[Q] CM10 Camera - How to set preferred storage location? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Does anyone know how to get the CM10 Camera app to use the external sd card for the default storage location?
In the stock ROM (for AT&T Samsung GS3), the camera app would create/use the DCIM folder on the external card if there is a card present, otherwise it would create/use the DCIM folder on the internal card. I don't recall if there was a "setting" to specifically set the "preferred" location as internal versus external, but that's what I'm trying to accomplish.
What I'm NOT trying to accomplish:
1) I don't want to move the actual app to either of the sd cards
2) I don't want to completely swap/switch the internal and external sd cards
So far, the only solutions I could find involve one of these two workarounds, which is totally different. Similar to a normal digital camera, you should be able to set the "preferred" storage location as external and it would only default back to internal when the external card is not available.
** I think this is controlled by a setting in the Gallery apk, but I'm not sophisticated enough (yet) to know for sure and how to mod it.

There is no option yet, will likely come at a later time.

The JB Camera app MOD described here works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611
Perhaps this MOD should be rolled into CM10 at some point, if it hasn't been already. I am on CM10 M1 (09/11/2012), so perhaps it is fixed in a nightly build.

Same problem for me, but with another device.
I have CM10 M2 on a Galaxy S I9000.
I can't find the "Storage" option under camera setting. Is not possible to set where to save the photos or videos.
On CM9 stable this option was there!

[Q] paranoid android rom help

hey guys i have the custom rom paranoid android for my device but there seems to b a bug and i want to fix it but idk how some apps cant pick up my exsdcard for example the camera app saves pictures to internal and apollo and google play doesn't search my music and its bugging me there was an update in which i tought it will fix the problem but no its still there how can i fix this help me plzzzzzz. i have use media rescaner and all those apps one that worked for me was ics binder but my phone ran out of batery and when i rebooted the problem started happening again please help me.
I'm having the same problem as can't save camera photos to the external SD card. There is a setting in the camera app that says "store" not sure what it means but it doesn't seem to change anything.
One other thing I would like to confirm is under system settings is the "storage" setting in the prior ICS version you could format the external SD Card. Here format SD Card formats the internal SD Card. Can you format the external SD Card from settings? Not what I was expecting, guess that's why I backed everything up.
I'm running Paranoid 4.1.2 and it is fantastic and fast. I was on ICS previously and had these settings before.
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but either way Paranoid is awesome!
Thanks for your advice.
Save camera pics to external Sd card
I guess tagging onto 2 week old thread with no responses was not the best idea
Looks like saving camera pics to external sd card is not an option. I even downloaded
Camera from ver. 4.2, same thing. Only solution I can make work is use a different camera app
than google's.
Still not sure why 4.1.2 does not have an option to format the external sd card just the internal.
Still like Paranoid, seems very stable.

[Q] JB Roms - No access non-system ringtones and music on SD card

I have flashed several JB Roms on my Dinc. Namely, Albinoman's RC 3, Pons AOKP and Pons CM10. All are great roms. On Albinoman' I can access music and ringtones on the SD card. However, for the other JB roms, I can not access ringtones or music on the SD Card or emmc.
Couple of things:
1) The roms were all installed with clean wipes. Format boot, system, factory reset, etc.
2) The SD card has pictures and documents that are readable by other programs and load no problem,
3) The SD card music files and ringtones appear in my file browser (File Expert), and if i click on I can play each singularly in FileExpert
4) I tried several different music players and they do not read or recognize the music on SD card. They see/report "Zero" songs.. Even FileExpert reports no songs (weird ehh?).
5) In the system/sound settings, the only sounds that appear are system sounds and ringtones.
6) I tried fixing permisions
7) I also tried copying "ringtones" to a folder of the same name on the emmc. Ditto for some music.
8) I do have sound, using the notifications and ringtones that came with the rom. So I got that going for me.
So at this point I ask for some assistance. But as I am not totally soundless, I can survive. Thanks!
Running CM10, I have no idea, as I only use ringtones from the SD card, same for playing music, and I have no issues here.
You don't have a .nomedia file in sdcard or emmc do you?

Try and scan your sd card with an app called SDrescan.

I believe I may swap and reformat SD cards to see if that will help. I am currently using a 32 GB class 4 micro SD

I scanned my card and found multiple .nomedia files in various directories. *All are zero byte files. *Delete them?

These files tell the system to not scan those directories and sub-directories, so if they're on the root of the sdcard or anywhere you want the music to be scanned, then yes.

You beat me to it!
Most likely it was caused due to a buggy version of ROM manager if the OP was using it. I think I'll use some .nomedia files to limit the scanning to just my music and camera/screenshot folders. I've never used them but it may help cut battery usage due to scanning.
Zimeron & Tiny: Thank you! Unfortunately it worked only temporarily. So I suspect something is up with my uSD card, although using various tools nothing was listed wrong. I swapped the 32 GB Class 4 card for a 8 GB card Class 4 card, copied files over, and I am up and running with Ringtones and Music through several reboots, tests and trials. When I get the space (and time) I will copy the content on the 32 GB card, wipe, format and refill. If it still does not work then perhaps there is some uSD size limit with the ROM, or I just need a new 32 GB uSD card. Thanks again for all your time.
For those who have the ".nomedia" file issue:
1) Mount the SD card on a PC (this can be done several ways: USB adapter, or cable rigt to phone with USB drive enabled)
2) Open Explorer on the PC to view the drive (if it does not pop up automatically)
3) In the Explorer search bar type: .nomedia
4) Hit enter then click on: Search in Subfolders
5) Select and delete the .nomedia files found in media folders with music and ringtones
6) Repeat the above for the EMMC.
Enjoy your music!
Cyanlou, try removing sdcard, clearing media storage, and adding the 32gb sdcard.

