Has anyone found a workaround for conditional call forwarding issue with t-mobile prepaid? I NEED my google visual voicemail and I wanna use my ported SIM card number. There has to be a fix for this!
I wonder why tmobile would not allow this?
I would be nice to start a signature sheet showing the interest in them fixing this setting.
I would like to see this working also, but it's up to T-Mo...

I think for now the only "fix" is to start a new SIM account with a throwaway number and port your desired number from T-MO to Google Voice. Don't give out the throwaway number and use GV for everything.
The problem with that is that you use their sms services. No MMS and the phone doesn't control the sms at all.
I have a straight talk sim on the way and I am gonna compare the service, although it doesn't look good with straight talk in NYC.

Using GV for everything isn't as scary as people think. I quickly got over the lack of MMS support (email is a better standard for such things anyway). I love the ability to text from my main number in the browser regardless of how far away I am from my phone.

Just FYI the new Solavei service which operates on T-Mobile has call forwarding. I know because mine is working right now. You can visit this thread for discussion about it if you like.

Straight Talk has conditional call forwarding. I'm using it right now.
Yeah straighttalk has it but doesnt work well in NYC. I am however trying it out. If the speeds and coverage is close I might switch. I just dont wanna get cut off and loose my number as is the case with some people.

If nothing else works you can call t mobile customer service and ask them to remove voice mail completely - I made two Boost mobile phones work with Google Voice that way - it works perfectly.
This would obviously work if you want to use GV number for everything - for me it is no problem since I use mostly Google Voice numbers since 2005 or 2006, or from the beginning of GrandCentral.
I've made the switch to just Google voice and I never looked back. I don't even know what my "real" number is. Like someone else said about MMS, emailing pics works just fine for me.

Straight Talk ATT sim has conditional call forwarding... Straight Talk T-Mobile sim does not....
That's the choice... faster data or google voice for voicemail.... I've been on Tmobile $30 plan for over 2 months now.. Data is great, but I have found that 2GB is enough for me a lot thanks to Opera Mini and the voip solutions have not worked well. I really has a disdane for calling / prompt voicemail so I am going to give the ATT service a try here in Portland next month. I'll post some results when I get the ST ATT sim

The only problem you will have is if someone calls your TMobile number when it's time to go to voicemail it will not go to Google voice voicemail. This it not a problem if, like me, no one has your TMobile number anyways. Everything else works the same way that is does on Verizon.
You can have TMobile disable voice mail so if some random person calls your TMobile number you won't ever have to worry about getting the vm from someone you don't know. Ie tele marketers.

The text messages are handled through google voice too?
I ported my number to Google and use GV integration app so I can use stock messaging app. No problem at all except for not being able to send MMS, however I receive every MMS sent to me automatically via Google's MMS to email feature.
P.S. Im on straight talk /T-Mobile

This only works if the MMS is from a Sprint user though.

I heard you had to have text to email turned on for that. Can anyone confirm this? I'd rather not have my mailbox receiving tons of emails just to receive a few MMS.
So no knowledge of a difference in the Sprint version of Google Voice that enables the MMS to come through?
Sort of how the Blackboard app is only for Sprint, but a change was made that enabled it on all carriers?
I received one the other day, it sends a text then emails the text/picture to you.
EDIT: Also, I dont have email or anything turned on, it just forwards the email to you since the app doesn't support it yet.

Any idea how long it took to receive it? I had a friend text me twice with pictures attached around 2.5 hours ago and still nothing in my google voice inbox, my Gmail, or my text messages

It doesn't matter if you are on Sprint... it matters if the picture sender is on Sprint.
You will only get the picture forwarded to your email if the picture sender is on Sprint, regardless of what you are on. So the person who sent kangxi's girlfriend a picture is on Sprint. Same with the person who sent VinceT3 a picture.
This is disappointing. I cannot abide paying for text and data plans. Maybe if I decide to move to VZW I will finally break down and get FB or Google+ and use those for "MMS" texts.
I know whenever I get a text via Google Voice it shows up in my Handcent SMS app. Do you want me to do some digging and see what my settings are? Or am I missing the point?
Edit: oh I see now, your talking about MMS not SMS, sorry I guess I can't read and comprehend right now. It must be getting late for me lol.

Sprints MMS for Google voice is different because you merge your Google voice account into your mobile account.

Not from the GV number. You could from the new reassigned VZW number.
well that sucks i was trying to avoid using any other kind of number..maybe i should reconsider keeping my old number
Rumor is they are working with Verizon on gv mms support but for now its only sprint as mentioned. The hack is indeed to fwd gv copies to email as a way to get the mms content.

