No more 4G after flashing - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I helped a buddy of mine flash his phone and root it but he claims that 4G is gone after flashing.
He is with fido, I don't know if it's the same as rogers.
I use odin to flash his phone with CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v5.tar.md5
And then use TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5.zip for recovery
Maybe these files are not compatible with fido?

Have him check his IMEI in Settings, About Device, Status and see if it is a string of numbers or zeroes. If zeroes, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997

Have you tried creating a new APN? Some ROM might not include the correct APN setting. I am linking an external link (safe), which I cannot confirm the validity: LINK
I can confirm the wap.cingular works for me, but according to that link, I am not getting the H+ or LTE. But I really don't want to risk having my data plan changed (I still have the unlimited $10 plan from a long time ago).
Hope this helps.

HELP - Softbank HTC Desire HD - 3g not working after radio update

I have recently bought a HTC Desire HD phone from Softbank in Japan. I have rooted the device successfully and installed Cyanogen 7 Nightly ROM and everything was working fine, However the battery was draining crazily. I found from one of the threads that to fix the problem i need to update the radio. Hence, I updated the radio to 26.04.02.17_M2 as suggested by many people.
Ever since, I am not getting my 3g signal at all, however I can make phone calls and connect to wifi.
I tried installing a different ROM Leedroid 1.5.1 and same problem persists.
Current config
baseband : 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
Android : 2.2.1
Build: 1.72.405.3 CL296490 release-keys
Million thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction on how to sort this issue.
Help please
I have found that the problem is connecting to softbank APN. Any help??

Softbank restricts MMS applications using a custom User Agent string. This is probably why it's not working but I'm not sure if someone has created a customized MMS APK for your ROM.
I think I know what the problem is, but to really help, I need to know which country you are currently resident in.

The easiest way to use MMS with SoftBank is by using the SoftBank mail app.
Go here and click on the SoftBank MMS section for info.
This thread is back in February.
When you change rom you need to make sure that you are using the correct APN (Access Point Name) which came with your phone (in the original rom).
The APN is basically the address and password which is used to access your carrier's data/internet access.
You can use a program like APN Backup & Restore which saves your APN info in an .xml file which you can easily restore when you flash a new rom.
Some roms have many APN's listed for you to choose but your's might not be listed or included, plus if you choose the wrong one it can cost you a LOT of money in wrong data fees. (I made this mistake a few years ago with a SoftBank Windows Mobile phone which cost me $1000 equivalent in Japan.)
So get the program above and save your original APN which you are using. (whichever is checked if you have a few listed.)
Then when you flash a new rom - immediately disable Mobile Network (in settings) and install APN Backup & Restore and then delete the new rom's APNs and restore your APN. Then make sure it's checked, switch on Mobile Network and you should be OK. (I reboot and then check it's still checked afterwards). Like I said, if you use the wrong APN, you can get crazy billing fees - regardless of whether your original contract is unlimited packets or not.
I hope this helps.

LTE/4g gone on all custom ROMS

I have the blue/gray'ish i747 from AT&T. My issue is pretty much what the title states.
I used the guide off galaxys3root.com to root and install CWM, I have attempted using the CWM that you wind up with by following those instructions, flashed an updated CWM, flashed CWM touch, and today installed TWRP.
I've tried CM9 and 10 dailies, kyanROM 1.1 and up, kangs (couple different releases), and pretty much every other ROM I've found on these forums that had a decent thread and regular updates. For all of them I've tried full-wipe, restored the system to stock (as in used Odin to flash the original firmware and kernel and started over), simple flash over my current working (stock but heavily stripped via root uninstaller) ROM, read every post in the forum thread and double/triple-checked the instructions before I even downloaded the files...
I can flash kernels all day long without isses, my personal favorite is kt747, every release has worked on this phone and they keep getting better.
Each time the result is the same: Everything fires right up. CM10 exhibited none of the issues reported in the development thread and is gorgeous... But my phone will not leave HSPA mode for 4g/LTE. Coming from stock, my phone shows 4g, and 4-5 bars; after flashing ANY custom ROM, all I get is an H with a "eh.." signal.
My wife, who will let me change nothing on her phone, so its bone stock, has the same model (in white) on the same account. After flashing any ROM I've found that I wanted to try; I can have mine sitting right next to hers and see that hers is on 4g with a huge signal while mine is on HSPA with half the signal. I've also verified that it isn't just an issue with the indicators by running speedtest.net on both phones. Hers consistently clocks in at significantly higher download rates (2x or better) and slightly higher upload rates.
I'm pretty much at a loss here, I've flashed a few different ROMs to my old HTC Merge and a Motorola Electrify and while there was some variance in average signal strength I never had a problem like this (of course they're both 3g phones, so its not really comparable). So I'm not even really certain what information I could provide that might assist in troubleshooting.
Anyone have any ideas on where I can start looking or what I can do about this? Pleasse save me from the touchwiz! Barring the 4g issue, I loved cm10 so much I used it for two days and just tried to get over the loss of 4g. Its so much faster and cleaner and more feature-laden, that it was hard to go back.

