Hi guys,
I want to buy this phone. I just want a low end phone with CM7, gps, bluetooth, wifi and good battery backup. I'm not much of gamer. So would you guys recommend this phone for a new user, or is it pretty outdated by today's standards?
I do think that this phone is outdated.
But with the cm7 rom the phone is really fast and will do all the tasks you listed.
Biggest problem with the phone in my opinion is the really small screen.
ya i only found problem in optimus me is small screen but if can manage with that then after installing cm7 it's pretty much fast
True, screen is small... But I believe screen size only affects when typing... My fix? Use a slide-support keybod as Go Keyboard, Slide-IT or Swype... Once past that "issue", I believe this device is just great!
I think lg p350 will a good choice for u

Thanks guys I'll look into it!!!
I like my p350 too, but only with CyanogenMod 7.
The stock operational system is very slow.
If you are not an advanced user, you would consider to see Samsung Galaxy Y.
Is faster and cheap too.

Which version if Froyo you have installed? V10G with Team Pecan kernel works really good for me... Will be trying the official CM7 when singer issues iron out...

Guys with wives that are not tech savvy know what I am talking about. I need something super stable for my wife's KF to keep her from wanting to buy an ipad. Are any of the ROMs super stable? I prefer ICS but will settle for GB.
I find that the CM7 Barebones ROM is incredibly stable, though volume control could be improved. It just works well and has a much better run time than the ICS ROMs I've come across, not to mention the minimalist approach. Install only what you need and nothing more.
I've also hear good things about modaco, if you want to stick with Amazon's basic layout but want Google play access.
Thanks bro. Any more opinions??
My wife doesn't really like PCs and never has but she seems really comfortable with gede ROM that I installed on her Kindle. She has been using hers almost daily now.

I will 2nd gedeROM. It is a good ICS experience. Battery life leaves a little to be desired (although I still get 15 hours of life out of it).
I will 2nd the CM7 as a solid experience with much better performance (can sleep for hours and wake up 99-100% battery) and less bugs.
I guess I just like ICS since I am willing to put up with these little inconveniences for the experience.
I loved MIUI on the HTC Desire, it was fast, stable and just worked.
However i have never heard many good things about it on the Galaxy Nexus, a lot of people say its slow and laggy. from watching most YouTube videos it does appear to be. What are people experiences with it?
The reason i ask is the ViciousMIUI V4.1 Jelly Bean Edition is supposed to be pretty fast and stable. Atleast in this video, however some comments say ". But compared to the stock Jelly Bean ROM (Vicious, Bugless, etc.) it is a lot slower and less fluid than JB. I was took forever to load and seemed kind of buggy to me."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqraqIUenOU
Just wondering if people think its worth going from stock jellybean to MIUI, i do like that everything on my phone just works at the moment, however i do miss MIUI.
Nandroid and try it then let us know.
I actually have tried MIUI on the Gnex. ICS as well as Jellybean. It is working ok, but as you say it's pretty laggy.
So if u love miui I would just try if I were you and then draw you're own conclusions. I have never tried it for a long time, so it's perfectly possible that when the rom settles it will solve the lagging issues.

I have only heard negative things from the ones who has tried MIUI. Buggy and laggy sums it up pretty much.
Heard good things used it for awhile and no problems with it. Minimal lag to me and I didn't have any bugs that bothered me.

Tried it and hated it
mainly because I don't like the UI, but it was pretty smooth and stable if that's what you're looking for.
Not recomended on the GNex...!!!
I loved MIUI on my Galaxy S i9000, in fact it was my favorite ROM on the SGS. but would not recommend it on the GNex...too laggy and you have more feature rich ROMs out there.
mmm
mmm
heard it's pretty and neat,
but kinda laggy atm in JB
OP: Why don't you just try it yourself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31621751
I did end up giving it ago myself, the build on miui.com was pretty laggy and was not totally in English.
The ViciousMIUI V4.1 build was a lot more responsive and had been totally translated from what i could see, it did'nt appear to be as fast as the stock jelly bean is on the nexus, however it did look really nice!
The double unlock screen is annoying though, its a shame you cant just disable the lock screen on MIUI if you have a swipe to unlock pattern set.
At this moment in time i'm just going to stick with the stock Jellybean rom, MIUI just doesn't perform like it did back in the 2.3 days sadly. Although it looks even more awesome and I do miss it after using it now!

Yep I agree... I was a serious MIUI fan back in my Nexus S days but MIUI on Galaxy Nexus makes me feel really bad about it. I downloaded it every week, flashed, then went back to CM. Until the last few versions (especially 2.9.14) that I feel it's getting good enough to be my daily driver :fingers-crossed:
Its nice. The newer releases are better and better. The only complaint I have is when an app is requesting root permission I have to click the dialog box like 6 times. No joke. That alone was a deal breaker for me

Miui is a full ROM. What you are complaining about is only the launcher, which can be changed like any other.

