Google Now images - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do you download or find the information on Google now search? I think your supposed to slide up, but that never works. I'm running twa_priv's 20120917 cm10 Rom if that helps, but I had the same problem on hashcode's Roms and jandycane, so it's probably not the Rom I have. . Is there a solution, or is it just a flaw in the app?

no flaws just simply slide finger upward from the home key on the status bar... also did you flash gapps after your rom?

Hold the home button

To make sure you have it you can also go into your App drawer and launch "Voice Search". Maybe it does not work for all roms but I know for mine this attempts to pull up Google now

Google now works perfectly. I just am not able to see any information on images through the app. Sliding up doesn't do anything most of the time. Doing that has only brought up the information (ie similar images, more sizes, website source, full size image) once. Shouldn't it just be as simple as sliding my finger up on the screen? Usually when I do that, no matter how straight I do it, it just tries to slide sideways to the next picture. Yes I flashed g-apps. I don't think you can even get Google now without flashing it.

Sorry I didn't do a very good job telling my problem in the first description. I was talking about the image search part of the app, not the app itself.

[HOW TO] Home Screen in Landscape Orientation

I discovered an app that allows the home screen to work in landscape mode, as well as the dialer and most apps. It does cut off the labels on some of the icons, and make widgets sized a bit odd sometimes, but for the most part it works and is AMAZING if you want to HDMI out through a MHL cable and would like it to stay landscape locked while mirroring.
The app is called "Orientation Lock" by "coin soft" and is available for free download via the android market. It does not require root.
I thought i'd share this because I've seen people ask if there's any way to run home screen in landscape and I always just see people reply with "install a 3rd party launcher" so I thought i'd share the solution for people who'd like to stay on TW. Another note is that this works across most ROMS that are TW based I've tried it on stock, stock telus, dabomb v1.0, and have even since installed a 5 icon dock mod, which does not make this method not function, but does hide the 5th icon while in landscape mode. This method can also be used to view your app drawer in landscape as well. If you have any apps you'd like to mirror via MHL cable in landscape but only view in portrait by default, wasting a HUGE portion of the screen on your big shiny hdtv, you can force landscape.
Please hit "thanks" if I have helped you!

[Q] Unreachable area - touch screen cut off point?

I use LMT as I hide soft keys I noticed it's very difficult to activate the LMT piecontrol when in landscape mode.
This is the lowest I can go on my screen before the screen no longer registers any touch (and is most likely the reason why LMT piecontrol does not pop up when I keep trying).

Clearly shows there is a unreachable band which the phone does not register me touching.
Anyone else have this issue or have I got a defected device?
Anyone?

There is a well documented with multi-touch on original factory roms where parts of the screen would fail to detect when doing multi-touch. I believe this is fixed in 4.0.4. If you're willing, try flashing to 4.0.4 to see if the problem is fixed for you. Otherwise, I'd suggest exchanging.

This is not a multi touch issue. This is a simple single touch issue where the screen seems to 'end short'
Could some others test if they can reach the very bottom of the screen when the softkeys are hidden?

Seems to be working better now with AOKP B27. Still a bit of a hit and miss though, I think it may have something to do with the curvature of the screen or maybe my finger is deformed.

How to use selection arrows at the edges of the screen

Also, how do you stop Android from ending the selection for you when you haven't finishes making toilet selection? Is there a trick like wiggling your finger twice to the left there times to the right to get the arrow to make it to the edge of the line at the end of the screen? Is there a 3rd party app to substitute this crap built into Android? It's not very finger friendly. What do you guys do? Thanks

Anyone sled use the Android tapatalk app for this forum? If so, have you found you cannot click on and edit/modify your post anymore? Or is it just my phone? Like my last post is empty. I wanted to either add something to it or delete it. Is there anything that works or are we just a bunch of impatient satisfaction hungry slurs that demand solutions to desired right now before you have time to make something properly functional? Excuse me. I don't know how many times I day working on my computer/phone I run into some design flaw in some program that slows me down. I would ha e just stick working with the mobile browsers had I known how crappy these forum apps would be. Hey look all cute and thumb ready with their widgets on your screen but really suck.

You try typing that and then selecting the first letter, but no cheating, select "select word" not "select all"

[Q] Is this spam or a virus?

or something else?
I regularly (say weekly) get what appears to be a message on my phone which looks like this:-
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
If I open it, nothing happens for a while then it tries to install some software. I always hit cancel at this point but have noticed that the logo in the top left varies.
Can anyone tell me what this is?
Thanks
Nick

Actually in Q&A.
Did you recently install any app, it is being caused by an alp that has push ad capability. Try remembering which app you installed and got these right after. You could also screenshot your apps list so we can help search that app for you.

Thanks everybody. Now I know what it is, I can deal with it. Normal push-ad detection apps don't recognise it so I've installed aLogcat so I can see what's going on. Will post back if successful. Or not!

OTA 4.3 Questions

Basic root knowledge here. Basically know enough to follow guides and not much more.
I updated to 4.3 through the OTA a few days ago when I got my cell phone turned on (slits wrists).
Was able to remove knox, root and super user it up thereafter using a guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538991
Following this success, I'd like to flash a custom rom. I'd prefer CyanogenMod because it's what I love, but if that's not compatible anymore, is there a custom rom I can use that anyone knows of since I actually updated legitly via OTA?
If not, worst case scenario, I'll stick with the rooted stock, but I must know how to remove this darn thing highlighted in red in the image below.

Thanks XDA community. I have been out of the loop while my phone has been shut off due to unemployment and it seems like there's too much that's happened since I was paying attention to make sense of anything now.
From that homescreen hit the options softkey to the left of the home key and hit edit. Then you can delete the unused homescreens hence making the dots go away

Unfortunately, even when all homescreens are removed but the first, there is still a lonely dot taking up that row of screen. I want it gone!
