I know this Is a simple question, - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just flashed the fh13 ota zip which has the normal stock recovery and I want to try flashing agat's kernel/recovery but last time I tried to flash the FI03 ROM and agat's tFI03 kernel my phone wouldn't boot. I tried both the .tar and .zip and my phone just hung at the 4g splashscreen. I was able to use my backup to restore back to a working setup. But with the stock recovery i no longer have that option obviously so what options do i have to cover my ass if something goes wrong?

Lost root and no usb cable

I flashed the most recent TBASGSIII 2.0 ROM. (FF18 stockish tw ROM with agats kernel/recovery).
I was installing my apps setting up my bootanimation and removing garbage and think i removed/disabled the wrong thing.
Programs are acting like they have no root access. Cant quickboot or remount /system. Mobil Odin cant recognize device to flash gb kernel to restore nandroid.
Im visiting with the inlaws and have no usb cable. I have a laptop, wifi, kies, and my E4GT as my only tools for survival.
I have no way to recover from a brick except to reactivate my HTC Hero (epic fail).
My most recent nandroids are all ICS using agats recovery to backup. Im not sure if its safe to restore using even his safe recovery or if that will even fix my issue.
Last things i remember doing before this were flashing a boot animation zip, replacing the boot animation and sound files in system, and disabled a couple apps (talk, task, not sure).

You must have deleted super user
Try flashing su.zip
Also mobile Odin needs root access so you can't use it
But you can use odin

Can u link su.zip or post i can get it from? I cant get xda app to load for some reason.
Superuser app shows binaries are installed, but cant gain root access to update them.
Is it safe to nandroid restore with agats kernel/recovery?

As long as you can still get to CWM this should do the trick for you. Flash it in CWM, reboot your phone, and you should be good to go.

Good luck!
PS - Restoring a nandroid from Agat's recovery is completely safe.
Agats had proven to be safe for me. I have flawlessly backed up and restored using it. Even wiping everything works. Just make sure you don't wipe after you restore if your recovery isn't agat's... YOU WILL BRICK HARD. If you did a nandroid, Agat's should save you.

Thank you all. I did eventually make it home and odined to el28 and restored from there to be sure.
Im glad that agat's kernel is safe for recovering too. Definitely loving the green menu, too

Going from ics to gb

So basically I was having issues with my phone and ended up getting a warranty replacement. So b4 I sent my old one back I needed to revert it back to stock. I found a flashable zip from zedomax that returned the stock kernel, recovery, and ROM. Only thing it was 2.3.5 gingerbread. I was running infamous 3.1 and did darkside super wipe and cache., well after flashing the zip I got the stock recovery, and part of stock boot animation, well after the stock boot animation then came the infamous animation then nothing. It wouldn't boot up past that.,I ended up using Odin and fixing it and converted stock that way. My question is... Is there a special method going from ics to gb?

Yeah just use odin or a flashable zip to return to stock no big deal
I know how to Odin and get stock...I'm asking if there's anything special to go from an ics ROM to a GB ROM? BC when I did it I soft bricked, using all the darkside
Wipes.

And btw I know the zip wasn't corrupt BC I had used it b4 when I did an exchange when I was running GB already.

I have flashed from GB to ICS back and forth a few times never really had an issue like that the only real issue I have ever had was a few apps force closing but a quick wipe of the cache took care of that issue

don't use the CWM flashable zips. if you do you should flash the rom and kernel too? you probably did but sometimes it doesn't work correctly. I would suggest flashing via odin to get to stock then wipe data/factory reset through stock recovery. that is the cleanest method to get to stock. the CWM flashing to zip sometimes leave stuff behind from earlier flashes.

Q: lost access to recovery after nightly flash

So, I flashed CM10 nightly 11/8. Dirty flash over a previous nightly, just cache and dalvik wipe. Now I can't boot to recovery, it just hangs at the cyan boot logo. Was using TWRP and I made sure to click the inject twrp box. Everything else works well and normally, aside from no recovery. I know the correct answer is to odin to stock and start fresh. However, does anybody know of a way to re-flash twrp or clockwork without access to recovery. I would like a quick temp fix for a few days if there is one. Thanks in advance!

U can just use odin to flash cwm. Look for the 5.x version thread for cwm and there's a .tar flashable file somewhere there. Just flash it in odin and you should be good. Since ur already rooted it should stick.

I'm no Odin pro. Do I need the victory pit file too? Also what box do I put the cwm tar ball in? I appreciate the help.

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not flash the tar file for cwm, that is bml only... there is no .tar for an mtd recovery for this phone... sorry, but if you lost recovery on mtd, sadly the only way to get it back is to odin to stock...
Word. Thanks for the save. I didn't think of the bml/mtd issue. I guess no short cuts this time. Thanks again guys.

Ya it doesn't work if you're on mtd, you'll get error on cwm and can't flash anything, even you flash twrp, you'll get error
One solution..
Odin to stock and odin cwm again

I think there IS (hopefully) a way of flashing MTD recovery without returning to stock. Maybe... grab a recovery.img from the ROM package, put it in SD card, and go to Terminal Emulator on phone. Then...
Command:
su
cd /sdcard
flash_image recovery recovery.img
This works on my good'ol (sold) G1 and Milestone... but don't know if this works on MTD. Anyway, give it a shot

Well, I ended up Odining back to stock and starting over. After a crappy night of a bad cable and battery CPR, I got it working. I was using TWRP and I suspect that something went wrong in the re-injection process. All is well now. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions

[Q] How to get back to rooted TouchWiz?

I'm on CM10 and I have a NANDROID backup of TouchWiz, but the problem is that the backup was made with CWM and I recently switched to TWRP. My understanding is that backups are not compatible between the two.
So what I'd like to find is a flashable zip containing stock rooted TouchWiz (for AT&T) that doesn't require Odin. Does such a thing exist or will I have to flash with Odin and unroot again myself? I had a bit of a bad experience the first time around so I'd prefer not to go that route.
Why not just switch back to cwm and restore the back up?
Actually, that occurred to me just after I posted. Unfortunately the cwm backup appears to be corrupt and my phone wouldn't boot after the error! Luckily I had one of the CM10 nightlies on my sd card and was able to get into cwm and it's installing now. Geez, what a pain in the ass!
Go to the development section and download lh9 rooted ROM, and the modem and kernel for it(its in the same thread). Download mobile Odin from play store, trust me just buy it, it will save your phone's life from time to time. Use it to flash the ROM and kernel and modem. DO NOT FLASH LH9 ROOTED ROM USING CWM.

I'm curious why you would say not to flash this with CWM. I did this and it worked just fine.
Also, it's in general section.
Because every now and then after I flash it I don't get boot. So I avoid it by using mobile Odin.

I deleted it because it was a stupid question that I should have known the answer to. It was when you recover a nandroid does the recovery and kernel from when you made the android come with it.
My problem was I am and was on king kang and decided to flash a modem. I didn't realize the jb modems were only for tw roms so when I had no data I though I needed to update prl and profile. I flashed a stock rooted rom from repository, it was rooted but didn't mention had no recovery. Odin kept falling when trying to put a new recovery on. And after 5 hours of fail I finally succeed with a one click from repository. After flashing a modem (fi27) I think. I just wanted to make sure I want going to be stuck with no recovery again because that really sucked. I didn't mention this in the original question but all is well now and I'm back on king kang
