so is there a way i can read the code from my gate card and make my phone repeat it so i can use it as my gate card??? i have tried looking around but i cant seem to find any info on this
I would like to know this as well

I don't know what a gate card is but if it uses NFC/RFID, you may be able to read its data and write it to another nfc tag (e.g. with NFC tag writer on market)
But don't take my word for it.

yea it uses the same technology but instead of writing it to another nfc tag i wanted to use my phone as a nfc tag you know what i mean?
Something tells me no. I think I read about this in respects to entry door locks.
See if your Gnex can read the card information. Something about encryption or authentication rings a bell.
LTE EX Galaxy Nexus - 4.0.3 AOSP
Asus Transformer - Revolver OC/UV
This is something I've been interested in as well.
I use a badge to "badge in/out" at work that I keep in my wallet. Would be great to just use my phone considering it's already in my hand 90% of the time.

yea i also use a badge for work to open certain doors... i have tried to read the cards but its a no go... maybe it does have something to do with encryption.... i wish there was a way this could be done! it would make life so much easier
They are encrypted. I tried it with several of my hotel keys while traveling.
dam...if only there was a way.... oh well
OK so I've seen a few threads about NFC so thought it might be an idea to correlate all the info into one thread. Lets make this a thread for questions about using NFC or buying tags etc. as well as giving tips we've found or how we've overcome problems. Then I can update this op with the tips or deals we've found!!

I know some tags will work with symbian but not with android. So there might be a compatibility issue as well. Something to do with the hardware maybe?
Using the Sony Xperia Smart Tags and app from the Play Store. Works fine for me. Only thing I could do with is GPS on/off in the options. Going to have a play with it and Tasker to see how they can combine.
Anyone from aus or outside us been able to install google wallet and use it?

To get GPS toggle working you need Tasker AND secure settings. Once you have installed secure settings go to system settings, security and enable it as a device administrator. Then open the app and go to the helper tab and install the helper. Now go into tasker and go to settings, misc tab and tick allow external access. Create a new task (i called mine GPS Toggle) click the plus to add a new task and click on plug ins. Select secure settings then hit configure. In the drop down list you will see gps. choose on, off or toggle and hit the little disc icon in the corner to save. Now you can select this task from nfc task launcher to program gps state to tags!

This thread seems to explain it pretty well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
dont have a clue which uk retailers accept it though, anyone know?
P.S. A fellow Bristolian!!!
EDIT: Ive just tried following the instructions but get the error message. Having done some more research i think google have fixed this workaround so it doesnt work. Looks like we might have to wait for an official google release before we get to play with wallet

That's for the Galaxy Nexus.
The Google Wallet application will not work on a One X. Unless you can fool Google Wallet into thinking you're using one of the Wallet-approved phones (Nexii and those LG phones), you won't be getting anywhere.
I want to buy 10 of those, but i'm not sure which ones are better for my One X.
I think i'll try to write my own NFC Application in the near future. So which ones shall i buy?
These:
http://rapidnfc.com/item/59/white_nfc_tags_ntag203_round_38mm
Or these:
http://rapidnfc.com/item/48/white_nfc_tags_ultralight_c_round_38mm
Is there a limit how many times i can rewrite those tags? Or can i only write the information once on those nfc tags?

As far as i know you can rewrite tags as many times as possible (although i think you can make them read only) Those tags look ok, id check the capacity though as i couldnt see it anywhere. If you want to use them for things other than just tel numbers or links then id go for some 1K tags.
im confused as to why you would use a tag to say turn on/off the gps for example when its just as easy to go to the settings and do it? In most cases its probably quicker and easier than having to carry around tags with you.
for example on my phone now all i have to do is hit a single widget on the home screen (power control app). Whereas if i had a tag i would need to get that out of my pocket as well as my phone and swipe it.

NFC tags are useful if you regularly need to do a set of tasks in a particular situation. You also tend to leave the tags where that situation occurs rather than keeping them in your pocket! For instance when I get in my car I only listen to music from my phone so I want it to start playing. I also want the music app to load, media volume set to maximum and to turn wifi off. By using a tag (which is stuck to the dash) I can make the phone perform all these tasks at once. I can also use another tag to set the phone up in a different way for when I leave the car. Hope that explains it OK

As Dan's said, it's not carrying the tag around, it's having the tag where you need to switch a load of stuff.
For example, my home one is wifi on, bluetooth off, volume max. Car's wifi off, bluetooth on, open the car home app. Work's silent, no wifi, no bluetooth. Just tap the tag when you go past it/get in the car. Job's a good 'un.

ah right,
i was under the impression that you could only use the tags to perform 1 task rather than a "subroutine" of functions
Can I exchange apps through android beam or do i need to use another app or something? how about the wifi direct thing with samsung beam , works android beam on same way?

