I cannot use my external hd, Or my two thumb drives (4 gb & 16 gb). Booted up with everything already plugged in. It says sda, sda1 created and so forth, but nothing is in the folders when I open them... unless I try my 256 MB thumb drive which works just fine. I just can't figure out what step I'm missing. Wireless mouse and keyboard work good.

android manager is what i use..it works great! u just install it on your computer and on your phone then sync wirelessly...
MyPhoneExplorer is my fav
Thanks very much!
I use Swiftp. Really nice speed, mounts as a FTP server
I used to use Android Manager until I came across snap n go.
it's remarkably good and clever. you just point your device to your file(s) and hit a button and bingo... you got your files!
it can also copy text, urls and copy files from your phone to your pc of course and it's faster than Android Manager.
It's a samsung app made specifically for sgs.

well if you really want to use it that bad, you can go back to stock and see if it works...
I have an OTG cable and the only thing I can use it for is my wireless keyboard. It does not detect any of my thumb drives or external HD.
I'm on Haschode's 3.0 ICS. Was wondering if newer jellybean roms were more usb friendly.
Are you using a powered hub?

Yes, I understand that the Kindle Fire may not be able to handle power consuming USB peripherals. I have a powered USB 2.0 Hub called the "Pluggable"

Well, the extent of my KF USB OTG knowledge is...It needs a powered hub. Even then, it's still hit and miss.
Maybe you start a thread asking what devices others have had success with in regards to OTG on the KF.
i've seen people on youtube that can mount their non powered usb hdds to their note 2's OTG cable
here i am rooted with stock rom, and i can seem to do it...
any suggestions on how to do this while staing on stock rom
thanks

I think only upto 500 gb are allowed.
Try formating it to fat32 if still can't mount then try exfat.

I managed to get a Western Digital 1TB hard drive working. If you're gonna get one make sure it's usb3.0 capable and also by default the stock Rom doesn't recognize an NTFS file system so in order to make your phone read it you'll need to download Paragon+ NTFS app from the Playstore, also your device will need to be rooted. Otherwise, you'll have to reformat your hdd to fat32 or extfat if you do not want to root.

Looking to use my old 5T as an emby server with an external hard drive, it was stock till like 30 min ago, as my research points that the stock kernel prevents them to have USB Storage + charging at the same time. Currently looking for a good ROM + Kernel to be able to this.
To summarize, I need to use a USB C Hub 7 in 1 (I only really need 1 USB A + Charging), this is not working with the phone as stock (not sure if it will be working once I add another ROM + Kernel)
For reference, the hub works with my 7T and Lenovo X1 as intended. It works on the 5T only either charging the phone, or using the storage, not both.
