[Boot Animation][CWM] Galaxy Nexus Jellybean Boot Animation - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello everyone!
I've put together a recovery-flashable zip of the Jellybean boot animation from the Galaxy Nexus. I've personally tested this on my Galaxy S III and it works beautifully.

Instructions:
1. Download to your phone's SD card
2. Flash in recovery
3. Reboot from recovery.
4. Behold the glory of the Galaxy Nexus boot animation on your Galaxy S III
For those of you who wish to know, the bootanimation is flashed to /data/local rather than /system/media.
To flash manually with Root Explorer, etc. :
1. Download and extract the CWM flashable boot animation file below
2. In the extracted file, navigate to /data/local and copy the bootanimation.zip file
3. Navigate to the root of your SD card
4. Go to /data/local and paste the file there OR alternatively /system/media, overwriting any old boot animation (please backup your old boot animation if you wish to revert soon). Please note that /data/local is the first place that the OS looks for a boot animation. Any boot animation placed in /data/local will override a boot animation placed in /system/media.
5. Reboot and enjoy
This SHOULD work on any device with a 1280x720 resolution. If you flash this on phone other than a Galaxy S III, you do so at your own risk.
Please note: Image in OP is not actual size due to resizing issues. The actual boot animation will appear slightly smaller. Enjoy!

Updated OP with a gif image for those who are curious

Thanks. It's a nice stock bootanimation, but too minimal for my tastes.
Gotta have more flair! A version of this with extra flairy fire flares would be trippy.
(And thanks for putting it in /data/local instead of overwriting /system/media, which is where I put mine too. Wish more bootani packagers would do this (and specify this).)

Hey no problem we're not on Android version 1 anymore so /data/local seems like the best place to put it . I wish I had enough time and the software to alter this image with some blue flames. That would be amazing. Anyone up for the challenge? lol

Flashed the file from recovery, it put it /data/local. But still get the stock AT&T animation. I think I need to rename the file in /system/bin and create a symlink to it from /data /local.
Well that didn't work, neither did renaming the file in /system/bin and copying over the bootanimation file.

Hmm...good thinking on the symlink. What kernel are you on and this might be a stupid question but did you try removing the Samsung boot first? It's in an odd propriotary format. It's weird. I never thought a boot animation would be so difficult to implement universally on this device. I've never had any issues on other devices. I've been using triune ii and my animations seem to work. I was also on ucalh9 with an insecure kernel and boot animation support I made. I'm scratching my head on this one. I saw your post on the terminal commands on the other thread too. I'm replying here for both. Thanks for taking a look at this. Hopefully we can figure something out here.

Kernel version is 3.0.8-704434-user. I didn't touch the samsung files because I wasn't sure if that would hose my phone. Just renamed the bootanimation file.

Does it matter which version I'm on as far as ICS or JB?

No it should not as long as your kernel supports a custom boot animation. Almost all custom kernels support it. This has worked great for me, but if you're nervous, it flashes to /data/local on your sd card. If there's not a bootanimation.zip there already, it won't overwrite your current boot animation and you should be able to just delete it from /data/local if it doesn't work or you don't like it. So basically you can safely flash this without any risk of damaging anything regardless of ICS or JB. It works for me, but I definitely can't guarantee anything at this point. I've had some difficulties with bootanimations on the S3 for some reason. Let me know if it works out for you.

Interesting! Can you explain why? It could definitely explain why some users are having issues now, but I never had this problem before on other phones. I'm curious as to what's different.

Worked great on CM10 ! Now I can finally have matching boot animations on my Nexus 7 and my GS3! Thanks bro.

That's a good question. I've never ran a rom that putting it in /data/local didn't work. But it's so strange that some ROM's work that way. In my opinion, putting it in /data/local is safer AND you can keep your old bootanimation as a backup in /system/media. I'm definitely curious as to why it's different as well.

This is the boot animation from the ICS Nexus and is by far my most favorite boot animation ever. Works perfectly on GS3. Follow OP instructions for manual install

If it has a kernel that supports boot animations it should yes. But you'll need to manually install that one.

will i have to reflash this boot animation everytime i install a new CM10 nightly?

