bought another G2 because mine broke. my old one i rooted with visionary, had S-OFF, but none of the OTAs. i know there have been other newer methods of rooting since when i first rooted back in 2010.
anyway, i found the HTC Vision guide here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD).
just wondering if its still the most current method to root or is there anything newer?
my phone info:
baseband
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
kernel
2.6.32.17-g9ab3677
[email protected] #1
build number
1.22.531.8 CL277427 release-keys
would i need to downgrade? thanks.
That's the one I used to root my G2 back in January but I'm not sure if there's anything newer. If you have Gingerbread then yes you have to downgrade to Froyo and then root.
the version of the android on this phone is 2.2 still, so i guess no downgrading.. good to know
Well actually I think you do still need to downgrade, there was more than one version of froyo, feel free to try without and if it fails then downgrade, really its less than 5min to go through the downgrade process so no big deal

Hi Guys.
I have the Asian HTC Desire from Taiwan.
Specs:
Firmware version 2.1-update1
Baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Kernel version 2.6.29-c8d11160
[email protected]#1
Build number 1.20.751.5 CL171460 release-keys
Software number 1.20.751.5
HBOOT 0.80.000
What I want to do is root the phone and apply a modded version of the new Froyo.
I dont want to use the OTA to apply Froyo as I want to still maintain root and its been established that updating though the OTA looses these privelages [for the time being]. ... still want to be able to apply different mods on the Asian device.
From my understanding, all I have to do is simply root the device.
I have come across 2 methods to do this, but now thoroughly confused.
First, the use of a gold card to 'debrand' and then flashing the root
Second, using the Unrevoked method .. which seems an easier way.
Again, I only want to root the phone so that I can apply a custom-made rom.
Which method should I use... goldcard method or Unrevoked method?
Any advice much appreciated.
Unrevoked. Less things could go wrong
Although I used the goldcard method the first time I rooted.
Yeah, thats what I was thinking, but I hear that this rom is technically 'branded'... even though it is officially 'generic'.
Does using the Unrevoked method also work, regardless of whether the phone is 'branded' or not?
Cheers.
Hi guys.. I am new to the community. I have got a HTC desire and I wanna root it but I dont understand the whole root and modding stuff. So can someone pls explain it to me? Like whats the difference between rooting/ modding/ gold card? So to do some thing wat should I do first??
Step1--Goldcard?
Step2--Root??
Step3--Mod??
I read through the tutorial but there was too much info I dint understand. So can someone temme wat you did first or the steps you followed while rooting or modding your Desire? And which mod is good?? Thanks for helping
Edit- I have the Froyo OTA update
First off, why do you wanna root it?
Secondly, at this second, you can't root your phone due to the HBOOT. Once unrEVOked is back up this will sort it out. There is a way of downgrading your Desire to a lower HBOOT that can be rooted but if you're a n00b then it's probably best to either leave it or read a LOT until you're confident enough to try it.
Thirdly, a Gold card is needed if you want to flash a ROM other than the one that came with your Desire. E.g. I've got a SIM free Desire so I can only install official ROMs with an x.xx.405.x build number. If, for some stupid reason, I wanted to flash an operator specific ROM I'd need to use a Gold card. To check what you've got go to Settings>About phone>Software information
Thanks mate.. rooted my desire with unrevoked

Didn't fancy answering my questions then?
Hi
My Desire is rooted with unrevoked. Can I somehow backup my stock rom? I did nandroid backup and titanium but that is another story. I want to backup my stock rom because of warranty. On shiped-roms there isn't my RUU available. Also how do I know that RUU is for SLCD?
This is my version : SLCD
baseband version : 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
kernel version : 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c [email protected]#1
build number : 2.29.404.2 CL263770
I'm guessing you made a typo and you're on 2.29.405.2?
If so, just download the RUU for that version and you're sorted
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
OR (if not working)

