Useless after factory reset (not "bricked" tho) - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

did a factory reset on my rooted (zerg rush method) R800x.
everything was fine after reboot. the set up prompts for Google Acct. etc, even activated OTA & the phone and receives calls. only problem is the launcher is toast. so nothing works...
i cant find a way to get in to settings or anything so i cant install a laucher or really do anything else for that matter. i can get USB storage to work but the PC will only see the SD card. i can pull up the KB by holding the menu button and holding the home button will bring up the last used programs (but there arent any). volume rocker adjust the vol correctly. its like everything works there just isnt a launcher?
dont really know what to do here. im assuming i removed something i shouldn't have on the previous install in the quest for free space and now after a reset the phone wont work right with out that file, or somthing...
tried to "repair" the phone with the Sony tool thing and NOTHING on the Sony web site seemed to work.
is there any way to flash the stock Rom back to the phone? i dont need a custom Rom but if thats my only option im up for it. i just need to get this thing working again.
any words of advice are greatly appreciated.

figured it out. used flash tool and the file: R800x_4.0.2.E.57_Verizon.ftf
successfully flashed to 2.3.4 :victory:

Or you could just email yourself a launcher apk.

[Q] Phone not activated after activating

Hi! I just rooted and installed CM7 (stable) onto the Incredible. I tried activating the phone via the onscreen activate button and also by dialing #228, but after it says its been "activated" and to wait for at least 15 minutes to go into effect, it still isn't activated. then when i try to use the phone it tells me something BS about connecting to an operator to make a collect call.
i THINK i need to manually program and activate the phone, but i'm not getting an clear instructions on how to do it properly. can anyone here help me with this please? thanks for your time. cheers...
I would go back to the stock Rom to activate.

Reboot the phone and try again. Press *228 on the dial pad, then option 1 to reprogram and enable 3G. Although it says it takes 15 minutes, it should work instantaneously. At least, this method worked for me. Good luck.
Certain that you are entering the right credentials for the google account tied to the device?

if i go back to the stock rom and activate it (assuming it worked), what happens when i flash CM7 back onto the phone? does it still retain its activation? or will the "activated status" go away because i wiped the data/dalvik/cache?
Activation shouldn't go away unless you deactivate the phone through verizon. I've flashed different ROMs and I don't have to reactivate my phone.
cool. i'll figure out how to revert back to stock tonight. i hope there's a "how to". thanks.
Download this:
http://dougpiston.com/files/RUU/bui...and-2.15.00.07.28-hboot-0.92.0000_PB31IMG.zip
Rename it so it's just "PB31IMG.zip" (make sure your file extensions are un-hidden, so you don't inadvertently name it to "PB31IMG.zip.zip"), and make sure your SD card is FAT32.
Now boot into HBoot, and it should detect the file automatically after a few seconds and ask if you would like to apply the update. Press Vol-Up for Yes. Let it flash.
awesome. thanks! i'll give it shot tonight when i leave work.
still no dice
well... tonight i installed the stock image. i'm still getting the "please hold while we transfer your call to an external operator" after activating (whether it be via online or *228). i noticed that there wasn't even an option to activate via on-screen after installing the stock software, with the CM7 ROM it would show an activate button after rebooting.
a few minutes ago i just reflashed S-ON and reflashed the stock image. it's still doing the same thing. something is up with the phone i guess. beyond my know-how and capabilities. the main reason i put S-ON back is so the phone can be sent back to Verizon. i'm thinking its gotta be a hardware issue if i've done everything you guys have suggested.
thanks anyways, guys. its not my phone, but a friend that i was trying to do this for. makes me glad i'm with another carrier where instead of activating, i just need my SIM card. hopefully i'll have better luck with the replacement they send.
Has he talked to Verizon about the problem? A similar thing happened to me with a phone that's ESN wasn't clear (ebay - ended up getting refunded). The phone wasn't reported lost/stolen or anything?
the hasn't been reported lost/stolen. and the phone has been with the original owner.