I get "connection problem or invalid mmi code" on the stock Rom gimme a few to backup and flash something else and I'll report back.
Edit:
Same error message in current cm10 daily
So what do I do about that? I'm assuming that's not a desired result?
You obviously did not read about the imei problem. next time you should read. You you need to receive your imei number back you can find how to in the development thread

Scratch that, did some googling for that error code. apparently it works if I put in *#06# instead of *06#
So, since I hadn't t restored my backup yet, I ran it on the CM10 daily and it came back with a code. do you need the code (not sure if IMEI is one of those "don't post it in public places" things or not.
*Just restored the backup-the code is different on stock. It is the same 15-digit numerical sequence but also has " / 02" (minus the quotes) appended to it.
So, clearly there's a difference, is there a way to edit/change/fix it in the custom roms?
is your imei missing, or saying unavailable.... just post the first 5 digits if its there...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997
this is how to fix the issue
I'll make it easy. If it DOESN'T start with 35, yourIMEI is borked

Shows up identical on both stock and custom ROMs, but on stock there is the / 02 at the end.
So I'm assuming, if its IMEI, its a syntax issue.
Gonne go check out Andrew's link and see if that fixes it too.
Thanks for the resource.

You seem to have no IMEI issues... are you seleting the LTE apn? That 02 or 05 is not part of your IMEI...

Been reading up on it and it looks like it may be the version number, in the CM10 menus I found IMEI and directly underneath it was V 02, so I'm thinking its just the way the ROM handles the version or something. just weird to me that it comes back with that syntax on one Rom but not the other.
I actually went through galaxys3root.com, verified my apn settings there, made sure they were set up appropriately and that it was selected. In both stock and custom configurations it shows up as AT&T PTA, and was selected in both.
Just to be absolutely sure, yesterday I deleted all of the APNs and (using my wife's gs3) recreated an exact copy of the apn on her phone. So it had no choice but to be on the right one.

Wow dude, you really aren't listening... your IMEI is fine... the 02 is specific to LEM modem, the 05 for LG1 modem, and I believe 07 for LH1 modem (someone correct me on that one).... you've just narrowed it down to an issue with APN... CM10 has the ability to select the ATT LTE apn... have you tried that?

That's all correct... I was hoping you wouldn't have to mess with your NV items, that's why I beating down the APN so hard.... Trying to keep it simple... Your IMEI is intact by looking at the 5 digits you posted, and the 02 really does have no effect....
Even though you already done so for all the people who have asked, go ahead and write down your IMEI reported by the phone and make sure it matches the sticker or the box.... Your modem seems to be UCLEM... You could try flashing UCLG1 which will put you on IMEI service 05, heres the modem thread...
but you may need to end up following this post...
also, a flash back to stock is always a troubleshooting option, just to see...

kk, thanks for the help. For clarification, is the modem the "Baseband Version" in the menus? That shows I747UCLEM. I'll go through and the read the threads you referenced and report back on the results.
Thanks again man!
Sorry, forgot to mention-yes, the IMEI does match the sticker.
Flashing back the stock ROM has worked every time. I've done that one a few time just to try to eliminate variables.