[Q] Change Bootanimation on JVx (2.3.3)

Hi everybody!
I noticed that flashing bootanimation (.zip file) via recovery or overwrinting them in the system folder (/system/media/video/shutdown for example) is not working on Android 2.3.3 (JVK/JV1).
Is there any other possibility to change the bootanimation??
Thanks in advance for your knowledge!
Marco
Hi
I have the same problem. I think it's because none of the Kernels currently available for Gingerbread have support for custom Boot Animations.
@Rimmer1966: Exactly. There aren't kernel for Gingerbread that have the custom bootanimation support for now ...

Just drop the file in the system/media folder and it works, doesn't matter that there isn't one there to replace

Can't be done I'm afraid, the image is stored within the bootloader, and flashing new bootloaders can permenantly brick your device.
Tks for the answer.
Anyway, I decided yesterday to replace at least the glowing "S" , so I found this 2 part animation (in one file) in one of the HTC Hero G2 threads, which is Android first smashing and then peeing on apple:
First part:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Second part:
I have seen the peeing Android before, but this one got also the smashing Android
If you want to use it, download the the file (see attachment) and push it to the right folder
It's working fine on my JVK , fits like a glove, but when I have time I will modify it a little by redrucing the dimensions of the images and darken them, in order to save battery, specially on those situations when booting takes longer....

It's working fine on with Ramad's Deodexed JVK+CF Root , fits like a glove, but I guess the kernel you are using have to support it; CF Root 3.0 does it, for the rest ask Ramad.
So I placed the bootanimation.zip in system/media and removed the other 2 files (bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg) so I got a funnier/different boot screen and as extra bonus, 2mb more space in /system
When I have time I will modify it a little by reducing the dimensions of the images and darken them, in order to save battery, specially on those situations when booting takes longer....
P.s.- I found some pretty impressive boot screen animations but the files are huge.
The peeing Android is a small file, quite handy...
. .Well, 7 downloads till now and only 1 thanks....how rude
Anyway, I moved on, been testing other animations and for the moment I am using the Nexus/Win7 bootanimation:
the one I have is moving slower than the example above (even nicer) and tested by me....

How to change the shutdown animation I did copy png files to /media/video/shutdown nothing changed
I also deleted bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg now the shutdown animation is gone but the png files not played
DamianGTO's Ginger Kernel also supports bootanimations.
Thank You!

Flashed the .zip and although the boot animation works, I am stuck in an infinite boot loop. In fact the phone works, I can tap the screen and open random programs but I can't actually see what I am doing because the boot animation doesn't 'go away'.
Had to reflash a whole new ROM to get things working again. Shame because it was a nice boot animation, but unfortunately no one in this thread has reported any success with this boot animation one way or the other.

remember this boot animations require your kernel's support or it will not work on any phone.(it only works in bootanimation supporting or compatible kernels.)

Not looked into this yet, but the s3 doesn't take bootanimation.zip files naturally.

