2 development threads in sprint sgs3 section*which should I use??* - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

OK so there's 2 development threads in the sprint galaxy s 3 section.
Original s3 development, and
Sprint galaxy s 3 development.
Which should I use?. Or can I use both. I'm new to sprint and to the s3.
I'm coming from T-Mobile and nexus s.
So I have no clue.. I searched but couldn't get a specific answer.
Can someone help?

Yes you can use roms from either one, read through this a bit, it explains some of the differences, there is some good info in it just skip over the trash talk

i dont get it
What's the point in having two seperate forums. Stupid and confusing if you ask me.

Thanks fellas. That thread is real helpful.
Does seem a little silly making 2 development threads, when's
There's not much development yet?

Android Development is for TW and Original is for AOSP aka CM10 AOKP and CM9.

SO..... What makes AOSP, CM10, and AOKP 'ORIGINAL'? Why not name one TW Development and the other one... Uhh... Ummmm, ' Not TW Development'?

I hope that is the case, if labled with the right tag, we will only need to focus on that when looking at topics. I for one want to focus on all Sprint related topics/questions first, and if I have time help the rest of the SGS3 owners. But Id like to be closer friends with the people that are on the same carrier as me... No offence

Don't forget ...
Don't forget (Americans often do) that there's also Rogers, Bell, and Telus, not to mention a few more in Canada.
Rogers, Bell and Telus use the AT&T I747. I'm not sure about Virgin, Mobilicity, etc.
Peter
Addendum: I really should say that Rogers, Bell and Telus use the I747, which AT&T also uses. I really don't like saying it's an AT&T I747, because it's not.
Personally, I will try and use [I747] on all my posts.

There's advantages to both ways. But I'm not sure that the average user base will be able to take advantage of this setup and NOT cause a cluster#$%@. Not to mention the tendency to repeat previously asked questions... with four times as many carriers.

Exactly, this could get bad fast, and I see even more MOD attention would be needed, idk, maybe we are wrong and this will all work out for the best. XDA is about hacking devices, not discussing carriers. Don't forget that.
Go to a carrier-related forum if you want that.
I, for one, see this as a good change. Speaking as an engineer/developer.
Already we have 2 Off-Topic threads discussing this change. Don't complain about off-topic threads when you post in them.
This is good for me, since I'm kinda sad that I'm leaving my OG Epic bretheren from sprint to head to Bid Red..

Not really a good change, a step in the right direction, yes. But I for one only want to see Sprint related general/off topic posts when I come into the SGS3 general forum. That's why I ask for the tags. I mean that is a system in its self that needs to be used here ( I would love to see that happen). I'm just saying that makes it so much easier when scanning, and when you don't want to have to subscribe to all the Sprint related topics just to keep up with what your trying to focus on is ridiculous if you ask me.

I think I found your problem.
Okay, so other than:
1. *****ing about poor coverage.
2. *****ing about LTE roll-out.
3. *****ing about bundled apps.
4. *****ing about insurance/TEP.
What else possibly belongs in the General section that's Sprint-specific?
XDA has an off-topic section. Go there if you want to talk about whatever. It's about time these forums get back to device/development. This place has been taken over by whiny 14 year olds for too long.

Tho we wouldn't have to if we had separate forums. I know in the past there were several that would cross platforms from international version to US versions and that was great, but I think it's a bit confusing to do it like this and if you're going to label every thread with a carrier anyway, why not just have it's own forum??
It is what it is I guess.

Which rom has the latest updates??

Have had this phone for under a week and just wondering which of the custom roms have the latest official updates. There seems to be so many different updates that I cant tell which one is the latest. And I dont mean the jelly bean leaks. Right now Im running FreeGs3 Release 6 and seems to be pretty good. Also any advise in which tw roms you guys think are the best, and which ones get updated more frequently, battery life,, etc.. Any info would be very appreciated. Thanks

UVALH2 is the latest official release. So look for roms based on that.
FreeGS3 is an outstanding rom imo, based on UVALG1 which is one of two out of box builds.
UVALEM is the original.
Everything else are leaks. The latest being UVDLI8. The latest jb leaks have bern somewhat buggy and addicted to the juice. The most developed of these are wildchlds XquiziT xD and djintrigues Frosty jb. Wanam just released an LI8 build as well.
Xquizit is based on LI8 and Sprints recent leak.
Frosty is based on UVDLI6 and 7.
There are a number of other roms obviously but these are the ones i am personally familiar with.
Hope it helps.

He asked how often the devs update their ROMs. It's kind of a question that needs to be answered by reading post 1 in each ROMs thread. Unless you want to go copy and paste all of it don't criticize me? What I said had NOTHING to do with docs post.

Thanks! There really are a lot of great people here, some more visible than others, and a lot of them know a lot more than i do and often prove to be more help than me!
Just remember to take some stuff extra lightly, especially in the general and q&a sections. There really are a lot of threads and questions that get repeated over and over. in my opinion its usually not so much the person or the question, but for many people its the giving of the same answers over and over again. it can just get a little tiring. (As much as i enjoy helping everyone, every now and then i just have to take a break from certain areas!)
You will probably find that once youve become used to the people here, that many of the folks you thought were rude or inconsiderate will wind up being extremely helpful and may even save your ass someday! Its just that they may have already answered a similar or same question multiple times.

