[UTILITY] HellFire Kindle Nullifier 1.0

this is made by Volk released by me with his permission
The Nullifier.
This uses a special command in combination with a special file to overwrite the internal partitions with 0's, hence "Null" for 0 and "-ifier" for the fact that it does something. It also formats *all* the partitions afterward and *new* checks for, and repairs any errors on them.
Some brief need to knows:
1. This is a little lengthy process so please bear with it. The longest wipe is on /data which will take about 7 minutes. Obviously, make sure you have plenty of battery life before running it or are charging.
2. You *must not* power off your tablet without first installing a new ROM or restoring a nandroid after you use this. See post here:
3. I will provide help, support, etc., but I am not, nor is anyone else involved with this, responsible for any problems you may have in the extremely unlikely event that you do.

Q: Why not just format everything?
A: Because a format isn't intended to erase data, though to a degree does so. This script is intended and will wipe out the data and leave a clean set of partitions for a ROM to be installed to.
Q: (Submitted by Cargohook) Would it be idiotic or fruitless to run this and then restore a nandroid backup? I mean, would that defeat the purpose?
A: I highly doubt it would be a waste of your time. On an educated hunch, when you restore a nandroid all CWM does is format the partitions then load the data from the nandroid to those partitions; back to square 1 with old data being left behind.
Q: Why don't I get a message about formatting /boot?
A: Because it doesn't format /boot. Why? In testing I found that it doesn't need it. It's all a matter of how Android uses boot.img and how it's copied.
Q: Does this wipe Dlavik?
A: Technically. Dalvik is contained within /cache which gets Nullified so, yes. And see the following post regarding not needing to wipe the Dalvik on top of wiping /cache:

yea he needs to get the Fire as well... but yup He's been wanting to do it for a while now actually. Glad its finally here too.

As this is being released by hell should I start on the videos for this as well? Also, I would love this for my Acer iconia too. Has this been tested on twrp and cwm yet?

OK when I get some time later I'll test it with twrp.
Edit: testing with twrp now, I'll post back battery % used and total time spent nullifying when it completes. Dual wipe, so just half it for a single pass.
Edit 2: here's my findings using dual pass on twrp:
Starting battery 81% at 11:31am
Dual wipe end 77% 11:46am
Install hfks
After flash 76% 11:47am
Reboot
75% 11:51am at system start
Using this information you should get an idea of how much battery is minimum required for nullifying and flashing a rom then rebooting into the system. Works perfectly fine with twrp, so twrp and cwm users rejoice, we have nullifire for the KF! Thanks to Volk and hell for releasing this tool.

Sorry to sound like a noob, but I've never used a script through twrp. How do you do it? I usually just run scripts with from toolbox but don't want to try and have it get screwed. Thanks a lot, I know its probably really simple, just wanted some steps to do it.

Its the same as flashing a rom, just pick the nullifier zip instead of a rom. I'm working on a video to show the process in twrp, but for now here goes....
Boot into your recovery ( twrp or cwm doesn't matter), pick install zip from SD card, go to where you have the nullifire.zip, select it, and hit flash. After its done be sure to restore a nandroid or flash a rom, never power down or reboot without one or the other being done first! Also make sure to have 30% or more battery, or be plugged in before starting.

its simple. Download the script. then reboot into twrp or cwm then install the script.. once its done then install your chosen rom... wait for it to be done. fix permissions then reboot and enjoy.. super simple and super cool..

No biggy, I think its a little confusing as its referred to as a script, and generally those are in a zip file, extracted, then run in system, not flashed through recovery.

The concept to its use is to minimize bugs caused by left over data. The wipe process of cwm and twrp is a format, it deletes the arrows pointing to where data is, but the data remains intact. It allows the system to overwrite the data. Nullifier overwrites the data itself with zeros, making it so no leftover data is there to cause problems later, then formats afterwards for rom use. Essentially leaving a blank slate to read and write from without worries of old data creeping in.

Looking to see if one of the awesome devs here can whip something up. On previous devices we seemed to have some flashable wipe scripts that would do a thorough job of cleaning the device before a flash. For instance one could wipe cache, dalvic, data, and system, as well as do some sort of disc alignment in one flashable script. It would mount the proper partitions and ensure that the device was clean for a fresh install. With all the choices between aosp, ics, and jelly bean roms, this may help alleviate some of the questions about what,and how to wipe properly. I for one would love to see a similar file for this device.

+1, I was using a super wipe script on my Galaxy Nexus and it helps streamline and optimize flashes

If people have any questions about how to wipe or what wipes are necessary for there particular flash I believe they should read more and learn about there device inside and out so they won't need to ask such questions and can fix problems themselves, not spoon feed them a do all script that they have no clue what it's doing or afterwards if something goes wrong they will have no clue how they got there or how to fix it. My 2c.
I do see your point of making it easier for power users however, but in reality most fresh install require 3 different wipes all located right next to each other(twrp) and dirty installs even less, I don't really see that 10 seconds it takes to wipe the phone clean to be such an issue, but that's just me. Not trying to argue or flame, just my thoughts.

