there are only a handful of JB roms.. so most is ICS right now until at least a sprint JB leak comes out..

thanks for the links but this question seriously didn't need responses telling me I haven't looked around for the threads to these questions. A simple answer would have been fine

A custom rom is custom for a reason. Any user can change things about a rom if they know how.
What I have running on my phone may not be your beer of choice. Experiment make nandroid's. If you get one you really like stick with it.
Like one person said this exact thing has been asked and answered multiple times. A simple search and a little reading would have given you the answers your looking for.

I'm a big fan of Team Sonic Free GS3 0.1.1 using JellyBomb Domination Theme V13 and Trinity Kernel. Very smooth ROM and the battery life is KILLER!!!!!!
If you're not a huge fan of the ICS blue then you might not want to flash the JellyBomb Domination theme.

No ****. When I say "custom ROM" I'm talking like generic CM10 or Blazer ROM etc. I'm not asking for a damn explanation of what the word custom meant. If I was, then I would do a quick search and see for myself. If youuuu did some simple reading, you would have read my last comment which was about how dumb ass people gave smart ass responses that simply arent needed. So let me simply this for you...either answer the question at hand or just don't comment at all. That simple. If there's other threads out there I have probably already looked at them and decided to ask the question myself. No big deal. Get over yourself.

Thanks! I heard BlazerROM kicked ass. The only complaint I've read is some people experiencing battery drain and people not liking the battery icon.

Would you test drive billions of cars until you found the one for you? The whole point of the question is to narrow down the search. Or, for your convenience, find the best ROMs to "test drive". I doubt youd test drive a car without matching what you want in a car to what the car offers. If you want a truck, you're not going to text drive a Civic. I've seen my options. I've read the threads. Stop crying about how I made another thread and figure out a way to get this thread deleted of you're so opposed to duplicate questions being asked. I'm sure you've never asked the same question twice ...not once.

Are you looking for a rom thats themed or you just looking for something with the stock look?

I have backups of Blazer, Freegs3, Paranoid Android, Odex Blue, Jelly Bomb, and Wicked Sensations. Honestly, I really like all of them! They all, for me, have had similar battery life, and are all very stable. Paranoid is pretty fun to play with, and has a completely different feel than the others. Right now, I'm really loving team venum's work.
Seems no matter what I flash though, I always end up back on Wicked Sensations. Something about it just keeps calling me back...Lol Good look, feel, battery, stable, nice add ons, and everything just works flawlessly for me. The pull down toggles are nice too. Just put the alpha 7 Trinity kernel on it last night and its running great!
Been thinking of checking out aokp lately, cause I used to use it a lot on my og epic, but, I like a lot of the new touch wiz features.
Like they say, try them ALL for a day or two. You won't be disappointed. Eventually you will probably find yourself going back to a certain one, and then you'll know which is best for YOU. Enjoy!

I recommend, with experience, free gs3 0.1.1 without the jelly bomb theme, or jelly bomb domination v 5.0, or team venum wicked sensations 1.1. All are great. Jelly bomb domination is a team venum wicked sensation base with an incredible jelly bomb theme. You will be happy with any of the 3. Big shout out to Clark44, Josh Beach, team sonic, and team venum for bringing 3 amazing roms to our device. Also, thank Nanddict for his theme work on the roms.

ROM help

Is there a place that lists most/all/many of the popular ROMs and their haves/not haves?
I had VaelPak on my old Evo 4g and it had a really neat feature that I could remove all the sliders from the lock screen and use gestures that I create to unlock it. I could also set applications to open with certian gestures. Would love that if any ROMs have it. I heard a while back that one of the CMs did, but not sure if CM9 or 10 have it.
I am looking for a very customizable ROM that can do call recording, I also really like the Samsung keyboard. And I want a ROM that all components (wifi/4g/camera/NFC) still work. also need wifi teather, but I think most ROMs have that.
I did look in the development forum, but many don't list the features and "broken" parts.
Bob
Just stick with touchwiz ROMs . and there isn't such a thing as the best ROM. Every ROM is great in its own way and all depends on the user. Touchwiz can do all that you are asking . unsure about call recording. There might be an app for that on the market.

Whats wrong with something aosp based? Cm10 reached its stable release and runs flawless. even the nightlys of 10.1 are stable as hell for being brand new and expected to have bugs. Touchwiz sucks and lags like hell. Nicks that shiit, you wont regret it. And if youre looking to customize a lot try aokp. Youll spend days customizing it.

