Okay I looked around a little bit, and found some article saying if I was running a stock t Mobile ROM they can track it but if I'm running a stock rooted rOM they probably wouldn't be able to track it. But I'm still not sure.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
hey if you are not rooted then they can track you. But if you are rooted then you can use titanium backup to freeze tethering manager or tethering provisions ithink it is called in ics. Most custom roms have that disabled so you dont have to worry about it. But it also seems that since they came out with the new unlimited 4g that they figured out a way to do it even if you have that tethering manager frozen not sure how but they figured it out. Given some time someone here will figure out how to get around that too. they kick us in the balls we kick them back. Right now if the method above does not work because it seems to work for some people then they catch on or whatever also if you dont have unlimited 4g then it might work with no problem but if it doesnt the only way I have found around it is to use google chrome on your pc then go to the chrome store and get an app called user agent spoofer I think it is called and it allows you to change your user agent so you can use chrome but it will think you are using IE or firfox or iphone or android. So what you do is set it to android then you trick them into thinking that you are using your phones browser but you are really using it o nyour pc. Now unfortunatly this has some drawbacks like if you try to use netflix it will not let you or pandora it wants you to download the app but of corse you cant because it is a pc. so anything with flash really wont work. But if you are in a jam and need the web then it will work.

Well I was hoping there was a free legal way to get it.... like taking a offer or a survey. Kinda like how akinator lite offer akinator pro to people who like their Facebook page or tell a certain amount of people about the app.... free doesn't always mean steal. Remember that

And as far as tb goes give app to zip a try. Its a great app, and there is a free version that will do all you need. And the pro version is less than three dollars

Saving my apps to an sd card works for me. I also tend to modify roms via the android kitchen and while at it, place a few apps I need accessible prior to flashing (root explorer, etc).
Well, I've noticed that they don't restore all the time unless you use the same ROM. But even a stock rim misses the occasional app. Titanium Backup works great for me.

Remove your Google account, and just add it back for auto restore to work again.

Yes it does use data for many different small details. No not much at all. Let's put it this way it takes us about 4 hours and 15 mins to get between home and cedar point when we went this summer and I think 50 MBS or less was used.

I think you are confused. GPS itself does not require data, however Google navigation does. So, while you are driving down the road the phone uses GPS to know where it is, and data to download relevant maps and exit info.

I am sure he is, but he asked about GPS.
In either case, @GrayTheWolf is technically correct, and several posts provide the OP the correct information that they will need.
Bottom line: Answer = No - GPS does not use data, but a navigation app will.

Yea but the GPS alone is worthless... This is kind of a dumb argument... GPS on Facebook still requires data... Using technicalities is going to cause more confusion... You can download the Google navigator map data for a user-selectable region beforehand on WiFi and then run solely off of GPS while on the road.
Boom, no data usage.

Not attempting to argue, just trying to provide the correct answer. The OP didn't specify what they were doing with GPS, it's usually not a great idea to assume. But, with all of these posts, I'm sure the OP has the answer they need, so I'm finished with this thread. If I have caused any confusion, please accept my apologies.

GPS does not use data even for some navigation. Case in point....I have the TOMTOM Navigation app installed on my phone. All maps are downloaded to my phone and I can use this 24/7 without any data being used. So, GPS does not use data. It is completely based on the APP utilizing the GPS

Yes, you are - with certain apps, the maps are pre-downloaded to the device, and saved locally, so while using the app, it is only using the GPS signal currently, because the maps were already downloaded and saved. Yes, I understand that used data to do that, but after its done, it is not constantly using data live.

This is all I could do also.. you can disable most of the bloat.. but it's still there taking up space.
I wonder though.. does disabling really disable everything ? Without extensive testing and monitoring.. one can only wonder..

Ok. I thought you disabled the apps using the Settings>Application Manager route. In the application manager you can see many other apps also which are not listed as your apps but are running in the background and can be disabled. Also, using this method, for each app you can first clear the data and cache before disabling / turning off the app thereby freeing up some more space taken by these apps.
I would love to know this as well, specifically the ones not found in the app drawer

Without root you probably can't freeze apps. You can probably only turn them off
