I've noticed this phone can get a little warm when running multiple apps, but will it be safe from overheating with the Otterbox defender? A layer of foam padding, then thick plastic and then rubber and screen protector built in.. do you think it will overheat and break?
If that were the case then I think there would be tons of complaint.
I've had that case from day 1, so I've never felt how hot the phone gets.
My only issue is that the power and volume buttons were very hard to press. After a while they get worked in, but still harder than I'd like. I've gotten used to it though.

Btw. I like how you described the Otter. Very sexy description if you ask me.

I hate how otter box looks compared to the sexy sleek look of the s3 but ive had mine on since day one and have never had any problems with heating issues but like it was previously stated the volume and power buttons do get annoying to push
With all of you complaining about the buttons. I'm starting to feel weird because I found them easy to push.
let's go to the next level... BRICK IT!!!
The buttons on every single one in my store were hard to push....commuter and defender

Do you guys consider the rubber layer sticky? Like lint sticking on it and pulling your pocket inside out?
I've had both Commuter and Defender. The buttons on the Commuter are definitely very stiff, which made me get a Trident Aegis with a very clicky power button.
Right now, I'm using a gray/white Defender and it's very well constructed. The outer silicone layer isn't rubbery but the buttons are still clicky.
I can appreciate the protection afforded by the Otterbox Defender for my S3, but I could only tolerate it for a day. After that I returned to a magnetic clasped, belt clipped leather case. I might feel differently if I were a steelworker, plumber, electrician, or even a repair tech. It's overkill for an ordinary home or typical office environment. Beyond losing the tactile sensation of holding it when using the Defender, the hazy plastic screen protector isn't needed except in extraordinarily hazardous environments. Gorilla Glass is...well, Gorilla Glass. My S3's screen stays fairly clear of fingerprints, and even then wipes clean by a gentle rub against a soft cotton cloth. The Defender turns an adroit sports car into a clumsy SUV. It's there if you really need it, but it's not for me.
I bought mine because I have a 4 &
3 year old @ home!

the only minor complaint that I have about my otterbox defender is that the foam layer doesn't stay stuck on the protective part, it keeps coming out and I gotta keep pushing it into place, would there be any kind of clear glue or something I can put on so it doesn't keep coming out

I prefer the ballistic case hc solved the oil slick effect using the screen protector they give you. I was wondering what a lot of you folks prefer using I don't mind a slightly bulky case fits great in my hand anyways thanks.
Ballistic by far. I use the optional case at work and drop it down to the inside case for everything else. I love that the holster works either way.
My wife is still happy with the Trident Cyclops.
Both of our Seidio Rugged case's fell apart a long time ago.

Count me in for the ballistic. I'm in construction and I put it through the ringer. The phone doesn't have a scratch on it. I use the outer rubber sleeve at work then take it off for everyday use.

How did you mess the screen protector up if you got finger prints on it you can wash it down with glass cleaner or water and put it back on put it on wet and use the your ID or a card to smooth out air bubbles. If you really messed it up id check out ebay man you can probably find a screen protector that work like a champ pre cut. Or go by a zagg screen protector it should work for you i find the bottom part cut out on the stock ballastic screen protector annoying cause everytime you press a key down there it kinda sticks lol tho i have gotten use to it.
I gotta throw a vote in for Seidio Innocase Surface II. Not bulky at all. Leaves all buttons very easy to push. Compatible with their kicka$$ Innocase Car kit (cradle style holder - NOT a cheesy universal fit one). Will it hold up to being dropped from a 3rd story window? Unlikely. Can you throw your phone through a wall with this one? Doubt it. But if you're doing stuff like that with your phone (such silliness that requires a Superman-esq force field) - you really need to rethink having a $500 phone.

I do alot of work in a shop and always leaning over a car and under cars plus anything outdoors mending fences and such kinda need the bulk too keep oil and grease and when your phone might get caught on something and yanked from your side its a good thing to have to keep your screen from getting the snot kicked outta it great for keep dust out. Ive seen the case your talking about there a good brand. Really depends on what you need and suit of taste. Ballistic case is rugged great for not in the office sort of jobs and lifestyle.