LOL Now now. I didn't mean to start anything. I know there will be several opinions and I expect to flash at least 3 or 4 ROMs just trying to not flash 20 ROMs. Takes too long to configure each one.
One question about AOKP. is that a "type" of ROM or is that "A" ROM? Also I find a lot of different things about CM10, but I am still not sure where to get the stable release. I am not interested in nightlies or test versions. And I have flashed my share of ROMs but what are gaps? That is a new one.
Thanks for all your help!

First, its not his epic fail... no one knows why it does it. Also, try anti-venom script. Worked for me. Also, please keep in mind, these guys do all this for free in their spare time... don't talk crap about them for something such as this. You kinda need to know why it does it before you can fix it.

Seems standard one would test to see if other roms could be flashed after the fact. That would seem a normal behavior of anyone who flashes roms. Wasn't insulting the guy personally, just his rom for screwing up half the boards phones. Lol. Also I think that script requires a pay app or something for flashing. Cwm doesn't work does it? Or did that change?

I would also add that viper was beta tested for literally months before it was released. No genius tried flashing cm10 somewhere in there? Maybe the author didn't fail I don't know. Either that or the entire beta process is fail. Flashing other roms seems awfully basic. Just thought I'd add that to my last comment though. Again not insulting any dev personally. Just the rom. Months of beta testing to release a rom that screws up your phone is hard to describe in any way other than fail.

Actually, the script is something you flash in any recovery. Its rather simple. Also, I'd challenge you on whether its basic to test that as most of the people who were on the testing team weren't exactly worried about flashing other ROMs after viper... myself included. Whether you're insulting any person or not, you're still calling someone's work (something that shouldn't even be able to work on this phone no less) garbage is rather insulting no matter if you meant it as such or not. Also, check this: the ROM hasn't screwed up anyone's phone, and last I checked there's a disclaimer that says flash at your own risk. I was a beta tester and I'll have you know its one of the best testing groups I've been a part of and everything was covered. Absolutely none of the testing team encountered any issues that weren't soon fixed after. Any and all issues found through testing were eradicated. Only so much can be tested, however, and every device is different. In testing we encountered no problems whatsoever, and the fact that you would make statements such as this is appalling. Also keep in mind cm10 is currently running on a hacked up gingerbread kernel, also something that shouldn't technically work. I'm also typing this now from PACman which is part cm10 and not getting any hiccups. If you wish to continue this discussion, feel free to pm me and I'll even show you in detail the steps taken to get it all off the ground, but please do not reply here further cluttering the thread.
Also, in case you were wondering, if cwm doesn't work for flashing the script, you can always get the free version of the 4ext recovery app from 4ext.net…
Sorry dk for messing up your thread. Icons look sick bud.

Not a problem. Thanks for the info. I didn't even intend to talk about any of that at length. I think you went on about it more than I. Lol. I simply repeat it was tested for months to release a rom that messed your phone up so bad you couldn't install cm10. Seems a big oversight. I know all roms have disclaimers. Doesn't mean where one fails a failure can't be pointed out anyways. That's all I've done. Thanks for the info tho. I actually asked about it in the script thread and never heard anything definitive or the issue really discussed. I'm a simple user. Just do all flashing through cwm. Sorry this thread got off track. Didn't need to be highjacked like this. Agree. Sweet icons. Always fun to change them up!

I never make posts like this. This is usually nitsua or jizzy lately (haha).
I don't like you. From all the things I can gather about you through your posts, you are ignorant and ungrateful. I hate so much the things you've chosen to be. If you want something stable, don't root your phone. Nitsuj17, the "author" of Viper, has released quite a few ROMs for this phone despite moving on to greener pastures. He and the various devs including aeroevan, chillybean, CondemnedSoul, khamsakamal, and others I might be missing have given us ICS and even JB, which is more than we can ask of them for free and more than we've seen from HTC.
Have I encountered lag on ICS/JB ROMs? Yes. Does it suck, yeah. But that's part of the game when you root your phone sometimes. All of our latest ROMs are using a kernel that's too old because newer source isn't available due to being left out to dry by HTC. Be happy you get to even see 4.0+ at this point. Have some respect please, and maybe you'll have ours someday.
Good day, sir.

you are a complete jackass......viper rom was tested for months, and part of testing isnt "can xyz rom work after using this rom", it was verifying the rom itself worked for the end user....the aosp install scripts dont wipe / format all partitions that viper does, so not everything was getting wiped properly for those trying to go cm9/10....someone else made a script to wipe between viper and cm9, so great
you have never contributed anything ot this community except to piss me off and make yourself look like a jerk, congrats...its people like you that make devs want to walk away and say make your own ****ing roms :good:

