Search the rom's thread. There is plenty of discussion there about battery drain.
Rogue apps? Calibrated your battery after flash? Facebook and other sync heavy apps love the battery. Live wall paper? I am assuming you are familiar with these questions so I won't go on.
Your phone keeps a log of battery stats. After you flash, calibrate. There are free apps in the play store. I use battery calibration by nema. Found this tip just yesterday after I was going through the rom's forum when I saw people talking about battery drain. I calibrated last night. So far after 13hours, I am down 17%. A definate improvement.
I also use juice defender.
Good luck! And remember, search, search, and search. You have a familiar question.

calibrate battery thread :]
I've never calibrated my battery and I never will. The phone battery life varies. If your phone is getting hot and dying in two hours, you have a rogue process.
Manage the poorly written applications and you won't even think "battery calibrate" because you'll see upwards of 36 hours of use on your phone.
Realistically, I get about 12 hours of heavy to medium use out of my phone. I do not use any other third party apps to manage my phone except for Quick Info Pro and even that is not used for anything more than status review. I handle memory management through the built-in Manage Applications, services, etc. On weekends, when I'm not texting a lot, I have seen 40 hours without charging.
If you only have stock and never install anyone else's applications, you'll see a huge difference in how applications (poorly written ones) can affect your phone's battery life.
See disclaimer.
Good info from othan, exactly what I tell customers who complain about battery life.
I flashed the latest version of Miks Sense rom and im getting god awful battery life. I charged to 100 percent and within 10-15 minutes I dropped to 90 percent. All i did was scroll around a little and snap 2 photos. My coworker flashed the same rom and he is getting the same thing. Anyone experiencing this or know how to fix it. Right now its dropped 85 percent and ive only taken one call since checking it at 90 percent.
You can't say anything at battery life.until you.have gone through at least 3 charge cycles. Did you wipe battery stats?

First, please excuse my ignorance about this.
You know, normally i wipe battery stats but i dont remember if i did this time. (probably didnt). Should i go ahead and wipe now. Should I let it charge down and wipe. What are the general rules when it comes to wiping battery stats? Also when you say charge cycles, should i let it charge down to a certain point then charge it up to 100?

That was extremely informative. thanks alot.
If you were coming from a SBC kernel, you will always be sorely disappointed by any 2.3.3 sense kernel...
You can just ignore everything above 90% battery unless you do the plug/unplug trick... I miss SBC so much... sniff sniff
i've been running Mikg v3.0 with the stock kernel and v6 supercharger....
loving the battery results... try the battery calibrator included with v6... JMHO
I amon MikG3.0 and battery is great. I was on CM7 previously and battery life was horrible.
Hello all together
I'm browsing xda for a little more than a year now. You guys helped me a lot!
First I want to apology my english, I hope you understand what I want to say
Not a long time ago the battery of my WFS lasted up to 3 days (incredible if I think of it now).
That was with a self rooted stock rom and some changes (bravia, turboboost script, oc-kernel, etc.).
Out of nowhere I had problems with my calendar.sync.provider. Processes htc.bg and htc.bgp used the most of my battery (found out with Battery Mix).
I could watch the percent falling... Battery was getting very hot.
After i killed calendar.provider and calendar itself those bg-processes disappeared and all went back to normal.
Installed m1nd's rom, tried a lot of different settings, used calengoo instead of normal calendar (uninstalled the other)...
But battery life was never the same since then.
We also had a really rough winter and I was outside a lot. my battery began to drain faster. First I began to install apps like "auto wifi toggle" to stop that battery drain, after all I just bought a new battery this spring - 1500mAh.
But other than i expected - battery life did not increase. So I decided to install CM7.2 (wanted to do it anyway - great work btw!).
And guess what, nothing changed...
You will find some screenshots at the end... (did barely use the phone this 4 hours)
So what can I do? I'm desperate. The battery does not hold the whole day...
Please give me some tipps (if you have others than the general battery saving thread) or at least cheer me up
tl;dr: Phone works for 10h (mail, text, no phones, no games) - Changing battery & ROM does not fix battery drain...
Thank you in advance!
it happens to me too unfortunately, i charge it everyday or every 2 days
when i play a small mini game for a few minutes, battery drains like over 10% in a few minutes.

Hey scilax can you please tell me how to. Calibrate the battery.
Me too get a smaller backup when 3g is used for some 3 to 4 hours.
Please tell about that calibrating

Thing is, I charge my phone everyday. And I've been using CM7 or CM9, battery life never lasts more than a day. If it's only lasting 4-10 hours. Check your sync settings. Keep it only on 2G networks if using data. Get a battery saving application, in my opinion, it sounds like your using a lot of mobile data/wifi.
I was thinking why couldn't we sum up all the reasons of battery drain in some thread, so that other's wouldn't have to keep on asking why they were getting one or open a new thread for it.
In almost all cases it's backlight, WiFi, mobile network, bluetooth,GPS, screen time out.
You can also look at battery usage stats in settings to see the responsible app or system setting for battery drain.

How would you go on accomplishing this if everyone has different configurations/settings which affect the drain?

For example, somewhere I read that enabling "flashlight" and "backlight" in quickpanel settings, the battery would drain more.
What I initially thought was that we could post our experiences with bad battery life, the major reasons behind and what we did to solve it. Along with maybe the rom/kernel we would be using.

