[Q] Using Titanium to Force System App - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I am trying to use Titanium Backup to move launcher pro to system app so that it moves a little smoother and every time I do the launcher force closes and can't be used until I uninstall and re-install it. Am I doing something wrong? Should I go about changing it to a system app some other way? Thanks.

I remember reading something in another thread that stated you would need to use TB to freeze the stock launcher, in addition to what you've already done. I've never tried it myself so don't hold me to it.

I've successfully converted GoLauncher to a system app.
Did you set permissions the same as the rest of the /system/apk? Then reboot?

[Q] Disabling Sense to use Launcher Pro

I searched and couldn't find an answer
I am currently on rooted stock ROM. I want to basically disable the Sense UI and switch to Launcher Pro. How do I go about disabling Sense UI in favor of Launcher Pro?
I would just set Launcher Pro as default but I don't want Sense running in the background,
I do the same thing......after a while sense gets turned off until you launch it again

There is a thread with a flashable file to completely remove sense.

Thanks, but I don't necessarily want to flash something. I was thinking about using titanium backup and "Freezing" the HTC files. Would that work?
should work just fine you can remove everything sense but some of the HTC stuff must stay. I know for sure if you remove com.htc.socialnetwork.provider the phone starts having problems using sense or not. Just do a nand backup and start getting rid of all HTC's and Sense BS but make sure you do that nand because if you remove the wrong file you will get constant force closes and won't be able to restore it even if you have backed up through titanium.

Did a NAND yesterday. I'll try this. Thanks.
Go to appliactiosns, find sense, clear defaults. I think if you install another launcher they begin to compete for default status Nd android will ask you what you like to do inregaurds to which launcher will be default. Super easy. No flashing or hacking needed.

an alternative is there are scripts made that will remove sense and the known ok to remove bloatware/htc apps. one is linked in my signature. you flash the script just like a rom (follow instruction listed) once you have launcherpro set as your launcher. this will ensure it doesnt run and gives you the extra space in your phones memory.

[Q] why do applications keep crashing?

i rooted my phone today, and downgraded it
but before all that i made a backup using MyBackup.
after rooting i restored it and all the apps keep crashing, even apps that come with the stock ROM.
when trying to uninstall, the 'remove app' app crashes too. at the end i uninstalled most of the backed up apps.
but my question is, why does this keep happening and is there a way to stop it?
It's because you shouldn't backup and restore apps across different roms. It will cause compability issues ie force closes.

Open rom manager app from the market and select fix permissions. Let that run then restart your phone. This might make all the difference. It might however, make no difference at all.

MyBackup gives this issue sometimes. Try to restore your backup once again. Remember to restart your phone right away (even 3 secs delay gives you the same error) after the backup is finished. Try to import apps only.
If this does not help, i m afraid the backup won´t work.

[Q] Is it possible to uninstall system apps?

Hi,
I have the Vision Sense 1.82.405.1 Untouched ROM on my Desire Z, and I've noticed excessive data usage with the News app according to PhoneUsage app, despite turning off sync, so I wish to uninstall it. However, it's a HTC app. I have Titanium Backup but I can't figure out how to uninstall the app. Is it possible, and if so how?
In titanium back up bring up the menu select filter, select system apps then hit apply. You will then have a list of just system apps. Find the one you are looking for then when you click on them you will get a pop up menu. I would advise freezing the apps instead of uninstalling them. This way if you ever wanted to get an app back you haven't got reflash the rom. Also wouldn't hurt to do a nandroid first I uninstalled some system apps the other day which resulted fc's that I couldn't get rid of.

Recommendations above (to try freezing the app, and do a nandroid) are good ones, before uninstalling system apps. The News app is built into Android, and uninstalling such apps can possibly lead to issues.

I always uninstalled it and never had an issue.
Thanks. By nandroid do you mean using clockworkmod ROM manager to make a backup under Backup and Restore->Backup Current ROM? I've read nandroid guides that say I have to reboot into recovery. Do I have to do this or will "Backup Current ROM" in the app do the same thing?
Also, with News installed, do you guys experience excessive data usage, regardless of sync settings? This is the HTC News app I believe, not the stock Google one(if there's such a thing)
Hi,
Are there any issues with uninstalling/removing the Stocks and Peep system apps? I only have the free version of Titanium Backup and it doesn't allow me to freeze the apps.
Thanks.

Moving apps to /system/data/ (Alex-V 1.0 GB)

Hi everyone
I had previously on my Desire a Froyo custom rom Alex-V 2.3.
I removed system apps I don't use and as I had quite a lot of free space, using adb push, I moved apps from /data/app to /system/app.
And it used to work.
Now I've "upgraded" to a gingerbread rom Alex-V 1.0 GB.
I removed system apps I don't use easily, but when I move apps to system/app, I get a force close (I tried with several apps).
I tried with adb push, copy/paste, by flashing, nothing works.
Did someone try it and succeed ? Or does someone would know why this happen ?
What apps?
Fixing permissions usually work. Try to set them.
Did you tried with titanium backup pro?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
same here - force close
hey !
sorry for late answer
davebugyi, setting permissions didn't help
but then I tried k3lcior's idea with Titanium Backup Pro (I didn't notice there was an option to convert in system app !) and it works !
Thank you guys
You should try this arizone, but you'll need the paid version of Titanium to get this option available.

[Q] Titanium Backup completely messed up EG22

OK,
I was just finished installing my phone with EG22 (meaning Gingerbread ROM, not Radio), but I had some strange issue.
I installed Titanium Backup and tried to remove (force) Amazon mp3 apk. The phone rebooted into recovery and an error appeard telling Clockwork couldn't mount /system.
The phone was bricked, couldn't do anything in recovery, any action would lead to a screen with an Android logo and a "!" sign in a triangle.
So I used odin to reinstall stock Froyo (trying to flash CWM directly failed too) and now I'm rooting again in order to reflash with EG22. Any issues like these? Did I do something stupid trying to remove the app? What if I adb with root privileges and delete the app?
Regards
I think it was just a fluke
I delete the Amazonmp3 apk all the time. EG22 was really stable for me, too. I don't think you did anything wrong. I would just chalk it up to a bad flash or random corruption.
It was indeed very strange, never had such an issue. Is it the same to remove it via Titanium Backup or via adb directly?
Get sdx app removal tool. You can backup all your bloat before deleting them. It also allows you to restore those apps.

Titanium backup works fine for me. I have to spend a few hours in it every time I install a new ROM anyway, so I just delete and freeze apps there. Never really had a problem unless I do something stupid like delete the market or the status bar, lol.
Well,
Just removed manually (with ADB) all the bloatware, Seems to have worked fine, still finding apps like:
AllShare (will see what it's for)
Free HD Game
Nascar
SprintID (there's certainly no app in /system/app that contains Sprint or sprint)??
And that should be it, from having over 20 useless apks to having 4 is a big improvement. Still wondering why Titanium messed up my device, but well, doing it manually is also fun...

1. AllShare is useless, just get rid of it. I always do even though I forget what it does.
2. The free HD games APK is BS from Sprint that does nothing for you. NASCAR is Sprint's NASCAR app. If you use it, you can delete it.
3. I would keep SprintID. It is Sprint's weird theme applier/app installer. I don't use it but I always keep it.
All of these can be SAFELY removed with Titanium Backup. I have done it to all of them, I think on EG22 also.
