Hello, I'm a noob with a quick question about undervolting. I am running SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0 EB13/EXT4 with the Twilight Zone kernel. I have the SetCPU.apk installed and I have some profiles and sliders set. I would like to undervolt to save some battery. Is this thing already undervolted? If so, is it only undervolted at 1.2GHz? Is there even a way for me to change anything relating to undervolting?
Thanks for any help.

Undervolting is something that needs to be coded into the kernel by the dev. The best way to save battery would b to use setcpu to a max of 1ghz. An overclocked/undervolted kernel will run at 1.2 ghz while using the same amount of juice that a norma kernel would use at 1ghz

and if they've done it right, which they have, 1Ghz will be using less battery than stock at 1Ghz. in theory the lower you set it the less battery you should use, but you dont directly change the undervolting settings, just the clock speed.
Much obliged.
I think that kernel only has undervolting enabled on 1ghz. So if you're on 1.2ghz it will only be overclocked without the undervolt...I think

I believe its undervolted at 1.2. Reason I say this is because I flashed the genecide kernal and set it at 1.2 ghz which I know is not undervolted on genecide only 1ghz is I believe and I got crappy battery. On the twilight kernal I'm set at 1.2 and getting great battery. That's just my observation so far.

I'm sorry, but you can't say that a great battery is caused simply by an undervolt at 1.2Ghz. The Twilight kernel, from my knowledge, is not undervolted at 1.2Ghz, only at 1.0Ghz. The great battery life you're getting out of the Twilight kernel is because of how it was coded and optimized. My 2 cents.
Twilight kernel is not undervolted on 1.2 ghz. Only 1.0. Read the thread

I was bored just messing around with overclocking with Tegrak. I was at 1350mV for a couple of minutes, it didn't seem to help my overclock stability. It might just be maxxed out though. What's the highest you guys have heard of?

Why do you want HIGHER voltages?
Tegrak limits you to 1400mv I'm sure for a resson so I use it for stabilizing 1.4ghz. Also raising internal voltage to 1150mv helps too.

Cuz I'm a voltage junky.
j/k
You usually need higher voltages to maintain a stable overclock. I'm just wondering how high I can go so I don't destroy my phone, which probably isn't even possible with doing this.
hy guys... i have a question..
is possile to undervolting the kernel of our phone such as galaxy s or s2?
my gs2 with ninphetamine kernel have a good battery life, around 24h with standard battery, 3g always on, and whatsapp sync, and at least 3,5h of display. i have undervolted ad undercloked my phone at 1ghz.
i have done the same thing at my SGW, i have only undercloked the cpu to 1ghz.
in short... i want to improve at max battery life..
Sorry for my bad english
its bad that no1 replies to us abt undervolting cuz we would really benefit from using it to extend our battery

as far as i know, it has already done by arco68, and it has already applied firstly in Bionic V2 ROM (released by cowithgun).
please check it in this link below

After informed by Rio, I would advise u all not to undervolt ur kernel, this can cause damage to GPU.

Is this true dude???
As i explain before in blacknotes hybrid 2 thread, currently i'm using that rom, which has the cow kernel as the rom kernel.
As u always to know too, that the cow kernel has already undervolted,
so my question is "am i possibly damage my gpu as long as i use the cow kernel in my hybrid 2gen..?"
Should i change my kernel??
Really need your suggestion here sir...
Thanks n regards

I do not want to comment on others' work. Just do not undervolt it and everything will be safe. U can always flash another kernel. DXLM3 or XXLM8, they are good in performance.

just a little information/ competition to see which SGS2 is the best , i want to see how low of a voltage you can go. I am using Stability test to test out the voltage, 3 round of classic test at 1.73ghz at 1125mV, and it stable, a little scare to go down more but here some info on my SGS2
running
beastmod 4.2
kernel 2.3.6
Was running originally at 1175 but i undervolt to 1125 and running stable at a stable temp of 41-42..
what's yours
be careful with such drastic undervolting at those frequencies, could result in corrupt nand.

This isn't undrevolting..... this is underclocking.
Undervolting is pretty dangerous with trial and error. The lowest I'll go is -75.
And my frequencies at min 384 and mas 1350 ondemand

no underclocking meaning i would use less ghz than the stock, this is minimizing the voltage on the core.
what your doing is underclock, i put mine fixed on 1.73ghz at 1125mV of voltage

I have never heard of such thing, i'm not doubting you but from over the years, i heard undervolting have positive affect on the CPU by lowering temp and give battery more juice.
where did you get those facts from?

As far as I know, there are no dangers associated with undervolting. I run at those frequencies too at -112.5 and have never had a problem of any sort.
I run about 1ghz. No under volt with this ics kernel but with my old gb kernel I undervilted with faux -100 at 1ghz...ran cool even with games and video, great battery life. And honestly 1ghz is plenty for snappy fast speed

i also run 1ghz, runs super smooth across the board

I don't know if you're familiar with overclocking, but the same type of stability issues can occur. When you're undervolting you can think of your stock speed as an "overclock" and you're just trying to minimize the voltage necessary for stability. If you undervolt too much you can experience freezing, corruption, bad lag, etc. It's all the same process for desktop computers, laptops, and anything else you can play with the voltage.
Personally I'm at -62.5, but after seeing how low people are going I might be a bit more adventurous. Don't use the "Set at Boot" option when you're experimenting.

I did it gradually...and the fact that I was at 1ghz might have also made it possible. Started at -50 since most had said it was safe...then tried 60 then 75 then 90 then maxed at 100...worked beautifully.
I have heard and it is true that phones are made very different. Some exact same models can't oc or UV as high or low as others...I got lucky with a really good model...my old nexus S couldn't oc to 1.4 without freezing while others could.

Right, I meant that there are no risks to undervolting in terms of physical damage to your phone, only stability issues which is fixed with a reboot, assuming you didn't set at boot. Overclocking is a bit different in that the risk overclocking presents in addition to stability issues is the risk of overheating which can permanently damage your phone. Undervolting can compensate for this somewhat by letting the power supplied to the processor and thus reducing the risk of overheat.

I use system tuner, you can also look for Gideons script that is flashable in cwm to undervolt.
Im undervolted to -75mv for quite some time running a script clocked at 1.518min384

Well its really a matter of taste. Overclocking makes the phone a bit snapier and makes large games a bit quicker, but it also eats away at your battery faster. In my opinion overclocking is not worth it based on the small performance boost and larger battery drain. I actually under clock and undervolt to get max battery life with little or no hit to performance.
To over/under clock/volt you need to be rooted and install a kernel that supports the features and is compatible with your type of rom. From there you can use scripts or one of several apps on the market to change the values to your liking.

It makes your CPU run faster and things MAY be smoother for you. Is it worth it? Depends on how concerned for stability you are. Things could be more unstable for a possibly unnoticeable performance gain. This is coming from someone who enabled overclocking in his kernels.
If you think it's still worth it, you'd need to flash an appropriate custom kernel for the ROM you're using and install an app such as nofrills or incredicontrol or setcpu or system tuner (to name a few) to activate overclocking.