[Q] Probably broke it...[Resolved]

So I was working on putting on a new ROM and when I went to install the PA G Apps zip it said in my recovery that I didn't have enough space in the system storage. Which was a little confusing since I had just wiped it like usual through the recovery before I do a ROM. However I was navigating the recovery since it had been a while and just check out some of the things I didn't notice that changed. Went to the Mounts and Storage area, then I guess I touched "Format /system" and when I realized that it moved to asking me if I wanted to format /system I tried to push NO but apparently I have fat fingers and still pushed yes...So now after having rebooted the phone it is stuck at the screen "Google *small unlocked Lock at the bottom*". And now I'm not sure what to do.
Any advice?
Well this is nothing serious. Just reflash your ROM or flash the new one you werd gonna flash..
P.s. formatting system is a good idea anyway before flashing a new ROM..

Well the issue is it is stuck...I let it sit for at least 5min or so and it just sat there at that same spot. Is that because I need to reflash it? I have the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, but I haven't used it as of late since I haven't needed it. If you don't mind going into detail I would appreciate it .
Should also mention if I go into the bootloader, it hangs at "Downloading..." so effectively I can't do anything to reflash my ROM or anything. And I probably should be clear that this all happened AFTER I flashed the new ROM and then remembered I needed the PA G Apps. Should have refreshed my memory with doing this sort of thing since I'm not as experienced as I use to be long ways back.

Did you actually use the right combination to go to bootloader? Because from what I understand, you simply wiped your /system clean, which is a simple matter to fix - just flash any ROM or restore any valid backup to make it work again.

Yeah, make sure you hold BOTH volume keys for bootloader. Hold only VOLUME- for Download mode as you've seen before. If you indeed held both keys but still got to Download mode, chances are you have a broken volume key.

Yep I'm dumb apparently and misjudged how the buttons were being pressed down...now on to step 2! Hmmm....
Seems like the zip for the ROM isnt in the storage anymore. How do I copy it back on from just being in fastboot mode or recovery? I'm not familiar with ADB at all. I may have figured out the problem so hold on...I think I derped and forgot that I removed the device drivers off my desktop because I wanted to fresh install them way back.
Edit2: Doing this the hard way.
OK SO I feel like a total noob, which I really am. I've never used ADB, never tried pushing files, or anything of the sort. I tried for a very long time to get the Galaxy Nexus toolkit to help me out but it REALLY didn't do ANYTHING for me. None of the options worked like I had hoped, the ONLY thing it did for me was to install the missing drivers I needed. Other than that it was utterly useless. You guys may find this funny, but I really had no idea on how to fix this even in the slightest. Even with the responses put here by some of the community.
However, with a little searching I was able to find the answers to my questions, not found here on XDA unfortunately. What I ended up doing was updating my SDK tools and learning how to open up ADB (had no idea why the adb.exe wasn't just opening for me like I assumed it would). From there I used the sideload option in my recovery to help me get my ROM flashed back on my phone. So now all is well and I can go back to being a noob who just likes to find good looking ROMS and play with them every couple months.
Thanks, my issue is now resolved.

Sgh-t989 stuck in safe mode

I had a friend of a friend ask me to help fix his phone(always booted in safe mode)
I talked him into letting me root and install a aosp based ROM on his T-Mobile sgh-t989 running on a family talk sim. I was unaware at start that he had a broken volume down button.
The broken button works occasionally, I took the phone apart and there is no damage to anything that I can tell. This not able to use volume down made recoveries and download mode difficult to get into/navigate through. (USB jig at its best!)
Anyways, stock based ROMs won't boot after Odin flash... Cool. Wanted a custom aosp ROM anyways. But the thing still boots in safe mode. I've searched all over the web for a solution. Non of the suggestions I've found work, and I believe the volume down button to be the culprit.
Is there a code level way of disabling the phone from booting in safe mode? Safe mode only runs system apps, so anything from Google play store or sideloaded apps don't show in his app drawer. I have to place apps into /system for them to be accessible for typical use. This is obviously not ideal.
Any help greatly appreciated!

[Q] com.tmobile.pr.adapt?

