So I followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434 and installed superuser and then rebooted my phone. I tried using titanium backup and it says it doesn't have root access. I tried other apps that needed root access and they all said the same. If I have superuser installed, shouldn't I be rooted. What did I do wrong?
You install busy box?

Yeah I did, it says, "BusyBox Installer was not allowed root access!"
Try using the stickied (sticky'd?) root guide. It has version 3.0.5 of superuser. I had to use this version and then update via the superuser app.
Wipe cache and dalvik and then flash su

I would just Odin the stock ROM and start all over at this point if I was you. You may have trashed up the system at this point trying to do other stuff.

Was cm7 updated? cuz, i've been using it for a while (until last week) and never lost my root.
What if you just install it again, WITH wipe? ive had a ROM working after 2 fresh installs one day.

Haven't run into this issue specifically, but you can try updating your Superuser binary whether it says it's up to date or not.
It's under the Tools menu in the SU app.
OK there was an update. I see one option failed? Is this important? What is it?

Mounting system as read only. Fail is okay.
Hi,
Maybe not a (your) solution but sometimes Superuser really sucks ,like many I have had problems with it so I switched to Super SU,no more issues

XDA:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
OK I tried but that still didn't work. It still says its stopped.

Could be a Rom Manager issue, does it do it any other time? I've never used RM personally so can't confirm.
It does it when I try and backup/restore and reboot in recovery. I Aldo tried restoring and it didn't have the md5 sums matched up.

Having the same issue
I feel ya buddy, I keep having superuser stop/crash while trying to do anything but flash CWM. Really annoying.
Running ICS 4.04 on GNex (Verizon)
ROM Manager hardly (if ever) works. I'm starting to regret having bought the premium version.
I've read a few places that rom manager and cwm don't 'get along' very well, that's if you're using cwm of course

If that is true, it's a damn shame, considering clockworkmod recovery and ROM Manager are both made by the same developer. (Koushik Dutta)

It isn't exactly a problem...
And non-native app will cause this.
Superuser is granting SU access to allow the phone to reboot.
So as soon as it's granted the process is killed...causing it to throw an error.
It isn't a problem.
Problem solved

The problem was that the reboot returned Andy on his back with a red triangle in his servicehatch, no matter what I did..
Your ultimate guide (awesome guide by the way:good gave me a hint that the problem wasn't with superuser, but with my flashed cwm. I manually reflashed cwm, reflashed superuser. I dumped the su.zip file I had used and replaced it with the file in your guide. A bootloop later, all is good and up and running
Now running CM9 and ADW.
Thx alot for your awesome guide, I will recommend it for everyone looking for the basics, like me.
Hey guys I have touch recovery installed and I installed the root.zip packge in recovery but I can't get su persmissions to work.
I have tried adb shell su and I never get prompted. Also I installed RootExplorer to see if maybe su would pop up but nothing.
Any ideas as to why this is not working for me.
I don't want to install a custom ROM. I am trying to debloat my stock rom and create my own rom based off stock. I know there might be stock unbloated roms out there but I want to do that myself. Just a little project.
Thanks
Might try a different root.zip see if it gives root access. Or go to super user app and update binaries.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I did both. When the binary tries to update I get a failed when trying to get root access.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Maybe try cwm non touch...
I'm assuming you're on the ics update... I've seen others have had similar issues. I know you don't want to flash a custom rom. Here is a link to Mr. X's stock rooted roms, bloat included. All he has done is remove ciq. Sorry I can't help more man.

Pls explain what do you mean "no CWM anymore"?
Do you see the stock recovery?
You still could flash CWM or TWRP (another recovery, my favorite I'd say) from ODIN. You need a PC with Windows XP/7/8 and Samsung USB drivers installed to do it. Instructions are available in Q&A.
I initially had cwm installed and my root was working fine.
After I got the 4.3 update via CyanogenMod I updated my phone.
It went well. But I realized that i had lost my root options so whenever I opened super su it said that there's no binary installed and that I'll have to re root again.
So I was like maybe I should just root it again with the method I used first too root my phone ( when it was running on stock ). So I used the same Odin and rooted it. Although it said it was successful the root was still unavailable.
Well I lost interest in that and I got a another update from cm and when I tried to install it I couldnt. My cwm had gone. I tried re installing it with ROM manager but it wouldn't work... I don't know what to do.