One thing that needs to be mentioned about how Sprint and GV integrated is that you only have one number. I haven't heard about Sprint members getting MMS when they have a different GV number than their cell #. Remember how this works. If you have 2 numbers then you send and receive MMS from the actual carrier number. On Sprint once you "integrate" your Sprint number, there is only one number being shared. There is no forwarding from one number to another. So when someone sends a MMS it falls off GV and going right to the same number on the cell. I am pretty sure there is more to it. But in simple terms, there is only 1 number being shared on Sprint and GV. If that makes sense.

Well known. GV has never supported MMS except on Sprint "integrated Google Voice" accounts.

uh, it's one way but it does work with verizon.
you can get MMS (and it gets emailed), but not send. Not sure when the send parts coming but it's more people being sticklers for how they want to send it(who needs it as a text message, truly?)
You will only be able to "see" it as a fowarded email if it has been sent FROM a sprint subscriber. http://googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/first-steps-towards-mms-support.html And yes if you are on sprint yourself and have chosen to INTEGRATE your sprint and GV #, MMS are recieved like normal on your stock native messaging app, not in the GV app.
So long story short had an Epic 4g Touch on Virgin Mobile's $25 plan but need unlimited minutes now so I switched to page plus 2 weeks ago in hopes of flashing my e4gt to page plus. But I missed the unlimited data so decided to go with a gsm gnex and straight talk. Already have the phone and sim should be here today or tomorrow and I will be porting my number over.
Question is should I just port my number to Google Voice to avoid this hassle in the future? Is GV reliable? I can still use the stock phone and messaging app right (CM10 is the OS ill be on)? Is there any way to get MMS, like MMS-to-Email on sprint? Anything else I should take into consideration?
So should I just port my number to straight talk or port it to google voice?

I say google voice (and forward it to whatever number at the time). The tricky bit is that smses would come from your original number unless you send them with voice also.

I recently ported my number to Straight Talk and it was active in about 20 minutes. As long as you have all the information they need to port, it's extremely painless.

I use Google voice with its own number. I use the app. My Google number shows on text to them just fine. nobody had real number. I use groove ip to make calls thru voice. I set it up this way so that if gonna be late on Bill or whatever i still have"service" that people can call and text me with provided I'm in wifi. actually ran it this way for about a year without any service at all. . Just Google. Since everyone already had my Google i never worried about missing calls or text. If i left wifi zone Google stored all missed notifications so could retrieve once in wifi again. Ill promote.voice any day of the week.

Just set up a Google seperately. Give everyone that number. Once service is up and running forward calls from the Google to your number. Then will have service until they get it going and won't have to tell people to go back to old number. Will always have a phone too

Finally got my number ported to my at&t straight talk sim and all I have to say is damn this data is fast! 10x faster than my old virgin mobile trash. Even faster than my home DSL. Very happy now.
I think I'll hold off on Google voice for now though. My girl is always sending me picture messages.

I had my Sprint number. When Google voice came out and Sprint allowed integration, I did that. Last week I ported my Sprint/GV number over to Straight Talk (after buying an HTC One X+).
I want to get text messages in GV, not the HTC messaging app. I want to make phone calls from my normal GV number, and when I get a voicemail, i want that to come through GV as well. Basically, I want GV to do what is was doing for me on Sprint, handling my voicemail and my texts (both sending and receiving).
Currently, when my wife calls/texts me (she is still on Sprint), GV takes the voicemail/text. Perfect! But when other people call my voicemail gives a message saying that I haven't set up my voicemail box yet (Straight talk seems to not do this very well), and text messages all go into the HTC messaging app. Sending messages from GV or HTC messenger both work fine.
Does anyone have any help for me? Do I need to switch my number with Straight Talk and just have my old number stored in GV, then do the forwarding thing? Can I do that with outgoing calls, so they appear to come from my "old" phone number? Any help you can provide would me most appreciated.

Please forgive me for being obtuse, but can you be a little more specific? I'm struggling with this question and would like more instruction. Did you mean that I need a second, non-GV number as my cell phone number? Or something else? I'm easily confused this week.

There's a spot in the GV settings to have your texts only appear in the GV app... or just remove notifications from the GV app and you're problem is solved (only using the HTC app then.)
You need a separate number on straight talk and then just forward your GV number to that one. (I believe that step needs to be done from a PC.) Once you've done that you can still make your calls using the GV app, just select it to be used for all calls.

