Adoptable Storage Mod - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Themes, Apps, and Mo

Developer Modaco has posted a MOD for the S7 and Edge to adopt the SD. I thought I would pass this along. Instructions in the link below.
http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/

This doesn't seem to be working properly on the US version.
I tried it and while all the commands went through successfully, I do not see an increase in internal storage nor does apps or files transferred end up on the SD card.
The ability to access the SD card from file manager and through a PC has disappeared like it should but the phone does not recognize the SD card as another part of its internal memory nor is it being used.

It worked fine for me. I had to then go to settings storage and select the second internal thing and select merge from the hamburger menu

I tried that as well. I factory reset to see if it was because I had a bunch of apps installed.
I finally got the internal storage to increase. I'm going to fill up my internal storage first to see if i get warnings and insufficient space or if it will start filling the SD card instead.
From what I heard, adoptable storage is supposed to fill the largest capacity memory first (ie: SD Card) and then internal storage. Seems to be doing the opposite.

I've been using this mod for a about a week now, and I love not having to grant storage permissions to the SD card and the ability to delete photos from the Google Photos app (and not having to delete it from the gallery app as well).
The only issues I am seeing are with two camera features
1. Burst shots do not work
2. Photos can not be saved as RAW
These are livable flaws in my opinion. Let's hope Samsung properly enables this feature in the Nougat update.

Do you have to be rooted for this method to work? I just exchanged my Note 7 for the S7 Edge and would like to apply this mod to increase the internal storage.

No, root is not required.

Yes. I updated to the Nouget Beta and it stayed.

Can you test and see if burst shots in the camera works? It didn't for me when I used this mod on MM

Still a no go for burst shots.

Sprint LG G5 android app Storage has no option to move to External_SD (SD card)?

I have the Sprint LG G5 running ZV5 and I'm having a problem where I can't change the Storage settings for any apps (like Snapchat or GoPro app) to use the external SD card. For example, normally in Settings > Apps > GoPro > Storage, I should be able to click on Storage and move the app and it's storage to the external microSD card (app/data/cache). However with this it shows:
"Storage
631.35 MB used in Internal storage"
With no option to move or use the portable/external SD like it normally does on my other phones.
On my older Sprint LG G4 I can move apps this way to use the microSD card so the internal 32GB doesn't get full (both GoPro and Snapchat fill up gigabytes quickly!). Thanks for any help, maybe I'm missing something simple!
PS. Just wanted to clarify that the SD card does work for photos/movies using the default LG camera app, which is fine. So the microSD card is "working". But I want other video/cam apps like Snapchat, GoPro (with it's 4k videos), and my 3DR solo drone app to use the SD card as these apps generate much larger files! This worked normal on the LG G4 and now I'm stumped with the G5. Thanks for any help.
It is there, just reorganized/hidden. That part that tells you how many mb of internal storage used, is actually a menu button. It looks like an item, not a button, but it is actually clickable. Click it and a storage menu opens, under 'Storage Used' click change and select SD card

Hi Pedro, actually that is how I normally would get to it, but it's not working. The screen it takes me to when clicking the Storage used area doesn't have a Move to SD Card option or any reference to where the app is stored (see Screenshots attached). Any idea what's going on here? Are you able to move apps to SD Card? Thanks again!

