So I just switched to a Gallaxy S3, and gave my rooted phone to my girlfriend. Booted into EL30 from SD card and got the phone activated. Everything works great, except when I call her, it comes up as "voicemail" in the caller ID. Same thing happens when she calls me, she will dial my number and instead of saying my name, it says "voicemail" Did I do something wrong with the activation? I deleted all my accounts off the phone, in the settings, "about phone" it has her number.
Any ideas?
I'm on CM9.

You might need to reflash her phone with NO restore.
Might be a really dumb suggestion (but I have my stupid moments...), but she doesn't have a 'Voicemail' contact with your number programmed into it, does she?

I want to have my voicemail just use a standard greeting listing my phone number. Something like all the other carriers have... "You have reached the voice mailbox of 555-555-5555, at the tone please leave a message..."
I can't find any way to do this from the Evo. The voicemail system doesn't seem to offer this as an option but rather forces you to speak a greeting and name.
I called Sprint and the girl seemed confused and thought I should be able to but was of no help.
Can I set me greeting this way?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Mine has been that way since I joined Sprint, I never added a personal greeting.
Go to your voicemail, choose to administer your voicemail, enter 3, then 5, just keep following the directions to use the standard greetings, basically it will be 3 and then 5 again.
HTH
no luck. still no option for a standard greeting. I got it down to just my recorded name but thats all i can find.

When it ask for your name......Dont speak
It will have callers at the edge of their seats
I had the same problem. It really bugged me. But then I figured it out. Just go back in and delete your vmail recording and it will default to the automated one.
The voicemail that your accessing on your evo is no different than any other voicemail besides the VVM portion. theres an option, your not trying hard enough, read your manual.

Sprint dialed into my voicemail with me and couldn't figure it out either. She suggested that I speak my number to mimic the default greeting... The same thing happened to me when I had the Hero.

Thanks. Deleting everything worked.
There is no option during setup or in the menus and I believe during initial setup the problem is that it doesn't accept no for an answer when asking you to record your name and greeting.
Thanks again.

I believe the problem is on Sprint+Android devices
I believe the problem with the vm greeting has something to do with
Sprints Android habdsets. My Tour would greet callers with my # but my
Hero would force me to record a greeting. My Touch Pro2 greeted callers
With my # but now my EVO insists I record a geeeting.
I've been out of the loop lately and just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Thanks.

yes,
there is the leaked official rom....

Gingerbread + 4g + AOSP = CM7
Awesome, thank you both!
I can't deal with the VM issues on CM7. Otherwise, it is awesome. But the text each time you get a voicemail is ridiculous.
Update to using Google Voice... No more VVM issues with CM7, and works like a charm.

But why? Sounds like there's another option besides switching my phone number.
Besides, I can never get used to the "press 1 to talk prompt." I'm always like, hello? ... press 1 ... hello?

Well for one, you do not have to change your number anymore... Sprint has integrate with GV where your Sprint number is your GV number...
Second, yeah that is getting a bit annoying. I am hoping they fix that or provide a way to turn it off...

You, sir, just blew my mind. I am potentially very happy about this.
Potentially because I apparently do not have the capability yet. I don't have the "enable google voice on your sprint mobile phone" link next to my number.

That is still in the testing phase, you won't be able to unless you sign up for testing (not sure if that is still open) or until they release it.

Dammit I want it now, though.
Why would switching to gv for voice mail change your number? I have gv as my voice mail and I don't need to change my number. Whenever people call my sprint number and I don't pick up it just goes to gv voicemail.
Also the press 1 to talk prompt can be changed in gov setting via computer not android app. If you log in to gv on your computer you can change the settings.