hi guys..
just found today that if we go in Apps - All Apps - App Info, for some of the Samsung app, we see two buttons at the top, Force Close and Disable.
As I said, the Disable button shows up only on certain Samsung apps, for ex All Share Play has this, but not All Share Cast, etc.
My question now is..what does this disable function do? is it the same as freezing apps from TiBu? why is this only on selective apps?
Also, I disabled the following apps: Allshare Play, ChatOn, Exchange Services, Game Hub, Learning Hub, Readers Hub, Readers Hub Store! I know i dont use any of these ever, but can this in any way affect the normal functioning of the fone? I dont think any of the above are android critical apps..but jst want an opinion.
Thanks

I fyou are are rooted you can delete them permanently with ROMCleaner from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937955.
Make a nandroid backup first in case you might want them back. This is the best way to get rid of bloatware
I've done more or less the same stuff. No problems so far. If something goes wrong, remember what you have disabled. A mail function not working? Enable a disabled mail-related app and try again... Nothing worse than that happened when I disabled lots of stuff on my last phone (SGS2). No issues so far on Note 2.
Disabled apps is similar to saying "not loaded apps" or "inaccessible apps". I never dealt with freezing apps, but after a short look it seems like it can be like this: I think freezing apps is to basically turn of their normal behavior (they can not give notifications or anything like that during frozen status). It can still run but not perform it's normal functions.
The ones that can not be disabled can often be more critical to various other apps on the phone. If the phone is rooted there are usually more possibilities though.
Some built-in apps that has been upgraded may need to have the upgrade uninstalled before being able to disable it.
I have currently these disabled: Allshare Play, Bubbles, ChatOn, Deep sea, Dual clock, Exchange Services, Face Unlock, Favorite Contacts, Gallery (using QuickPic), Game Hub, Learning Hub, Luminus dots, Messaging (using Go SMS), Phase Beam, Photo Wall, Readers Hub, Readers Hub Store, Ripple Wall, S Suggest, S Voice, TalkBack, Windy Weather, Yahoo! (both).
Not all of those actually does any good to disable really... I just get them away from my sight So far no issues.

great..thx for the details..didnt know this disable thing existed in older devices too.
Also, I noticed while disabling most of them, the "Force Close" button was also enabled, but again only for some. Does that somehow suggest that these apps stayed in the memory all/most of the time. Maybe some affect on battery by disabling them..! :highfive:
Sorry to bring up an older thread, but I couldn't find any other relevant thread about bloatware on the Note 2 [maybe my search keywords weren't correct ] But I was curious to what other apps or services are safe for us to disable/remove (without rooting the device)? My note 2 is from AT&T and from what I read and see, it appears to have a lot of bloatware. If anyone could direct me to a list of apps thats safe to remove, I'd be very appreciative. Thanks in advance!
There's a disable "Crap" button in settings.

There's a dedicated thread for apps safe to remove:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910885
When testing what is / isn't safe to remove - rather than deleting something just rename it in Root Explorer... eg if I wanted to delete Flipboard.apk I would change it to Flipboard.apk.bak first. Then if it screws the phone up you just change the name back, reboot and it will be back to normal. If there are no issues, then go back and fully delete it.
So I have a few questions with a few things on this phone. Not sure if it's because I can't find them, or I'm looking for something that isn't there. Hopefully this will help others out that is coming from other brands and are used to how they work.
1) Where can I find uptime and awake time? Without the use of better battery stats.
2) Is there a difference between eco mode and quad core optimization, or are they the same? I read somewhere that they were two different things, but maybe he was misinformed.
3) How can I remove an lg account? I was playing around with different apps and things on the phone. When I went into my accounts and sync, I noticed that there were a couple lg apps under lg accounts (right below the general accounts). News was there twice (two different ones, but I haven't installed any news apps). I can't figure out how to remove them.
4) How does a picture transfer work with nfc? Does it just activate when you put your phone against another with nfc? I know both phones need nfc on to work, but is it that simple?
5) Kind of the same as number 4, but is fileshare an LG thing or do most newer high end devices have it? I assume it's part of wifi direct.
6) I noticed in the task manager that is on the phone, under uninstall, there were a bunch of stock apps. Are these safe to remove? Are any worth keeping? I'm not talking about my apps, but ones that were from lg like tom's diner for example.
I will add the answers to the questions as I can to keep the info easy to find for others that are not informed like me.
Thanks for all the info and help.

Anything listed in there is safe to remove, I've knocked out most of the bloat apps in that list. There are other apps, too, that you can "disable" from the apps settings.
Hey Guys,
Just wonder, I know sort of how they work, but I would like to know, am I able to program one NFC tag to do MULTIPLE tasks, for example, if i have a tag at work, to be able to turn on wifi, turn off bluetooth, and open a program for example, or would I need 3 different tags for each assignment?
Take a reading in this thread:

Best place to get your tags.
I like these tags over the Samsung ones due to the fact they are hard plastic instead of paper backing.
There is, however, one specific task that I have found requires root. I normally only run GPS while in the car, so I set up a task to turn off WiFi, turn on Bluetooth, and turn on GPS. However, NFC Task Launcher requires root to automatically enable the GPS. Once rooted, ensure super user grants NFC Task Launcher root privileges and you should be good to go!