For over an year, I have flashed my LT15i more than 20 times, trying all the official firmwares meanwhile (all rooted, of course). In my opinion, the daily consumption depends if I used more or less the radios, the players, the screen aso. Because my habits are more or less the same (I listen music and I read/navigate during my half an hour way with the subway, for example) I can affirm that the consumption is constant, around 40% daily. But, I consider that a good estimate could be done following the battery consumption by night. For me, this consumption is around 5%. With one exception: I had installed once an application (from the market!) which downloaded over night almost 10MB of ads, and drained my battery almost 20%! Never ever I have experienced battery drain with official firmwares...
Use BetterBatteryStats and the Android's own included Battery Usage screen and you got all the info you need.
I know there are hundreds of these threads but i was unable to find the information that I'm looking for. But my guess is there is no real answer to my question. But i've been wrong before. Please bear with me
Here goes.
I want to know how to maximize the battery when USING the phone. I dont care about wakelocks or sleep time etc.
I am interested in getting to max out the usage time.
For example when I stream radio and surf the net and text. My phone lasts 2 hours with max birghtness. That seems really short.
- I've done all that I know to minimize power consumption with turning off sync, settings, etc.
- I have tasker starting and stopping data during screen on/off.
- I have the phone UV and under clocked.
- I Limit my phone to 3G only, with no LTE
- Also signal is not a problem since I can stream and surf without an issue. With areas with poor reception. I don’t even use the phone really
-*I also have all the chats turned on include facebook, whats app, etc. Once again, phone is awake. and I'm concerned with its ON screen usage battery time.
- I even have the second CPU setting on conservative. (when set on ondemand it drains even faster)
But during usage, its terribly short! What can I do to prolong the life?
The battery was always like this and I dont believe its defective. With regular use, checking phone (once or twice every hour) can easily last a day. But during multitasking usage I notice the drain to be 49-59% per hour according to battery spy.
I know I can uninstall battery spy/BBS to conserve battery. But I'm looking for what some are reporting (4-5 hours of on screen usage time).
Looking for some guru-like advice Thansk in advanced
Personally, I get the best battery life out of the stock kernel of whatever particular ROM I'm running. I stick with tw based ROMs, and I greenify almost everything! I consistently get between 5 and 6 hours of "screen on" time with the stock battery.
You never said what ROM and kernel combo you're using. I know that I get 3 to 4 hours of screen time depending on the apps used and the connections utilized (wifi, signal strength, LTE or H+, etc). 2 hours definitely sounds low though. I'm using stock debloated ROM right now and stock kernel. I have not modified voltage or clocking in any way (yet).

I didnt really notice any improvements on the KT747 vs stock kernel.
I greenify everything except for the messaging apps. But then again, when my screen is on, i want ot be using those apps.

You're doing heavy multitasking!! It's going to eat the battery, sorry, but no one's going to post a magic "cure" to increase battery life! Buy an extended battery... Problem solved.

Websurf and radio or text and radio is just 2 tasks occuring.
Well I can say that running on Wifi, I can get regular battery life about 4-5 hours of use and over 20 hours of idle time.
The radio seems to be the main culprit, so the question is..... what can be done about that?
I'm asking because
- I flashed diff modems and seems to yield same results
- other S3 from my friends seems to last longer with multitasking
- signal....strong or weak seems to produce same drain.
Battery?

I've had the same problem. I couldn't get the same battery life as others I know. I always turn my GPS off if I didn't need to use it. Google now seemed to kill my battery so I stopped using it. But, the one thing I did notice is that the battery stats can be a little deceiving. If I left my phone off the charger and didn't use it for 10 hours and then started to play a game, it would look like I was getting good battery life as I would have about 60% battery left. Now if I played the game right after unplugging my phone, and then after the same 10 hours I'd be around 40%. Hopefully that makes sense.
One thing that I did do to overcome this was get an extended battery. It does add a little bulk, but now I can use my phone like I want and not have to worry about my phone dying on me at night. I can even forget to plug it in and still have battery the next day. For me I got the hyperion 4200 battery. The Zero Lemon seemed just to big for my tastes.
The other thing is also the ROM. At times I have found the same ROM but a different version exhibited different results. All ROM's offer something different so it is a give and take situation.
I hope this helped.

Yea my gps only turns on when my map turns on via tasker. I also dont have google now on.
Ya i understand what you mean on the percentages.
Ive seen people wiht great battery life, i wanted to try to acheive that without an extended bat. I was wondering if there was somehting that was obvious, or some radio battery drain fix. (I even tried only 3G, and still drains)
Thanks

It's a little hard to compare, but right now I'm on a 4.3 ROM and the battery life has been exceptional. Otherwise the next one that has been closest for me in terms of battery life has been Dandroid. Also, it's hard to judge a ROM after a day.
I guess I should have asked if you have tried or have any interest in a custom ROM.

I've had a hard time getting really good battery life from the stock ROM. At best using greenify, I could prolong it a bit. If you are interested in a stock ROM with some tweaks, I always suggest S3Rx, or Dandroid if you want a slimmed down version without the bloat.
You can always try the power save mode as that does seem to help some, but you may experience some lag.

Ive frozen most of the bloat, greenified everything, plus I unclocked and under volted it, so any lag I would feel from power safe wont affect me since i believe power save throttles to 1350 ish .