I am using the otter box commuter and love it, but the only problem is that the power button is a little stiff

I used to have an otter box commuter, however the outshell cracked pretty bad. The situation that cracked it is pretty bad, I'm surprised that only the case broke, so I have nothing bad to say about the protective levels of the commuter. However, I obviously need a new case, since right now I just have the commuters silicone cover on. I was thinking about getting another commuter, but the innocase activeX case caught my eye. Does anyone have any opinions about these two cases in comparison to each other?
I haven't tried the commuter, but the active-x case is really nice. I've recently picked up a defender (just had to try it), but the fit is not as nice as the active x. Plus the active x has the corner protection with the spider. I'd give the active x a shot. I think I have some images posted in a thread here in accessories.
dm
A big concern about the Active-X is the buttons. They look like they'd be hard to press with the case on. How is it?
Much easier then on the defender. I never had any button issues. Easy to push, can do just by feel etc. One thing that is really nice on the active x is the feeling of the side contours, it feels nice and more secure in your hand. I did have some rubber peeling issues on a blue activex. Seido made good on it, through the reseller, and sent me another case, without needing the old case back, or even images of it actually.
So in this house we have three captivates, 2 currently in activex cases and one/mine currently in a defender. I still have the extra active x case and might be going back.

Fit is perfect and buttons are easily pressible.
There is a small crack developing on the top corner by the micro-usb port. It has taken some major damage though, so.

I've heard outterbox has great customer service you should call them and see if you can get the shell replaced. They might do it for free.
LOVE my Commuter. Dropped it several times, not even a scratch in the plastic of the case.
The D3O cases as many are already familiar with here, are a perfect fit, however the buttons are waaaay too hard to press (not recommended if you flash your phone a lot)
The Flex Protect version of the case, is at least easier to put on and take off than the dual tone Dual Impact version.
The D3O Dual Impact cases feels like a solid plank of wood, is not heavy, but it's absolutely not flexible enough for you to easily put the phone in, or take it out.
(Dual Impact photos coming later)
You almost have to break the case in two to get the phone out of a Dual Impact case.
In the other hand of the spectrum we have the cheapo generic Clear S TPU case with the dual tone S shape which is not a perfect fit (as you can see from the pictures), but the case does a way better job and it really highlights features of SGS2 really well
The grip is amazing with the Clear S TPU case, no more slipping off the hands, like it was in when using the D3O case, the matte like finish is nice, but it becomes slippery in a dry hand.
The difference between the 2 cases are night and day, D3O is perfectly tailored for the T989, however it's not user friendly, while the cheap Clear S TPU is not a perfect fit, it does everything better than the D3O
I got the Black D3O Flex Protect case from Tmo online store https://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOn...415d-b2d0-0254711cf682&inCart=True&catCode=21
and the Clear S TPU from DX http://www.dealextreme.com/p/protective-tpu-back-case-for-samsung-sgh-t989-translucent-white-93678
DX = DealExtreme
I had these links in my post about SGSII cases and really like the look of the TPU S case.

What I don't like about the paper mod is that if you drop the phone you are more likely to damage the buttons with the extra pressure the paper creates.
A simpler mod is to just take a razor blade and cut slits in the rubber. This allows the rubber buttons to flex in the middle and reach the phone buttons easily. There are no gaps and the cuts are invisible even when pressed. I did it to my case and the buttons work GREAT now. This absolutely fixes the problem. The manufacturer should do this themselves. It makes an already great case nearly perfect.
The yellow marks are where I put the cuts. I used my pocket knife. A razor would do a cleaner job but the cuts are self healing since no material is removed. I left the center piece uncut between the volume buttons and the ends of each button for longevity. The cuts are only where the yellow marks are at in the pictures. I recommend starting from the middle and working your way to the outside when cutting the slits for the volume buttons to prevent accidentally cutting through the center section.
Dirt and debris still can't get in since there really isn't a gap created.
Best wishes to all my S II modding brethren.

Will have to try this little trick out. I have the gray on black D30 case and the buttons are a P.I.T.A to press. I have had my phone for about a month and a half so I'm kinda used to it by now but it's still annoying. For this reason I make sure any ROM I flash includes the Advanced Power Menu for easy access to recovery mode. I am not looking forward to the day when I may have to manually enter recovery mode .
As an aside, if anyone can point me to a nice case with a good kickstand it would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, there are people in the other D30 cases thread saying that their cases have cracked. Anyone here have this happen to them yet?

Can I just bring back my D30 to T-mobile store and ask for replacement if it develops crack like someone mentioned? I bought it from the store and have receipt and everything.
I just bought the D3O flex protect case. The power button is a bit tougher than having no case, but its not unbearable. I actually think that I wont hit the power button by accident any more now.
Case seems ok. It doesnt add much thickness or look to the phone, and I actually think it feels more secure in my hand than not having a case (stock sides feel slippery).
As for cracking.. I dont see how the flex protect case will crack because its flexible.

