UPDATE: September 21, 2012
Verizon has officially posted support documentation for the Gnex Jelly Bean update. It's Android 4.1.1 and the build is JRO03O. You can see the changelog at http://www.verizonwireless.com/galaxynexussupport.
JRO03O from IMM76K: http://android.clients.google.com/p....signed-mysid-JRO03O-from-IMM76K.60fc8084.zip (Courtesy of XDA member Rican7)
JRO03O from IMM76Q: http://android.clients.google.com/p....signed-mysid-JRO03O-from-IMM76Q.4a91da6c.zip (Courtesy of XDA member El Madhatter)
That would be nice. Not getting my hopes up though. It is Verizon...
Saw this article earlier today and wondered the same thing. The reports from everyone here on XDA seem to indicate that the new radios are doing a lot to improve the signal drop issues. What are the odds that Verizon will kick out the radios as a stand alone update though?
That would be unprecedented. I highly doubt they'd kick out just the radios...but who knows. I guess we'll find out!

Wasn't the "updated" sticker found on all of the device packaged with IMM76Q preloaded? Wonder if killing the universal search had some untoward effects.

Well for one, the IMM76Q update was never released OTA to the general public. It was only pushed to test devices. Some refurb devices have shipped preloaded with it, though. Secondly, and more importantly, that IMM76Q OTA didn't have new radios. It used the same radios as IMM76K.

I understand that there were no new radios with "Q", but couldn't the update have inadvertently created a problem with how the device engages the radios and therefore affected the communications?
Verizon's hands will be full friday with the iphone5 release. It makes sense to do the release and wash their hands of GN/JB/radio testing.

You better believe it is frustrating for VZW when I call CS looking for help with this issue. Sure the credits they offer are nice but I try to keep them on the line as long as possible so that it's kind of expensive for them every time I call. If I'm feeling particularly bored while doing simple tasks at work, I'll ask for a supervisor or get them to confirm something with their network team.

We got both of ours new from Best Buy with IMM76Q updates preloaded. They do still have the same radios as everyone else.

Actually, won't Verizon be busy with the iOS update starting Wednesday? Not sure they will want to roll out the Nexus update during the same week, although I certainly hope I'm wrong.
The radios I got with JRO03O have been great. I get fantastic vzw coverage everywhere I go and haven't had any drop outs. It was rare for me on ICS though.

Droid Life is reporting that Best Buy seems to believe an update with radio fixes is imminent. Considering that we know the current testing version is JRO03O and it has new radios...well...keep an eye on the Verizon support PDF the next few days. JB may finally be on its way!

IMM76Q is coming on ALL warranty devices as far as I know. I haven't seen anyone say that they got something else on a warranty replacement yet. Also, who says that the issue is related to the radios? Something wrong in framework, one of the RIL proprietaries, or even the radio driver in the kernel could easily cause the radio to drop out constantly. There are several things outside of the radio firmware itself that control the function of the cell radios, so the fix may not be in a radio firmware update at all.

I don't think the GN registers on their radar so I don't see how the two would be related.

If you examine the OTA update IMM76Q from IMM76K (that was pushed to test phones), it's pretty clear that all the file changes were made to files that directly affect the device-wide search. That was the true purpose of IMM76Q...to bork the device-wide search because of the patent litigation with Apple. That's probably why new and warranty devices are shipping with it while existing phones are happily running IMM76K. If IMM76Q had anything relating to connectivity, even non-radio firmware-related, you can bet they would have pushed IMM76Q to existing phones with IMM76K as well.

Good old Verizon... Great LTE coverage and cell service, but crappy at releasing updates that we should of had a month ago. I just flashed the new radios and it's been an improvement so far, if that helps anyone.

A month ago... there's no reason Verizon shouldn't have had it in July. They have phones that have had updates delayed for over a year. They're a joke and lost my business as a result.

If an OTA was delayed over a year, I'm sure it was more the OEM than Verizon. What phone was that?
This has been making wonder about the future updates of the Nexus on VZW.
I'm glad I'm rooted but it would be nice for people who aren't to be able to receive these updates accordingly without hassle or delays.

No one at Verizon is going to be able to tell you when it is coming out. It is up to Google to drop the source for the update and push them to the Nexus phones. That being said the VZW Update may be behind the official which is a good reason to root in itself
Nope. Not yet, although I have a theory that they are just gonna give one big ass update in June at Google I/O and its going to be 4.1

There's no need to wait for the official - root your phone, and install foxhound beta 0.1 and imoseyon lean kenrel, your phone will be rock solid, no crashes and will have incredible battery life - in a day you will hardly be able to run out of it with heavy use.

If they do that then I'll be pretty disgusted. The majority of Galaxy Nexus owners are stuck on 4.0.2, where one of the main selling points of the device - NFC - hasn't worked correctly since the phone was released four months ago.

