Hello. Is anyone else having issues with Yongzh's emulators (snesoid, gameboid...) when running them in ICS?
I get slightly poor performance and sound issues that don't manifest themselves when using Gingerbread. The same happens in Android 4.0 and 4.0.4. I've tried different ROMs too and I even tried overclocking the CPU to 1.5 GHz. Nothing helps.
I'm looking either for a fix or for some nice alternatives (some other emulators work nicely, but they're not as good).
What are you using since switching to ICS?
No kidding. That's one of the reasons the ICS update was dropped, it killed performance.
So if I read this post correctly, I guess its answering my other thread.. that I guess Yongzh's emulators are no good anymore and we should buy a new emulator off the market?

I don't know about not being good, they're still my favorite, but they perform badly in ICS for some reason and they're actually one of the main reasons I can't decide whether I want ICS or GB.
Glad I came across this thread tho.. didnt even know they had issues in ICS.. Maybe I will have to buy a newer version emulator, unless anyone knows if he is still updating for ics on slideme wasnt it?
Hey, I'd like to know if this is ROM specific. Perhaps the emulators might work smoothly in some ROMs that I haven't tried. Please post your experiences. I'd mostly like to hear about CM9 (I haven't tried it yet).
I tried Tiger Arcade and Tiger Genesis and they both work like a charm in ICS. Consider this emulators as an option.

Hey mate
that's easy , just use MD.emu , BGA.emu ... all of them are running smoothly on ICS .

I can't load up any roms with psx4droid since moving to CM7. I was reading to fix this issue in CM 6.2 you just had to flash the market fix for 6.2, as there was an issue in the build.prop.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Or if the same solution (flashing the 6.2 market fix) might even work?
I don't know enough to just start messing with files and whatnot, and don't want to break anything.
And yes, I have the right bios, and I have tried multiple roms.
Thanks!
Yes, I'm having the same problem with CM7 on my inspire4g (even tried a different kernel).
Also identical problem with snesoid.
Same here, and add to that;the game I got from gameloft are giving me trouble as well.....
sent from a terminal, in the NIGHTLANDS.........
psx4droid is pretty much a dead project. ZodTTD (of Zodiac emulators fame) put together this emu after many requests from devoted former palm users. He is focusing all his efforts on iPhone and OpenPandora ports so I wouldn't expect a GB compatible version of psx4droid in the future.
psx4droid v2 1.1.0 works for me. All earlier versions don't work. the psx4droid lite does work on GB

Awesome, yeah that was the issue haha, I got the paid v2 version and it worked fine! Sweet!
So I have an HTV EVO 4G with CM7 (2.3) and no versions of psx4droid will run Metal Gear Solid. Any ideas?
PSx4Droid works for me [CM7 2.3.4] Though make sure you have the latest version. Also not all games are compatible; another emulator worth trying is fpse; I have both installed, and some games work on one that doesn't the other. EX: FF Tactics doesn't like to run on psx, but runs fine on fpse.
I'm all about the coolest looking ROMs.lol. I'd like to stick with 2.2 because I still use the original PSX4Droid.. It's the only ****ing one I could find that works extremely well. Plus it's the only one with support for UP+LEFT, DOWN+RIGHT.. etc. At least from what I know. I haven't checked in several months, so if I'm wrong, PLEASE let me know. I can't understand why PSX4Droid worked SO well until he made a new version..and completely ****ed it up.. Makes no sense to me..
Oh ****, ANYWAY. I'm using Viper 5.0 at the moment, but lately I've been having major issues with it. It worked fantastic for quite a while, but now 90% of my apps force close, every other time someone calls and I answer it, it will lag for a few seconds, then I won't be able to hear anything they say until I completely restart my phone. After like the third time I open it, Maps will say there is no data connection, even though there is.. So I have to re-download it.. Makes me sad because I really like the ROM and would like to keep it.. But I can't stand these issues anymore. I just downloaded the NEW Viper Rom. But I thought I'd ask you guys if there is a better, more stable one.. I have used CM7 in the past, and I think I used CM9.. but once again, after a while the bugs start kicking in and drive me insane.. Not to mention when you're on a call and receive a text message your face vibrates..lol. That drove me nuts.
So... if anyone kept reading this.. Thank you first of all.lol. But what are your suggestions? I REALLY wanted to try ICS, but there is no visual voicemail That's a dealbreaker.. I barely check my voicemails as it is WITH it..lol. But if there are any newer roms, with amazing working PS1 emulators (I play a LOT of FF7), please let me know! Thanks guys!!
The Visual Voicemail is working on all ICS ROMs. They took the one from the Epic Touch ICS. If you are looking for the most customizeable options for appearance try AOKP B29.

Lulz this is my help all day long.. I love to play emulators on my phone. I use cm9 and run with the samurai kernel it has a fps uncap to 72hz and runs at 65fps =]. Overclocks to 1.5ghz stable and not warm. I play zelda on n64oid... with my playstation 3 control with sixaxis controller app off the market. I use fpse for playstation one and it runs amazingly smooth.. haven't tried any rpg games on it but crash and tekken run pretty slick at 1.5ghz. If your a gamer then the samurai kernel is a must.. but he makes em for all types of roms. Touchwiz el30 bml or mtd. Cm7,miui gb and v4 and cm9. Hope this helps.. oh and with fpse you'll need a ps bios if you don't already have one otherwise it won't work but I had mine setup and every game I downloaded played great. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!!! I really appreciate it. If Visual Voicemail is working now, I'm totally gonna give that a try first... Just to check it out. Then I'll flash another one. I don't play the PS1 too much anymore since I played FF7 for HOURS, then lost my SD card (((( I've been too upset to start again.lol.
But really, thanks guys!!
So I recently unlocked my bootloader and have been trying various roms; however, whenever I try an ICS rom, I always experience framerate lag on gameboid (with sound on). FPSE and N64oid seem to run at full speed. I've have tried overclocking as well, but I still experience the same lag. Is there anything I can do to alleviate this, or should I just go back to GB?