[RANDOM BOOT ANIMATION] [1080P] Lots of Boot Animation Downloads & ROM TOOLBOX

[RANDOM BOOT ANIMATION] [1080P] Lots of Boot Animation Downloads & ROM TOOLBOX
This thread will show you how to do a couple things.
a) Install a custom boot animation.
b) Randomize your boot animation so each time you reboot, you get a different boot animation (only available with pro version of the app I use).
I'll be updating the thread every few days with new animations until I get a pretty good library. If I'm really super motivated, I might accept boot animation requests. Otherwise, all you need is the boot animation factory linked at the bottom of this thread.
REQUIREMENTS:
-You need to be rooted.
-You need an unlocked bootloader (only if AT&T or Verizon).
-You need a kernel that supports custom boot animation (Faux, Ktoonsez, any AOSP kernel - I'm currently using SlimBean 5.6).
-You *might need to have an AOSP ROM. I have not tried stock rooted TouchWiz yet.
Okay, here's how you do custom boot animations!!!
1) Install ROM Toolbox Lite (consider upgrading to the pro version).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wyLDEsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
*Note, there are other ways to install boot animations, but those methods are not supported in this thread.
2) Copy the boot animation file(s) to your internal or external SD card. It doesn't matter which. Nor does it matter what folder you put them into.
3) Open ROM Toolbox Lite:
4) Close out of the disclaimer:
5) From the main menu, just swipe your finger to scroll to the right:
6) Now you're at the Interface tab. Click on Boot Animations:
7) You can click on "later" to not upgrade. But I do recommend upgrading. This is a VERY cool app:
8) Click "OK" to the disclaimer:
9) From the "Server" tab, you can download boot animations. But you don't want to, because none of them are 1080x1920 and will look "small" on your screen:
10) Instead, swipe to the right so you an view the "Randomize" tab. Read the info if you like:
11) Now swipe to the left to the "Local" tab. And navigate to the folder where you stored your boot animations that you have downloaded from this thread:
INSTALLING A SINGLE BOOT ANIMATION FROM THE FREE VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) Single-click on any boot animation you see in this folder:
2) Click on "Install".
3) Reboot phone and on the first (OR SECOND) reboot, you should see your boot animation and it should fill the 1080x1920 screen.
INSTALLING RANDOM BOOT ANIMATIONS IF YOU UPGRADED TO THE PRO VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) At the "Randomize" tab, move the sider to the "On" position (top right of screen):
2) Swipe left to the "Local" tab:
3) Single-click a boot animation and select the "Add to randomizer" option (repeat for each boot animation you want):
4) If you're on the free version of ROM Toolbox, you'll be prompted to upgrade. Select either "Unlock boot randomizer" or "ROM Toolbox Pro". The Pro version is more expensive, but it unlocks every option the app has. And there are lots of cool options. Choice is up to you:
5) Since I already paid for the pro version, I installed that:
6) Now click on "open":
7) Go through the steps again and grant Root Permissions when prompted (your Superuser request may be different looking than mine):
8) Ignore the disclaimer:
9) When you finish adding boot animations to the randomizer, your "Randomize" tab will look similar to this. Now you're ready to reboot over and over and over and enjoy all your new boot animations!
Thank you to JaeKar99 for creating or sourcing all the boot animations that I modified to work in 1080x1920 resolution for our Galaxy S4 phones.

If you've changed kernels that's helpful information to put since wicked comes with deviant kernel. Does faux say if it supports custom bootanimations?

I think I mentioned in the OP that you have to reboot a couple times before the new animations start to come up.
Also, you need to make sure that ROM Toolbox has been assigned root authentication privs.
If that still doesn't work, then use ROM Toolbox to manually install ONE boot animation, just to ensure it's functioning properly.
You can do that by going to the randomize tab, then click once on any boot animation in that section, then select "Set as next".
Then reboot and test. For me, it takes two reboots before it takes effect.
This was posted in another thread...

Not working for you?
Finally found the solution in a thread by anbech, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Use the CWM_CustomBootanimation_421_Enable.zip. It's for the S3, but works fine on the S4.
Just because the kernel supports it doesn't mean the system does. This flashes the file "bootanimation" to the /system/bin folder. That file is already there, so I made a copy of the existing one before overwriting it with this (just in case).
I'm not using ROM Toolbox, I just copy my animation (bootanimation.zip) to the /system/media folder since I don't change it often, but it should work.
The link above also has a good tutorial on making boot animations.
By the way, I'm using agat's kernel.

I've been trying to figure out how to change from the wicked boot animation and I believe you're correct. On TouchWiz ROM's your bootanimation must be in that format. I am trying to find the nexus boot animation in that format with no luck...if anyone knows where I can find it that would be helpful.

I know wicked rom has the international boot animations in the qmg format and that worked for me.