Matt, hopefully this reply won't be too late for it to help you. I've been recovering from surgery.
I actually have done this both ways now, so I think I can speak to various issues.
On My Phone:
I kept my main number with Google Voice and got a StraightTalk SIM with some other number. All of my calls, both incoming and outgoing, I route through GV (a simple setting in GV), and all my texts come through the GV app by default. I'm probably missing my MMS's, but that doesn't bother me as I only used to get 2-3 per year.
On My Wife's Phone:
She was much more concerned with GV's lack of text message threading, so we opted to port her Spring/GV number over to StraightTalk. Her voicemails go though ST, and cannot be transcribed. Her texts through her messenger app, and all her calls though ST. Basically she left GV. There is an option to still have GV try to grab your voicemails and transcribe them instead of going through ST, but ST does not support that feature, so it cannot be done.
Where you say "But NOT lose the GV feature associated with that number." I'm a bit confused. When I think of GV features, I think of text over data/from computer & voicemail recording, but you seem to imply there is some other I'm missing.

Thank you, actually about to activate tonight with a ST number and route through GV. As far as the GV features i was referring mainly to the web integration. Love being able to check my txt and VMs from a browser. I know there are some apps that allow such but i like the way GV does it. I knew what i wanted wasnt possible but i had hoped. I wanted to think that i could port my GV number to ST so that it would be the native and only number to the phone and still have GV work as it does now without sacrificing anything. I knew it wasn't a reasonable wish. Should things ever change i can always port my GV number out another day.

Matt, a quick update:
So there is a setting on the GV website that allows you to get your text messages through your phone's text message app, and a setting in the GV app that allows you to turn off GV notifications on your phone. Thus, you could conceivably use your phone as it was meant to be used (for SMS), and just keep the VM options enabled. I hadn't really known what that option did before, but it seems it may be helpful for you.

I recently purchased a Nexus 4 from the Play Store and started a Monthly4G prepaid plan through T-Mobile. Everything works perfectly except for Google Voice. I add the T-Mobile number to the forward settings in Voice and it sets up calling just fine, but when I attempt to send text messages I get nothing but messages being "queued." I attempt to view messages in my inbox on the device I get an error saying "Network Error." Ever since adding this number I haven't been receiving notifications for new texts in Growl Voice and the Google Voice website doesn't load my inbox or settings either. Any ideas?

Did you update Google Voice to the latest version yet? Google Voice had an issue with texting on 4.2 until an update got released recently.

This ^^^^ is your problem. You won't get gvoice to set up on tmo prepaid. Sorry man. Unless something has changed in the past 3 weeks.

I'm using it on mine no problem. Must use latest 4.2 compatible version. Also have to call Tmo and tell them to disable voicemail on your prepaid account then all messages will forward.

I've already called T-Mo and all that. I've had my voicemail disabled. It is more of an issue with the site's inbox not loading. It gives me an error "There was an error with your request. Please try again" and messages are constantly being queued on my Nexus 4 and 7, more so than usual. This all started when I added the N4 to my Voice call forwarding register.
What? Google voice works just fine with monthly 4g. You don't get conditional call forwarding but that's not the issue the OP is referencing.

Yeah, my internet certainly isn't out. I'm not quite sure what it is. I sign into my friend's account on my computer and it accesses the inbox just fine. It appears to be an account specific problem.
Anyone else having problems where Google voice keeps giving notifications for old voice mails when the option to show voice mails in the native phone app is enabled?
So annoying. Every 12 or so hours, it pops up with a notification for 6 voice mails or something, all of which are old. I even make sure they were shown as read in the ap, and I played all of them and made sure they were read in the phone app.

I just got a group MMS on Google voice from an AT&T user.... This shouldn't be possible right? What just happened?
I am in the process of porting my number away from Google Voice cause I hate the lack of MMS support, maybe a glitch?
I'm posting here because I want someone else to check without making a dedicated thread...I have so little faith Google has done anything ... Its probably a glitch

At this point there's no way to use Google voice text messaging and voicemail services for TMobile pre-paid? Such a shame if so.

YES YOU CAN. Why is this rumor getting started. I 100% use Google Voice on my Pre-paid TMO $30 a month plan.
Disable voicemail by calling T-mobile. That way your T-mobile voicemail doesn't kick in before your GVoice mail does.
Use the Google Voice app to send and receive text messages. This way you 100% know things are getting to you. I by-pass the built in messenger app which may be why some people are having issues.
That is it.

