[Q] Bluetooth 4.0 Update/Fix/Patch? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hey all,
I tried to do a decent search before asking, so I apologize if this has been asked and my search skills aren't all that I though they were...
I have the T-Mobile Galaxy S III and I am loving it (came from a Verizon Galaxy Nexus). One of the reasons for my upgrade is the Bluetooth 4.0 support. To go with this, I recently purchased a Polar H7 Bluetooth heart rate monitor (Bluetooth 4.0 LE).
After failing an attempt to pair (phone will see the hardware address, but trying to pair returns an 'invalid pin or code'. A similar attempt on my Nexus 7 met with the same results.
A search of the internet (and the Amazon forums) returned information that there is not a Bluetooth 4.0 API for Android 4.0 (or 4.1);
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10041378/bluetooth-smart-4-0-gatt-support-in-android-4-0
Apparently the Galaxy S III (and the Nexus 7) has a Bluetooth 4.0 capable radio, but Google has not provided access to this as of yet. It also appear that Motorola had written custom drivers for the RAZR and the Droid 4 to enable their devices Bluetooth 4.0 support.
It was my misunderstanding that the Galaxy S III has Bluetooth support; I read the Engadget review and assumed that it was already there with ICS. (I tried the latest JB leak and still no luck on 4.0)
Does anyone have any insight as to when Google may release Bluetooth 4.0 drivers? Or is it possible for someone to extract the Motorola drivers and re-work them for other devices?

I understand your frustration and it sucks, try to contact Samsung I guess, and btw engadget says that's just because of specifications not bacuse they actually tested, if you read the review it didn't say it was tested at all so yeah, some reason why I never believe reviews lol

rSAP Support In WP7?

Now that the European market has the WP7, has anyone here tried rSAP in their car? Please report back, thank you.
I was trying with a HTC Mozart to connect to my Volkswagen Tiguan's rSAP. No success (it says "Phone is not compatible" when trying to peer)
WP7 officially does not include the BT rSAP profile.. Current solution: Use WM6.5 device with 2nd SIM card... well...
Oh frack, that is why i was avoiding the Android as 1.6 and 2.1 supported rSAP yet 2.2 did not. Do American software developers realize there are people outside the States who use cars that need rSAP? Generally, these are very expensive cars too. Yes, i know there is the ability to insert a SIM card in my vehicle, yet that would have a different tele number and defeats the purpose of being available at a single # easily as with the Win 6.x phone currently here.
There are many thousands of complaints against the Android due to 2.2 not supporting rSAP, and here i was hoping MS would be a bit brighter than Google.
Will be trying the Samsung Focus and hopefully Samsung realizes rSAP is a necessity.
Android never supported rSAP in any build, only the Samsung Galaxy does, and it was Samsung not Google who did that, and rSAP is supported in Android 2.2 on Galaxy S.
I emailed HTC about WP7 rSAP support, and they were very clear that it does not! it is weird 'cause WM6.5 supports it.
Well... maybe (crossing fingers) the Samsung Focus has rSAP (still crossing fingers). And yes, Win 6.x supports rSAP nicely (even my HTC).

Hi ..Have you actually tried the Galaxy S 2.2 with rSAP on a particular car system? I have an Audi and a Porsche and SGS 2.1 rSAP works fine with both of them but I read that the SGS Froyo 'leaked builds' from a couple of weeks ago didn't suport rSAP. Makes me kind of nervous about upgrading the firmware...
Yes, I have galaxy S and tried rSAP on both 2.1 and 2.2 on my VW GTI and it works perfectly. You need to copy your contacts to the sim card for the car to download it, there is an app that does that for you 'copy2sim'
rSAP is a bit of a throwback given modern phones don't store contacts on the SIM anymore.
Modern handsfree kits (e.g. Parrot) use OBEX.
Agree rSAP is a small throwback, yet many current European cars do indeed use it. While my car (from the VW Group) does work with the Samsung Focus, it is just HF and not rSAP so can not access ease of steering wheel choosing of whom to call

Which build of 2.2 did you try? I have heard reports that rsap doesn't work on the Galaxy S after the official upgrade.
Just installed the VW 3C8035730A module to replace the rSap only 5N0035730C.
I have a HTC Touch HD that works as a rSap and a Iphone 4 that works as HF now. WP7 should should work i guess too. Full download of adressbook, media player and all that.
At least a solution for phones that do not support RSAP.
You can read my post here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/182537-installed-rns510-module-3c8035730a-rsap-bluetooth/
If only Mercedez-Benz offered a similar upgrade to the BT SAP module. The new Mercedez-Benz do have the same HFP/SAP functionality but I can't afford the £90k to upgrade my CL500 right now.
rSap and address book on Galaxy S
I purchased a Galaxy S to use with my Audio because my HD 2 kept dropping the connection.
Upgraded to the released build 2.2 and it works fine with rSap. And it downloads the address book from the phone (as well as the SIM).
Problem is the 2.2 build I have with an Exchange Active Sync connection runs the battery down in hours and the phone often locks up completely.
So the Rsap is great, OS features are great. But the implementation is useless.
Interesting to hear that there is an Active Sync connection, enabling the download of the phone's address book. Sadly I use the Google address book so IR probably won't work for me. Where is this found on the phone?
I always have the phone on a Brodit mount with charger for long journeys as Bluetooth is a battery killer.
Address Book
I don't think the Car Kit cares where the contacts came from.
It just asks the phone for an address book. So Any contacts on the phone should come down not matter how they got there.
I can't check if my Gmail contacts arrived as I had to change back to the HD2.
What's the Car Kit?
Car Kt
It's the factory Audi Full Phone Kit.
I think it is called Audi MMI 1638 but I don't know the part number.
It was an option at build on my RS5 which arrived last week.