[DOWNLOAD] S4 Google Edition Camera, Boot Animation, and Live Wallpaper

Google Edition Boot Animations etc.
Wanted to share > "The new Google boot animation and SunBeam live wallpaper that are currently exclusive to the Google Play Editions of the HTC One and Galaxy S4 have already been pulled and released for our tinkering pleasure. Thanks to the release of the GPL files (similar to factory images) for each phone by JBQ, members of XDA were able to get inside and pull out these two goodies. We’re still awaiting the arrival of the new Camera app, but we’ll take these two for now.
The boot animation is a .zip file that can be flashed through your custom recovery (yes, you need to be rooted). The files are 1080p wide, so it should look good on almost any device.
With the SunBeam wallpaper, you can try to install it as you would any other sideloaded .apk, but it may error out on you. Should you run into an issue, you’ll need to be rooted so that you can push the file to /system/app. Set the permissions to RW-R–R–, reboot, and enjoy.
The camera .apk from the GPe phones was made available, and appears to work on any phone without root. I installed it on my HTC One without issue (pictured above). In fact, I was able to snap a Photo Sphere, Panorama, video, and regular photo like you would hope."

Boot animation: try extracting the file contents and move the bootanimation.zip (from system/media in the zip file) to the /data/local folder on your phone. Rather than flashing
I cant guarantee anything as i'm not currently using any of these files.

The boot animation has been posted in a few more phone threads (verizon s4, nexus 4, etc). I would check to see if they have any fixes or an alternate file. Sorry I can't help any more than that

could always use the international boot animation... the black samsung one... way better than that annoying tmobile one. Theres a flashable zip in the wicked rom thread and theres also one here on one of the other theme threads with just the files.
Also camera confirmed working on my end as well. very nice!

the wicked rom uses a different format for boot animations. they use the .qmg files vs using the bootanimation.zip file. there are tutorials how to change the format. it is a little involved.
The camera won't install on my end. Using PAC rom. Anything special I have to do before I install it?

Camera installed but couldnt take panaroma and 360 pics.

Any way to get the camera to save pics to SD Card instead of the internal?
Can I install the camera on stock non rooted or does it have to be flashed via recovery?
Edit. Nevermind I reread the first post and answered my question

Welcome, here you'll find minimalistic and simple boot animations I made, from AOKP boot animations and some originals I'll make. I will continue to add more as I create them.

*If you want to use one of these boot animations on a phone, I'll be happy to edit a version for it.*
*Something's not working right? Please leave feedback in this thread and I'll see to it.*
*If you like these boot animations please rate and thanks.*
*The boot animations are all high quality, the example images shown here are re-sized(low quality) images.*
*With each boot animation I have included 2 files, a "bootanimation.zip" file and a flashable zip file.*

How to use the flashable zip file.
1. Using a custom recovery installed on your device, like TWRP.
2. Enter recovery mode and go to the "Install" menu. There, navigate to where the flashable zip file is located and flash it!
3. This will automatically put the file on "/system/media". Is fast and safe, once flashed, just reboot the device and enjoy the boot animation!
How to use the "bootanimation.zip" file.
1. Use the root browser/explorer of your preference, make sure that you gave it root permissions by allowing it to Read/Write root and system files.
2. Navigate to "/system/media", there you'll find a "bootanimation.zip" file(some ROMs like Carbon doesn't, it's okay).
3. If that file is there, you can rename it to "bootanimation.bak" or any other name you want, this will ensure it as a back-up, in case you want to use it again later.
4. Now copy the "bootanimation.zip" file you just downloaded to that same directory(/system/media).
5. With some root browsers/explorer you have to set the permissions for the file to "rw-rw-r".
Example using Solid Explorer
6. Once you copied the file and have set the permissions for it, you are all set, just reboot the device and enjoy the boot animation!

Sorry for the delay, had a lot of work this weekend, updated the OP with 2 more AOKP bootanimations, I think they're gonna be the last AOKP bootanimations for now. I'm gonna do a couple of my own for now, I'll upload them when I have the time.
Damn, those last two look great, I liked a lot the black and red one, looks sick.
Guys, I've been really busy, but I'm working on adding more boot animations. I though I could share some of the nav button icons I've colored, for you guys with a ROM that allows you to set custom icons.
@NekroWolfen amazing work my friend! Would love to use one in our IOKP, or better yet if you have time would you be able to make one? Would gladly pay you. Thanks man.

*Update* 2 more boot animations, will add more Kit Kat "inspired" boot animations in the coming days.