I've only been in this thread for 2 minutes and already I can tell you are a complete worthless contribution to this community and the Android system all together. It is people like you who make the iPhone people actually have a point. You are everything that Android should not be, do us all a favor and just shut your mouth or go get an iPhone because clearly you don't deserve the benefits of Android. You do nothing for this community, and just run your mouth like you know what you are talking about, offending contributors that spend hours upon hours of their free time to do this. If you are too dumb to figure out how to flash from one ROM to the next that is not the developers fault, it is user error, and not just user error you come here and bash people because of your stupidity. It's people like you that make the real contributors not even want to publicly release their work. Go away, grow up, get a life, and get off mommy and daddys verizon plan, we don't want you here.

Nobody's hating

E4GT - Current State of Affairs.

Ok so looking at soo many recent posts about rooting, modems and latest OTA and a lot of confusion among new users, I have decided to start this thread where I will update the latest developments for our Galaxy SII (SPH-D710).
Latest OTA:- ICS FL24
Latest Leak:- JB GB27
"Optional" Official update:- JB GB27 (Only available via Kies)
AOSP Support:
CM10 - Beta
CM10.1 - Unofficial
Paranoid Android - Official
BAKED BlackBean - Unofficial
AoCP The Collective - Unofficial
PACman - Official
Evervolv - Official
ROMs:
-Flash a ROM from development forums and figure out which one you like.
-If you are smart enough, you will easily be able to figure out by scanning through first 2-3 pages in development forums that which ROMs are popular and updated.
-Don't ask for best/perfect/bugless/battery lasts a week ROMs. Every user is different and everyone uses their phone in his/her own way. For example some may watch videos all day and some may text all day. So your usage varies and your definition of a perfect rom varies.
-Don't be like.. "I am a noob and am scared to flash many different ROMs." or "I don't have time to try different ROMs."
-To people like you, ever wonder if the developers here would be like I don't have time for making a thread for my ROM and provide support for it but I am going to use it personally and never share it? Devs like to develop ROMs and they like to share their work. Respect it and don't complain and moan.
Root:
-Exynos abuse to gain root was possible using an app but it was patched in the FL24 OTA so you cannot use the app to root anymore
-Root using the full odin one click .exe files. You need a PC for that. Don't have a computer? Sorry, find one.
-If you updated to JellyBean GB27 using kies and lost root, follow this to get it back - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34297546
Kernel:
-You don't need a custom kernel just because you are rooted. Stop complicating things. If you think this is all confusing. It is not. So re-read everything again. Repeat again if still confused. Trust me, if you read this stuff 2-3 times, it will all make sense.
-Don't use the SXTP FL24 kernel, it has caused random reboots for quite a few. So don't complain if you flashed that.
-If you want a custom recovery to make a backup, use the kuban custom kernel or Agat's kernel which comes with its own recovery to do so. Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826190 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
-If you want to flash a new ROM, follow the steps in post 2 here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953783
-Have questions? Did you follow the steps and read everything twice?
Modems:
-If you are one of those who tries every new JellyBean leak or touchwiz JellyBean custom roms, you should know that for data to work on these ROMs, you can only use a JB modem.
-So when you flash to ANY other ROM, let it be AOSP based JB ROMs, ICS ROMs or GB ROMs, make sure you flash a non JB modem.
JellyBean Leaks:
-Yes you can try them. The newer leaks are stable. They are awesome. Don't complain about issues with them. They are just leaks. ROMs based on them are also based on leaks.
-We do not have source for JellyBean from Samsung. Expect some issues due to that, especially slow data on AOSP JB ROMs.
-Yes we are all waiting for Samsung and Sprint to update our phones to JellyBean. Don't ask when. No one knows.
Tools and Files:
-Everything you need is on www.rwilco12.com
-Also individual threads are in development forums.
-Stock Roms - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903252
-Kernels - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662295
-Modems - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210
- Hope this clears up things for some and helps out.
- I don't mind general discussion in the thread.
Attention all new XDA members and E4GT owners. First off, welcome to the community. Here are some great links to start with.
Getting started on XDA
Forum rules
You are a noob on XDA
Here at XDA Developers, we welcome users from all walks of life. We were all new at some point and we understand that you may be overwhelmed by the vast amount of information available.
I cannot stress this enough. READ READ READ! If you are still unsure about something, read the original post and the first few pages of whatever ROM/MOD/Tweak that you are interested in trying on your device. Your question may already be answered in those first few pages. Don't feel like anyone is attacking/flaming you for asking a question, usually in that scenario we have already answered that question many times and it is available for everyone to read.
Google is your best friend. Search for whatever you may be looking for with keywords relating to the topic you are looking for. Excuses like "I don't have time to search for that" will not be tolerated and your question may be ignored. We might just give you a link to lmgtfy.
Forum categories and what they are meant for. The names say it all. There are also important threads known as stickies in each sub forum. I highly recommend reading these, they are full of great information.
General
The general sub-forum is meant to be used to discuss general topics. Such as news relating to the forum you are viewing, upcoming ROMs, and off-topic banter such as McLeary's Pub
Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
This is where you can search for questions that have already been asked and solved. If you encounter a ROM specific issue, this may not be the best place to ask your question. If you are having trouble with an app or a program such as Odin or ADB, this would be a great place to ask your question.
Android Development
This is where you will find ROMs, mostly Touchwiz and a few modified AOSP ROMs. There are also tweaks for Touchwiz based ROMs that should be posted here. Do not create a new thread to ask a question here.
Original Development
This is where you will find mostly AOSP ROMs which are built from the source and are uploaded after they have finished compiling. The only exceptions here are original development such as tools which make development easier or tutorials for developing kernels, Calkulins EL29 since this was the original custom ROM for the E4GT. I think it should be in Android Development but I have no say in whether or not it should be moved.
Themes & Apps
This is where you will find discussion about various themes and modifications for your custom ROM. You can also find tutorials for various mods that change the appearance and functionality. If you find a nice app and would like to share your find with the community you may create a new thread here. App discussion is okay.
I'll update this periodically. I'm done for now. Hope you have a better experience after reading this. Good luck and enjoy the awesomeness we call XDA.
If you have any questions or need help with something, feel free to PM me. I will do the best that I can to help you. I am almost always online or checking in frequently.
Be careful... graydiggy is always ready to layeth the smacketh down on some noobs.

