No device is future proof but the 2gb will help keep the device more current as different Android versions are developed. It is also beneficial when dealing with many apps opening one after another multitasking and such. IF you are a power user it is beneficial. To most it's the same as 1gb
Hope I've helped.

Thanks for answering all of my questions. From all of the responses it sounds like I will be able to get the S3 without having to worry anymore. However I hope tmobile increases the 4G speeds in the bronx to match those of manhattan at least. :fingers-crossed:

You are welcome bro. Don't get me wrong most of the Bronx does have terrible speed in comparison to Manhattan but there are a few areas where the speeds have surprised me. Like a train stop away from here I get great speeds. 10mbps on avg.

the only problem i had and it happened with 3 from tmobile was the phone was getting very warm. so i got the note from t mobile and the performance difference is very noticable. the s3 is a power house fast internet load speeds smooth and the screen compared to the already beautiful screen on the note is sharper and brighter. I had the black crush issue with the note blacks were horrid so i received another s3 today i have them both in front of me and love em both but am gonna stick with the s3 because of the performance and the screen. If the new note has the inners of the s3 and a 5.3-5.5 inch screen the s3 will be history i love the size of the note..what im trying to say i would not buy a phone with anything less then the s4 snapdragon in .Plus if you want to upgrade the s3 will be desirable and hold its value for a while so you could sell in the future for the next best thing..
Can anyone confirm there HOX hasnt set on fire? Just kidding - I started this thread because I want to know if other user experiences on different Roms are the same as mine.
Firstly / CyanogenMod base roms - super fast lag free but for me super hot cpu and massive battery drain. I mean massive, not usable prob 8-10 hrs if you dont use. 4-5hrs if you turn the screen on for 30-40 minutes and when you do the cpu gets hot, really hot. 75 degree Celsius. Battery hot as well. My experience is based on paranoid android and it tends to get hot while charging as well. I do not think heat is a very good compatriot to your hardware.
JB Sense roms - cool battery & great endurance times. Havent had to check on cpu temp because all great in this department, BUT not without problems in other area's. "Laggy", not any improvement from ics if anything worse. Leedroid was better than the current sense base rom i have now. But InsertCoin JB out dose ICS in the battery life. Wifi hogging which there is now a supposable fix with the latest firmware update. But it doesn't take much reading within the JB forums to find new sets of problems with the new firmware update. Which brings me to my conclusion.
Trade offs - all in all when you take into account the hassle of firmware updates that resolve one problem but bring another and the list of differences between JB sense base and CyanogenMod base roms, for me there always seems to be this trade off. There's sacrifices and consequences to both sides of the fence. IF only the developers could merge these two different bases we would have a wonderful android experience. At the moment I am finding this all to be too much work. The constant updates, full-wipes, re-flashing, trials and more trials all adds up to a lot of time and effort and is only going to drive me away from the beautiful, lovely HOX. I have the nexus 7 which does not give me all the work. You try the roms of choice and are able to live with it. Now I am thinking the nexus 4 is the way to go.
I cannot write code and know nothing about developing and I know the developers answer to all this is the hboot firmware and htc as the problem. But I question you this if you are a developer listening. Why is there a fence between CyanogenMod and Sense when both of you are using the same firmware? If one of you brought the two together you would make a killing.:highfive:
Off subject - what does Member - OP mean. On Probation.
cm10 runs great for me, but it would be nice if the compass worked

Yes another trade off. I cannot live without sense camera and descent weather app.
HTC kernels have the best battery life, so until the HTC JB kernel source code is released, AOSP based ROMs will likely have worse battery life.
As much as everybody likes to deride HTC coders, they actually do a pretty good job. You may also find that the AOSP governors are geared more for performance than battery life, and changing the governor might help.
Ultimately battery life and performance IS the trade-off. Of course, pure optimisations are always possible, but often it's just moving the trade-off point.

Thanks for your explanation. It goes a long way in helping understand, especially the point moving the trade off point.
I know the developers are very skilled and I am not clever enough to deride them. But from a consumers point of view, unless you buy a fully unlocked device you are in for a long sometimes arduous learning curb especially if you unlock your device in preparation for using these custom Roms.
I among st my friends was the first to discover this world of android. Cant remember the htc phone it was on at the time, it was a bit sluggish. But immediately I new it was a winner. Soon as google linked there name to a phone i knew it was time to jump on board with the nexus one. I think there may have been 5-10,000 apps.
Hell a lot of people if not most cannot afford the time or energy to learn. I have found it fascinating but also have now realized how much time android consumes. To much.
My opinion for what its worth, can only see this not getting any better. And unless one jumps back into the nexus range, windows is looking like the better deal. Windows is sure to gain market share and along with it comes all the apps. Almost guaranteed with windows and its structures will see far less aggravation and things will just work and at speed. There wont be these trade offs. Android needs to pull it together and change strategy fast because on the present cause that big lump Steve Balmer was right. Android is just darn to complicated for most users.
Its not complicated and its fun but im sad to say, there comes a time when there is no time and you are going to want something that just works and it still isn't Apple.
Androids future should be getting rid of these trade offs. 75-80 degree Celsius should not exist as a trade off for performance and please don't say try another kernel.
Change course- make things just work! Stop these half baked Roms. Give us the real thing. I would be happy to pay for that......