+1 I like the Google Voice MUCH better than Sprint VVM.....and the text translations are free (though not all that accurate at times). Just alot more options than VVM.
im using youmail for visual voice mail on CM7, works like a charm, and i dont get those text messages from 9019 or whatever number it was, i can't remember if i blocked them with my messaging app, but i think just fiddling with some settings makes it go away, after my most recent flash a few days ago the text messages never showed up,
Even if you have a gv number, it's not like you have to change your number. Dialing your sprint number still gets people to your gv voicemail.
Plus, like said above, if you're getting texts, just block them. Most of the GB AOSP ROMs (if not all) have 4g now.
It seems like I'm getting calls from everyone except from my wife.
I am on a rooted/CM7.1.0/Droid Incredible and she is on a stock Incredible. We are both on the same Verizon plan.
When she calls, it rings 3 times for her and then to Voice mail. It never rings on my phone. I have checked
I have and use Google voice for voice mail but she is calling my Verizon number.
The "Send calls directly to voicemail" box wasn't checked. I have deleted her contact in my phone and my contact in her phone and it still goes straight to voice mail. I can call her and other people can call me.
Any ideas?

Dude, you would get so much money on ebay for that phone.
The only thing i could think of is mabey google voice thinks your wifes number is spam. If you go to google.com/voice and hit the gear icon on the top right, select settings and then the calls tab. Uncheck global spam filtering save the change and then see if that works.

Update:
Formatted everything and "upgraded" to Pons CM7.2 Incredible builds (12192011).
All is working great.
Ha ha, you probably got hacked... Lol
Edit:
To clarify things, guys, he stated that he 'only uses google voice for voicemail'...
This means she is calling his Verizon phone number first... Which, he has something called 'conditional call forwarding' setup... So, even if google voice were set to block her, as spam, it would still have to dial his handset first... And actually ring(or be ignored).
To my knowledge, i haven't seen a way inside of Android to block callers...
Which is why i jokingly say, you got haxxed...
I bet if you flashed a clean install of cm7 again, it would work fine
If you long press the end call button while in a call, you are given the option to put that number on a black list. You could have done that without realizing

OOPS
OOPs, I think I "accidently did that to mine just now. It 'll take me months to figure it out. Guys someone needs to post that to FB to get this golden secret out to rest of mankind!
This problem showed up just recently. Nothing has changed, just when I try to dial one specific number from my contacts, it starts the call, does maybe one tone, then ends the call for some reason. I was on mimicry, atm I'm using Andromadus b5 but the problem persists. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there anything special about that number?
Have you tried manually dialing the number to be sure it's not the contact?

It's my GF's number, so you can imagine that it's kind of a serious problem. I tried dialing it manually, yeah. I'll try deleting the contact altogether, but I doubt it'll work.

It's a sign. Dump her!
Just a thought- check to see if you have any special chars in the number, like +1 or (555). Google might automatically format the number so you might have to edit the number to see the raw input.

Nope, even if I just dial it straight from the dialler, it still does this thing. Maybe it's something on the provider's end?

What does it do when you dial from another phone?
Take your sim card and put it in another phone and dial the number. If problem persists then its your account. If it goes away it might be related to your original phone

Did a complete wipe, the problem persists. Put the SIM in my GF's phone without changing anything else. I could dial the number just fine. Guess I gotta figure out what's wrong with my phone.
I recently installed CM10 and have not been able to listen to my voicemails. When I get a notification for a voicemail and try to call, it says "No voicemail number is stored on the sim card". Is there a number I can add to get this up and running? Tried using Google voice but it says there was an error forwarding the number. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Not sure how you could fix it permanently, but for a temporary fix just call your cell number on your phone and listen that way.

Thanks, that worked. Is this a known problem with installing an AOSP ROM? I'm coming from Verizon and I never had this problem.
I've actually had the same exact problem as you did. After days of searching, here's the solution:
Dial *#61# from your phone. AT&T will send you your voice mail number. Copy that down.
From the Dialer, hit Menu and go to Settings>Voicemail>Setup>Voicemail number. Punch in that number, and you're good to go.

I had trouble with this too. Go to the google voice webpage and verify your google number, youll get the same error if you try the mmi code given when you click 'activate'...so just get your google number and then on your phone settings under call forwarding change the forward number(s) to your google number, and keep the +1 in front. you may need to change your google number if this doesnt work, mine worked fine once i did that, but you might not have to. hope this helps.
Ya, right out of the box, setting up google voice didnt work properly. Had to manually set my forwarding numbers as my google voice. I had to do it manually, OH THE HUMANITY. Lol