Help: Data package not turning on

Hello all, I am new here to the Galaxy S3 and I am having an issue with the data package not turning on. I bought this phone used and I have come to the realization that 4g is not turning on at all even after restarting it. The Baseband is I747UCLG1 and I am not sure if this phone was rooted or unlocked (not even sure if that would cause this problem). When I checked under status (settings - about - Status) under mobile network state it says disconnected. After doing some searching on here I was thinking of putting the stock rom through ODIN on the phone to see if that would help, but I wanted to check if there might be something I should do or check before doing that.
Thanks in advance

Are you getting any data signal at all? What is your carrier? What is indicated under Service state under status? In service is what you are looking for... If it`s anything else, then i would suggest calling your service provider to inquire. If In Service is what you do have, then hit Settings-More-Mobile networks and check data enabled. Still under mobile networks settings, hit Network Mode and select LTE/WCDMA or LTE/GSM/WCDMA. Regardless of which one you choose, if you are located in an LTE enabled area, you should be able to get the signal.
Also, if you have access to WIFI, one easy way to check if you are rooted is downloading root checker through the app store.
Before doing anything with ODIN, my advice would be to read extensively... you wouldnt want a recently purchased paper weight on your hands.

It will not as it will not touch anything to do with root, super user, or busybox.
If it doesn't do anything I woudl suggest getting the pre-rooted ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
and flash it according to the step in the OP. If you bought it second-hand it hard to know what the person before you did or left on the phone. It will create a clean base. If you don't get a signal then...it could be the sim.
Have you tried adding the correct APN for your carrier ?

Depends on the rom and if it is integrated into it.
Weird that AT&T would cut the chip instead of giving a new one.