I feel in a few months it could be there, it does appear a lot better now, I think stock Jellybean really has spoiled me.
I cant help but want the Mi 2 phone Xiomi are going to release, i would expect MIUI to work perfectly on it. However i dont really want to get rid of the Nexus, plus i dont really need a new phone too!
Fingers crossed it keeps improving!

That annoyed me too actually, however i could live with it as im not running apps that need root all the time. I would really like to just have the lock pattern to unlock my phone and not some fancy lock screen too, that's probably my only other deal breaker.
I have been running RevolutionHD since new, but am starting to have enough issues and feeling like I am missing out that I want to try something new. Problem is, there are sooooo many damn options out there now, I don't even know where to start.
I know this is like asking Ford or Chevy, but what should I look into? I don't need anything flashy, but I want better battery life and something that won't trip over itself while going through normal tasks.
Thanks in advance.
i was gonna recommend AOSPA which is my dd... but you dont want anything flashy so try atom or vanir.. they are both really smooth and i got great battery life on them paired with AK kernel

Hello everybody.
I've rooted and modded the Samsung Galaxy W of my girlfriend but now i'm facing a lot of strange battery issues: the battery drains really fast and she hates it.
I've tried CM9 RC6 and SlimBean but the problem is still here. I've got no time to waste on trying 20 ROMs so i'm asking you a suggestion.
She was really excited about the stock ROM. It was fair enough for her, apart from the bloatware that couldn't be uninstalled and some random reboots and freeze.
So, i'm searching for something like that:
Great battery life
Stable and reliable ROM
Possibly CM based or AOSP
In my opinion, a CyanogenMod 7 would be great, but i can't find it for the SGW.
Could you please help me?
Thank you!

I'll wait for more suggestions before wiping and flashing again. I wanna be sure this time..

Stock one is awesome and better battery life
And if you want more ram use forfivo but battery life will be less than with stock one
What about those ones?
77ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166571
AOSP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102599
SlimICS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132748

from those 3 links i prefer aosp..and without mods..for launcher just use nova/apex..
and for my suggestion try cm9rc7..

My honest advice:
Do not consider anything except Stock ROM with Value Pack or CM9.
Its not that those other coders are not talented. But - it's like with those small, heavily tuned / modified Honda Civics driving around: Their owner / creators and other enthusiasts love them for their custom mods, but you really could/would not give such a car to your girldfirend, mother, or whatever.
sooner or later you run into problems that will never be fixed, nothing for daily usage by a non-IT-person.
With beta 6, i guess you mean RC6?
Battery lasting, the missing fm radio and a sometimes not-100%-stable camera would be the only drawbacks i see for it.
Performance and overall fluidity is at least one class over the stock rom, really remarkable.
Maybe there will be better battery performancee with CM9 in the future, as it is not really clear atm, what causes the impacts.
But i think its unlikely that it will ever reach the Stock ROM under this aspect, as the new features are simply likely to consumer more cpu cycles then before.

CM9 RC6 was actually my first choice, because a friend of mine is using it without any problem. Anyway, i've experienced the huge battery drain even with CM9 RC6.
I can give a try to CM9 RC7 but i'm wondering: wouldn't it be better to choose a ROM with the 2.x kernel?

Yes, i meant RC6, sorry.
Sadly, battery performance is crucial for my girlfriend. Anyway, i just want a "normal" battery drain; what i'm experiencing is a very massive battery drain, totally abnormal.
Would you suggest me a Stock ROM with Value Pack? Maybe it's the better choice...
for me battery drains so fast because of to many apps..just install apps only for daily use..
yeahh i can see some of us back to 2.6..
rc7 impress me..see the ss..with stock battery(old one)..

I think the same but she's just like 20 apps, Pinterest, Instagram, GoogleReader, Dolphin, GMail, and stuff like this.
Regarding your screenshot, 17% left after 10 hours is not so great.
This is her phone now:
Can i install a 2.x kernel on CM9 RC7?
like i told you before..i use my old battery and stock 3.0kernel rc7..my battery usually last no longer than 5-6hrs..
you got 16hrs..that better than mine..
if you want 2.6 kernel i think it is better to install cm9 rc2..

Even if Queen Anne's Revenge is aimed to best battery life and it's made by an italian (as me ). It's interesting...

sounds good. I had an LG Optimus L9 p769, the battery was great on that phone also, but the bootloader was locked or something.. you couldn't put custom roms on like cm. maybe you can now, but then you couldn't and I really couldn't stand the UI. and had I done more research before getting the at&t s4 I would've known the bootloader is locked on the firmware that was on my phone when I got it.. sucks.