I wasn't criticizing you. It's just that your post isn't helpful. It's just a smartass remark. The guy even stated that he just came over and wanted specific questions answered. It's not like he went and ask a n00b question like "what's the best Rom". What i was saying is that his question led to an answer that is very beneficial to everyone. You feel me?
This is a community, why are you going to be on a forum if you're just gonna make smart sarcastic remarks to everything? It doesn't hurt to ask question. If you need help them ask. People are willing to answer it. But you seem to be bothered by every little question possible. Are you trying to be the bad guy on this forum or something?
I don't have anything against you, and i can tell you're a smart guy, but if you're not willing to share knowledge and help others, don't bring them down.

You said it doc, it's not unusual to see a lot of the same questions asked over and over, but it happens especially the first few months of new phone releases. We came from the T-Mobile s2 and we were known as the dark corner of xda for a bit lol so we're use to it. But things got sorted out and the s2 section became actually a cool place.
For example, all the root and recovery questions. There are like 4-5 threads here that talks about root. There's bound to be confusion. it'll be nice if someone compiled a thread with all the root methods and troubleshooting

[Q] Advanced developer section

I see a new section for advance developers and have a terrible urge to ask simple questions in that section. How can I effectively resist the urge to upset developers and moderators alike?
Two questions
-Where do you see this 'advanced developer' section?
-Why do you feel like you absolutely need to post something in it?

Take a look in the Development section
The KF is not an OG nor is it from the CPT.
There is no current AOKP. You can use the pure AOSP r1 build, Official CM10.1 nightly, cm10.1 w/ SGT7, or any of the other roms in dev section.
Look at my signature for the most recent builds.

Hints why I said "making sure I didn't miss anything." It could be possible that it is only posted on another forum besides XDA since Paacman for the Razr HD is only available officially at Droid-Hive but yet you can find roms on DroidRazr that you cant find here, and vice versa.

Lol try following your advice. Do you realize how many threads aokp is mentioned in just in the dev section? I did search..again...hints the words did I overlook something. I couldn't have over looked it if I didn't look/search in the first place.
Now I see what people mean on other forums when they say "this isn't xda." Lol
Just because I don't post much here doesn't mean I don't know how forums work or contribute elsewhere.

Congrats, I guess you used the other 30 seconds to come back and troll. Thanks for proving my points though.
@Xplorer4x4,
With this kind of attitude, you will get no where near help you need in XDA, not only in this sub-forum but XDA in general.
There is no rule forcing you not to post but you MUST find the answer on your own, no one here will help you look for it if you don't even do a little homework yourself.
How many AOKP THREAD in the Development section? Find your own answer. READ.
For your info, trolling like this won't get you far in life either so change your attitude if you can. It will help you.

There is an old saying, you have to give respect to get respect. I came in, asked a simple question to make sure I did not over look something when I SEARCHED the dev forum, Instead I get a response like "Take a look in the Development section " I mentioned this in my op, all be it discreetly. Then I get a smart ass answer like "The KF is not an OG nor is it from the CPT." Perhaps this was intentended to be humorous but text on a screen often has a way of being misinterpreted. Had a "lol" a "" or something of that degree ben included, maybe I would have picked up on the attempt at humor. Since I fail to see the humor, you tell me, who got attitude first? Then asf58967 keeps coming back to the thread to provide more derogative comments. I subscribed to the thread to get updates. What's his excuse?

Like I said, many times before, I asked if I overlooked anything..and like I said before, in order to over look something, I have to have searched or browsed the forum. If you READ you will understand I did my home work and look at the usefulness of the responses minus the later part of asf58967 first post which started with a smart ass answer.

lol trolling? I actually had a reason to keep coming back to the thread. You might want to take the rose colored glasses off and read the thread again. Furthermore, I been a member here for 3 years and have under 80 posts. I would say I don't require much help.
I do development outside of android, so I understand fully the thought process behind search first, ask second. It drive me up a frigin wall, and is part of the reason I abandoned my former projects. You know why I search first, a number of reasons but the most important answer is that searching will often get you an instant answer rather then sitting on your ass waiting what could be hours for some one to reply.

So... Is there a recent AOKP build or not?

Not sure if you are serious or sarcastic, but as far as I can tell...no. Which surprises me. From my understanding of android development, Hascode has all the drivers and such working so it shouldn't be hard to port that to the AOKP base. I can understand if the original dev did not have time to maintain it but I am surprised no one else has picked it up.

Listen man, I am sorry you have been so offended. Yes the OG from CPT was a joke. I live in los Angeles near the CPT. The bottom Line is people here participate ALOT and the spirit of xda is based on finding knowledge before posting a thread - that way all new threads end up useful, as opposed to there being 5000 threads of "how do I root my Kindle" or "is there an AOSP ROM".