I just tried around three dozen apps and with one exception, the only ones that didn't allow me to move them were system apps and apps that were pre- installed with the device. The one exception is Spotify, I think that is because that app has this setting built into the app itself. Everything else, I could move.
Edit: In fact, just installed Snapchat to test. Sure enough that feature is there.
Which G5 software version are you on (ZV3, ZV4 or ZV5)? I'm on ZV5.
Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
Wow, thanks! I'm on ZV5. Maybe I need to reformat the microsd card in the phone, I'll try that and see if it works.
EDIT - well, it's still a no go, still the same issue. I took out the card, and on my mac and formatted it as a mac format so the phone would be forced to reformat it. Putting it back in the phone and turning it on, it did pop up with an option to format it. After formatting on the phone there still is no option to Move to SD in the Storage settings (like you have in your screenshot). I'm wondering if I have a dud or if my microSD card is incompatible somehow? Its a fastest I could find Samsung 128gb Pro+. When I get home I'll try a different SD card (I have a Sandisk Extreme Pro 64gb there) and see if that works any better. Thanks for any ideas.
Still a no go
Well the Sandisk Extreme Pro 64gb that worked fine in my other phone (G4) does not work the same in my Sprint LG G5 running the latest update (ZV5). So far I can only save photos/videos to the microSD card, no option to move apps shows up. I did find others that have been experiencing this issue (see this video: "LG G5 cannot save your apps to SD Card" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA9Ix5IVPMI ).
However, with the above reply by @PedroDaGr8 who also has the Sprint LG G5 on ZV5, I have hope that it is possible to move apps to the SD card, and I would like to get to the bottom of this issue of why I can't move any apps to SD! Any ideas of what I can try to further troubleshoot this?
@danboarder I just thought of something. I enabled adoptable storage on my SD card. I have a 128GB SD and I figured it would be good to give the system partition another 32gb. I wonder if this also enabled the move to storage option. I used the command line option that was discovered for the S7 which also works for our phone.
Edit:
I used this procedure here:

Lineage os no option to move apps to SD card

Hi all
I successfully updated to the latest nightly build 8/3/17 how ever I have no ability to move app data to my SD card. My sd card is seen under storage and I have files on it.
I also have twrp 3.0.2.0 but get a kernel is not seandroid enforcing error and can't charge whilst off. I have no loop issue the unit work's OK otherwise.
The lineage is rooted, I would welcome any advice.

Sorry all the model is a SM-P605 model.

Interesting if you boot into trwp can that see your sd card? So under storage the sd card isn't visible at all? Have you tried formatting it?

Yes, I can see it fine under TWRP. I thought maybe it couldn't recognize exFAT, so I formatted it to EXT4. But it's still not showing up at all.

That is weird, do you have another android peripheral that you could prospectively format the card in and try? Alternatively you could wipe and reinstall. I blew away the android internal storage and installed from my SD, just about everything works except the sd storage option. That's an issue storage and app wise so I may go back to marshmallow lineageos if I can't sort it.
Failing that back to stock lollipop should that fail.

I don't have another android device, but I do have a linux machine, (actually, I only run Linux in my home), and I can read and write the card no problem in my desktop machine. I haven't tried it on my HTPC/Plex server yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. On stock Lollipop, I can see the card, but it's read only. Oh, I should have been clearer. I can see the card on the tablet, but it doesn't display anything. It says "contents not found", and I can't enable writing to it for Root Explorer.

That is weird you got me stumped, other than a rebuild I got nothing. Try the card in a mate's phone if possible better than wiping the unit first.
If that doesn't work I got nothing. Truth be said I'm no expert, I try my best.
Hi all
I updated the Lineageos ROM the AOSP I had no hardware issues or software issues on the OS. However please note that if you use this ROM for some reason you will lose the TWRP Recovery.
I installed the AOSP ROM 7.1.1 first, didn't reboot and then installed the Gapps file, upon reboot it stayed on the splashed screen, so I then booted into the standard recovery and wiped/factory reset the unit, all good since and it is running smoothly, just wanted you to let you know that the Lineage ROM isn't the only option.
I also had the options for the SD card and UI System tweak was also there, good luck. If anyone wants assistance I am happy to assist.

Hey mate I found an alternate fix and everything works, look at AOSP rom and let me know if you have any questions.

I have also a problem with the SD card. I have the newest build and the SD card is seen in the settings and also in file manager can read/write, but other apps somehow don't see it, I cannot set the camera to save photo to external storage, also in Google play music I cannot choose to store music to external card, the options are not there. On my Galaxy S5 also with Lineage it works perfectly. Secondly, in the settings I can only format the SD card as portable, not as internal, but that would not bother me if the apps would see the card and I could use it as storage.
Solution for sd card write issue?
Did you ever find a solution? I have the same devices and exactly the same problems.