Thanks, I tried that and the video lag is gone, but now the audio seems very glitchy and jumpy. Is that supposed to happen?
I've noticed this as well, but haven't put any thought into it being caused by ICS. I'll play with some settings and see what I can find out.

Setting frameskip to automatic mode & 1, fixes audio lag for me and doesn't seem to affect video

B*tch please, Gameboid can't even start a game on FXP116 CM9! Please tell me what rom are you using
Anyways setting frameskip to 0 or sometimes even automatic often fixes "emulator lag" in every device that can run one (PC, PSP, etc.), at least for me.

The framerate is fixable with the frame skip, but the sound will always experience that distortion. The better your CPU and RAM, the better the sound is processed, but overall it's difficult to get rid of the sound problems.
I use a Galaxy S 4g and I still get those sound issues.

That's funny, because FXP has only released 115 CM9 for the Play so far. Expect 116 later today, though, unless you compiled one yourself.

Well the sound works perfectly fine on CM7, but on CM9 it gets very glitchy. I'm assuming it's because how much of a ram hog ICS is.

WRONG! Stock official ICS isn't actually a ram hog or battery hog, but other unofficial builds for some phone models are. For example, CM9 experiences battery drain and consumes half of the ram for Sony Xperia devices and others while it does not for some other phones, then there's the official Sony ICS beta for the Xperia devices built separately for each one, which runs smooth, and has its own problems, like broken wifi indicator.
tl;dr: If you are going to blame someone, it's the ones who built CM9 for your device, not Google, AOSP or your carrier.

But in general, ICS is more resource intensive than GB will ever be, so even stock ICS (IMO) probably wouldn't run as efficiently as say CM7. (I might be talking out my ass, but this is the conclusion I've come to from user experience)
Edit: Also, my gameboid games are starting fine on CM9
This is what I did to fix the problem.. Turn your data connection off and the emulator will run a lot smoother
is ICS, CM7 or stock the best at higher end gaming?

I've heard most people have better luck using Gederom to play certain games that would otherwise be unavailable for the kindle.

Sure, stock is the best since all games running on it. ICS from gede also not bad, my meaning the games which runing on it just play smooth than on stock ROM but some GAMELOFT games crashed, Modern Combat 3 play very well, better than on stock.

Do you know if there is a difference between gede having the Galaxy Nexus as the build.prop compared to say like Hashcode's build.prop saying Kindle Fire?
If there is a difference then im so going to gedes rom
I should recommend you this ICS rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619550
Why is it better than any other rom for gaming?
Well first of all I am using it myself. Don't have any problems.
Second, as you can see, there is a line in the thread:
Modified build.prop
Most Gameloft games working
Decreased powerconsumption
Gameloft games usually don't run on Kindle Fire. With that rom they do. I installed and played my self Real football 2012. Works like a charm!
And the last thing is that you can remove the status bar while playing or watching videos! Full screen enjoyment at its best. If you`ll install this rom, just hold the power button for like sec or 2, a window will pop up and on the down side you`ll see show/hide status bar.
I hope this helps you, since I use it myself
Also: If you haven't rooted/rotted a while ago update everything with this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
You will have latest root, FireFireFire 1.4 and TWRP installed. This way it will be easier to do stuff.
If any questions: PM me, will be glad to help!
Good luck!
EDIT: If you want also use the Hashcode's kernel. Kinda like it more than ged preintstalled kernel

This thread should actually be put into general... not into Q&A...
I've recently started building/using CM10 following these instructions: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Build_for_zeus
(only instead of ics on the repo init line, I used jellybean)
I'm assuming that should be roughly equivalent to what the FXP team produces (considering they're the ones that submit the source to CM). It seems to work fine for me.
I don't honestly use my camera very much, but what is wrong with it? I seem to be able to take pictures and they seem to be the right resolution (though I haven't done any quality comparisons) I haven't actually tried video or panorama.
I'm mainly interested in trying to add some tweaks, some of which may be Xperia Play-specific, and CM seemed like the best developer/community open source ROM to work with (though if someone else has other suggestions let me know)
The touchpads actually work, though not in the way that games expect them to is the problem - so it's really more a matter of game compatibility than functionality (and some of the others have made great strides in this area, but still not compatible with all games). I'd honestly like to try to get the Xperia Play's gamepad to be exposed to applications the same way a Bluetooth HID controller would be - I honestly think that needs to be the future - games shouldn't be written for Xperia Play or MOGA or whatever special controllers people come up with, just write it for HID controllers.
I've also thought about custom unlock methods, one of which could be entering codes on your gamepad to unlock.
A more ambitious project unless I can actually get the Android Transporter's guys' attention would be hardware accelerated Wifi screen-mirroring, which is what the Android Transporter guys did to stream from phone to phone or phone to tablet or phone to raspberry pi (they've open-sourced their raspberry pi receiver and as I understand it have plans to open source the android platform mods to be able to screencast). Basically the idea is to pull composited images from the surfaceflinger and put them through the hardware encoder (similar to what the camera does for encoding video), and stream them over Wifi according to RFC standards.
What else is wrong with CM10 that ya'll would like to see fixed? Any new feature ideas?
I'm not promising to implement anything though, I haven't been able to devote much time to android development, but thought I'd go ahead and try to share and inspire ideas and hopefully I'll be able to find more time to contribute soon.

Not really in any of those options if gaming is not as fast as in gingerbread.
Yes, I want something like yours ExtremeRom but with better performace. But I know that ICS is crap for gaming so it's just a dream