I don't particularly like this thinking. Maybe some of you buy a Nexus to root it, but I buy a Nexus for the exact opposite. I buy a Nexus so that I never have to root or tamper with my device, and so that I will get updates directly from Google carrying the latest bugfixes. Afterall, the phone is advertised as being 'Simple. Beautiful. Beyond smart' as well as being 'pure Google'.

Nope.
No. Officially VZW is on 4.0.2 still. There were some rumors a month ago that VZW would be getting 4.0.5 in early April but nothing ever came of the rumor.
Supposedly our next update (VZW GNexus) is going to be 4.0.5 which should fix the radio issues and improve dock performance so that Samsung can finally release a dock for the VZW GNexus. When all of this will happen? Nobody knows. Probably 2015 at this rate >.>

Dear OP, I finally gave in last month and started to get refurbished devices.
And now, I have absolutely no complaints other than half pink / half green tints on the screen

Not me. As long as they do it, I don't really care when it happens as long as it's right. If I needed instant gratification, I have the information from this place. It took VZW forEVER to update the LTE Xoom to ICS. When they finally did, it was most excellent and opened the door for even better ROMs. My Xoom is still the best tablet out there and will probably remain as such until the Surface is released.
VZW may take forever but it's more often than not worth the wait. The only reason any other phone can even compare to the original Droid is that it was so soon surpassed in the hardware department. It got updates well into its End Of Life cycle and was the best pure Android device for years. Even the N1 while pure Android was an embarrassment in comparison. The Nexus S (the S is for "Sucks") should get updates for as long as humanly possible. Besides having all of the problems I don't like about this phone (no SD card, usual Samsung fail at cell and GPS radios) and little of the phone that sets the VZW apart as a potentially great phone. (I'd rather have this Nexus or any other VZW phone no matter how pathetic than a phone that could work on the other 3 carriers' networks combined because I still wouldn't have a signal in the areas I use it.) Our Nexus also has lots of storage. It's OK that other carriers and phones get thrown a bone every now and then. When I get better radios for this phone, the only reason I will even consider another phone would be if it offered a completely revolutionary user experience.

OK but I would say about 80% of people don't root. I know that is just an estimate but from experience it seems reasonable to me. So, say vzw sold 100,000 inc2s. That would be 80,000 people that might call them if the update changed something or something was broken in it. That's a lot of time for vzw service reps

I am not saying you are wrong, but my original point is that ICS is on the Incredible S, (which I think is the same phone unless someone tells me differently) and it is fine. If it was such an issue, Verizon would never release an update on any phone ever... because something can always go wrong and often does. The one way they truly know there are issues is to release an update, listen to feedback and send out bug fixes. What we "think" we know is that Verizon has had this update, since at least August if not earlier and they are sitting on it. I don't believe one bit that they are worried that this update might break something, Maybe I am a conspiracy theorist, but I think they are holding off hoping more people update to newer phones. Look at the Galaxy Nexus. JellyBean 2 or 3 months ago and Verizon just updated it about a week ago. The Galaxy Nexus is going on a year old and if they can get people to upgrade, they can also get people into this ridiculous share everything plan. I just don't think it has anything to do with them making this update perfect, because that would not follow how they have handled updates up until now...

HTC has always done from my knowledge. Oh, if you do get the OTA update, then I hope you get good coverage. Last time I did an OTA update, it took two and a half hour to download like 180 MB at full bars.
P.S. I believe that Sprint is still CDMA to my knowledge (or I don't know crap.)

OK but I would say about 80% of people don't root. I know that is just an estimate but from experience it seems reasonable to me. So, say vzw sold 100,000 inc2s. That would be 80,000 people that might call them if the update changed something or something was broken in it. That's a lot of time for vzw service reps

agreed, not to mention if bugs arise from the ota or post ota (that werent caught in testing or werent thought to be a big deal) then they have to potentially release more incremental updates that cost more money
i dont know exactly how the contract stuff works, but im assuming verizon paid for ics updates from htc for the tbolt and inc2 (since there are debug builds) but might be able to cut their losses by not actually releasing it...if they feel that it doesnt benefit them by releasing it
the tbolt not getting updated makes sense actually since it was released 3/11, and that puts the 20 month on contract update window for those early adopters within the next month or two
i dont see verizon doing anything to lessen the chances those users upgrade....and a new OS just might do that
inc2 was released about 6 weeks to 2 months later, but same theory applies
not to say the update still *wont* happen...but every week that its not out id say significantly drops the chances of it
now that doesnt get htc off the hook for chinese inc2 kernel source...which by my count is approaching (if not passed) their own 120 day window (which techinically by my interpretation is not legal anyway) for releasing it

I am not saying you are wrong, but my original point is that ICS is on the Incredible S, (which I think is the same phone unless someone tells me differently) and it is fine.

actually htc has been releasing (for the first time i can remember) the ics updates for the msm7x30 phones on htc dev as RUU's rather than ota's as of late
without looking im pretty sure they did this for the desire s, rhyme, and the more recent inc s updates....they seemed to have stopped ota's through carriers for it
i guess their reasoning is something along the lines of "well the general public wont take the upgrade, so less support" and since its released through htc dev anyway i dont think they have to support it...its more like "here it is, have at it"
This will make the various ICS ROMS for DINC2 much better, since now they will be based on our phone instead of something like our phone.