Have the same problem on my SM-P605 - have had problem since at least the 20170713 nightly build when I started using LineageOS (am currently running 20170830 nightly).
The SD card appears under settings - I can format and eject the SD card, it appears under /mnt/media_rw/76AC-17ED, but
doesn't appear as a SD card in Amaze file manager
doesn't appear as a SD card in ESExplorer (only Internal Storage appears on the home page)
I cannot set the camera location to save photos on it
doesn't appear under /storage (i.e. /storage/76AC-17ED)
It's as if the storage is mounted, but isn't flagged as being a SD card.

I think I found a solution your problem. Well, it worked for me.
Firstly I backed up my SDCARD
Then went to Settings, Storage Settings tabbed on SD card and tab on options [three dotted things].
Formatted my sd card as internal, when I went back to my applications there was an option to move them to external.
[WARNING]One problem is that if you format it as internal it will not show as different storage systems on your pc WILL SHOW AS SHARED STORAGE!!!!
******** I Had So Many Issues I Would Not Recommend It *********
Hope that helps you

This guide worked for me: modaco.com / news / android / heres-how-to-configure-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632
Guide also referenced in this German HowTo: androidpit.de / micro-sd-als-internen-speicher-formatieren
I did the 50:50 format on my 200GB SD card.
Please remove the blanks in the links. Had to put them in because forum software did not allow me to include links.

Help moving apps to sd card

I have recently bought a new Redmi 7 and discovered that I can't move apps to sd card. I have tried the method mentioned on the miui community that formats the sd card as internal storage, but it doesn't work, when I press move to sd card, it gives me an error "Not enough storage" although I am using an empty 16 GB sd card. Is there any solution to my problem?
If I haven't mistaken, both orea and pie doesn't allow moving apps to SD card.

You can force enable adaptive storage on miui 10. The option is there but they hid it for the reason that so it wont cannibalize the sales of their other storage option like 64gb. The only miui i know that have adaptive storage visible is the pocophone. But you can still enable it via adb. Search around xda there's a guide on how

question

With Android 10 (or a 3rd party OS based on it) which I was following this guide for (unable to post link):
install-android-10-on-motorola-moto-g5-lineageos-17-1-how-to-guide
I just wanted to know if it allows you to move apps to external storage, because right now; they install whereever they want, and it seems like most prefer internal storage. I have obviously got an microSD card (a sandisk extreme pro 128GB with 90MB/s write in crystal disk mark). The small internal storage for me is the only issue I have which would be fixed with a way to choose default storage location (there is another issue of it not being clear if the place you want to save a file in on internal or external storage). Also I do have the SD card configured as internal storage.
I just installed an app to record voice calls (automatic call recorder), which has installed on the internal storage. I recorded a message from my three mobile top up but the recording was very difficult to understand even when played back at 70% volume on my PC headphones. I need it because I'm dealing with a company called repairtech.co.uk who told me that the reason they returned my monitor with a cracked screen was because I packed it incorrectly in the provided box (instead of packing material there are some hooks which suspend the monitor in the box with minimal aircushions). Since it was an out of warranty repair, I paid £80 for the evaluation that I needed to fork out for a completely new screen. I only found out about the crack when I overheard a conversation being made on my behalf and checked the box.
I can't do this upgrade right now because I need to have access to my bank account while I try to buy a new GPU which is available from tomorrow.
Edit:
Unlocked bootloader
Fastboot drivers installed on PC
I just tried but could not find a sticky or some such to get these pre-requisites.
Format sd card as internal storage & all data will be stored there
Advantages - more internal storage
Disadvantages - will only work on the device that formatted it as internal. You can't remove it & put it in another device without formatting it. Same for for if you want to change roms potentially.
A fast sd card is also required
Apps can't be "moved" to external storage (from android 5) in the way you are suggesting. Some apps like widgets will even break if you tried
Call recording works - you shouldn't need a 3rd party app on some roms as you can just hit record from the dialer but this is rom dependant.
Try using another dialer that can record or try on lineage mint in the Dev section - you may be using a very old rom if you are following some random guide you found on the net