Bluetooth version & BMW music streaming

I wondered if anyone can help with my query regarding getting music streaming to a BMW 320ED via Bluetooth?
The good news is that I can get my Galaxy Nexus (GSM 4.1.1 stock software) to pair with the car and I can get music playing via Bluetooth, but I can't see the artist information. The car screen informs me that the device doesn't supporting sending track information, or something along those lines.
What frustrates me about this is that my friends iPhone 4S does stream the track information as well as the actual audio. I Googled to see what Bluetooth version both phones use, apparently the iPhone 4S is Bluetooth 4.0 and the Galaxy Nexus has 4.0 capable hardware but only 3.0 features are available due to software limitations.
Is this true? Is once of the differences between Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 the ability for track information to also be shared? I was using Google Play Music if that makes any difference.
I've done some more research about this and thought I would update my post, just in case it's of help to anyone facing a similar issue. Turns out the Bluetooth protocol/profile AVRCP is responsible for streaming music tags to the car stereo, but only AVRCP 1.3 and above. Unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus only supports 1.0 by default but CyanogenMod 10 has built in support for 1.3 since roughly the 14th September nightly.
Should be able to test it out next week at some point. Why are Google so bad at supporting the latest Bluetooth features? I've always found this with Google experience devices to lack in this area where other manufacturers support the latest Bluetooth features.

Bluetooth 4.0 ??

I am looking to purchase one of those new Fitbit Flex bands and i saw that it only does android devices that support bluetooth 4.0. On there website it seems like the only phones they have is galaxy 3 and note 2. Is there anyway for us galaxy nexus owners to get bluetooth 4.0??
Adding Bluetooth 4.0 support into the Galaxy Nexus would require an hardware change. There's no way to add support as a software/firmware update.
It would be like asking to transform a USB mouse into a wireless mouse. The required hardware just isn't present in the wired mouse to easily do it.
Bluetooth 4.0 can be made backward-compatible, as it can contain classic bluetooth connectivity and offers two additional operation modes: Bluetooth High Speed and Bluetooth Low Energy.
If your host device isn't Bluetooth 4.0 compliant and the device that is connecting is compliant with dual mode implementation, it will attempt to make a classic Bluetooth connection (obviously without the new features like either High Speed or Low Energy modes).
I would suggest finding out which Bluetooth 4.0 implementation mode the Fitbit Flex was used (single mode or dual-mode). If it is made with Bluetooth 4.0 dual-mode, you'll be able to use it with your Galaxy Nexus. If not, you'll have to wait until you upgrade your device to a Bluetooth 4.0-compliant model.

After doing some searching it seems to be because google is too lazy to help us out at the moment. IT IS POSSIBLE and doesnt require hardware change, just drivers. Which then makes me think..Im surprised all these guys on XDA cant make a driver, but im not exactly sure what that entails so im sure its harder than it sounds.

I just bought the same RZ100 from woot I think and it won't function on my Nexus 4. The phone only sees the HID part but not the headset portion but even then the HID part doesn't work. I'm guessing it's some kind of driver issue. I happen to have a Motorola android phone at work and it connects to that phone perfectly. Is there any way of getting the drivers for it from an Motorola phones ROM? I
RZ100 works straight away on samsung s5 but doesnt work at all on Asus zenpad 7... bad luck I bought it for the zenpad bad luck

[Q] Fitbit Sync?

Has anyone been able to get Fitbit Flex wrist band to sync with the LGOG? it says on their website that only the S4 and S3 are supported as of now, but just curious if anyone has had luck getting the sync to work..
Thanks

While our phone should work if you're using a stock-based ROM (as the LG Bluetooth stack supports Bluetooth 4.0, and thus Bluetooth low energy), you'll want to avoid Android 4.2.2 ROMs on this phone unless they specifically added Bluetooth 4.0 support.
Android 4.3 fixes this hole by explicitly adding Bluetooth 4.0.
I have no personal experience with the Fitbit device, but I would guess Fitbit, Inc. is limiting official support to just the most popular smartphones as well as those they have on-hand to test and troubleshoot. Lack of official support doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, it just means they haven't tested and verified it themselves.
I have tried it with a couple of ROMs and they do not work. When you open the settings menu in the Fitbit app, and select devices, you would be able to see a sync/force sync option if the phone recognized it. I think it would require a build.prop change to one of the S3/4 devices just to recognize it, then actually syncing would be another issue of it's own.
I am interested in if anyone knows how to get this working, so I'll keep checking back.