+1 here. Was on s3 with Google voice and now on the n4. Works just as it should. I had called T-Mobile to turn off my voicemail so I can let the voice voicemail get it instead

+2 been using it since the plan launched.
When you first get the plan call T-Mobile. Ask to have voice mail disabled (there is no conditional forwarding, as has said), and also have them remove web-guard. When someone calls your phone, if you don't answer, google voice should time-out after x rings and take the voice mail (this is the reason you disable it on T-Mobile, or else T-Mobiles system will take the call).

When I try to enable GV voicemail by entering the code *004*GV Number here# I get a error message. I got this on two different Android devices. What am I missing? Are you saying once I disable the TMo voicemail this code should go through next time?
The google voice number is not the same as my mobile number if that makes a difference.
Unfortunately, i'm unable to send text messages and i'm wondering if it has to do with entering that code number through your dialer. Worked like a charm before when I was not on a prepaid plan.

You just don't worry about any of that. No need to dial anything or enter any codes.
Someone dials your google voice number, it rings until your google voicemail picks up. Simple as that.
If someone dials your pre-paid number, it will ring and ring and ring and ring.
To send texts just use the Google Voice app.

Do I have to port my number through Google Voice for this to happen successfully? Right now my google voice number is different than my mobile number.

According to Google Voice, some prepaid carriers do not support changing your voice mail automatic forwarding number:

I called Tmobile's prepaid support number and they confirmed that they make you pay for a contract plan in order to enable this feature.
So, I was wondering...is this something maybe a custom ROM could fix?
I have no idea of custom ROMs have the ability to forward a call, but it seems like it'd be quite useful?

Nope, that's a network feature, the ROM can't do anything about it. There IS an option though, but it only helps if you have people calling your GV number.
Tell TMO you want to REMOVE voicemail from your service. They will be confused and ask a number of times if you REALLY want to do that, but insist. Once the TMO VM is gone, GV will pick up for you.
If you have people calling your TMO number though, I'm not aware of any way to do it.
If you're doing prepaid, it's nice to have people use your GV number. You can swap carriers anytime you like and you never have to tell anyone your new number. Just update your GV config and move on.

I haven't tried this out myself, but try out the app "call interceptor" from the market. Free trial, 99¢ after to keep. I don't know what it does, but somehow integrates g voice with phone. Might have a voice mail forward feature.

That's what works for me on the $30/100min plan.
As for if the ROM can do it.. You could do a few things but they would need to have a connection and use minutes. For example, your phone could do the voicemail itself. It could also do a 3-way call to send the call to Google Voice. But forwarding is done by Tmobile, so if you want reliability for weak connections or your phone is off, you need them to help. It sucks that they make that unavailable for prepaid.

Prepaid accounts don't support the "Conditional Call Forwarding" feature that you need if you want to use Google Voice for Voicemail, and a ROM can't workaround it. I used to use GV on post-paid, but now the "T-Mobile Visual Voicemail" app is good enough for me.
FWIW, there's a petition to get T-Mobile to enable call forwarding. I signed it last summer when I switched from ATT to $30 tmob prepaid. Only 174 signatures atm though :/

Now I got T-Mobile, I've been having tons of issues. More often than not, my phone no longer ring when call mage to Google Voice.
Anyone see this issue? And yes, I stop Google Voice app and the Web interface with T-Mobile number.
Not only do you have to uninstall google voice back to Carrier you must go on your Google account and disconnect from your account.
Of course google doesn’t make it easy to find. I cannot remember the correct spot to change the options and the help was not very good.
If you don't change google then when anyone calls the caller gets a message that the google subscriber is not available. That is why your phone doesn't ring.
Make sure all phone settings have T-Mobile number. Sometimes google voice doesn’t clean up nicely.

go to a laptap, go to the google voice page. now look where u usually go to logout, look underneath that blue contact picture and youll see a settings button now go click that. now be carefule, now under the phones tab make sure your mobile number you want connected is selected and if its not listed then add it. once your mobile number appears up, delete the old number. make sure the new number is selected. click save. and your set now. i hope that helped you
Thanks all. Followed the instructions and so far the phone rings when someone called my Google voice number.
But now all voice mail goes to T-Mobile and SOMETIMES the same message goes to Google Voice. Aaagghh... This is so frustrating. I never had this problem with AT&T.

And what plan do you have? If you have prepaid, you can't do the call forwarding for voicemail. There is an option though. Call 611 and tell them to disable voicemail completely. They will ask you a few times if you REALLY want that, but will do it. Now Google Voice can get the voicemail.

Yes, it's already setup in Google Voice website.
I don't know what I did, but today it is working just fine. Phone ring, voicemail goes to Google Voice. Really weird. ... Don't know if something changes on T-Mo side.
I'll keep monitoring.