Is this showing the correct screen for a internally formatted SD card? It does have some apps on it including kindle, but as I said it seems to decide for itself wether it will install on the sd card or not. There is no raid like pool of storage as you can see from the 2nd screenshot.
Will the moto g5 recieve a 3rd party upgrade to Android 11?

You can't "move" apps natively to sd card - it will break many apps
Can't see screenshots as you haven't linked correctly - post full link (put spaces in address if you can't post links)
It is also up to the app where it installs in the Manifest of the app - you may find the apk is installed on internal and the data is on the sdcard
Data will be in the android/data and android/obb folder
When sdcard is formatted as internal you will see the total size of internal storage has increased
If you remove the sdcard you may find some apps will no longer function correctly so you will know its on sdcard
Also you should have selected to transfer data to sdcard when you first format it as internal

Its just apps on the sd card. When I first installed the card, I had just performed a phone reset so there were not an third party apps installed yet.

Nothing wrong with those screenshots
Unfortunately this is just how android works and your device looks to be functioning correctly
If you are rooted you can use other methods to move apps to sdcard eg link2sd (requires sdcard with a second ext4 partition) but the more apps you symlink to sdcard the slower your phone may become. Make sure you link & not forcefully move as some apps like widgets will not function if forcefully moved and not symlinked to sdcard
Also note I haven't used this app in about 10years so no idea if it still functions on latest versions of android as it hasn't been updated in a few years
You will have to Google other root methods

[Method] Merging SD Card with Internal Storage

This post documents a method of enabling Adoptable Storage with adb commands on sony phones where previously similar solutions seem hard to find. Please link similar methods if they exist somewhere else, I am curious to read.
Personal success on SO-02K (NTT DoCoMo XZ1c ) fw version 47.2.B.5.38 Android Pie, 128G A2 card.
The method results in a fraction of the microSD Card being recognised by the system to be able to transfer apps to, and another fraction where the sd card remains external storage.
The Stock Camera will only be able to save to the mentioned external storage partition after this process, and it will fail to save to internal storage.
Some apps may not work when transferred to the sd card and have to stay in onboard storage.
Premise
I carried out the process with a freshly flashed phone, with a minimal amount of apps present in the system. I cannot guarantee same success with an almost-full phone, although in principle it should be the same. If anyone has success on a more full system please let me and others know.
ADB Debugging should be turned on in developer options and authorization of PC given in advance; root or bl unlock not necessary.
SD Card will be WIPED in the process. For your data's safety do backup everything on your phone, both internal memory and external memory before proceeding! Don't yell at me if in the end it'll have to be restored.
Process
adb shell
sm list-disks this should return two integers such as 179,0
sm partition disk:179,0 mixed xx where the 179,0 should be your result in step 2 and xx be the amount of space reserved for /sdcard ; wait until command finishes. For the mixed xx see Miscellaneous#2 for explanation. Please also reply if you know the command to revert the changes made in this step, because I'd expect it be useful in the future and I don't know what it is.
Turn on force allow apps on external in bottom of developer settings if haven't done so.
Open camera app, click on OK until warnings go away, then set save directory in SD Card. Test if it saves successfully, if not, see Miscellaneous#1.
Reboot, then try moving some apps to your sd card! Some core function apps are not movable; that is to be expected.
Miscellaneous
If your camera won't allow you to open up settings (keeps saying cannot save), then you have run into a problem I have never seen before. If you can go into camera settings but the SD Card option is greyed out, that means either you have not reserved enough space in mixed xx or the command may have gone wrong. Or the card may not be in perfect condition for Adoptable Storage. You can unplug the sd card to see if the camera works fine after that, but I haven't tried that. If anyone knows the corresponding command to revert the changes made in Process#3, please let everyone know!
The mixed xx part allows a part of the sd card to remain.... an sd card. xx% of the space in your card will be recognised as external(portable) storage by your phone, and is readable by a PC. This portion will be the place where your future photos and videos are saved in, as the camera will fail saving to internal space. Thus you may want to use the fastest card you have and set xx based on your use patterns. The other part, the (100-xx) % of space is recognised by the phone as internal storage that it can put apps in, although some apps (especially some games) will still save assets in the phone's on board storage no matter where you move the main app.