This app shows that it is using 17% of my battery. I have tried freezing, uninstalling, and denying root access to it, but still shows up as taking that much battery. Anyone know how to stop it from draining battery?
I was rooted on 5.0.1 using pingpong root, but don't recall that app draining any battery.
That's tmobile's root checking app, I think the only way to stop it is to disable or uninstall all the tmobile bloat, all of it.
Maybe then it will go away.
Also report and diagnostic info needs to be turned off in settings / privacy and safty.

So you're not rooted and you're having this issue? That's strange, yeah I really don't know how to get rid of it in that case. Maybe you should try downloading samsung smart switch software to your PC and use it to reset your phone, hopefully fixing the issue. Did you try that yet?
Unrooting as far as I know can't be done without doing a factory reset or flashing the stock factory image through Odin, so it's better to just try using smartswitch first. Just make sure to back up all of your data on your PC first, because I think smart switch may wipe your storage.

Yeah try using smart switch. It will take longer but it is more recommended. Also, I recommend you backup any files you have on your phone before using smartswitch because I don't remember if it wipes your storage or not.

ok, i root to unlock, then i reinstall stock firmware throw odin, reading what you say am still root, smart switch fails (cause i am root ?), how can i unroot safe ?, cause smart switch fails
I'm a little confused. So you tried smart switch and it failed? That means that you either are rooted now or were rooted at some point. If smart switch fails then the only other way is to Odin the stock firmware which will factory reset and unroot your phone. If you're familiar with Odin just download the stock tar file from the first page in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3144105
First boot into recovery pressing volume up+home+power and do a wipe data factory reset from there (assuming you have stock recovery). Then boot into download mode pressing vol down+home+power while phone is off and Flash stock through Odin and you will be factory reset and unrooted for sure as long as your device is a T-Mobile s6 edge 925T model. That should make your com.tmobile.pr.adapt battery drain go away as well.
Keep in mind that the tar file in the link is the stock 5.1.1 firmware so it will update you to 5.1.1 if you weren't already. Also this will wipe your data for sure so back that up to your PC before you do anything.
ok, i change computer, and smart switch works, how ever com.tmobile.pr.adapt still there :/
Hmm I'm really not sure after that honestly, I thought that would fix it for you. I've only had the com.tmobile issue while being rooted so I really don't know how to get rid of it without root and using titanium. Maybe someone else can weigh in and offer some advice..
TB only works to delete /remove if your rooted.
Pp.
ok, i fix it (i guess), first i reinstall firmware throw smart switch (fails on windows, so i use my mac), then i install Package Disabler (play store), and i choose all tmobile apps, including com.tmobile.pr.adapt, all with out being root, at the moment my battery improves a lot, 98% baterry on standy after 2 hours (1 % per hour), and before, like 10% per hour

Incoming calls cannot be answered or never make it to my phone.

