quick compose for sms messages. for phones with search buttons if u enable the setting in chompsms, all you have to do is hold the search button and it'll allow to send a text message in any app that you're currently in.
Never mind. I found it. Been so long since I had an android everything is new to me all over again.

So how did you do it? I am looking for the same thing.
i'm wondering too how to make a physical+touch shortcut for quick compose for chompsms
I just switched from an iPhone with BiteSMS and have been trying to figure it out since I got it, but I figured it out yesterday!
Nova Launcher + SwipePad + ChompSMS
Within SwipePad, long touch one of the spaces to add Shortcuts --> Activities --> ChompSMS --> Quick Compose
SwipePad creates "hot areas" at certain edges of your display from any screen (even lockscreen or in apps)

I have the Nexus 4 and the newest SwipePad and the newest ChompSMS. I get as far s Shortcuts->Activities but once there I don't see ChompSMS listed. Any idea what's going on?
Not sure but i think you need nova launcher first

I stumbled across these and thought I would share. Feel free to add anything you might have found:
If you turn off auto-brightness, you can brighten the screen with a swipe of the finger. Just press the notifications area and move your finger left or right.
On both the homescreen and the apps menu you will see a row of dots indicating which page you are on. Hold the dot and scroll left or right. The pages will quickly scroll until you see the page you want.
You can focus your camera on a specific thing by touching that area on your screen.
In the camera app you can use the volume buttons to zoom in and out. OR you can pinch to zoom in and out.
Mute the Battery Notification (using Tasker) Directions are here.
Swipe left on contact name from the contact list and you'll automatically be able to send a text.
Swipe right on a contact name from the contact list and you'll automatically be able to call them.
Press your home button and lock screen button (power button) at the same time to save a screenshot.
You can scroll much faster on some apps such as YouTube, Astro File Manager and Market by using 3 fingers and if you scroll with 2 fingers you get precise scrolling (no scroll momentum).
Hold down the home button to access recent programs and the task manager.
Good stuff. Thanks!
Very useful tips, thanks!
But aren't these two basically the same thing?

Holding the power button will activate a pop up menu that has 'airplane mode' as an option.
Loved the swipe left/right on contacts to txt/call. That's awesome. Another nuissance of mine gone.
BTW, you repeated abour 2 tips.
Fixed the duplication. I'll see what else I can find later.

Any way to change the docked apps on the homescreen? I prefer Handcent over the default messaging app.

I'll still never understand the logic of having a WHITE background in a messaging app... Talk about a battery killer!
That's one thing I'm going to miss about the Moment. Black background in the STOCK app, rather than having to install a 3rd party app.
All though, if I'm forced to, Go SMS is my preference.

With Handcent you can pick either a dark or light theme. Default is light. There's even other skins you can apply.

Thanks for the tip! It worked but now I have a followup question. Is there anyway to use the Handcent Icon widget in my dock? One of the reasons I love Handcent is the widget that shows how many unread messages I have.
FYI, other reasons I like Handcent: the lockscreen popup, it allows me to use my own sounds/mp3s as ringtones and alarms, Emoji pack allows me to send and receive emoji icons with my iPhone friends
U can hold 2 points on the screen like with ur thumbs for example. Then tilt ur phone forward or back to zoom. Just like that 10.1 tablet

Can you turn off the silly "bubble" chat with Handcent yet? Last time I tried it (a year ago) I couldn't stand the comic book look.
I'll probably use Go SMS until a dev over at SDX reverse releases a black version of the stock SMS.apk.
I'm also hoping the old version of GMail works so I can copy it over and use it with LauncherPro with working mail counts.
U dont have to have to have the bubble look. Handcent gives us different options. Android style is included if u r curious

Been playing with my new phone for less that 24 hours. Something has been bothering me and I don't know if I am going crazy or not. Where did the shortcuts go? on gingerbread when you long pressed on the home screen you had the option to do widgets, and also application shortcuts... I don't know where those are now since widgets are now in the app drawer. Did they kill the shortcut in ICS?
they did, but somehow you can still do it since people have said they have desktop visualizer and folder organizer working.
If anyone knows how to do it please share.
Hold down on app icons in the main app directory. Widgets are also in this directory by using the widget tab at the top of the directory or swiping right beyond the apps.

That will just add a shortcut to the app on the main screen. I am looking for info on how to activate the shortcuts that some apps have. IE with touchdown email you can have a shortcut to your inbox... I can't find that functionality in ICS.
EDIT: Nevermind, misunderstood. No delete function here?
Most of the shortcuts seem to now be classified under Widgets. If a third party app is missing a shortcut it should have then that app will probably need to be updated for ICS.