When I first got my HOX (I had it pre ordered) and I unlocked and tried my first ROM, viper X or leedroid I think (can't remember) , since then and the available roms now, there is a HUGE improvement. Just the fact that I can install another OS on my phone is awesome...Give it time and there will be perfect Roms. But that said, any software, there are bound to be some bugs.... Yes it is time consuming testing different roms but you can generally find out from the forum if its worth the effort before downloading and flashing...

Are you saying you have experienced some of the bugs. Would be nice to know which one's. I love and enjoy my hox as well but there comes a point with time. You obviously have lots of. My prediction is windows is coming and rather than taking a huge bite of Apple it will be at androids expense. These Roms are to buggy.
Hi everyone ,
I want to buy a new phone in a few days, and I choose between One x and S3,I know thath there is a lot of topic like this but I searched and rly cant find anything thath will convince me to buy one x or s3,just to much similarities.
So ,How I see S3 is smoother and has better batery life ,I dont care for camera and microsd slot ****s,32 or 16gb enough for me.
I will root and install custom rom when I buy on of these,so I wanna know with custom rom on ONE X how much is battery life improved and multitasking in compare with s3.
One thing I prefer on one X is design.
Pls give me some benchmarks and good advices
Tnx in advance and sorry for my english
yes the galaxy s3 has better screen on time but on , idle one x is unbeatable, benchmark score? i get over 6900 points with ordroid, another reason is SENSE!:laugh:
I would definitely have to recommend the GS3 and that's wbat I've done when friends have asked me. The only thing better about the X is it looks WAY better and the camera software is a bit faster. The GS3 beats it easily in every other department.
I still find it amazing how you can have lag with a quad core 1.5GHz phone...
Might seem redundant, but it seems that the hox is indeed the best device of the year, despite all the bad press, locked bootloader and haters. I know its been said before, but with no fan boy intenteded, it has the best build quality screen and sense. On top of that the best community
After the hype died down most competitors were exposed as no match or faulty in Severe ways, the hox was like one of those movies when the hero goes from heaven to hell and then triumphes in the end.
Guess now im a proud user. Well done htc, well done
End of pretty random post lol

Posted in the mega thread not by me
Skydragon team
Tnx guys, can someone who use custom roms tell me does it fix lags and enhance multitasking.
it's kinda hard decision but I would recommend hox and here's why:
1st hardware is better then on s3
2nd design is also better along with build quality
3. hox has better display then any other phone due time , it's even better then DAN's display , brighter and colors seams to be better. only thing that's better on DNA is ppi and full hd obvioisly.
now why I recommend you hox is cuz I have one running ics ( still no update for me lol ) and I'm not experiencing any lag at all + I'm using underclocked kernel ( ncx ) 1.2 ghz as well my Rom is cleaned by Rom cleaner so it's super light and my battery life is great my top is 6hrs 1 min auto brightness black pearl Rom , now on the other hand my cousin has hox with jb on it and his hox is way faster then mine in every way possible and lastly brother of my causin has s3 also on jb anyway it's fast but I kinda feel hox jb is faster then s3 jb btw my cousin also reaches around 5-30 , 6 hrs screan time. As far as you trust in benchmarks hox rapes s3 even mine owned it with renovate Rom + faux kernel , my top was 6650 quadrant ics ! while my cousin pushes around 7k 7.1k on jb as for s3 top that we saw was 5.5k 5.7k jb ( btw even gsm arena did comparison btw s3 jb and hox jb which proven that hox is much faster ) if you want games a lot s3 is kinda better since hox uses 24 bit and 32bit while s3 uses only 16 which is main issue for hox users , literally none games are optimised for 24-32 bit which bugs it and sometimes could lag in those heavy 3d games , I guess we need some hax for t3 as how Sammy did with Mali 400 , same chip new software better performance , anyway tegra games work perfect for us ( at least for me ) I hope this answers to all of your questions , if you have any other feel free to ask.
@op sorry to be a kill joy but we have seen enough of these on here and this will probably be closed now, if you want help deciding, google "Htc one x vs SGS3" review for a completely unbiased opinion. Anyone on here including myself will tell you the HOX is better but thats what you will always get on the HOX forum!!!! I'm afraid most of us on here are biased
Also get the HOX!!!!! :good:
Enough of this threads available on xda.
