I removed back cover from kindle, rear cover did not seat fully upon re install. Loose on two corners.
was wondering if anyone has had there kindle apart and had a similar issue.
Was thinking of just gluing with silicon adhesive, so as to be able to remove later if needed.
Any thoughts?
Did you break any of the clips?
Must have broken something as cover does not snap back as cleanly as it did before.
It does not seam like it is going to fall off, would just like to be sure it is secure.

My roommate was playing with my dash and he broke the Volume strip. Can it be repaired? I believe it came off...
Should I glue it back on it or just buy a whole dash casing for it?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I need you to clarify. Did you just break the plastic covering over the touch strip or did the actual strip come off. If its just the plastic cover you should be able to just glue it back on. Post back
I believe it is the plastic cover just came off. Volume strip works fine, its just looks ugly and I might damage it if I continue using it.
Then just try to glue it back on and see what happens... You should be fine once you glue it back on...
There have been a lot of posts about the poor quality of the back cover. Now admittedly the back cover isn't as tough as we'd like but I think the root cause is that people didn't read the manual. (I didn't with my first cover).
You have to remove the stylus before you remove the back cover. If you don't then the force in removing the back cover bends it ever so slightly, leaving it with a poor fit (and consequently doesn't stay attached properly)
It can only take removing it once with the stylus still in place to ruin the back cover...
don't have one yet but this is a good piece of info thanks
Hey guys, i was wondering if any of you put tape on the chrome bezel before putting on cases to prevent scratches. I tried this before and it seemed to work good, but i've never seen it being mentioned in any threads.
Another reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking of ordering a hybrid case (from this thread: T-Mobile Galaxy S2 T989 Hybrid case - $8! GREAT!!)that's supposedly somewhat of a loose fit. I was planning on putting double sided tape on the bezel to make the silicone part stick right onto the bezel to fix that problem.
Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated!
Thanks guys!
Putting tape on the bezel is a good idea to prevent scratches, however, there's a chance of the adhesive becoming lose over time (especially with the warmth coming from the hand). Thus, it would also leave that sticky tape residue.
I haven't tried the case you have mentioned, but I think putting double sided tape isn't necessary. Tape will be a decent temporary fix, however, I don't think it will be strong enough to have the silicone stay in place (especially if the adhesive gets warm and loosens up as mentioned before). The case should be fine even without the tape, but you won't lose much from trying.
If you are really set on getting that case and you are looking for something that would prevent scratches on the bezel. Another alternative to tape I would recommend is this body skin. Bestskinsever is currently having a sale, just recently ordered one for myself. It will have a better aesthetic on the phone and at least not leave any adhesive residue.
Hope my feedback helps
I have the case. Its not really a loose fit because the hard part of the case holds the softer, rubber part of it into place, and its not really needed.
So the first step to any repair of the M8 seems to be removing the top an bottom grills to get at the screws so you can separate the back from the bulk of the phone.
These grill backs apparently have adhesive on them.
I know you can purchase replacement grills that have adhesive on the back already, so you can clean up the old stuff and pop the new ones on.
That seems like a waste however and I wanted to know if the existing adhesive will re-bond when heated and, if not what type of adhesive can be used to apply to make it stick back?
thanks

It will bond again - well, partly... If you don't damage to much while removing. Better buy some standard double-sided adhesive tape for phone repairs, something like this: https://eustore.ifixit.com/Werkzeuge/Verbrauchsmaterialien/3M-Doppelseitiges-Klebeband-2-mm-Breite.html

Yeah I saw this stuff on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Eco-Fused-Adhesive-Sticker-Phone-Repair/dp/B00BXYWXY8
I wondered if that was the right type of stuff.
It almost seems like the back of the grills could be coated with some type of rubber cement that covers the entirety of the back.
Ofc, you couldn't apply it like that without gumming up the speaker holes. I haven't actually seen a replacement one yet so I don't know if the adhesive is applied in just a couple strips or is actually applied to the whole back.
I think I'll probably just try to get it to rebond and if it looks horrible I'll invest in either the tape or new grills. New grills will actually be cheaper, but the tape I'll be able to use again for multiple purposes.
thanks.
btw be careful with the screws underneath the grill. When putting it back together you can easily break the screw threads.

a couple of strips is enough, no need to smear the whole thing
So minimal torque on those screws? Same throughout the whole device I gather?
I generally don't over-tighten screws in most electrical gadgets and am often peeved at how tight they come out of the factory. While these things get a lot of bouncing around in pockets and such, they aren't high performance vehicles. I'm even more amazed when I find a (non laptop) computer which needs the damn Hulk to remove something from it
For anyone contemplating these repairs, they turned out to be much simpler than I expected.
Camera lens
The lens can actually be replaced without removing the rear cover of the phone. Simply use a knife to carefully gouge out the broken glass, clean off the old glue, then stick the new ones into place.
Rear cover
I bought an original Xiaomi cover on Ali Express for $60. They seem to be getting more and more scarce, so if you're thinking about doing it, do it sooner rather than later.
To remove, I heated the edges a little with a hairdryer, then wiggled a work knife into the gap and worked my way around, sliding the knife and lifting. Once you get it going it's not difficult, but you need a little patience. Once you get enough done, lift the cover to get the rest of it off.
Be careful with lifting because the fingerprint sensor is attached. To remove it at the phone end, the connector is very small but easy to get off, it's a press-in connector, so just carefully insert the very corner of your knife under the edge and lift. It comes off easily, so if you're having to work at it you're doing it wrong.
To remove the sensor from the old cover, warm it with the hair dyrer, then use a very thin knife or blade and work carefully around the edge. It won't come out until you've worked all the way round, lifting more than cutting. Once out, the glue is recessed slightly, so the sensor stands out and fits into the hole in the cover, which means positioning isn't a problem. You can probably buy the glue piece, but I didn't have it so I just put it back in the new cover using the old glue, I warmed it a bit and then weighted it back in place for a while. It seemed to be pretty firmly in place, and I don't think it's going anywhere anyway once the cover is back on, since it's up against the rest of the phone.
Check around the edges of the phone for remnants of the old glue. It comes out easily, just push a bit with the knife to get the end up, then lift and pull and it'll come out in a single strand.
The replacement cover comes pre-glued, although it's not really glue, more of a sticky seal. Starting at the camera end, position the cover and push it into place. There's a pop when it goes in, and I think even without the glue it would be fine. I then warmed the edges and weighted it down for a while.
Hello comrade, thank you for sharing your experience.
Now, it wouldn't be a bad idea to share with us the links (if XDA allows this kind of links) for the purchase of your spare parts.
Internet is very rough, and in my case, I buy almost everything in Aliexpress, it is very difficult to find good sellers with good prices.
This way, your contribution will be much more complete.
Thanks a lot, and greetings.
Hi
I will attempt a similar replacement but I just have some questions. How did you swap the nfc and wireless charging coil and do you think it is possible to do a "clear" version of the back cover (removing the interior paint)
thank you