[GUIDE] How to enable LTE on the Mobilicity / Wind / Vidéotron T889V

Hello everyone,
If you're using an SGH-T889V (originally from Vidéotron, Wind or Mobilicity) on a carrier that runs LTE on the AWS band, e.g.: Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Virgin Mobile Canada, Koodo, AT&T or T-Mobile; this will allow you to enable LTE.
Note: Vidéotron has launched their LTE network in September 2014. As of writing this, it is unclear whether there will be a new T889V modem released with LTE enabled in the coming weeks, much like there was with T-Mobile USA when they launched their LTE network.
If you're using a T-Mobile USA SGH-T889, this guide isn't for you.
The usual disclaimers apply.
Actually, let me rephrase that: This mod permanently damages your phone, and irrevocably voids your warranty.
No one has been able to flash back to a T889V modem (be it ALJ4, BMA3, CMK4 or DNE7) without encountering bootloops afterwards.
Interestingly, T889VVLUDNH2 did not bootloop, it simply showed an "unknown" IMEI and baseband with no network connection.
Some background:
A rather lengthy post explaining what I did and what happened
TL;DR version of same
Additional relevant threads:
Getting LTE to work on fido
Need Help Please WIND 889V Borked
You'll need:
LTE - Coverage, known working microSIM, proper plan and system provisioning, etc...
Proper APN settings for your carriers on hand. (Better yet if you're running TouchWiz ROMs: proper CSC files and knowledge on how to modify and apply those.)
ADB
Clockworkmod/TWRP recovery
CWM/TWRP flashable I317M modem image. (I originally used the BMA3 modem, although the mod should work with any of them.)
Bell/Rogers/Telus I317M modem files
I317MVLALJ2 4.1.1 initial release (This one could be of interest for unlock purposes...)
I317MVLBMA3 4.1.2
I317MVLUCMK5 4.3
I317MVLUDNF1 4.4.2
I317MVLUDNF3 4.4.2 (I haven't downloaded the full Odin image and prepared a zip for this one.)
I317MVLUDNH2 4.4.2
Mobilicity/Vidéotron/Wind T889V modem files.
T889VVLALJ4 4.1.1 initial release - CAUTION: flashing this on top of a working ALJ4 modem installation has been known to cause bootloops and NV item corruption.
T889VVLBMA3 4.1.2
T889VVLUCMK4 4.3
T889VVLUDNE7 4.4.2
T889VVLUDNH2 4.4.2
Once you've downloaded the above files:
Backup your NV settings (in CDMA Workshop text format) as per this thread. You can also use the EFS Professional Tool (currently at version 2.1.61) almost identically to the older NV_reader_writer tool. (It also contains the IMEI NV item generator functions that Peoplearmy's tool had, apparently gone missing too.)
The only things I'll add are that:
RMNET + DM + MODEM is not available, you'll have to use RNDIS + DM + MODEM instead.
Finding the COM port can be done in device manager, you may need to refresh devices or disconnect and reconnect the USB port. If it's been properly detected, you can also click the Port text to the left of the droplist, there's an autodetect function there.
Also use this guide to backup (in QPST/QXDM .qcn format): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
Optional: Backup the raw mk9efs partitions too, as per @connexion2005's suggestion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079705 (they're not necessary for the mod itself, and are only made as an additional precaution)
Optional: Backup the raw mk9efs and efs partitions with this CWM or TWRP "flashable" zip based on the Synergyrom team's work. It outputs the dumps in a ready-to-flash restore zip.
Consider backing up other files and data from your phone with the usual complement of Titanium Backup, nandroid and so on. Copy those off the phone.
If you're running an AT&T or T-Mobile ROM: you may have to flash another ROM as well. The stock T889V ROM has a "Network Mode" setting that lets you toggle between LTE/WCDMA/GSM, WCDMA only and GSM only. The I317M and N7105 ROMs also have this, while the I317 and T889 probably don't.
On the T889V ROMs: to see LTE become an option, you'll need to edit your CSC files and remove the <CscFeature_Setting_DisableNetworkMode>lte</CscFeature_Setting_DisableNetworkMode> line in /system/csc/others.xml. This setting is only cosmetic: the notification bar icon will show "4G" and you won't see LTE in the network mode settings. However, the phone will still use LTE, which can be confirmed by looking in Settings / About Phone / Status. (I've come across this while flashing ROMs with unaltered CSC files.)
Let's proceed with the actual modification:
Reboot to recovery, flash the 317M BMA3 modem. Wipe /cache and Dalvik cache for good measure.
Reboot phone. No bootloops? Good.
Check in Settings / About Phone that you still have a valid IMEI. (It's possible you still do at this point.)
Reboot the phone. This time the IMEI and service should be lost.
Using the same procedure you did to back them up, restore your NV items.
Reboot the phone.
Confirm your IMEI is correct and that you have service.
Check in Settings: Wireless and networks -> More settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode that LTE/WCDMA/GSM is selected. Another menu worth mentioning here is the "Band Selection" menu accessed through the *#2263# dialer code. Note that if you force the phone onto the LTE bands, you will only have data service, and no voice calls or SMS.
I'd like to thank the following users for their help and feedback in writing this guide: @Byangmang, @deeznutz1977, @dspkeff, @hkfan, @rail205, @TEKHD
Good luck,

Works. Thanks allot. Only thing I didn't do is restore the 3 files backed up via adb.

Those are very much a belt and suspenders bit. They're not to be restored in the instructions, and my inclusion here is mostly because connexion2005 had requested a set for a JTAG repair. I'm taking a guess here, but if there's any calibration data or other phone specific parameters in there, having those from your device on hand can't be bad.
What if I suffer boot loops, didn't do any backups, and my IMEI is already Zeroed out on my T889V? How can I fix this?
I have my IMEI still since it's written on the purchase box of the phone.
I used to be wind, now virgin mobile with LTE sim. I flashed tmobile modem. No love. Flashed T889V modem back, then got boot loops.
Please help!!!
edit:
Hi Darkshado, really hoping you can help.
I've done more reading. I can't seem to make the boot loops stop.
I've done odin to factory rom image. No luck.
I tried i317 custom modem you have here on XDA, no luck. Also Tmobile modem, etc... no luck.
I used CWM and permission fix, etc.. no luck.
My boot loop is a little weird. It will boot and stay live (working - no signal though) for about a min, then it will say some android.media.process is not responding and reboot.
So I can't get NV to inject my IMEI as it will reboot too soon. From what I read, NV needs 5-10 min??
basically, I did JEDIX-15 tmobile rom install with latest tmobile modem. That's how I got into this mess. I have a T889V and virgin LTE sim such as yourself.
I just can't seem to make the boot loops end so I can move forward....
Try writing flashing back the T889 baseband and restoring a T889 or T889V NV items backup.