Rooted Sprint Galaxy S6 on Lollipop 5.1.1 with Teamwin recovery
http://tiribulus.net/pix/Phone/1.png
http://tiribulus.net/pix/Phone/2.png
Sporadically lags a bit everywhere, but I cannot receive incoming calls. I use another phone to test and it rings on the calling phone several times, goes to my voicemail and THEN rings on my phone and of course can't be answered. It just hangs there all greyed out until I hang up and takes like 20 seconds for the phone app to disappear. Other times it doesn't even ring at all on my phone. I can make outgoing calls.
The Sprint support guy took me through re-provisioning the phone with some dial pad codes, he did something to the SIM card too , I've uninstalled Drupe (which has been great) and reinstalled it. Tried both when on and off the phone. No difference
Wiped both the cache partition and the davlik cache.
This started a couple days ago when the phone rebooted ITSELF without my touching it and then booted back up into an error that said "Unfortunately, NetworkSystemProvider has stopped.". Couldn't do anything. Tapping OK made it go away for half a second and it was back. A friend of mine managed to get some Sprint specific thing either disabled or yanked and the error went away. Everything seemed to be fine. I'm not sure when the phone issue started exactly or even if it's related to that situation or not. I just noticed today that someone was calling me and I couldn't answer. (I do most of my communications online and don't get that many phone calls, but the ones I do get are very important)
Oh yeah, I reseated the SIM after an error saying there wasn't one after the Sprint guy sent some info to it and that went away.
i am at total loss here. The Sprint guy of course wants to wipe the phone. That would be a monstrous drag for all the reasons you guys already know for a phone that has been working great for over a year like it is.
Please be my new hero and tell me what to do if anybody knows. I have good PC skills and SOME with Android, but this is beyond me.
Thank you SO much.
It also keeps re-sending me old txts
The Sprint store gave me a new SIM card and that didn't fix it either. Restoring a TWRP full image restore from April didn't fix it. A factory wipe in Teamwin recovery didn't fix it. Same exact symptoms no matter what I do.
Ring ring ring ring ring on the calling phone, it finally rings on mine, but is already in voicemail on the calling phone. Once in a GREAT while it will ring just a bit earlier on mine and it will flutter between being greyed out on the answer screen (all the options like speaker etc) and eventually connect the call after a second or two. Nobody I can find has ever seen anything like this. This S6 was working absolutely flawlessly for well over a year.
It also appears I am not usually getting incoming txt messages either, but I am getting only certain old ones repeatedly. Sometimes old voicemails too. It's almost more like it's a remote server issue somewhere.
I hate to say it, but it sounds like your phone is failing and will need to be replaced. But before you do that, here is a relatively easy thing to try:
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...uide-links-files-update-root-restore-t3366862
Using Odin, flash the latest firmware. You are at 5.11, the latest is 6.01. That will restore you to stock OS, take away root and TWRP, but you'll be able to restore those. You shouldn't have any data loss.
Once that is done, go to Settings and System Update and then Update PRL and Profile. See if that solves it. If it does, you can quickly Root and Recovery again.
Good luck!

TWRP (or Teamwin if you like) won't be an issue. Download Odin on your PC, download the zipped TAR file in the first post of my link. Extract the .MD5 in the zip to the same directory as Odin (you don't really have to, this is just convenient. Install the latest Samsung drivers to your PC, make sure that your computer recognizes the phone. Put the phone into Download mode. (Hold the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons at the same time.) Plug the phone into your computer. If the com light lights up in Odin, you are good to go. Flash the TAR using the AP slot in Odin.
This sounds like a lot, but it is easier to do than for me to tell you. But WAIT! In my linked post, there is a video that will walk you through it all!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv0BnfpNxEs
How easy is that? The only thing that Tim says that is no longer true is that data won't be wiped by default.
OOPS WROTE THIS BEFORE I SAW YOU REPLIED LEMME LOOK
I'm sorry man. I'm actually a seasoned PC support guy. I know I'm being a pain. I don't have muich experience with these phones though and it's been 14 months since I flashed this one. I don't know what most of that means over there.
I don't have the regular recovery. I have Teamwin. There IS an ADB side load function in there. Is that what I use in place of the regular download mode? If so, won't that leave Teamwion on the phone since that's what I'm using? Sprint won't give me another one while it's on there.
How do I know if Odin is seeing the phone? It doesn't appear to act like it knows my phone is attached to the computer. Does it have to be in download mode that I'm trying to find out how to get into here
Forgive my abject ignorance please.

Could you be holding the Volume Up button, not the Volume Down button by mistake?
Doesn't matter. If you are in TWRP and you select "Reboot" one of the options should be Download. That will do the same thing for you.
You can also install something like this (if you are rooted) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jc.rebootmanager
And one last thing. You need to have your phone in Download mode to be seen by Odin.
Oh goodness me!! I AM A MORON!!

What I don't understand is why a known good TWRP recovery from months ago didn't fix it, but an OS upgrade did. You'd think that both should work or not. Its' the same phone and a full backup from when it worked fine. Oh well. I'm just glad it did work.
X-Posed?
While I have you here. You don't happen to have a guide for installing X-Posed on this phone do you? I have the zip installed from TWRP, but when I go to install the APK from within the OS I get what you see in this screen and the guy who's guide I was following doesn't respond. It occurred to me that koop1955 might know. Thanks. Even if you don't.
