Hey all, my girlfriend wants better battery life on her Nexus. What ROM and kernel do you guys recommend?
Tell her to try it for herself. Every phone is different, thus they react to ROM differently. Only way to find best ROM is to try all out.
I would personally start with something popular, like AOKP, cm, and code name
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Trinity Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
In before the lock.
good day.

Slowly?
I recommend just leaving her phone stock and not touching it. Otherwise you'll have to do everything phone related for her.
Maybe she should adjust her settings (sync time intervals), extended battery.
But.... CM10 + Franco or trinity.

Stock JB with leankernel if you want some options, otherwise just stock JB.

OP no one uses their phone the same as your girlfriend and therefore cannot tell you what will get the best battery life for her. All ROMs are the best but every user and every phone react differently to every ROM and kernel. You will need to try for yourself or herself.
Thanks

Had the same problem. Most processors and radios have low power modes, they are somewhat complex to implement and I suspect Samsung hasn't gotten to it yet (or finished it).

As far as I know, this is normal for a lot of Samsung phones regardless if you are on gb or ics... It happened when I was stock on my phone (for the first two hours lol) and my woman's og epic... It seems to even itself out after awhile.

No unnamed Rom battery was twice as better as this ics but it will take some time to tweak the kernel and Rom we just have to wait.

on CM9, if you install setcpu, and change your governor to on demand or conservative, your battery life goes up big time..
can't speak for these FB leaks, as, I am not going to install them for awhile..

I really wanted more options on pull down menu, so went with Dark Side
im running Darkside Evolution II.. it's very stable and quick. it has the features i need and suits me well..
before this i really liked Juggernaut 5.0 and SlickMod
Can't wait to try AOKP but I'm not gonna flash it yet

I have flashed just about every JB rom and kernel yet nothing compares to running SlimICS 4.2 and Franco Milestone 4. It is absolutely the most stable, clean and the batter life is off the charts.
Anyone else not really that into JB and sticking with a solid ICS setup?

Omg I just flashed Super Dooper Pooper ROM and Fasturz kernel.. its so smooth!
Give me a break. These ROMs all come from the same source with about 1 feature differing from each other it seems nowadays.
But any who I'm running trinity kernel and rasbean jelly.

Have you flashed Slim? Why u such a douche nozzle?

Been using SlimBean and the battery drain is too much for me. Also too many little issues with Play store etc.
I am sure I will get to he just like SlimICS soon. I just really like the small file size, stability and reliability. This combo works. I don't use Google Now and don't use voice features etc.
Just curious if anyone else uses this combo. Also love the smaller dpi. Just all around solid and like the dev read my mind. Love it!
I need a specific ROM that could fit my needs for my S3. I need something where I could either overclock my device, use the multiple apps in one screen (split screen or two apps on one screen), has Touchwiz 5.0, Jellybean, etc. I also want something with features similar to the Note 2 as well in a hybrid form. Thanks for any suggestions.
Serenity 1.2

Why not get a Note 2? It will satisfy all your requirements.
Serenity 1.2 on S3 is the closet thing right now, but Multiview is WIP.
Work in progress, oh ok, makes sense. Well I hope they get it done soon. Thank you. I just bought the Note 2 today for a family member.
How do you use Multiscreen?
Not really sure, but on videos I see, long hold back key.

Not working yet either. 1.2 is basically a port of a JB rom. Little things here and there but the features people are striving for are broken.

How many of you guys use tethering with your Nexus?
As I sit here in the waiting room, waiting for my girlfriend, I decided to tether to my n7. After 1:40min my battery is down to 35%
Is this normal or is there something wrong?
What kind of battery life do you guys generally get when using rasbean and the trinity kernel?
Thanks guys for the feedback

This is normal usage with stock settings and stock battery. But I do not tether.

wow, I wish I could get that kind of battery life
I have to carry 5 batteries just to last the day...
But I remember getting 17 hours, but mostly standby with maybe 1:30 of screen time
are you using stock battery and have you tried the no-name brand?
