What is the advantage of going through Best Buy as opposed to going direct to carriers?

I have bought the buyback option on my AT&T Note. Currently I'm eligible for over 60% of the full retail value ($749) and I payed $299. Of that $299, I had about $120 of that covered with my previous phone's buyback value. It allows people who get a new phone every 8-12 months (or sooner) to do so with a nominal fee up front.
I could just as easily sell my phone online and get the same cold hard cash but only if my phone is in pristine condition. As it happens, my phones are never in perfect condition, case or otherwise.
For me, my local Best Buy Mobile provides much better service than any carrier store I've ever used.

im a best buy mobile employee an we haven't heard anything on preorders for the note 2. we usually receive an employee news when the phone gets an official date. then we take preorders $50 down an it goes on a gift card that you can use towards the phone or anything you want.

Same here. No news on preorders at this time. The buyback option isn't offered anymore though. You can do tradein plus though which guarantees you $50 for your device on top of its trade in value when you get your next phone after the note 2. Plus you can get the geek sqaud protection for 9.99 a month and it covers all accidental damage except full water submersion. Really nice since there is no deductible and you get unlimited claims. They just send you a type A refurbished replacement with 3 to 5 days.

This is fine and dandy on a new contract, but Best Buy sucks when one wants to buy the phone outright.

Yeah if you buy it for retail you should be able to get the protection on it still. You can also buy the geek squad protection for the two years outright for $169.99 and it works out to be 7 months free. This is nice because lets say you get another phone in a year and a half, you can return your protection and you'll be prorated for what you haven't used yet.

Look into Square Trade at Costco's Wireless Advocates $99/2 years w/ $25 deductible gets you grade A refurb. Doesn't cover loss/theft though. May not have to buy phone through them like their TV warranties?

SquareTrade vs. Ensquared

Now I understand that there have been quite a few threads on insurances companies but I want to know what you guys went for and why.
SquareTrade covers everything except lost and stolen but i have seen exceptional reviews with them
-They require you to buy their insurance within 30days
-$69 for 1 year (Coverage up to $750)
-$99 deductible
Ensquared does cover lost and stolen and I have seen decent reviews with them.
-They require you to buy their insurance within 90days
-Claims all phones are replaced NEW
-$58.99 for 1 year (Coverage up to $1000)
-Max of $75 deductible on any smartphone
I've read much on SquareTrade but i havent found much on Ensquared in terms of reviews. If anyone does have experience with Ensquared that would be nice. Insurance that covers lost and stolen is golden.
Now there are other companies too such as Negri and Asurion. I've read Negri is unreliable with their umbrella insurance company. Asurion is okay but doesnt cover every carrier.
Input would be great. Remember, we all just want to secure our investments
Also interested. I have a coupon for square trade, but ensquared is tempting with those prices.
Att/Asurion is pushing it with that $200 deductable
I wouldn't recommend Ensquared. Here's why.

Had a friend use Ensquared. She had a At&t Samsung Captivate, lost it, and filed a claim. They sent out a brand new international S2 as a replacement (when they were JUST released).
She later found the Captivate, and they told her she can go ahead and keep both phones. Cool.

So have I, on many many electronic devices.... but their rates are just ridiculous now! Here's an email dated 7.7.07 (odd....)

10% of the purchase price? That would have been $15 for me buying this phone.... What about big expenses? Here's one from 11.23.07:

Yes, I did buy my first unlocked, international Windows Mobile phone for $750 back in the day, it was F-ing nuts.... okay, okay, so times change, let's see something newer and more relevant then! On 7.21.10, I bought my girlfriend a warranty for her Captivate, here's the breakdown:
Your Care Plan Summary
Care Plan Price $67.20
Care Plan Term 2 Years
Level of Coverage ADH
Covered Item Phones & PDAs - Samsung
(later on in the email....)
A $50 deductible applies on ADH-related claims for Cell Phones only.

