Unknown process killing performance via gallery widgets - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok so a few times I've used the picture frame widgets which I think is from gallery, but it drops my fps in half when it's active. Even after removing it from my home screen it's still dragging performance down. I tried to clear gallery data but it didn't work. Restarted my phone, cleared ram, and I'm not sure how this is happening. It only starts and won't go away until factory reset which I don't want.
In application manager the only things I could find possibly related to it is media storage and settings storage

[Q] Sleep of death, app info says computing forever for some apps, etc

I've had my Verizon Galaxy Nexus since launch day with 0 issues until yesterday -- completely stock, not rooted. I woke up, it was charging overnight and the power button wouldn't wake it up. After battery pull it came back, and I confirmed that the battery was full.
This morning I woke up, woke the screen up to check something and it was ok. A few minutes later I unplugged it from the charger, the notification light was blinking so I pressed the power button and nothing. It wouldn't come back until I pulled the battery again.
I found this link and tried to clear data for System UI -- and noticed that most apps including System UI say "Computing..." forever for storage and cache sizes in the App Info page, making it impossible to clear data. Some, not all, have a total size listed in the application list, but when you tap on them for the full info everything says "Computing..." forever.
I also tried to uninstall an app (Dead Pixel Test, it was one of the apps with the missing storage info) and it took 10+ minutes to uninstall.
Don't know what to do besides a factory reset, but I don't want to blindly reset without figuring out what caused it in the first place -- I obviously don't want to lose my app data and settings and have to do it again in a few months.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what I can do short of a factory reset?

Found the culprit!
In case anyone finds this looking for a solution to the same issue, I found the culprit, it was Google Currents. It had left thousands and thousands of cache files on the sdcard, and the GNex was battling through them every time it wanted to do anything with storage. Uninstalling it wasn't enough, I had to delete the tons of files left in /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.currents manually. Now uninstalls and App Info pages work just fine.
I'm trying to get my calendar(s) working and ran, face-first into the "computing..." loop. I do have Currents installed, though I never use it (it is horrible).
the number and density of the files it creates is stunning. I'm deleting these folders a dozen or so at a time and, well, this is gonna take a while, but I do hope it clears up the issues with App Info as you've indicated.
Thanks for the tip.
For the record, using a combination of Astro, ES File Explorer, most of my battery, time, patience, cursing, and venting, I solved the issue.
Completely removing all of the cache from the SD allowed me to remove the Google Currents app.
Removing the Currents app let me clear the data on both the Calendar Storage and Calendar app.
Clearing the data and re-syncing led to my calendar working again with all (8-9) calendars I have.
Thanks to the OP for this excellent suggestion!
Boo to Google Currents for being terrible on Android (and iOS)
Same issue with TripAdvisor
TripAdvisor also generates 100s or 1000s of files and causes the same problem - clearing Cache fixes it

Very laggy Sprint Gnex

I have the Sprint Gnex. It has been laggy with every ROM I have installed. Lag can happen throughout the day to a couple times a week. It is fine for a week or two when new. I went from stock to teambaked black to stock ota 4.2.1(whatever the latest Sprint OTA is) to commotio B57 4.3 then did the update to B59 9-19? Bluetooth using GooManager. Except for the last update I always did a complete erase when loading a new ROM and the only data I carried over was from SMSBackup and Restore App.
Sometimes when loading the camera the camera buttons will be at the top left for several seconds and the screen black when in portrait mode . Restarting multiple times, airplane mode on/off, and overclocking dont change anything. Every button press will take several seconds to load, I never get a low ram warning. Only several apps are used mainly daily.
Am I doing something wrong? How do I stop the lag?
Weird. I have had mine lag from time to time, but a reboot freshens it up and so does Advanced Task Killer. I find things running snappy and quick when I have around 100-200 MB free of RAM. When I get down to ~30 or so MB free, things slow to a crawl like you described. I wonder if you have a bunch of apps running in the background...anything atypical there? (if you go to Settings | Apps | swipe over to Running). How much free RAM do you currently have while having those symptoms?
Also I have found the Facebook app is always running even though I have all abilities for it to sync turned off. I'm so close to uninstalling it and using the browser.
I had lag phone too (Sprint Gnex). I put 10.2CM on it and it runs lag free.

Everytime that I have looked at the Apps folder before there has been 80-100MB free. There are no cached processes but last night I watched it for a couple minutes and it dropped to 30MB. I noticed about 50% of the apps showed restarting all at once. There are 16 Apps running with 8 being system processes. Facebook takes up the most at 40MB. On a fresh restart it dropped as low as 100MB as various apps loaded then exited and it is now hovering at 152MB. 10 mins later with only disabling notifications for RetailMeNot and Google Offers and disabling the Apex Launcher it is down to 77MB with 36MB in cashed processes.
I might try a stable CM like user readable mentioned.