It was an exploit in the kernel, it should be called Exynos abuse. It was a root exploit in the kernel that could be manipulated thru a simple command with no user knowledge or input, hence why it was patched. Rogue apps could surreptitiously gain root access without the users knowledge. It was also used for an app based root exploit on devices with the exynos 4 based SoC.

Exynos Abuse by Chainfire. The exploit was brought to Samsung's attention and it was patched. They released a 2nd maintenance release for ICS which patched the exploit in FL24. Our developers here on XDA also patched the kernels, it was actually before Samsung did. Now all current and future builds are patched against the exploit.

Seriously I sleep like 4 or 5 hours a day and first thing I do I check xda while I'm doing my morning smoke 5 ciggs and take my constitutional, then I check every 5 to 15 minutes throughout the day sometimes I just keep hopping devices for a few hours straight. I'm like a junkie and xda is my heroin lmao. I wanna get some of those augmented reality glasses so I can practically mainline Tapatalk thru my eyeballs lol
Really I love reading stuff I'm interested in and im a research junkie so I'm constantly checked for new info to infuse into my brain. I'm always trying to learn more tricks to attempt things others tried but failed. I've got a new rom type I'm working on for twiz devices called AOSC which is android open source clone where im cloning twiz to look and function like aosp but retaining all stock twiz features. I've currently cloned vanilla rootbox 95%, I've got everything done but 4.2 noti toggles and hybrid UI/twiz launcher, 3rd party launchers I can force tablet mode, but im having issues with resizing on sysui and the twiz launcher. I'm gonna release a semi beta for the note 2 as soon as I update to the latest OTA. The features shouldn't be too hard to port to other twiz roms and my work will be open for anyone to port to their sammy device. I love aosp but I miss the functions and stability of stock firmware so I'm cloning aosp into twiz by making or cannibilizing the features to clone into twiz.

SGH-T889 UVBMB4 4.1.2 What is the best roms that work with this phone?

I currently am running Frosty Bean and it is a fine rom. I would like to try others to compare but run into Google login, apn issues etc.
I've done all the wipe dalvik, system cache, etc.. but haven't been able to get any others to settle in and run.
This isnt my first rodeo I've flashed my Lg g2x tons of times. I see the modems vary here by models.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx XDA

A third on Tweaked 2.3 rom.
two things that got me into tweaked away from jedi series roms
*you can hide that stupid blocking icon when you turn on blocking mode
*WORKING group text messaging!!!!!!!!!
it has all the pluses of Jedi Master 14 and more customization ohh yeah working wifi calling tooo:good::good::good::good::good::good:
Tweaked FTW!! Definitely worth a peak.
sgh-TWEAKED-889©
one other thing i might add to why i like tweaked over Jedi, low battery notification disable. this is especially usefull when you have a 9300mah ZeroLemon battery, where you can stay at 5% for 8 hours..that beep and nag starting at 15% can lasts for hours on end!!
Yes, go tweaked. The dev is an actual Dev, not just someone who dumps a bunch of random mods on the rom. He actually knows what he is doing. Try it out!

