[Q] NEED AN ANSWER!! Looking to buy one BUT... - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Yo broskis!! My bud is looking for a good phone. Can I get an unlock code for one of these yet through ATT or can I buy one online, and if so, from where? Looking to use it on straight talk. Let me know ASAP. Sexy azz phone btw.
Grhand82

From the unlock thread for the simply Sony can unlock it if you email them from what I've read. Some got it some didn't best bet is to read that thread understand what you need to say then get the phone try it if you cannot get it return it you have 30 days

The best thing I would suggest is to find a LT28i seeing as it hast the LTE radio and is carrier unlocked. Not cheap but seems to be the only real way. Very few have managed to get the ATT unlocked if at all. May change in the future though.

There is currently no 'free' way of sim unlocking your device if you hang around long enough someone may write a program to do it but you may be waiting a while. Quite a few members have stated the unlock code can be obtained over ebay within 2 hours for around £9 which is a good price. You could also contact your carrier and tell them you want to take your phone abroad and use a different sim card in it while you are away to save costs. Sometimes they will unlock it for free.

got mine unlocked from o2 for free, filled in a form on their site and they emailed me the unlock code
just bought a SIM unlock code from here for £5
instant delivery, works perfectly. awesome
a warning about sim unlock: I got my nexus today from vodafone spain and as expected it was locked. I got an unlock code from ebay and it worked like a charm.
But, I like to play with new phones first, then restore defaults and set everything up the way I want it. The thing is, the galaxy nexus doesn't remember the network unlock code between factory resets, at least mine doesn't (yakju, came with ITL41F).
The codes work, but you may need yours again, so don't throw the number away
any code for three? im waiting the three to give me the code, about 2 weeks now
Hello Mark, is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus an universal phone? Can I use the unlocked version with LTE carriers in the future? I am in US and Verizon is the only LTE carrier I was wondering about using T-Mobile (HSPS technology) or wait for Sprint (my current carrier). I live in USA but I am thinking about moving to Japan so I wonder if I should just wait and maybe I will need to get one in Japan with one of their carriers... Also I love the forums and it is all great, but is there an IRC room for this questions as well?
Thank you in advance,

The GSM version can be purchased unlocked and used on any GSM carrier with their supplied SIM card. The GSM frequencies are listed for the Galaxy Nexus and they cover the majority of GSM international and US domestic carriers.
The LTE version, as far as we've heard, is only for Verizon in the US. Not sure what LTE technologies other carriers in other countries are using.
If you're interested in having an international capable version of the deivce, the GSM version is currently your best option.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
I would also like to purchase such a code, but how ist it with OTA updates? Still avialable?
How would it be if I later root my phone and put on a custom rom? Will it be still unlocked.
or
cant I just put on a custom rom, to sim-unlock the phone and save those costs?
Sorry for the noob questions.
Thanks

Custom Roms cannot sim unlock your phone as it isnt part of the system.
Flashing an OTA update or a custom rom will not affect your phone if you have sim unlocked it with a code.
MArk.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I have contacted my carrier (A1 Austria) and complained about the simlock. To make a long story short, they finally gave me the simunlock pin.
But recently I unlocked the bootlader and the unlock was wiped so I needed to reenter the pin. After I reflashed the original rom (back to stock) the sim was locked again.
And the most strange thing happened today. I just restarted the phone today (as every day) and the sim was locked again. So reentered the pin to unlock.
My question now, can it be that the simumlock pin they have provided me is not correctly working or is this a normal behaviour or a bug?
Br, Avi

Confirmed ion bootloader unlock not allowed.

He is probably relying on a service that will get the unlock code but I'm not aware of any that have unlock codes for the ion. Its exclusive to AT&T so I seriously doubt you can get it unlocked for at least a few months. You can't even buy one unlocked in the US for full price.
Sent from my LT28at using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, more than likely it'll be pretty much a repeat of the x10a only (since a lot of the ground work done) quicker process. We'll all end up w sum variant of the stock sony rom(or any but att) w custom recovery. I was never able to do much of anything w the stock usa roms, come to think of it not even sure att saw GB, don't think so. eb

But my question is, how long before someone does? The bootloader being locked just bums me out. I really want this phone. And the price is making it really possible for me, but I almost feel like I should just wait even longer for something else, or pay the $200 for a GS III.
I really need to get my hands on the Ion. Has anyone gone into a BB or ATT store to get theirs and seen a demo unit?
I have ... the phone looks and feels great. i've read a few reports of signal issues. i think i'm going to wait a few weeks and get two one for me and one for my girl mid july for the price... and ics coming soon... it's a dopeass phone for sure. i loved the way it felt in my hand the screen is gorgeous. the camera was super fast too... idk it was nice.