Lag after 5.1.1 update

Hi, i dont remember there being much lag before updating yet now, opening apps or even trying to swipe between the pull down menu pages (battery, cinema mode & settings) for example sometimes takes a couple of seconds.
I've reset the watch to factory settings and uninstalled the app on my phone and reinstalled.
It feels like i need to reduce the animation times like i would in the phones developer settings.
Any suggestions?
I haven't seen anyone else on XDA or reddit with lag issues. If you can sideload a CPU profiler or otherwise monitor processor load, I would recommend making sure an app or system process isn't hogging all the CPU cycles. If there is no issue and the lag is still there, the only option might be to contact Sony support.
I could not use the watch lagged too much, restarted the watch and it seems better.

How to prevent apps from getting killed

Hi all,
I'm running several apps that should run all the time (AdGuard, Network Speed Meter) or for a long time (speed trap warner,...) but OxygenOS kills them after a certain period. Some of them restart automatically, some don't. Of course all of these apps are 'not battery optimized'. Is there any chance to prevent OxygenOS from killing them?
Are there custom ROMs that can overcome this problen?
I'm on the latest OxygenOS Pie Beta, but the behavior was similar on Android O...
Thanks a lot,
W
Did you try locking the app via recents menu?
Thank for the info, didn't know that.
Unfortunately it doesn't help, Adguard and the network monitor don't appear in recents. The speed trap warner automatically starts and stops when I'm in the car, i don't want to open recents manually every time.

This is not changing anything,e ven with disable battery disabled, even with adaptative battery disabled.
I have the same problem. I have not found any solution whatsoever. This is really frustrating. I've made sure apps aren't optimized. Advanced optimization is disabled. Developer options background limit is at standard. I've pinned the apps in recent apps and it still happens. Apps get killed all the time.
For example,
1. I use Google Fit to start tracking a run. Within 10 minutes of tracking, the app is closed and workout not tracked. Its not even like i touched the phone and opened other apps during this.
2. I have VoIP account setup in the default dialer. Calls come through only 50% of the time cause the dialer is closed.
3. YouTube Music, constantly gets closed if i simply pause the music. Within 2 minutes, the app is closed.
4. Trying to transfer 15GB of files through Explorer app from phone to file server, never succeeds if i don't watch the app and keep the screen on.
5. Plex gets closed and therefore my photos don't auto backup with the phone is plugged in.
This is absolutely ridiculous! Why the hell a phone with 8GB of RAM is killing apps is beyond me!
Custom ROM on the same phone, like Lineage OS, no issues. Can have optimization on, battery manager on and all. In fact, battery life is better on custom when its not killing the apps! Seems to be the only solution until OOS can stop killing apps so aggressively.

My app is not killed when i lock it in the switch app menu
There's a whole website regarding that issue on several devices, maybe it helps: dontkillmyapp(dot)com/general#user-solution

Background apps are being killed and I'm receiving no notifications

Hello,
I have an issue with my Note 10+ where apps that are running in the background are being killed and they show no notifications.
For example, if I'm downloading an app from the Play Store and I went to home screen or switched to another window, it just stops installing, until you go back to the Play Store then it resumes installing the app. Also, the auto-update for apps is not working at all. I have to go to the Play Store and install the apps manually.
One more example is the Gmail app. I don't get notifications instantly when I receive an email. I get all email notifications when I unlock the phone.
I have tried everything related to cache erasing/disabling battery optimization for the Play Store (and Play Services/Download Manger) and Gmail, making sure that these apps are not in the sleeping apps list, etc. I even tried wiping the phone's cache and resetting to factory settings. Nothing works and the issue persists. I have adaptive battery enabled, and Power Mode sat to "Optimized" (PS: I tried disabling the adaptive battery and setting the Power Mode to "High Performance" with no luck.
My device is Exynos.
Anybody facing the same issues? This is really annoying and frustrating, and I'm thinking of switching the phone because of this issue.
No such issue. I don't use adaptive battery nor anything under app power management; also no auto optimisations or auto restart. And of course no app, God forbid, that clears or otherwise optimises memory.

I am facing the same issue on my Note10+ and S10+ and even with my Pixel. I think this is an Android problem and not manufacturer specific. I have also disabled any app power saving and app optimizations but whenever I manually check the Play Store there will usually be several apps waiting to be updated.
This happens with my Apple devices too. My iPhone XS Max and 11" iPad Pro never auto updates apps.