I am on JB 4.2.1 and I have just downloaded "Touchdown" software to understand your problem because I never used this software
Anyway, maybe what you want to do can be accomplished by a Widget called "Touchdown for Smartphone" (1x1). I have selected it, placed it on the main screen then it asked me to "Select the shortcut you want to add".
I hope this solves your issue
I just got ADW launcher and I need a calendar widget to replace the stock one.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I'd like one similar to the stock month calendar widget. One that shows the whole month, some kind of bullet or marker on days that have an event, and some kind of text box showing the event for the day you touch.
Thanks.

I second that question/request. I wonder if theres a way to use the stock one with other launchers, it seems to be the only stock widget thats missing if i remember correctly.

Actually there's a couple more I need to find replacements for too.
The task manager widget that displays the number of active apps and takes you to the task manager if pressed.
And the double clock widget that will let you display two different clocks, with time zone and location of your choosing displayed.

Thanks! I'm trying it out right now. There's still a few things from the stock one I miss though. It doesn't have a widget with a text box on the bottom that can show the whole event. Instead it shows small text in the day box that gets cut off, and you have to click on that day to see the whole event title. The tasks seem to be a little limited too. Like you can't add a location that you can navigate to later. I'm gonna keep playing with it though. Thanks.
i use the Go Launcher EX Calendar widget, it's simply the best available out there

yeah I saw Go launcher yesterday during my search and told myself I gotta try that one. Looks like a lot of good stuff on that one. I especially like that task manager widget that they have.
Thanks for the recommendation AllGamer! I'm using Go Launcher now and loving it.
lilant510, if you're still missing stuff from the stock, I suggest you try that one. Has everything I was missing from stock and more. Better than ADW IMO.
AllGamer,
Do you use the Go launcher toggle widget? Does it work ok for you?
When I press the GPS toggle, it goes to the GPS settings menu, instead of just automatically toggling it off/on.
The 4g toggle sometimes does and sometimes doesn't work also. Seems to depend on if the wifi is toggled on with it or not.
Wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.
i do not use the Go Toggle
because the ROM already has all the on/off switches i need build in

they also have a Transparent skin for the Go Calendar Widget, it makes it really elegant
I've used literally ever launcher available to date and imho Go launcher is the absolute best! And all the Widgets that come along with it put it over the top. There are so many skins fir the Widgets and I use the calander widget which is my favorite.

Nova, Apex, and ADW allows you to have more grids on the screen which in turn allows you to have more widgets and shortcuts on the screen. It also allows you to use gestures to do certain things. For example, on my homescreen, I have the notification bar disabled, but by swiping down on the screen, I can pull it up. Swipe up, app drawer. Double tap launches google now. And all those things are customizable.
Another thing that Nova lets you do is add a shortcut to your app that does 2 things. So for instance, I have an icon for Chrome on my home screen. When I tap it, it launches Chrome, but when I slide it up, it launches the stock browser instead. Same thing for my SMS app. I tap it, it launches messaging, but slide it, it launches Google Talk. Not only that, but these launchers allow you to customize the app icons that are shown.
If you want to see the awesome things that people use Nova/Apex/ADW, go to mycolorscreen.com. It'll blow your mind away.

hello to all.
I've been searching for the past few days for a good lock-screen replacement.
overall i'm ok with stock lock-screen. i don't like to much to flash roms.
I've tried slidelock locker and it's probably the one that's get the closest to what i'm looking for.
I've got a few demands from a lock-screen.
1. wake up phone on notifications - SMS e-mail, Facebook etc.
2. show notifications on the lock-screen + preview of the notifications.
3. lock/unlock sounds are important to me.
4. disabling home button.
5. not too much memory consuming.
slidelock has some issues with the home button and sounds but it's reasnoble.
currently i'm using go locker, but it doesn't wake the phone and the panel of the sliding apps menu has only 3 options - unlock phone, sms, phone calls.
tried dyanmic notifications but it doesn't show a preview of the notifications.
feels like the iphone lock-screen (hate to admit) is just what i need.
any help would be appreciated.
thnks.

thanks for your suggestion.
however, as far as i can understand, slidelock locker is from the same company. it's the 2nd generation of the lockerpro or something like that. so no sounds on lockscreen and i think it's battery consuming...
Every locksckreen app will use ram and battery because it must run in background, it doesn't integrate into framework, if you want aosp style you can install xposed module aosp locksckreen, it works great but it has not options, it integrates into framework so it wont consume battery or ram.
