I use my nexus mounted in my car and always connected to the car charger. Is there a way or app that will automatically switch the phone on off like airplane mode and standby mode when the power to the charger/car is on? I am looking for a way to do this without having to manually power the phone on/off and keeping the battery from going dead while not in use.

Tasker can do that I believe.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
NFC tag! Or tasker context (orientation + USB power), but you might accidentally trigger it when you don't want to.

Anyone know where I can buy a USB cable to make the phone think its in car mode..?
If you dock the phone into a proper car dock it auto clicks it into car mode, if you plug it into the same power source with a normal cable it doesnt do the same thing. So it has to be a pin configuration in the dock/cable...?

You can config multiple tasks.
For example my setup:
-when connected it turns on bluetooth, wifi and gps.
-if it connects to my car stereo via bluetooth, it opens the gps app, and starts to play music
-if it connects to my home wifi, and is at night, it goes to silent mode
-when disconnected from power it turns everything to it previous state
Try to play around with settings, with the right configuration you wont ever need any kind of special dock again.
Hi.
Do you guys thing it would be possible to build some sort of button/switch plugable to the phone via USB or headphones jack so I can turn screen ON/OFF?
I am cycling and using phone as my GPS/mapping device. Phone is in the waterproof mount on my handlebar, and turning screen on while on the move through that case + having gloves on my hands is impossible. I am struggling even at full stop. I tried riding with screen always on but battery died after 1-2 hours, plus I don't need it to be on all the time.
So perfect solution would be some sort of switch mounted close to handlebars, somehow plugged to the phone, allowing me to control screen with it?
Do you think it is possible? Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes! Great. Now, physical button....
How to plug it in? what pins etc?
Not exactly an external switch but have you looked at pgm nexus, from playstore, may give you a slightly more convenient way to lock and also wake screen than using power button.

I have an external power bank for my phone but looking to tweak it of possible.
I am doing some GPS logging and need the phone to stay active for a few days.
The power bank can keep it going but it has a ridiculous auto off feature. Basically after charging the phone the power bank turns off and you need to hit the button to start it again. While possible during my application ... it is not convenient.
Anyone know of a way to turn this feature off or a way to get an app like tasker to auto initiate the charge since it connected via USB?

Ok heres the setup, I have a qi charger mounted behind the car dock I have created. external power is supposed to wake the screen when i turn the ignition key to the on or acc position and turning the key to the off position cuts the power to the qi charger triggering automatit to screen lock and off via screen off and lock app. Heres the problem I am having, if the nexus 7 is left in the dock after power is disconnected when power is reapplied it won't wake the screen till i physically move the tablet away from the charger and put it back on the charger.
How can I fix this so I can leave my device docked and have the screen wake and lock as intended without having to remove it and replace to get the screen to come back on?
solved: tasker + secure settings plugin ftw

Could you please provide the Tasker Profile? (Value for Magnetic filed?)
state>power>power>source=wireless
new task (any name) add action>plugin>Secure Settings>edit configuration>Actions>Wake Device>Save
will wake the device anytime it is placed on a wireless charger
Is there a way to get the LG G 8.3 to power on when a power source is connected? I had this functionality on my Nexus 7 by unlocking bootloader and changing a setting in the BIOS. I was wondering if there was a way to do it on the LG as well.
This tablet sits in my head unit of my truck so getting to a power button isn't very easy. I use Tasker to wake the device from sleep mode but occasionally the tablet battery will die and I need to power it back on. Any help on this method or perhaps something else similar would be appreciated.