Didn't do the trick. Now that I know the problem and what to search on, I am finding the issue across devices on JB Roms. Interesting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880163
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969205 (I found non xda links as well, but did not include here)
ROM manager is being pointed to as the source at several sites. I do not NOW use ROM manager, but their may be lingering files. Really? That is almost like a vi... a vir... I can't spit it out and wont. In the forums I see talk of wiping this and that, which brings me back to trying a newly formatted SD card, a totally clean wipe, and Rom install. Or seeing how future nightly's may change the handling of media.
Perhaps this belongs in a development forum as a JB issue?
Tiny:
Your patch here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882918&page=81 to Pons' CM10 Kang totally fixed the issue!! I see all ringtones and media files on the SD card. Checking in Titanium backup prior and after flashing the ROM I found
Prior: System ROM: 260 MB (12.1 MB Free)
After: System ROM: 260 MB (64.4 MB Free)
So the lack of system space may not have enabled seeing all the media files in some way or another? Pons was always saying how tough it was to squeeze JB into the Inc. When he gets back, he should be thrilled with this. I know I am. Thanks again. Issue solved! :good:

[Q] Camera not saving to SD

Even with the option selected in the 4.2.2 stock firmware, the camera app still saves all images to the internal storage. Anyone else having this issue or know of a fix?
I've just made a test - I've opened camera and under settings/data storage chose sd card. I took picture and it is saved to sd card. I have ZL6503, German ones, 4.2.2, and stock firmware.

Thanks. I guess I'll reflash the update, I'm on 6502, I got sick of trying to tinker and loaded AOKP and Free Xperia, NFC is broken now, so I guess back to stock is the fix anyways.

Any fix for "Failed to save to SD card"? [open camera app]

Hello,
A while back I used an app that ran into an issue trying to save to the external SD card, and that app walked me through the steps to make it work, and it works great now and I can save to the external SD card.
But for a different app, I can't figure out how to get it (Open Camera) to save to my external SD memory card. Did my earlier app just have a workaround itself, or is there a fix for allowing any app to save to the external SD memory card? In this Open Camera app I can select the location on the SD memory card for saving pictures, but when I take the picture it says failed to save.
I guess I just wonder if there is something I can change in the phone to make it work, somehow whitelist the Open Camera app, or if it's just up to the particular app to implement its own work-around and by default all apps will fail?
Thanks!
Sd card problem.

It's not a SD card problem. Read the play store description for Open Camera, and it specifically mentions the problem being Google blocking access to external cards because of potential security issues. It looks like rooting is a potential fix to change the permissions. Also, an Android Police article states that with Lollipop, there are new APIs available to developers to give access to external SD cards. The LG G4 native camera app can write to my external card, so I know it's possible. I like the app except for the 5 min video limitation. If Open Camera won't fix it in the app, I bet someone will find a permissions fix after we aquire root. I can't attach the link here, but you can find the Android Police article in the Open Camera description in the Play Store.

It is funny it is blamed on restricted access to SD-Cards when OpenCamera has been the only app in which I have seen problems saving to SD-Cards. I find it ironic that an open source software has not been fixed yet.
I'm thinking I might browse the code and correct the code and see if the developer will accept the changes or not.
I am rooted and cant save or move files from Internal storage to the external SD card using phone. However, if I connect phone via USB to computer, it allows me to as well as using OTG USB. Very frustrating.

You can move files from internal storage to the external SD card with ES File Explorer. It does prompt you to follow a couple of steps to give it permission. I manually move my photos with it.
It's an adroid doing android thing. Only one app that creating or managing the file on SD card can modify that file.
For example, when you set camera photos to be saved on SD card, no other apps can touch that photo, not even photo app since it is created with "Camera" app. Photo app can only View the picture but cannot modify. Only solution is to modify the photo is to hit three dots next to "save" button and select "save copy" then the photo app will create another file that can be modified with the app in the future. You can delete the original photo from then.
Its weird though, you can't modify the original photo but you can delete it.
This was supposed to be fixed on android 5.0 but I guess I misunderstood the change log.

Adoptable Storage Mod

Developer Modaco has posted a MOD for the S7 and Edge to adopt the SD. I thought I would pass this along. Instructions in the link below.
http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
This doesn't seem to be working properly on the US version.
I tried it and while all the commands went through successfully, I do not see an increase in internal storage nor does apps or files transferred end up on the SD card.
The ability to access the SD card from file manager and through a PC has disappeared like it should but the phone does not recognize the SD card as another part of its internal memory nor is it being used.

It worked fine for me. I had to then go to settings storage and select the second internal thing and select merge from the hamburger menu
I tried that as well. I factory reset to see if it was because I had a bunch of apps installed.
I finally got the internal storage to increase. I'm going to fill up my internal storage first to see if i get warnings and insufficient space or if it will start filling the SD card instead.
From what I heard, adoptable storage is supposed to fill the largest capacity memory first (ie: SD Card) and then internal storage. Seems to be doing the opposite.
I've been using this mod for a about a week now, and I love not having to grant storage permissions to the SD card and the ability to delete photos from the Google Photos app (and not having to delete it from the gallery app as well).
The only issues I am seeing are with two camera features
1. Burst shots do not work
2. Photos can not be saved as RAW
These are livable flaws in my opinion. Let's hope Samsung properly enables this feature in the Nougat update.
Do you have to be rooted for this method to work? I just exchanged my Note 7 for the S7 Edge and would like to apply this mod to increase the internal storage.
No, root is not required.

Yes. I updated to the Nouget Beta and it stayed.
Can you test and see if burst shots in the camera works? It didn't for me when I used this mod on MM