Will this do?

from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380
I'm going to try and odin the factory image and see if that stops the reboots.
I'm guessing baseband is the same as modem correct?
I'll go give it a try now and use CWM to inject it first before I odin.
I've never done an NV restore let alone backup, so that seems to be my hick up. I'll do some research and get that done then and get back to you.
Thanks for the assistance.
edit:
I'll try to write NV, but that might be an issue since I need the phone not to reboot, and it does in under a minute usually.
Any suggestions, or specific rom I can try to write so I can eliminate the reboots so I can do the nv?
edit2:
ok, the tmo modem from that link above worked. It's not boot looping after a min now!
There is still zero signal. Does not connect. When I do *#2263# and choose automatic, it says menu does not exist, etc...
going to to try inject my IMEI with NV.
Will report back.
Edit 3
Ok, just used nv read/write to inject your t889v nv file. Then generated my imei and injected that.
reboot, and got signal! yay.
thank you so much!\
When I go to settings. I only see WCDMA/GSM/AUTO. No LTE option. I think I read somewhere that is cosmetic?
If I NV write the T889 NV file from deeznutz1977 will that fix it cosmetically?
Thanks again!

20% More Awsomeness
I switched over to Telus sine Mobilicity is going under . I could only get HSPA+ @ 5Mbps, Now I too have fully working LTE. Albeit with weaker signal strenth due to higher band freqency. But I can just toogle LTE when needed. I must admit that second reboot with IMIE 0 and no service was a bit nerve racking, but the backup was flawless. Thanks a million OP. ^_^
i edited the csc called other....
and the LTE line was already not present.
The LTE option is still not in the mobile settings however.
When I do the *#2263# menu and set it to LTE the data does keep working. And I do see it in the system info. Also using a tmobile radio with the JEDI-X15 rom. yay.
But I'd like to solve the cosmetics side of it.
I did inject the t889V nv setting.... could that affect it? Would the t889 NV settings fix it?
edit:
still no luck getting LTE option to appear, although it works, I'd like to solve the cosmetic side of it.
Any help?
You can also get confirmation that LTE is active by checking in About phone / Status.
I don't feel like going through the 664 pages of the Jedi X ROM thread to see if they've altered the network icons or not. Being based on the N7105 ROMs icons with either "4G" or "LTE" captions should be present. Are you editing the active CSC files? Namely those in /system/csc/ ?
I should mention that some CSC edits only apply upon factory reset, e.g. activating WB-AMR, (a.k.a. HD Voice). One neat trick is to make a backup in recovery (nandroid or TWRP), factory reset, then reboot to recovery and restore the backup. I don't recall if this applies to the network icon related lines or not.
Older Modems
Question?
As I stated before it was a smooth transition. But... Some claim the older modem worked better (I317M-I317MVLALJ2). I tried through TWRP as before but the return status says FAILED. No changers are thus made. Any ideas? Thanks.
I've been able to flash back and forth between ALJ2 and BMA3. You're saying the linked ALJ2 zip refuses to flash? I'll have to check, but this might take a few days as I'm:
-rather busy IRL
-stuck using my old laptop (mushy, thoroughly worn out keyboard with an overzealous enter key that fires the moment you hint at touching it and a dead left shift key) while the other is in warranty repair (failing PSU seems to have damaged the motherboard and/or dGPU)
Goodbye,

yep, I edited those CSC files as per your original write up.
I did not factory reset. And yes, you are right. A good example is the Nexus 4. It needs a factory reset to keep the LTE settings ( unless you go to the "INFO" menu, and then you need to reset again.
Okay, I'll try the reset tonight. See what happens. And yes, I see LTE in system info.
Also, when I use speedtest, it records it as lte.
Honestly, I'm just happy it works again...

Problem Solved. The issue was I am using SDCard encryption. For some reason TWRP can SEE the cards files, but not use them. When I moved the modem to internal it installed fine. Sorry bout that.
If I enable lte using this method then will aws still works for WindMobile?

