yh 4ext recovery is the best recovery around, theres way more features, great for partitioning sdcard, usb unbrick option...loads more. give it a try, well worth it
Sent from my HTC Desire
just making sure, you need to be s-off to change recovery, revolutionary is the easiest method.
and yes, despite the fact we don't expect to be using it THAT much, it's a good recovery...
Flashing recovery is a scary moment for me. I need other experience user to give advice huge benefit for upgrading recovery. I will try it if I have confident to do so.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
changing recovery is easy, especially with 4ext. just go to www.4ext.net, download the free app and let it flash recovery.
(the s-off procedure is scarier, but like a lot of things, if you follow all the instructions it's quite easy
we don't know if you're s-off...)
The usb auto detect and fix is the one that made me switch. Saved me the hassle of plugging in to my computer to run some commands just to unbrick it.

Hi, thanks for all your reply. I finally install 4ext recovery. How easy... it downloaded and installed from updater application, not even I entered recovery/fastboot etc.

Try to flash recovery again with rom manager.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
rom manager can't flash recovery. Use unrevoked to flash a permanent recovery.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks for the reply. How do I flash permanent recovery with unrevoked,?
Do I file select .img, if so where can I get .img From.
can you explain or send a link or vid where can view. This method.

Thanks for reply, but Rom manager don't work.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You can do a little search before asking, there are a lot of tutorials on how to use unrevoked.
Now I rooted my mobile using unrevoked method.
All working well.
Now I want to install custom Rom .
Now my mobile was S-on.
So,how to S-off to install custom Rom?
Or simply update a zip using custom recovery.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You don't need to S-off to install a custom rom. Zip and custom recovery will work.
If you want to S-off use AlphaRev, but make sure you know what you are doing and understand the risk.
What is the main use of S-off?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Search and you'll find out
I Read and found it.
But I can't understand fully.
If S-on means, we can not access the system fully.
Is correct?

Some what correct. If you don't know what it does, don't do it. Non-advanced users doesn't really benefit from s-off and it has the risk of damaging your device. And It's not required for just installing custom ROMs. Reboot to recovery and flash the *.zip from your SDcard, reboot and enjoy.
I would link you to the guide on how to root, but on my phone at the moment. It contains a lot of very good tips to new users on how to install custom stuff after obtaining root.
Rooted my desire yesterday S-offed and everything was working fine. I attempted to flash a custom Rom and now all I recieve in the HTC screen. I have tryed installing several roms and nothing works. I can get into the recovery with no issues. Just I cannot get into any roms. Any Magix fixes I can try? Or should I just Fastboot and start over?
Edit. Fastboot doesnt work. But I can get into the CWM Recovery. Which is also the newest version.
And you always followed installation guides for all roms carefully (like sd card) and flashed version that corresponds with your hboot?

Yup Followed everything. I have done this all on my incredible 100 times. So I am aware of the steps to get Roms going.
Wiped all user data?
I just had this briefly with a Desire PVT4, had forgotten to wipe all user data prior to flashnig ROM's...?

Fastboot just has the bootloader option. Nothing for going back to stock. And were on the Stock HBOOT.
Correction Fastboot works just I cannot use it to go to stock. Is there any quick way to get to the stock image?

I didnt know that! I shall give it a try and update on here and thank you if it works. What is Alpha Rev? A Devoloper or something?
You basically they specialize in s off, and recovery images etc. What sort of ROMs are you using? Cm7r2 is best for most Roms on the desire atm

How could you S-OFF your phone without hearing from AlphaRev?
That is a good point? But suppose you could miss it, it isn't the same site.

What do you want?
well, I rooted my HTC wildfire last week and flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 using the guidelines from cyanogenmode wiki using revolutionary. but now I want to go the stock ROM and want my device unrooted and I don't want the revolutionary bootloader or clockwork recovery. I want my phone to be good as new. how can I do that? and I don't know if this is important but I had s-off even before I used revolutionary and my android version was something like 2.2.1.405.7 and i have a backup soon after using revolutionary ,before rooting and before
flashing cm 7. and can I use the backup to go back to stock ROM and if I can do I need to clear all data and cache just like I did before flashing cm7? and thanks in advance.

Good luck
I did that but...
thanks for the info. I followed the instructions ran the Ruu and updated hboot. but now whenever I boot to the bootloader it searches for some file and shows something like PC49DIAG not found and when I try recovery it shows a picture of a phone with a red triangle.nothing happens. what can I do about the missing file and stock recovery?
There is no missing file, the diag is something you place on your SD to open a menu, its not needed unless you are using an xtc clip I think.
The recovery has been reset back to stock recovery if you press volume up and power on that red triangle screen, I think that's the combination to take you into stock recovery.

Thanks . I opened recovery menu. But it showed at the bottom "E: Can't open/cache/recovery/command". Is it something I should be worried about?

The file might be corrupt.Download the RUU(http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Buzz) and try again.
If that doesn't work.Extract the recovery(recovery.img)from RUU.
If that doesn't work either, try it through ADB.
Good luck :good:
Thanks but I only wanted to know if it will pose any problem

Superwipe is a good idea so I'm glad your @ least doing this, it may be easier to help if you give more info, is this happening from the very first custom rom, after root? What method did you use to root? Can you write down everything on bootloader screen (mostly want to know ship soff or eng soff) can you name your recovery? Can you name the roms you have tried?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Glad U're helping me sir. This problem is there from the day I rooted and installed my first rom cyanogen mod 7 Actually mine is ship s- off, I used the wiki.cyanogen g2rooting guide and another one for getting sd card golden. First I used clockwork mod recovery now I'm using the latest in 4ext recovery. Now I'm currently using andromadus mimicry 1.5.0 its working perfectly with many softwares until I restart if I do 'hot reboot' no problem occurs
These are the list of roms I tried and problem starts wen I restart or switch off my mobile and then switch on:
1.andromadus audacity beta5
2.cyanogen mod rc9.0
3.Android_SpeedDaemon_Fantasia_v1.0.0_vision
4. G2slim1.6
5. MikRunny-v1.0-DeOdex-signed
6. RCMix.Energized.7.26.2012.Fixed.Kernel_Ver2
7. Strawmetal-1.Mi.V2.0
8. sensewich1
And many others too
Plz help!
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Well you are best to get true s-off with an engineering spl. I assume you either missed a step in the guide you followed or you went with the official htc unlocked bootloader. Either way you can fix this, and I suggest you do
Pretty much you need to relock the bootloader, then downgrade, reroot and flash the eng hboot along with everything else.
The best guides to follow to root and soff are
Cyanogen wiki
Xda wiki
Strawmetals pdf guide.
You can google search these easy or if I get a minute then ill link you. But first you need to relock your bootloader
I believe it is something like
Fastboot oem lock bootloader
I can't recall of hand but nipqer has a guide on this
If I get some time ill get you links, but for now just search a bit and read up, good luck!

Thank u Sir will tell u....

Sir Plz get niqper bootloader unlock guide link
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Sir can I use this for re locking bootloader?
www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Just boot into fastboot mode
Type fastboot devices, if you see yours then proceed
fastboot oem lock
Now do
fastboot reboot-bootloader
This should bring you back to hboot, if it says ship s-on then your good and you can proceed to root and gain true s-off
If you continue to have trouble log onto freenode irc #g2root, just google it if you can't find it, there is a link in the xda wiki for rooting the vision
