Lack of support? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So here's my question... My girl has an epic 4G touch with Sprint... I have a galaxy note rooted with liquid smooth on straight Talk. Now as far as I'm concerned the liquid smooth jelly bean rom is dam near perfect.. Everything works and is just what I need. However when I go to the epic 4G touch forums and try to get her a nice jelly bean rom they are light years behind... There still claiming gb roms are king.. And any jelly roms are still in alpha with a lot missing...
Epic 4G has been out a while and has a lot of support but how is it that the note has a fully loaded custom jb rom that is smooth and fast as silk but the epic roms are so far behind

You should make one.

Ummm no I shouldn't.. I'm not taking anything away from the devs I'm just wondering if I'm missing something or if the support for the device has jumped ship

JB roms run pretty damn good for not having source. I'm using PA2.1 and everything is working just fine. Since its using sbrissen and phantomphreaks vendor trees, by extension any rom based on those same vendor trees(aosp, cm10, aokp, etc) should all be just as good. Some people have issues with ICS and JB but a lot don't. You'll need to read thru the threads and pick one you want to try and see for yourself, just make sure you follow the install instructions from the OP or you could perma-brick the device.

the cm9 rom rocks imho. its actively developed as well. cm10 is another option but cm9 is more stable for now.

I have a few questions about roms?

So, I've been looking to find a stable ICS mod. I know cm has 9 out, and yes I am new to rooting/flashin, etc, I was just wondering if cm9 is available for the T989. I noticed its for all the other galaxy S2 phones. But when I search T989 or Hercules it comes up with all the other galaxy s2's. I don't want to start something, and Brick my phone.
If no CM9 yet, what are other good ICS roms if any? Or roms in general? for the t989.

There are no ICS ROMs for our phone yet. xboarder56 is working on it for the Skyrocket (same as our phone), but it's fairly alpha as it is.

yeah the other galaxy's..ies? run the exynos processor so they're almost interchangeable in terms or drivers and stuff.
ours and the skyrocket are the snapdragons.... so expect ours to be out... summer im thinking?
The real reason the others have ICS roms is because Samsung has leaked pretty consistently to them. Its a lot easier to make cake if all you have to do is frost it.
Roms?
Where can I get a compatible cm7 Rom for the t989? I tried flashing cm7 and it was giving me a verification error?

[Q] Pure Google ICS without Touchwiz?

I know there is one thread labeled it is the only official ICS thread, but I have a slightly different question...
My vibrant broke, and there was literally a ton of ICS roms for Vibrant... now with the Galaxy S2 I see plenty of ICS roms, but they all seem to have some kind of touchwiz basis... I hate touchwiz with a passion. I love the way google sets the phone up like on the Nexus...
Are there any roms that are just lightweight pure and simple ICS roms for the SII?
I'd love any responces and i'm not trying to troll i've searched a bit with no results.
Thank you anyone.
Also i know about the APEX launcher I was just wondering if there is something more direct.
CM9 and AOKP will both give you a pretty stock or more than stock experience.
Miui is a whole different ball game but not touchwiz

The cm or aokp roms, but they aren't fully functional.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Slightly off topic but why get SII when you can get the nexus? Sounds like you would love that phone more... and cheaper too.
Anyways, AKOP/CM9 is probably your best bet when dev gets really rolling on it with an official source release.
Because 4g.
Waiting for source.

This. Ppl that have had the s2 since long before you are also sick of touchwiz but there is nothing the devs can do to remove it completely till we get source
Questions go in the Q&A section
Coming from the Vibrant I had a pure google ICS rom and it was fully functional...
CM9/AOKP which would you guys pick. CM9 still in the alpha stages and really buggy? I would just like something stable..

AOKP ROM

I seen AOKP is available for us AT&T Galaxy S3 users. I came close to downloading it but want to wait until it has more time to work out the bugs. My question is to those who do have or used it- Do you like AOKP as a daily driver for our GS3? Or do you think the few bugs are not that bad?
AOKP was and is my favorite ROM on the Galaxy Nexus. So I want it bad but stability and working features are important. And when I had AOKP on my GN is worked amazing.
I am on the 7-16-2012 it is a ICS ROM and I have bin using it since it can out it is a great every day ROM. I am having no problems and the battery life is great. The JB AOKP is in my opinion not ready for every day use the Bluetooth is not working with audio and they have not got all the options in ROM manager.

My suggestion is to go to particular ROM thread and read. And frustration will follow. I don't think any of custom ROMs yet ready to replace stock ROM. The only incentive at this point is to have JellyBean before Samsung releases their JB update - for bragging rights mostly. However not all pieces of JB source are released by Google and it will take time to develop something once source released.
I see alot of people mentioning that about the Jelly Bean Roms. I am seeing a lot mention the Ice Cream Sandwich roms being really good though.
Thanks everyone for the heads up. I even seen someone who is enjoying the Jelly Bean Rom. Being that I really want stability and all my features working I am going to try some of the Ice Cream Sandwich Roms. Let those hold me over until the Jelly Bean Roms get polished.
On a side note. I already enjoy my LTE GS3 using it stock with Nova launcher. I do have it rooted.

Rooting Gf's phone, need a STABLE ROM

Hello,
I have the VZW GS3 which has a million ROM's, sadly this doesn't seem to be the case here on the sprint phone.l
The most important thing is that everything works , thats it.
Are there any good stable ROM's out there without any built in themes?
Does anyone make TW ROM's? I havnt seen any on here
Lastly, what does LG8 mean?
The stock room is very stable imo. I have tried custom rooms on my evo in the past but have not felt the need here yet.
LG8 is the build number of the stock Rom that was the latest into a few weeks ago. The current release is LI3.