Probably Not? There are threads of people trying to get there i317 to work with AWS. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041
Then again this is a t989v. Don't risk it unless your prepared to not go back.

It should. My data in this department is very limited, since I don't have an active Videotron account on hand. With that said, I got a working speed test on Videotron's AWS HSPA shortly after sorting my phone out this winter. (I simply dropped by one of their stores while at a shopping mall and nicely asked a sales rep to borrow an active SIM card. Showed her the menu unlock method as a thank you.)
I also got to use the phone with T-Mobile USA earlier this year, getting both HSPA (some of it likely AWS, though I didn't get the time to check) and LTE.
@Darkshado thank you very much for the T889VVLUDNE7 modem. I just flash the zip in cwm and it work perfect for my Videotron T889V.
Thanks for putting this together!!
Quick question - I have a t889v from Wind Mobile. I switched carriers to Rogers, and in the process screwed up my phone and had no IMEI/Baseband. Had to send it in for repair to replace the board. It came back with the baseband T889UVUCMK7.
Do you think I can still use this method? I'm currently running a T-mobile Touchwiz 4.4.2 ROM (Test Rom v1.2).
What does download mode give as product ID? You may well have a U.S. board in there now.
The later T-Mobile T889 basebands support LTE out of the box. Make sure your APN settings, plan and SIM card are correct, and that the modem you have does support LTE; if not, you might just need to update that.
I know some people here followed essentially the steps I did, but with the T889 modem instead, but I don't think it applies here.
Good luck,
Darkshado

16-digit password not working after flashing ROM

Flashed my e4gt from a rooted ics to Jellyverse ROM.
Worked flawlessly, but now i need to reprogram my data settings with DFS CDMA Tool... But the damn 16 digit password doesnt work anymore !
Ive flashed this phone to page plus myself and 2010031619780721 worked as a 16 digit password to unlock the phone last time... now no such luck
any suggestions ?
I'm not certain about pageplus but I don't think you need to reprogram the phone through the utility that requires the password. What are you trying to do? Do you have data and the ability to make and receive phone calls?
Call and text are working, there is zero data.
I know when i got the phone all the data profiles and EVDO settings were set to us cellular settings from the previous owner. I initially had to change all the values to my new number and the verizon towers.
I believe these settings got changed when i installed the new GB27 modem for this ROM ?
I spent alot of time reading/learning about flashing phones and I have repeatedly read that flashing new roms to a phone will require to it to be reflashed to the service provider.

And that last may be correct. I wonder if you need a specific modem for pageplus. For instance, I have to flash GC01 modem for Boost on Jellybean because the regular Sprint modem doesn't work (even though you think it would since Boost is really Sprint's prepaid provider). Maybe try the one for virgin mobile I can't recall what modem corresponds to pageplus and I don't see one specific to that carrier. Flashing the modem alone should not wipe out any of the phones carrier info that is programmed in that I've ever seen but it is important for it to use data.
---------- Post added at 04:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:57 PM ----------
Also, not sure if this applies but it looks like you have to have the correct prl installed for the data to work properly too. I posted in this thread about that and the modem for JB on PagePlus to see if anyone knows for sure:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49177879#post49177879
Ok, I got a reply.
Must have a Verizon PRL flashed to the phone.
This means, do not use the update profile & PRL option in the ROM or it may wipe out the PRL. He didn't specify which JB modem to use however.
Edit: You will need your MSL to update the prl on the phone and unless you already have it, I understand its not easy to retrieve on a non-Sprint phone if that is what you've got.
thank you for the input
I turned for help to the page plus flashing thread I used initially to flash this phone. I need to find out why the 16 digit password to unlock my phone does not work anymore. The 16 digit password is the same thing as the SPC MSL, as in it unlocks the phone so you can edit the CDMA settings.
Im pretty convinced that either the data or evdo settings got changed, or I need to update the PRL again, like you said.
Flashing the ROM changed one of those settings. We will fix this together XDA !

In case anyone else runs into this...
solution: Sprint 16 digit password worked. The ROM must have been written for a sprint device? either way it works