That's on par with today's plans, and they have nearly doubled the purchase price and has doubled the deductible! There's got to be a better solution here, especially when we all baby the crap out of these phones and only have an accident every 5-6 warranties or something....
I haven't had any experience with those two companies, but might I suggest you look into Best Buy? Within the initial 30 days you can add it. Its $9.99 a month, they don't cover lost or stolen, but don't have a deductible. I've used them on my Original Galaxy S II, when the screen broke they shipped it off and then gave me the cash value. I used the in store cash value to get the Skyrocket. Anyway, just an idea!
I think I'm gonna go with ensquared lol

so anyone getting squaretrade on their Gnote?

squaretrade is around $100 with coupon...which is 1/6 of the gnote's price. typically, that ratio for me is about 1/4 the cost of the phone, so it never seemed worth it. my current phone is the evo shift, which i don't think has gorilla glass, and amazingly, doesn't even have a scratch on the screen.
apparently, i'm very careful with my device (even on the second leg of the 2 year contract when i'm less careful with it). so i'm considering whether or not insurance is a sucker's bet or a good investment on this one.
what route did you guys go with?

With S. T. You can always return the unused portion of your warranty. If you buy a 2year warranty and sell the phone after a year and do not choose to include it in the sale then log on and you return the half you haven't used time wise

Squaretrade, I don't understand them. $99 for two year coverage and $50 deductible on the iphone 5 64gb that retails for $799, or $125 for two years coverage and $99 deductible for the $699 note 2. Or the $299 nexus 4.

The more popular the phone = less the deductible because the percentage of people actually breaking their phones is probably less than those that don't. In the end they make more money.
Not doubting you, but then the S3 should be the same price as the iphone.

[Q] Selling Questions

Wife and I might be leaving Sprint due to having bad service at home and work, but not in between. How annoying is that if we're roaming and can't use our data? I got a call from Sprint offering a free out on both lines with no ETF due to data roaming that's occuring while I work. We have an Airave here that we got for free (and have no problem sending back to Sprint).
Anyway, onto the question. What price should we be looking at to sell our phones? Both are in great condition -- hers is white, and mine is black. Hers has an Otterbox Defender on it and mine has a Commuter.
I was thinking about $250 a piece for a total of $500 to help pay for our new phones on another carrier.
Thoughts and comments are appreciated! Thanks
I think your price is too high. $200 if you are lucky but $150-175 per phone is more realistic. This phone has been out over a year and used cases have very little value.

When buying from third party instead of Google

How do warranty issues get handled? All my previous nexus devices have been from the play store. If bought from Walmart or best buy, are warranty issues handled any differently? Usually I called Google support directly for replacements.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Google takes care of their own customers.
Anyone else deals with ASUS directly.. A fairly unpleasant thing from what I've heard.
If you buy from Walmart, however, they sell a 2 year drop and spill warranty for $28 (with purchase) that's eerily similar to Square Trade.

I'll have to check on that damage warranty, reason I'm in the marker for a new one. Have to check on cost of square trade too in order to compare price, because I'm thinking it would be much easier to deal with Google on non damage related warranty issues.

For the first year, for manufacturing defects, yes. After that, IDK.
Bad part, and a personal example: after 3 months mine developed a bad charge cord.
Google wanted me to send everything back, including the perfectly functioning tablet, just to replace the defective cord.
They were incredibly nice, but their policy is incredibly dumb.
Square Trade is $59.99
Just checked yesterday.
ST and WallyWorld guarantee 3 day turnaround.
ASUS makes no claims whatsoever.
Seems square trade does it by 3 yr, and it's 74.

Man I'm glad I turned down Best Buy's extremely overpriced coverage. I used my Discover card and same thing, it extends mfr. warranties by a year on all warranties of 36 months or less.
Damn wish I knew Walmarts plan was so cheap.
A 32gb plus 2 year square trade is $330, at Walmart this would be $300.
But insurance is for suckers anyway right?