I don't know about disk alignment but this will do the wiping for you.
I know this is obvious but don't run this from the internal storage. Only do it from external.

No clue on how they got there or how to fix it? It is a wipe script, not a magically fix and load custom stuff on there phone script. Again if you cant help then don't post.

Does this wipe internal storage? Based on your instructions I am assuming so.

That's the problem to use a script to wipe data also wipe your internal sdcard. The only safe way is to use a custom recovery that doesn't wipe /data/media. I can look into it and see if it can be done without wiping data/media but no promises...
The link above just deletes the directories, including data so i wouldn't recommend using that if you want to keep your internal sd contents.

Here is the one we used on the hercules, maybe you can try to make it work on this device.

Yeah it wipes data like a factory reset.

You could have it backup /data/media and restore it after the wipe. Of course the better way would be to just skip it but I am not sure how to do that.

So it wipes data, system, cache, and dalvic. I was only concerned because i thought your original one wiped sdcard.

Yeah it wipes all of those but doesn't wipe /data/media. The original one did wipe all of data so I fixed it to skip media.
I must have missed that post but to be honest I am weary of the disk align thing. I have never done it and have never had a problem so I likely never would use it.

It will as long as your partitions are the same. I can't imagine why they wouldn't be. I know Sprints are. Once I get to the office I will check it out.

Extremely slow Galaxy Nexus (GSM)

I recently rooted my Galaxy Nexus and flashed AOKP. everything was all good and stable, but now the phone will lag really bad and sometimes reboot.
I tried to install a new ROM, but it still does the same thing, even with no apps installed.
It's really bothering me... what could be the problem?

Did you do a clean flash?
factory reset
wipe cache
wipe data
wipe dalvik cahce
format system
flash .zip
fix permissions

This also happened to me, even after a factory reset the phone was still laggy and buggy.
If WiredPirate suggestion doesn't fix it, i recommend a total wipe of the phone through the ToolKit, restoring it like just bought. I know it's kind of a rude fix, but this worked for me

You should do WiredPirate's steps each time you flash a difference ROM or Kernel. If you do that, and educate yourself on each particular ROM/Kernel very well prior to flashing in case there are any specific extra steps you should take, then there is very little risk of messing up your phone.
In the off chance something goes wrong, the Galaxy Nexus has one of the most active development communities. Whatever problem you encounter, someone else has probably already solved it and posted a fix on XDA.
As long as you're intelligent and patient you'll be fine. READ before you flash.

[Q] ROM or phone glitch

I haven't posted enough to be able to ask this question in the development section - I usually find the answers I'm looking for and never feel the need to post - but I started having a lot of problems w/ my phone today.
First off, the ROM I just flashed is the latest Wicked Sensations. Everything was fine for the last 2 days, but this afternoon, the thing started going haywire everytime I would touch the screen. It's like there were multiple screen presses within the same area that I had just touched. When that wasn't happening, it would take a few moments before it would allow any touch input and be ok for a few seconds before going haywire w/ the ghost screen touches. (I know, shotty description.)
Just wondering if it's possibly my phone, the ROM, or if anyone else experienced this. I saw no one else that had in that thread so I'm wondering where I should go from here. Reflash, new ROM, throw the phone against the wall...?

Then wipe EVERYTHING, system, data, internal sdcard (if you have nothing.you.need) and cache
Note reflash your rom and wait a day or two before restoring any apps/data

I will reflash, but I have a question about making a backup - if I make a backup of it as it is now, won't it save whatever may be causing it to glitch like this?
FYI - When I flashed the ROM, I wiped everything through TWRP but don't remember if the option for the internal sdcard was checked, or if there was an option. I didn't save any old apps so I didn't restore anything. Once I had what I wanted, I made a backup within the hour. Would that be a possibility next to reflashing the ROM again (restoring from this backup)?

Hmm, you could try that, add long add it was a full clean flash
And in TWRP when you choose Wipe > Advanced Wipe, it gives you a series of check boxes to choose what to write and if you choose /data, it wipes /data/media too which is the internal storage

Doing as suggested - backup, full wipe and reflashing. Will give it a couple days and see how it goes, then reply back to this thread. (As I sit here wondering if I should just check out another ROM...)

Guess I didn't read enough
Well last night it took all of about 2hrs before the touch sensitivity went haywire again, so just for the h3ll of it I tried another ROM. That time the bad effects were immediate.
I'm now on the backup I made of the stock and rooted ROM which gives me no problems. Not sure what in the updates could be causing the problem but I would hate to hear that I'm up the creek w/out a paddle.
Going to try installing the system updates after I remove root unless there's another suggestion.
Thanks for any advice.