This doesn't mean jack for the Inc2.
LOL, so now today HTC has been responding on their Facebook and saying they are working with Verizon on the ICS update for Thunderbolt, Incredible 2... and the REZOUND! SMH. The Rezound was already updated to ICS a while back, early August if I remember correctly. I really think no one over there knows what the hell they are doing...

Unfortunately, its buggy as hell. If it works for you, then by all means, enjoy it!!!
Just some speculation for when the ota will roll out for the Verizon galaxy nexus . What do you think?

If were taking a real guess, i'll say March 2013.
Yeah I said around February or March as well.
Thinking positively: Verizon "has to" test the update to make sure it's up to their specifications. If they work on it quickly and start immediately perhaps mid-December.
Thinking realistically: They won't test it immediately, or testing will take longer than a month. Feburary or March as stated earlier.
Thinking negatively: Verizon already had a fire sale on the Galaxy Nexus, they want it out of stock and unsupported ASAP. Testing never begins and an OTA never occurs. Verizon twiddles its thumbs wondering why Google no longer wants to work with them.
Probably never... which is why I'm switching to T-Mobile as soon as I'm off contact (if not before, not sure how steep their cancellation fee is)

4.2 is/has been released to AOSP. You can wait on vzw.... but our talented devs will have ROMs based on 4.2 out way sooner than one could speculate about vzw. Custom and stock flavors to your liking soon

The Dev's here I believe had 4.1 on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus about 2 days after it was released.
I just saw a 4.2 AOSP ROM posted on the "other" site. There aren't any linked GApps included though, so there might be a few things missing until a new package is created.

Yes, and the OTA hit the Nexus about 8-10 weeks after some of the first "usable" firmwares started rolling out from developers, especially CM10, which devs jumped on fairly quickly.
My question...
How soon from release will AOSP become usable firmwares that devs can release to the wild?
You would think it would be fast, but I beg to differ. One compound word........ Roadrunner.

It took Verizon approximately 2 months and 14 days to start OTA'ing 4.1. So my guess would be...January 24th.

I loaded up MMuzzy's 4.2 a few hours ago and so far it's running fine.

I toss out Christmas. Maybe the candy cane was Google's forecast of Verizon's approval time frame for 4.2.

February 14th. Running Pure Android and it is very good once I used MMuzzy's GPS fix.
I say January or February.

Yes please to that! I am also a Verizon GNex victim and was thinking the same thing! I'm switching to T-Mobile and getting a Nexus directly from Google from now on...when I can afford it. This Verizon behavior is too much violation for me.
March sounds like a good estimate, it's sad. I contemplated leaving them too.
Instead for now though, I just went and unlocked/rooted/flashed MMuzzy's AOSP rom and it's rock solid. No more waiting.
We will see the update, but since Verizon is sunsetting this phone, I expect it will go the way of the other "Nexus" device Verizon had...the Motorola Xoom. Once a device becomes a non-priority at VZW, basically they'll test the updates whenever they get around to it, thus the updates take longer to test and approve than they used to. Sadly this is what happened to the Xoom. The Wi-Fi version got 4.1.1/JRO03H in July and its final update to 4.1.2/JZO54K in October. The Verizon version is still on 4.0.4/IMM76L and Motorola doesn't expect Google's 4.1.2 OTA to be approved by Verizon until some time in Q1 2013.
That said, the Galaxy Nexus almost certainly sold exponentially more units than the Xoom did, so hopefully that means the Galaxy Nexus won't become quite that much of a bastard child. Time will tell.
With all that in mind, Vegas currently has the over/under on a 4.2.1 OTA at February 1. I'm taking the under. I say mid January... assuming Google can cool their jets on the update schedule. If a 4.2.2 OTA comes out before Verizon approves 4.2.1, our wait counter starts over. That's why the VZW Galaxy Nexus never got 4.1.2/JZO54K or 4.2/JOP40C. They came out too fast. 4.1.2 came out in October, followed by 4.2 in mid November, followed by 4.2.1 two weeks later.

Maybe Verizon nexus owners will see 4.2.2 first on this round. Wouldn't surprise me to much, since the testing team tends to get a lot of subtle tweaks made (we are on JRO03O and not version C like the takju/yakju variants). At worst someone should be leaking some version in the coming weeks.
