Night Mode (red hue) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been looking for a night mode app ever since I got the SG3.
Used to use the Chainfire3D app from the market that had this mode integrated but that function is broken with ICS, at least it's not working for me
Just in case, I'm not looking for a screen dimmer...This is a function that add a very light red hue to the screen and overlays the display. This is very helpful for dar adaptation when observing stars and celestial bodies through a telescope.
For like something like CF.lumen, but this is also broken on ICS and greater FML

Yup! It saves your eyes from the glare, hope come more customizable in the future it's also good for driving at night and using gps apps.

Night mode is a standard feature.. At least in every rom I have used. It doesn't work if you are set to automatic brightness. No need for additional apps.

If by night you mean dimming of the screen, that is something this app doesn't do. It removes all colors except for the one you tapped on, example red, make the screen that color. This feature is found only, that I know of, in CM and AOKP builds.
As you can see from the screen shot, I'm using this for astronomy Google dark adaptation and red hue...
Edit - Since this affects the lcd screen outpuy it cannot be screen captured *facepalm*
But you get my drift.

do you know of any app that will work with a nexus 4? Galactic Night only seems to be for Samsung devices.

unfortunately this app also does not adjust the on-screen soft keys at the bottom They stay white.

No it does not. But it's still an excellent app.

Sure, if it does what you need. Unfortunately it is useless for my particular use case if it doesn't affect the on-screen buttons

[Q] LED Notifications

Since there isn't an LED light specifically for notifications, is there a way to make the LEDs for menu, home, back, and search light up for said notifications? It would be even better if each one lit up for specific apps so I could know why it's lighting up before I even turn on the screen.
Thanks for any help!
My suggestion would be NoLED.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, but was hoping one could take advantage of the buttons' LEDs.

The closest we can get to LED notifications is BLN. You need to use a BLN compatible kernel and use the app BLN Control.

I'm trying to tweak some things on system tuner and my phone rebooted (but took a bit to turn on) my blood pressure dropped, I thought I killed my phone!
But after some reading.. it pretty much means the phone does not like those settings, change them.. right? Phone works fine now though, but I was wondering for future reference

Yeah, basically. If you are undervolting, you need to take tiny increments to make sure the phone is stable before going any further.

Dim the capacitive buttons??

Its probably been asked but a quick search turned up nothing.
I use screen filter at night to further reduce screen brightness but the capacitive buttons stay bright as hell. Is there any way to dim them as well???
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
If you are using Samsung dock and Desk Home app, that dims the buttons after a short while. I run cm7. But that's if you are not using the phone... there is no known way to dim them if it is in use

Hmm..are these not controlled through the kernel? If they blink when activated maybe there is a way to get them to behave in inverse, like off by default and blink only when touched? I would like to see them completely disabled..wondering why this can't be accomplished..

That would be pretty awesome. I'd like to see that as a feature. I'm sure it would help save some battery, and you can *never* have too much battery
Have you suggested that to any of the kernel devs?

Nexus 4 Display control

Has any of you tried this app yet? maybe its useful to get rid of the yellow tint of the nexus 4? It was made by Francisco Franco
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nexus4displaycontrol
Judging by the reviews it should work. I know im getting it once i receive my N4.
It does work. I just don't know what each setting combinations look the best.

I don't notice yellowing yet. Guess if it appears, I know how to fix it now. Since it looks like software, why isn't this fixed?
Can someone post their settings for this app. Black's are too light and colors not as vibrant as when using cm calibration settings on the previous nexus'

This is a different type of screen. Blacks will not be as deep nor colors will it be as saturated as super amoled. As far as settings I use 255 190 255.

I use Fauxclock. It's got CPU/GPU clock and voltage control, in addition to color (and gamma, when ROMs/kernels begin to support it). You can also select an IO scheduler.
Basically it does all the same stuff as Voltage Control, SetCPU, Incredicontrol, and N4 Display Control, but it's in one app so it's overall cheaper.
I went to a Best Buy today and compared my N4's screen directly to a Optimus G. I didn't actually think my screen looked yellow at all until I compared it to the Optimus G. My N4's screen looked terribly yellow, was less bright, and had worse viewing angles than both of the Optimus G's my local Best Buy had on display.
Based off the first post in this thread for the GNex, I set my Nexus 4 to settings of:
182
190
200
I haven't tinkered too much but this seems to make things a bit better.
Has anyone else experienced the screen turning very yellow, almost brown, when viewing from the corners of the device? I am pretty unhappy with the viewing angles on the phone, especially after comparing it to the Optimus G, which is supposed to have the same display.

Do you think there is a limit set on the brightness maybe a dev could unlock that limit to make the phone more brighter

This app puts an overlay on top of your screen, so it doesn't really "change" your display colors. Also: the overlay should disappear when you try to install an app because of the security issues with having one in place when trying to install an app. I believe Lux and other similar apps do this too.

But why you can't see it on a screenshot then?

The screen settings definitely do not change when you attempt to install a different app.
Why do you say this is just an overlay? It is baked into the kernel.

SCREEN FILTER: Dim/Darken Screen app

I read this up yesterday and wanted to post it here too for those who don't know about the app yet. "Smart Filter".
This app is magnificient in that it doesn't tweak hardware functions, but it applies a dark layer. Thus making it work wonderfully with the OLED screens (Apparantly OLED can only be dimmed to a certain extent).
This app is fantastic for reading, viewing videos or taking notes at night. Also awesome for using your phone in the theatres (I guess?).
Once again, app is called: Screen Filter

a filter as well? The only down side I can think of with the filter method is that it doesn't really save battery (in comparison to actually emitting less light).

Screen flicker in sun with keyboard popped up?

I have tested this with two of these phones and it is confirmed there for sure. I live in Miami Florida there is a lot of Sun here so I have no problem testing this. Within any app if I am in the Sun and it is directly hitting my screen and my keyboard is popped up my screen flickers it's not a super bad Flicker it's light but it's definitely there looks like your screen is blinking really fast. I'm going to try on as many of these devices as I can but can anyone tell me if they are experiencing the same?

I definately recall seeing it. I know exactly what you are talking about. I don't see it anymore so either my kernel (ktoonsez) fixed it or it was a bloat app.
I can confirm the issue on my I9500. Its not only limited when under the sun, also happens when you turn the brightness level all the way down. I'm still on stock kernel, maybe custom kernel may solve the issue. No settings in stock has mitigated or fixed this issue for me.
The people who are seeing this, have you turned off "Adapt Display" ?
