At this rate, I think most of their customers are probably rooted already. Better support here than vzw techs can ever provide!
Fact is that vzw wants to make sure their crap doesn't affect HTC's update before releasing it. As such, we all now how much crap they dump on us, so expect to wait a lot longer!

OK but I would say about 80% of people don't root. I know that is just an estimate but from experience it seems reasonable to me. So, say vzw sold 100,000 inc2s. That would be 80,000 people that might call them if the update changed something or something was broken in it. That's a lot of time for vzw service reps

I am not saying you are wrong, but my original point is that ICS is on the Incredible S, (which I think is the same phone unless someone tells me differently) and it is fine. If it was such an issue, Verizon would never release an update on any phone ever... because something can always go wrong and often does. The one way they truly know there are issues is to release an update, listen to feedback and send out bug fixes. What we "think" we know is that Verizon has had this update, since at least August if not earlier and they are sitting on it. I don't believe one bit that they are worried that this update might break something, Maybe I am a conspiracy theorist, but I think they are holding off hoping more people update to newer phones. Look at the Galaxy Nexus. JellyBean 2 or 3 months ago and Verizon just updated it about a week ago. The Galaxy Nexus is going on a year old and if they can get people to upgrade, they can also get people into this ridiculous share everything plan. I just don't think it has anything to do with them making this update perfect, because that would not follow how they have handled updates up until now...

HTC has always done from my knowledge. Oh, if you do get the OTA update, then I hope you get good coverage. Last time I did an OTA update, it took two and a half hour to download like 180 MB at full bars.

agreed, not to mention if bugs arise from the ota or post ota (that werent caught in testing or werent thought to be a big deal) then they have to potentially release more incremental updates that cost more money
i dont know exactly how the contract stuff works, but im assuming verizon paid for ics updates from htc for the tbolt and inc2 (since there are debug builds) but might be able to cut their losses by not actually releasing it...if they feel that it doesnt benefit them by releasing it
the tbolt not getting updated makes sense actually since it was released 3/11, and that puts the 20 month on contract update window for those early adopters within the next month or two
i dont see verizon doing anything to lessen the chances those users upgrade....and a new OS just might do that
inc2 was released about 6 weeks to 2 months later, but same theory applies
not to say the update still *wont* happen...but every week that its not out id say significantly drops the chances of it
now that doesnt get htc off the hook for chinese inc2 kernel source...which by my count is approaching (if not passed) their own 120 day window (which techinically by my interpretation is not legal anyway) for releasing it

actually htc has been releasing (for the first time i can remember) the ics updates for the msm7x30 phones on htc dev as RUU's rather than ota's as of late
without looking im pretty sure they did this for the desire s, rhyme, and the more recent inc s updates....they seemed to have stopped ota's through carriers for it
i guess their reasoning is something along the lines of "well the general public wont take the upgrade, so less support" and since its released through htc dev anyway i dont think they have to support it...its more like "here it is, have at it"
This will make the various ICS ROMS for DINC2 much better, since now they will be based on our phone instead of something like our phone.

This is what T-Mobile estimates. They say ICS is rolling out currently in the UK on GS2 devices and he expects it to roll out within a month on our devices. He said this will include the blurry MMS fix.

Unless your speaking to someone in charge of the updates T-Mobile has no idea when ICS will be deployed for the GS2. The sensation ics has already been out for a while yet they still haven't pushed out and last info we had was that it would be going into testing soon as well as the amaze that was over a month ago. I highly doubt the t989 will see ics soon officially.

For what its worth my friend works at tmobile and they had a meeting about ICS "lol" and said that ota's would be rolling out at the end of April. And that is what the reps are to tell the customers. Maybe we will get a leak he also said that Samsung had released it months ago for our phones. I guess t-mobile is just bloating the crap out of it.

Not to be the "I know a guy" -guy. but "I know a guy" an Sammy Regional Sales Exec. -in the U.S. mind you, they are shooting for mid-month April and expected to have it released for sure by the end of 3rd/4th week (T989 Hercules) at the very latest. I don't care what you believe, just think all you people need something else to do, all ICS rumor guys out there. They are still only a couple weeks behind their scheduled goal they had stated in November, pretty standard. And hit the Q1 goal for a bunch of S2 handsets... Truth also is they didn't even start adjusting their goal of releasing the Galaxy 3 at the end of April until this week, which means that will be out in the next 6 or so weeks too. about a month after we get our update and about a month + before the iphone 5 release. If you think I'm crazy show me your DERP face and we'll talk again in a month so I can send you one back, and sales works on different floor, basically different world from the developers so I've got no info on why the ICS hasn't been finished yet? and carrier reps (T-Mobile) are the last to hear anything for obvious reasons so figure that one out too...duuurrrr

Have fun with nexus.. that is what I'll probably get too.
It took tmo almost a year to get 4.0.3 out the gate. Even if they were planning on 4.1, they would need at least that long to get it out, and by the time that happened, they would need to push 4.1 to SGSIII, and the SGSIV would already be out.

