Hey guys, I have an X Play for Verizon, just got it. Loving it so far but rooting is not was easy our the same anyways as it was on my droid x. I know I can't unlock the bootloader for free anymore bit was wondering if there is any way to still root it. I searched for hours last night and couldn't come up with a concrete answer. Closest I came to one was using flashtool to downgrade, root, then upgrade again via ota. I'm not 100% this will work with the r800x though and don't want to brick my phone. Any help is appreciated. I really want to get rid of all of this crap software verizon put on here. Not to mention use titanium backup again. Thanks!

Very hit out miss with tools downgrading... I tried a couple before the ota to no avail...
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Downgrading and OTA with the uk generic won't work on the r800x, the baseband is different. You would need a 2.3.2 Verizon ftf file.

So is downgrading the r800x possible with flashtool? Or am I taking the risk of bricking my phone by using it?
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
To my knowledge most of the people with the Verizon one ended up unlocking the bootloader. I can't recall seeing anything about people using the flashtool for the r800x

I think it's like 6 bucks to unlock it...or even free
No, it's 20-30

I went ahead and had Alejandrissimo unlock it for me. It only cost 24 usd and the process was painless. Thanks for the help, guys.

Is there a version of the LG Nitro that comes factory unlocked (not software unlocked)? This ebay seller: link claims that the LG Nitro he/she is selling is factory unlocked and "you can always update it and it will never lock up". If so, why is there an AT&T branding on it?
Those software unlocked ones like the rest on ebay, do they lock up again and lose root access when updated (say, to ICS)?
I believe what your seller means is that it is carrier unlocked. That really doesn't add value to the phone the way it would to, say, an iphone, though. I unlocked my nitro for less than $3.

hey where did u unlock your nitro for $3. even i need to unlock my nitro which is getting shipped to me. pls help
I found an unlock on ebay for $3. Worked great, had my phone unlocked in minutes.

I used this guy from Ebay:
Unlock code
Less then 3 bucks and within an hour had an unlock code! Worked like a charm! =)
Just wanted to mention that regardless of your unlocking experience, once you flash your baseband/system partitions, there is a high probability it will lock it again. Beware!! keep your unlock code handy if you do.
I didn't have a problem when I restored my phone. Obviously, I had to flash my baseband when that happened, so it appears to persist. I'd keep my unlock code around regardless, though lol

I'm guessing it's safe to say that this should not be considered as Unlocking the Bootloader, correct? I hope people don't confuse this with Unlocking the bootloader.
No need, our bootloader is not locked

Wait, really?! I've been trying to figure out how we came to dat conclusion though?
Our bootloader is 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt unlocked. This was proven by Bytecode and his success with booting to an unsigned recovery partition AKA his CWM port.
In the hopes that we may as a whole have a louder voice that AT&T will hear... I have created an online petition for this. Please show your support and sign it. Tell your friends, your family, etc. This has come about by way of suggestion from FXP.
Please note, that if you decide to sign the petition, this is a LEGIT cause, and to please sign as yourself, not your online alias.
Here is the link for the online petition:

Doubt AT&T will listen to its customers but I signed it anyways. AT&T doesn't care as its all about the dollar.
These don't generally work.. Just saying

While it may not work, it's still worth a shot I think. the answer is always no, unless you ask... So why not? Got nothing to lose at this point. LOL.
And yes, I agree...It's all about the dollar, unfortunately. Thank you all for signing though. Maybe we will get lucky and it "might" actually happen?
A lot of things in history wouldn't have happened but someone tried anyways.

I agree, it can't hurt.
We ended up with over 1500 for the petition to have Sony release the sources for my x10. Sony did release the GB sources, but it was after ICS was released for 2011 phones. And GB drivers didn't help much for ICS

Seeing as the Boot lock really looks to be in full control from Sony I would suggest trying to get them to hear you. At some point there agreement with ATT will end and this device will be dropped as the new ones come in very soon. So maybe just maybe Sony will listen and help us out.
^if u read through some of the other threads about sim unlock and what not. an ATT rep specifically told someone it was only the first 90 days... their exclusivity clause whatever.... in other words we should be allowed both sim unlock and bootloader unlock via ATT now. granted i see your point about Sony being in control of it. but, that doesn't make sense when they've got the SXS unlocked and getting AOSP love.... >_<
signed and posted on xda facebook page
I signed although I feel it will do nothing it will be worth the effort. I believe this is a control set by att as sony allows the bootloader unlocked on lt28i/lt28h.

I disagree with this... i have been trying to get the unlock code from att for my ion and they do not have it or have a release date for. i have been with them ten years and never asked for a unlock for any of my devices. i left for japan three days ago in hopes that i could take my ion with me and use it on docomo network so i didnt have to buy another phone while here. and att told me they would have my issue resolved long after i arrived, so thanks to att i had to buy another phone upon arrival.
i would have had a better chance at unlocking an iphone 5 before i left, than unlocking my ion
Plus one for me. Rogers canada locks there boot loaders as well.

I signed but with this error message "•There was an error submitting your form. Please try again later."
I did it twice still can't get it done
Hi guys,
Not sure if this even makes sense or is even remotely possible.
But I'm just wondering whether creating some extra incentive for the devs to try and crack the bootloader of permanently locked devices makes sense?
I bought a Bell locked device and I sure as heck miss Cyanogen Mod!
I'd probably be down to contribute $25.
What do you guys think?
has anyone figured out which devices come with the locked bootloader?
is it just carrier specific devices?

Aight good stuff.
Hoping some other people will chime in too so I can move this to an official thread in the General forum.
I bought mine on newegg (506) and was lucky enough to get an unlockable bootloader. still on sale for around 600 with coupon code good luck.
I ordered mine from newegg too. I hope they're all boot loader unlocked.
Yeah it's pretty disappointing that the bootloader ifs unlockable.

Anyone managed to unlock with code?

see HERE done mine permenant unlock
I have tried about 10 different sites trying to get an unlock code for mine locked to vodafone ireland, none of them are able to yet due to not having the code on the carrier servers, all the websites have refunded my money straight away when they were unable to do it except for www.htcunlockingservice.com, they are trying their best to hold onto my money, saying that my IMEI is currently locked into their servers trying to get the code and if i try to cancel it will completely mess my IMEI making it impossible for anyone to unlock it... now i think they are lying out their asses but I don't want to risk it. can anyone confirm that this is true. I placed my order with them on the 13th of April. I would encourage everyone to stay away from them!
Hey,
This may be helpful for you as I had the same problem. A week ago I bought my m8 from EE UK (so basically the same thing as t-mobile) and unlocked it for somewhere around £8 from this site: http://sim-unlock.net/ . This should do in your case as well, try it .
Cheers.
Edit: just checked, it's €9.99 - the newest HTC database from 2013.

No, I'm with Vodafone Ireland, I rang them and they said they would do it for €200! f that!
I used cellunlocker.net and I got the unlock code in 45 minutes. It cost $20.