Hey guys, Tweaked is the truth abs by far the best ROM for our phones, but be careful. Some especially this last post are coming off pretty disrespectful to our devs. pmtr3 does some amazing work and a lot of original work. Just don't want this to stay making devs want to quit supporting a community because they feel like it's disrespectful.
By the way xamindar, give it a shot just "dumping random mods" and let me know how stable that turns out. A lot of work goes into even the "basic" ROMs.

If i sounded like i was being disrespectful, I apologize. No way did i mean it to come off that way. I appreciate what YOU Developers do for us. I know i cant do what you guys do. Jedi/pmtr3 roms and kernals are great thats why i use it as a reference standard to compare to.
I should have chose my words better since i didnt think that it would offend someone else. sorry
Tweaked is the business. The dev is super mature, very amazing attitude and personality and his work matches these qualities, bar none. It's also a joy to see a community very, very active. It means that this ROM gets a lot of dialogue in its thread, which leads to great ideas, trials, progress and advancement. I came from another ROM that just went stale. No dialogue. And I've tried other ROMs on XDA which are pretty ingenious and brilliant, but the smoothness of Tweaked, the vision it projects and employs and support it has is amazing. And nothing ever feels broken. More and more conversations are about progression than fixing something that's legitimately broken in the ROM. The Dev is also extremely approachable....if you have ideas, just Private Message (the preferred method) the Dev and you'll see how engaging he becomes. Very, very professional feel to this community. Check it out.

You didn't offend me and I'm no Dev. I'm just trying to learn. My comment was more directed at the other guy who came off very disrespectful (whether meant or not). I don't want people like pmtr3 or the other real devs to get offended. I mean tweaked is the best, but you can never have to many options.

To me, Tweaked is the best fit for my tastes. It's rock solid, and like others have already said here, Dwitherell is amazing and his OCD leads to a very polished final product for us to enjoy. the degree of customization you have is
Unparalleled. Not only options you set when you flash, but also through TSM parts. The initial Lure for me was the ability to hide that damn annoying persistent notification for Smart stay and blocking mode... Etc.
I could go on and on... But really... Flashing is easy and fun... I recommend trying as many as you want and decide for yourself.
Plus... Tweaked had something no other ROM does.... ALEXIA!

WHAO dude. No need to get offended as I was not directing that towards anyone. I don't think it is very nice of you to throw out other devs names as of trying to defend them for something that wasn't meant towards them either. This can make them look bad.
And your second paragraph is what I am talking about. People who throw random mods together and call it a new rom usually end up creating something very unstable. Point is, tweaked is NOT this.

Again, I'm not offended I just didn't want it to go there of insulting the hard work or devs do. I may have took your quote wrong as saying that's what the other devs do. So I was just thinking of the biggest ROM and dev we had and said that's not what he does. So for the misunderstanding I'm sorry.
All our devs do great work, but I do agree dwitherell is on another level! He originates mods and has been since the DROID charge!

If he wants AOSP, I've tried most of them and, in my opinion, Sinless ROM GooglePlay Rendition is the best. SUPER FAST. Or Gummy Rom which is also great. If he wants TW, I would go either Jedi or DarthStalker although they're both JB. TW kitkat I would go with MyRom, but its a bit finicky.

One of the roms that I like personally is X note rom. It's a rom for international version hence there's a need to flash a fix file.
Currently it's based on kit Kat and hence I am waiting for a proper kernel and the fix file.
This rom has some good features that are useful for me

Hmm, I love AOSP, but I'm not sure I'd load up AOSP for someone who can't figure out how to do it themselves. More than likely, it will not be as stable or feature rich for the end user as compared with TW. I would highly recommend Tweaked 2.0. It's stock based, and all the options/features implemented are completely stable and do not interfere with each other. Tweaked is what you can load for your significant other without having to hear them complain 3 days later about how their "phone messed up".
Jedi Elite v5 w/ Saber.
The ROM is super stable, solid and clean. Battery life is excellent.
Look no further...just flash this ROM.