Don't think that statement is entirely accurate. First off, ICS was launched in Mid to Late November so it took 6-7 months to get to our SGS2.
Secondly, it wasn't TMO that took that long to get us the update. It was Samsung. And last I checked, aside from the Nexus, there weren't many phones that had official ICS before us. Especially in the U.S.

Not true in this case. Google does not support Sprint's version of the Nexus since the drivers are proprietary. Sprint will have Google's build to work from, but its up to the carrier and manufacturer to do the update in this case...

More like January or Feb, I'd say or maybe never...at least for the Sprint variant. It isn't in Sprint's interest to push updates unless the other carriers do. Of course Samsung wants to get these updates moving because they want the public to feel they'll be supported if they purchase a Samsung branded device but brand loyalty isn't in Sprints interests unless the brand is Sprint and that of course is usually maintained at the end of a very thin thread as it is.
As for the possibility of receiving the 4.3 update. I'm always excited about OTA updates because updates play a fairly big role in future versions of Android. The more updates there are the more well understood it is what the public wants/needs from future versions because of the broader spectrum of users providing feedback.
For my own personal device...I don't care. I run what I want on my device anyway regardless of whatever Samsung/Sprint/Google push. I don't give a rats ass about having a "pure" Android experience or being the first to get the latest version (no offense to the Nexus fans) either. I want my device dirty and nasty with a big moustache. I don't want be like one of those creeps that hangs around the strip clubs but never pays for a lap dance...I'm in the champaign room and let me tell you there is more going on in there than the song says. Why do you think I'm hanging around here? Trick it, brick it, fix it, trick it and brick it again...that's what it all about.

To the ones complaining who are you going to then? Unless its a Google phone it will be the same across all manufacturers. At least we have a date. Samsung actually announces all devices that will be upgraded at the same time unlike others like HTC who just tells u that their it phone of the moment will be upgraded while the rest get lost in forgotten land. Samsung actually has been the best non Google manufacturer with updates to their Galaxy line..

This, with htc, unless you have the latest and greatest device forget about an update.

I love how in this thread it's bunch of people complaining about how updates don't come fast enough and then when you look at the next thread in this section it's all about getting rid of the updater to stop those "pesky" notifications trying to get you to update... lol
They say December, but that's when they're submitting it to sprint. We'll actually get it Feb or Mar in 2014. Mark my words lol.

Pretty sure that you're missing the point.
The updates that we all are anxious for are system updates that ROM devs can work with, make better ROMs for us all. Definitely worth "complaining" about.
That other thread is about a fault where the phone thinks it needs a software update, but not really, or the update in question is actually not desirable for whatever reason.
Welcome to XDA.

I've been thinking long n hard about that, as an option. I do love my Note2, with the exception of the plastic, it's a badass device. But I don't actually use the pen as much as I thought I would. So taking a long look at the HTC Mega (?), and hoping that it makes it to the US... I allow myself a new phone every year, it being a hobby I indulge myself in, and I always buy outright, no ETF charges...

HTC maxx, not mega
Quick question that I'm thinking about that you should think about. If HTC goes out of business and fails as a company soon, will that mean we won't potentially get future software updates? Or will they all just be rolled out by Verizon as stock software like the Google Play edition HTC One?

This is something you will never have to worry about in the life of this phone.

there is a lot of media talk that HTC is failing. But I don't think they are in any danger of going out of business anytime soon. If anything, they'll get bought out by someone.
As much as I don't think that'll happen, I'm fond of the idea of a straight Google experience on this device without having to buy the GPE edition.

I'm guessing each one of us already has an experience that speaks to this question (which is a pretty good one, by the way). OK, Motorola...Samsung...LG...none of them have failed yet, but here's my version: bought the Droid 3 in October 2011, and two short months later Motorola announced the D4. WHICH (magically) had just the minimum hardware to get the ICS update. Of course the D3 fell under the bar.
So I've suffered the shame and frustration of running Gingerbread on a phone for two years (fwiw, there *have* been ICS and JB ROMs, but all a bit wonky one way or the other, e.g., camera function), while the world of Android has raced by me. To owners like me -- less than 6 months after buying the beast -- all manufacturer support for the device went stone cold.
To be honest, I don't have any nuggets of wisdom to offer here. The two rays of hope if HTC fails are (1) we get root/unlocked bootloader and the devs save us, or (2) we get the 4.3 update as promised and find peace, happiness, and contentment one version short of Kitkat (which, by the way, doesn't look yet like the kind of leap we've seen from one version to the next -- many of the expected improvements are under the hood). I do not think that Google or Verizon will do any work whatsoever on the phone if HTC drops support for it.