Is everyone's power button extremely hard to push, with little to no give or feel when pushing the button? Same with the volume buttons.
Thx, in advance.
Extremely hard to press. I got mine two days ago, already planning on returning it. Very disappointed.
Same here, very hard to press... i have also the defender series (black), and the buttons are much more better (can i say that? my english is bad).
But the defender are ugly :/ i want to see a photo of a defender glacier...
If you have it for a bit and work it in it gets better. Id say like 2-3 weeks. Its still a little hard but not as bad as when I first got it. I switch over and started using my uag case mainly

It's been about a week for me and it is still a bit tough to press. To be honest it is minor to me as I like the look and protection. I am still using the screen protector that came with it because the curved crystal wouldn't stay put and it's not bad. Try taking the case off and taking the rubber piece out and turning the power button inside out to loosen it up a bit. Just kinda play with it. The more you do it the easier it gets to press from my experience.

From my experience if you align the power button and slide it into the plastic first it seems to be a little better. Slide the power and top of the phone in first the the bottom and just jam the volume buttons in last

It gets better as you break it in. Also, use Apex launcher and you can set your home button to turn the screen on. I almost never touch the power button.

Is it just me, or has Otterbox's quality & design gone down the toilet since last year? I had a Defender for my Photon, and it was almost perfect -- grippy rubber-like plastic, and firm tactile button action. I tried both the Commuter & Defender for the S3, and they totally sucked by comparison. They were both slippery, and the firm, tactile button response I loved was gone.

Box wave recently posted this case on their site http://www.boxwave.com/google-nexus...ssic-book-google-nexus-5-case/bwpdd/mmp-zcmf/
I have the nexus 4 version of this case and the quality and durability is excellent. It really looks like an old bible or other classy looking book. This makes it the extreme opposite of a slick minimal case, but hey, that's not what you want anyway
There are a few things to be aware of though.
1) you can't adjust the volume while its in your pocket. The volume buttons are not accessible while the case is closed, so the phone has to be taken out of your pocket, flap opened, then volume adjust.
2) holding the phone/case in one hand feels really bulky since the flap is folded back on itself. The case is an inch thick, so holding that in hand is kinda ick, unless you really like a big beefy grip on your phone.
3) doesn't have auto sleep/wake.
These are my experiences with the n4 version. Despite the shortcomings, I still recommend this case if you want a wallet case with no magnetic flap to get in the way and don't mind that its very large and bulky.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Some other details to note:
Drop protection is high. It absorbs high impact extremely well since it's basically a glove made of cardboard and leather.
The cards fit just fine in the case, however they do directly contact the screen. I don't think plastic cards can damage the screen but I use a screen protector anyway.

Hi, I'm thinking of getting this case. I've never owned a wallet-style case, and I've got a couple of questions for you:
1) How well does it fit in a front jeans pocket? Is it a pain to get out on short notice?
2) I imagine it being sort of tricky to actually hold your phone up to your ear in this case. Is that the case?
Thanks in advance!
1) depends on how tight your jeans are the case I have is about an inch or two thick... I guess try putting 2 fingers side by side in your pocket (sideways duh). That's About the thickness.
2) its not hard to hold at all... Maybe even easier since it now basically has a giant handle. It is large in the hand though... Not thin and sexy.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the info! I'm used to carrying my phone full-time in my front pocket, but this may not work for me. OTOH, it's so cool-looking I may just have to find another way to carry it around.
What do the other cases use to wake the device when opened? Is it just a magnet to enable the sleep/wake feature?
I had the rearth wallet case for my N4 and looking to get this one for my N5 because it's one of the only one that doesn't have a clasp and looks like it's built well.
Only thing is it's out of stock until the 20th.
This is basically exactly what I was looking for! I have a similar case for my HTC One by Zenus (this one), but their case for the N5 is missing the area where you can put your bills in. This book case you mention does have this unless I am mistaken?
Another question: how hard is it to take the phone out of the case? I would like to only use the case when I'm on the road, so when I'm at work or at home I will regularly take the phone out of the case, so this should be a painless process.
Yeah it has a place for bills.

I got mine the other day but I didn't like the part the phone fits into. While it's nice the opening area for the power button also includes access to the Sim tray, I didn't like how the "lip" part was too close to the power button. Also the lip part would peel off my anker tempered glass screen protector whenever I squeezed the sides. So I replaced it with a poetic case I had.
I used a utility knife to cut it off and this Glue Dots adhesive I found at home depot.