This was the answer from the ebay seller:
" I can unlock the phone for $30 extra. It is a factory unlock and not through special ROMS which allows you to keep all stock Sony firmware. It is a permanent factory unlock."
I´m not from the US and I´m looking to buy either a Xperia S or Xperia Ion. As the Ion is newer, would like to go for it. I will be in the US by mid july but still looking to find for a good price for a non-contract and unlocked, but it seems that Ion will be higher anyway. If the unlocking would be a easy thing, I would by the no contract phone at Sony store for example, but it seems I will have to go for the Xperia S
I would be leary of anyone who promises they can unlock the BL at this point. Unfortunately there's absolutely no way of knowing for sure if and when this will happen for the att "unlock not allowed model". eb

From that eBay quote, sounds like he must be selling the international version of the ion(lt28i) not the AT&T ion(lt28at). That's the only way I can think of for the unlocked with Sony factory firmware settings.

This guy is advertising that he can unlock the phone for $25

The only thing is when you go to purchase it locked to Canada and Rogers so I can not sure about it.
The ion will be one hell of a device if we can just get passed the issue of unlocking for ATT :/ really wish i had an international one just so i can play with it. i really hate the bloat ware they are shipped with. all in all preformance and hardware wise i see the ion staying alive for a few years. longer than what the x10 did in my opinion.

Ok im new here mainly to try to find answers to my problem. Apparently i bought a stolen S3 that is blacklisted through AT&T. Phone turns on and looks like its brand new except i cant do anything on it (make calls, text, internet) my question is can there be ANY solution to this, or am i just SOL. Its fine if i am, but just figured i could try all options and thats when i stumbled upon this site. Im not asking anyone to do anything for me, just can it be done. Is it "locked" or "blocked" ? If i unlocked it would it work then? Please any help is appreciated

Did AT&T tell you that it's blacklisted, or is that just your assumption? Just trying to make sure it isn't something else like a missing IMEI code.
And if it was stolen, I'd get rid of it if it were me. You can get in a lot of trouble for receiving stolen goods.
At any rate, not here to preach. You can unlock it for free using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34661189#post3466118
That said, if you use a T-Mobile sim card you'll probably only get Edge network, which is slower than dial-up (not really, but it is agonizingly slow). In some areas of the country T-Mobile has rolled out newer networks and you might get H+. Worth a shot at any rate. Good luck. :good:

Chances are, it could be blacklisted on all GSM networks, not just AT&T. All a person would need to do is call up respective customer care, and get it disabled. If he got it for one, I don't think he'd be stupid enough not to get it disabled on other MAJOR networks.
When you got it, didn't you put in your cell sim and check if it was working or not?

If you plan to keep your phone locked to att, I would check out ATT.com/global. They will have all the rates and junk. THey also have a travel guide which tells you with carriers will be compatible with the Note 2, http://www.wireless.att.com/travelg...ls.jsp?CIDL=440&MNC=410&DID1=527&DID2=&STEP=5. That should take you to the Lithuania details. Looks like there is three to select from and links to coverage maps as well.
Otherwise I would do a google search.
Well unlocking it does not really affect my phone in any way after I come back right? Cause I surely dont want to pay all that
You would just insert your att sim, and it should work fine.
You may have to unlock again using the code; I am unsure how it exactly works but you should be fine. Plenty of people do this all the time.

I'd say that after you unlock the phone it's permanently unlocked. If your doing it from the hidden menu!!
And if it's SIM unlocked, then you'll just have to pop a SIM in from over there then your good to go! No extra charges either!
No unlocking it just lets you use it on other carriers, besides the one it's locked to!!!

I am from Lithuania but at the moment staying in US.
Unlock your phone before leaving and after arriving to Lithuania get some cheapish prepaid card (they usually cost $1-3 and comes with some balance in them). You can top up them very easily online. And they don't expire that fast as in US.
Rates are insane, you can get 1GB/month for $2.5 with tax included, local calls and sms are 5 US cents a minute. For international.. just use skype, gonna be cheaper.
I don't know for how long you are coming but even if it's a week I would still advice you getting a prepaid sim card.
You can get 1GB/month + 300/month minutes + 6000/month sms with microSIM card included for around $10
Feel free to PM and I can help you out.
I contacted ATT via chat and first got the crap about the device being under contract and not able to get me a code until the contract was up.
I threw a fist, asked for a sup and the case is in progress (their system was down) so I should get my code soon.

This will depend on how long your contract has been going on. If it is new... no they won't give you the code. Also, while you are away your phone bill still piles up. There's a free unlock method here too in case ATT didn't pull through.
Have a safe trip!

[Q] Unlocking a GS3 with Stock 4.4.2

Hi guys I am new to doing these things on GS3, Is is the same thing on Note 2?
I'm sorry in advanced if there's already a thread that answers this question but I looked and searched around to no avail/
I am just careful as the Note 2 is simpler as I easily find solutions to my problem here in the forum.
I am a lurker and just made an account to ask this one question that no one seemed to ask yet: Is there any way I could unlock a GS3 with 4.4.2?
It's unrooted as for some reason SuperSU isn't working. I am going to try to see what I can do about that.
This was my brother's phone, He then upgraded to 4.4.2 then asked me why his new carrier sim doesn't work and was asking for an unlock code.
TLDR: Upgraded to 4.4.2 and out of options for unlocking network.
TYIA guys.
Youll have to buy an unlock code online. Ive seen reports of some places charging just a few bucks. No other known way right now.