So your girlfriend has Sprint?
LG8 is the firmware version. This version is old. The latest official release is LI3. There are leaked firmware versions up to LIH now. This is Samsung's way to identify when the firmware versions were made. L=2012 I=September, 3=3rd. It goes up to 9 before it goes into letters to represent 10th day and higher.
As for Roms, there are quite a few tw roms available. Check out the android development section. There you will find both ice cream sandwich roms as well as the jelly bean leaks. I'm running jelly bomb domination jelly bean Rom. It's perfect!!!! Great battery life, no issues at all, and its fully themed.
If you want ICS I'd recommend team sonic free gs3 Rom.

Blazer rom jelly Bean V1.9 is the most stable and zero lag on bluetooth stream. update to LIH n u are good.

Most of the roms in the dev forum are touchwiz roms. Almost all of these are stable, even jellybomb (based of leaked jellybean rom) is stable. I've had 0 issues so far, and it feels faster. Sonic, blazer, and many others are stable as well. I like jellybomb though. Most of the bugs will be in the AOSP roms (or miui). These were built from the ground up without Samsungs work. They'll be in the original development mostly.
I've been running blazer for weeks now, on the ics 1.9 version currently and no issues what-so-ever.

I appreciate you guys clearing it up for me. I have not been on XDA for a while and didn't see there are two separate Dev sections now. I was only looking at one of them.
I just have a question regarding Jelly Bean. I run the VZW version myself and we have some major data issues when we run AOSP JB, like data drops, not connecting despite showing full bars etc. Is this an issue at all on the Sprint version ? Are there any issues related to JB?

I thought the best TWiz ROM was Team Sonic FreeGS3 and ran that for the longest until i stumbled upon Blackbean ROM, which is a Jelly Bean ROM, and haven't gone back to TWiz ever since.
The TW JB LIH leak is very nice, very stable, and used by many as a daily driver.

Well, quite a few people have had data issues, mostly concerning the 3g/4g handoff, but I wouldn't say its MAJOR like you make it sound on VZW. I personally like TouchWiz Jellybean.

All the JB ROM's I've tried have caused a noticeable hit on battery life for me. I need my phone to last 10 hours reliably, and after every JB ROM I've tried, I was down below 20% after 10 hours, and that's not acceptable. What's your battery life on Blackbean like?
With FreeGS, I am usually around 60-70% after 10 hours, depending on usage.
Can anyone give me input on data quality on Blackbean and FreeS3 ROMs? I know its an odd question but my ROM's data isn't what it should be. I'm just wondering if this the case with most JB ROMs.

if you root your girlfriend's phone, be prepared to play constant IT guy when the slightest thing doesn't work perfectly. you will wind up managing two phones and it is not very fun when things go wrong...

I'll agree. I rooted a couple of Nook Colors at work and when the slightest thing went wrong I'd have to take it home and flash it or update it or something. I guess rooting is best kept to one's self.

Haha it is technically my ex-gf.
I am only doing her S3 because I did this for her Evo 4g and she didn't complain once.

New to Samsung

Greetings fellow S2 users. I hope I'm not too late to the party and that this phone still receives much love. I come from the OG Evo 4g side of the forums and after 2 years on sprint, I decided to high tail it to something moderately priced, more current hardware wise, and a plan that is more affordable.
And now with the release of the new OFFICIAL JB update from good 'ol Samsung, will there be any TW kernels or only AOSP? On the Evo, Sense was terrible and slow as all hell, but after playing with TW for a while I've actually become quite fond of the layout compared to AOSP. I will eventually make the switch to AOSP, but for now am LOVING the features of TW. The Music Square is nice for mood based music, I like that the video player plays pirated movies without the need for codecs/apps, WIFI calling is great and works flawlessly, and free visual voicemail without the need for Google Voice. And lets not forget free Hotspots.
Sad to see that Facial unlocking is now gone with the new JB update, and there are no music controls on lockscreen for default music app, but those are minor flaws. Would like to see S-Voice but IDK if it's a GSIII thing or not so not too bent out of shape.
So without much further ado, I am here to ask did I make a mistake picking the SGSII, and what I should know about ROM and Kernel wise compared to the OG Evo 4G. In other words, I assume that instead of Sense, it's now boiled down to TW (touchwiz) and AOSP based roms? Furthermore, is SBC still a thing; As in trickle charging? And are there any other news/tricks I should know about?
I would try out the PAC man ROM to be honest a lil bit of everything besides touchwiz i was a flashaholic but as soon as i started using PAC man ROM i havnt been able to find another ROM that suits me i love it and all the customizing options

In order of rom purity:
1. Try touchwiz either stock or ptmr3's new builds.
2. Cm10.1 official by team chopsticks
3. Aokp official by whitehawkx
4. Pac
5. Else
PTMR3 is currently working on a custom 4.1.2 tw kernel from source. so in a day or 3 we will have a jb tw kernel:good:
and if you want to try a great aosp rom jelly bam is where its at but you wont find it on xda its on goo.im under devs - jelly bam - tmobile galaxy s2. i recommend it with cerux kernel. also you can use roms from the skyrocket also so check out that thread too.
Its a great phone with a lot of development.

I played with it for a small time, but was saddened by the fact I couldn't get WIFI calling on anything but TWIZ.It's the main reason I went to TMO because I get poor reception in my house. Although while on the rom, I noticed I had more bars than I did on default JB Twiz rom.
Back when I had my EVO I remember people saying AOSP uses different parameters to measure signals compared to stock roms, is this still true?
This phone is one of the best I've ever had, loving every feature of it, currently running Embryo rom 6.11 with cymbaline 3.0.74 kernal, amazing speeds benching in high 11's, its twiz based since I personally hate asop lol, all around beast of a phone, you did good...