Hmm, could have been a bad download

could have been a bad rom download. try re downloading the rom. maybe transfer it to your phone with a diferent cable. heck, maybe restart your computer first and try doing these steps again. something you might want to try also, after you flash your phone and restart it let it sit 5 minutes or so before touching it as the rom needs to finish building caches doing it's thing,

I don't think it's ROM related b/c when I went to recovery after that latest flash...Well I just happened to be using the latest TWRP and since it's touch operated, well it was a fun time trying to work w/ it while the screen was going haywire. Point is, it did it in recovery, too.
My thoughts are this - try installing system updates like 'normal' and if nothing goes wrong w/ the screen, then try a ROM but skip the part of clearing the system data and only wipe cache and dalvik.
How does that sound?

I was going to throw out hardware issue too. @ the op, does stock still not give you the ghost touch issue still? If it doesn't, then I'm not sure entirely. I'd recommend using a different recovery and checking the md5 of your rom then do a completely clean flash. Maybe your phone just doesn't play nicely with twrp

That's why I was thinking of trying the updates on the stock ROM to see if that was where the problem was. If it is, then I'm insured and should be able to take it in to the Sprint store.
With the original ROM I first tried, I tried 4 different downloads and when I first noticed the problem, that's when I went to the Wicked Sensations ROM. These all included the most recent OTA.
Btw.. I mostly download to my phone via my WiFi. I did try pc to phone in that ROM that I downloaded several times, but it was still the same.

I've only tried TWRP in the last couple days b/c it was suggested in the installation instructions of the particular ROMS. Would like to know why.
I like it, but CWM has never done me wrong.
Flashed the updated stock rom from this thread and kept root w/ the zip that's on that thread. Nothing's happening, of course, which is not only confusing but irritating.
Just downloaded the last ROM I tried last night onto my laptop and will transfer it and try it again after I make a backup of its current state. Will also take the suggestion of letting it sit for several minutes before seeing if the ghost is still following me.

Always check md5 of Rom downloads, that will rule out a bad download

Personally, I would resort to odin and start from a fresh slate. See if you can wipe the system and internal storage from twrp(or cwm), then flash the stock image and go through the whole rooting process (using the toolbox). That way, you can rule out software related issues if it's still a problem. Also, I'd see if it's still there before rooting..that's what I would do...

My bad... You JUST said you basically did that...

I did as I said I was going to do and flashed the stock. Lost my recovery so I tried Odin for the first time and put it back on there and proceeded to make a backup of its current state.
A few hours later I went ahead and flashed the new from I transferred over and I'm happy to say that everything is allll good... so far.
Never had any problems on the updated stock so it doesn't seem to be hardware related but it took a couple days later on one rom which is when I originally posted.

[Q] Having problems upgrading roms

Any time I try to flash a rom or anything I keep getting this message: E:/error opening '/data/lost+found'
I've tried flashing different roms but it hasn't helped.
I'm having this weird problem where when I flash a new rom about 20 random apps are transferred over to the new rom. (like random games and apps)
Also every time I uninstall any app I get "cannot read data/xposed/modules.whitelist"
The app still uninstalls but this just concerns me.
Could anyone help me out? I just want to do a fresh install of liquid smooth.

When I searched around with this issue I did find that and tried to follow those steps but even after trying it a few times I'm still having the same problem.

Wipe everything, data, system, cache and dalvik
Then try reflashing your rom

Ok have you installed any app to sd type of application? It sounds like your internal storage is being read as external and visa versa.
Also i know there's lots of support for twrp but I swear by cwm when it comes to the GS3. I use twrp on my Nexus and that's fine but on the S3 cwm has always worked better in my opinion.
What roms are you trying to flash? They are sprint s3 roms right from this section?

I've done that. That's what the one post suggested.
I just don't understand why I'm still getting apps showing up when I install new roms.

What about wiping storage? I know you don't want to lose anything but it sounds like something in your storage causing this.

I do think part of the internal is being used as external but I thought that's just how it was.
I only have roms, nandroids, and titanium backups on my sd card.
I installed twrp because when I first started it seemed like that was what most people were recommending but it doesn't matter to me. I might switch.

A couple weeks ago, I was switching from a AOSP ROM to a TW ROM and I got the same error. Thinking it was TWRP, I hooked my phone up to my computer and flashed CWM. I then tried to flash the ROM in CWM and it was a no go. I still got the same error. I just decided to transfer all my data from my internal sd to my computer. I used Odin to flash the stock tar file. After that, I used QBKing77's method to root from recovery. Then I flashed my ROM and I got 0 errors. So all I had to do was start fresh haha. It took a bit of time because I was taking many precautions (as should you) Good luck!

Yes just as posted above, but before going the route of Odin back to stock. Copy all your files (important) from internal and external to your computer. Then boot into recovery no need to change now and reformat your internal and external storage, wipe cache and dalvik and fix permissions and reboot. Then download a fresh zip of a rom to flash and test it. If it all works then go through your files and move back what you need. I'm pretty sure you have a bunch of O folders in your internal.