Thanks for sharing this but in my experience it does not work. I followed the guide and It looks like it worked, however now I don't understand how to move the apps away from the internal memory to exploit the new storage space provided by the SD "internal" memory... each time I try to move an app I get a "not enough memory" error message although there are about 64Gb free, no matter what app I try moving. I also noticed that deleting an app from the phone and then re-installing the app in the phone will finally install it in the SD but several apps I tried didn't work any more once re-installed in the SD storage.

Hi and Merry Christmas!
I do get system warnings saying the phone is full while it isn't; it seems that Android freaks out a little trying to gather disk usage info when the SD card is merged with internal space. However I can move most non-system-apps.
Did you move the app with the (Press&Hold App Icon)->App Info ->Storage->Change function? I found I didn't include this part in the original writing and might have been a source of confusion. Assuming it was done in App Info, could you tell me what apps don't work, and perhaps I can try on my phone. I also wonder how much storage did you allocate to each of the two partitions on the SD card.
Another potential source of error is the card itself, in some cases, the card may have bad blocks that Android doesn't correct for and cause read problems, as my SD card now begins to show. Sometimes I wake up to see my home screen devoid of apps, and I have to reinsert and restart the phone multiple times before the SD card gets recognized by the phone again.

all. I was not able to move any app.

50% of 128Gb, that is 64Gb each.

it doesn't seem the card, since the remaining 64Gb left for external storage, that is where the camera app is saving photos and videos and some other apps save data, still works fine.
Here it is the screenshot of how Android now sees the storage configuration (android settings > storage) after I performed the procedure described above for configuring adoptable storage (writings are in Italian but I think it should be easy to understand).

mine looks the same. I don't know what to suggest. I'll look around on other forums to see if people have the same problem.
This post is re-written from original post in Chinese which in turn is adapted from a lost post on gfan.com.
It also turns out that googling sm partition would give a lot of information most dated back to android 6.
I've been looking around as well, but was able to find only people reporting failures in enabling odoptable storage on Sony devices. However, one difference between your phone and mine is fw version: mine has 47.2.A.11.228 (no brand) - don't know if this can make any real difference.
By the way, I'm wondering whether it could be possibile to install a rarely-used app in the internal memory, then "park" the app in the SD card's external memory by moving its files, then eventually move it back to internal memory only in the case you need opening that app. If it works, it could be a trick for keeping all the apps you want "freezed" in the phone, by taking the usually unused apps in the external memory, then moving one of them in the internal memory only in the rare circumstance you need using it. Then moving it back to the external memory if you think you won't use it any more for a long period. Obviously one could simply uninstall and reinstall those rarely-used apps on occurrence, but that would take more time, consume data traffic and lose the app existing data, so I think that >IF< this kind of trick could be feasible, I'd go for it.

Striking news in the new year-- my sd doesn't work now. Yesterday I checked everything worked, but now no apps installed on my sd card open. using sm list-volumes shows both internal and portable partitions on the SD are mounted, but the apps still refuse to open.
The card looks like it's corrupted, now the two partitions can't even be recognized with my card reader, I guess I'm screwed.
at my asus max m2 .... working, camera, i can move app to sd card and they still works
butttt the only thing is at settings/storage/ information; it shows numbers that dont are correct and a option "to forget sd card " ?!?!?
well i don't know.....