I do not understand too good this. In menu-settings-about phone-software information is next :
build number: 2.29.405.2 CL263770 release-keys
software number : 2.29.405.2
That doesnt match with my data in previous post. Is this because I rooted my phone?
No, it means you made a mistake in your previous post
Lol, I really did wrote down all specs before doing anything to my phone and doubleckecked. And backup. On two microsd cards. But It must be that. Anyhow thanx for links. I am now in peace.
Hi there,
I want to put the following RRU back onto my HTC Desire (back to it's original state from T-Mobile)
RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.15.110.11_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122755
However i am currently on HBOOT 0.80
Do i need HBOOT 0.75 for this RRU? & if so how do i downgrade?
Regards
Phil
Use this one instead...
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
It's still a T-Mobile stock ROM but newer so will be fine
Thats the one i'm on now, but i want to downgrade to...
RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.15.110.11_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122755
As i am not getting the T-Mobile Andriod 2.2 update when i check for updates
Are you not on 2.2 already?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
No, i want to go from this...
Firmware Version
2.1-update1
Baseband Version
32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Kernal Version
2.6.29-54b7033a
[email protected] #1
Build Number
1.21.110.4 CL175581 release-keys
Software Number
1.21.110.4
Browser Version
Webkit 3.1
Back to my original version when i got the phone which is...
Firmware Version
2.1-update1
Baseband Version
32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
Kernal Version
2.6.29-3cb3dfbf
Build Number
1.15.110.11 CL155070 release-keys
Software Number
1.15.110.11
Browser Version
Webkit 3.1
So i need the RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.15.110.11_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122755 but i can't run this on HBOOT 0.80
I want to go back to how my phone was originally so i can then recieve the T Mobile Andriod 2.2 update.
I think there is a guide in the dev section. If not a quick Google will work.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Tried Google, will have a look around, was hoping someone could help me on this forum, if you find the guide and link would be good
Thanks Phil
Have already followed
[HOW-TO] downgrade HBOOT 0.92 to 0.80 again
But i want to use RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.15.110.11_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122755
Which HBOOT version is needed for this RRU?
I found this guide on how to downgrade. You need to scroll down a bit.

Would be easier if it was in plain English! lol
Oh right I think well it probably doesn't get any simpler

Why do you want to go back? There's no benefit in doing so and T-Mobile don't need it back to 'how you got it' if you're returning it to them. So long as its on their FW they'd be fine
I want to go back so i can recieve the T Mobile Andriod 2.2 over the air update
you won't get it from being on 1.15...their sequential, you need 1.15 to 1.21 and 1.21 to get 2.2...I think it's been pulled at the moment though due to it having German apps
I thought it might be why i'm not recieving the 2.2 update. I have just rang T-Mobile and they said they will push it out to me. They release it according to when your phone was manufactured and said it could take up to a week from today, so will see what happens.
Before T Mobile released 2.2 (couldn't wait because they were taking too long! I rooted and went onto the...
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
I was then able to save apps to the SD card but i lost my Wi-Fi just kept saying Wi-Fi error.
So i downgraded and went back to...
RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed
But have yet to recieve the T Mobile 2.2 update, which will now hopefully be this week sometime so hopefully i can save to sd card again and still have wi-fi working
Yea eddyos is right they might have pulled it. Try taking your simcard out and changing the date and going to settings about phone then check for software updates and see if that works. If not I'm sure there will be a manual ota update somewhere.

There's every chance the update is on the HTC server, someone could run that linux script that checks the server for updates (possibly - I don't know where it is on here)
Hi there,
I'm completely new to rooting and I want to know if there's a way of reverting back to what I'm currently using before I start to do anything with my Desire which is according to my software info screen:
Android version
2.2
Baseband version
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Build number
2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0
htc-kernel(at symbol)and18-2 #1
Software number
2.12.110.4
And as far as i can work out my T-Mobile Desire is a SLCD with PVT-4 with 2.2 installed. Also i dunno if this helps at all but its now unlock since i got a code from T-Mobile to unlock it.
There are ruu files all around this forum there are the key to a fully unrooted desire

There isn't, however, one for your ROM so it's a risk you take rooting that phone
After rooting, you can do a nandroidbackup, so you can go back to your original rom.

It'd still be rooted so wouldn't be stock
Thanks Eddy for the the straight answer, I suppose I'm gonna give it a little bit more thought first before i do anything and thanks again!
I updated my phone to 1.82.666 and I can't root anymore... anyway how to? I need permroot for Titanium backup... Is there anyway to permroot at this or do I need to downgrade (last resort)?? Is there an updated VISIONary? I still have r14
Thanks

downgrade
I think you need to downgrade
Any official ROM version 1.72 or later is not yeet rootable. You will need to downgrade.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#December_2010_DZ_OTA_1.72_Update
Thanks... so I do need to downgrade... the HTC stocks app is sucking up my data plan dry and I don't even use it... so I really need TB to freeze it... it uses up about 20 megs a day... I already disabled it sync and all, but still no effect... still uses up all my data...

A lot of the new froyo roms (i.e virtuous)are based off 1.85, i don't see why you have to wait ..just sayin

Tried to downgrade, but keep getting a Model ID error, so I can't downgrade... was doing the downgrade instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261 but I'm stuck at step 11, which is installing that lower version rom.... tried to create goldcard, still no... was reading further and maybe a little info should help
Bought phone, rooted through visionary... and that's it... no s-off, no supercid, etc... so I guess I'm screwed (or stuck with this) until they get a workaround about this... am I right? or can I still downgrade?
Whoa, I think I was able to downgrade using the official 1.34 update posted here on XDA... I'm not sure if I can root and s-off, but I'd do my best to see if I can....
Android version:
2.2
Baseband:
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.18_M3
Kernel:
2.6.32.21 Oct 18 2010
Build:
1.34.66.1
eff yeah, I think I got root and s-off (I don't care about sim unlock, I "unlocked" my phone way back already, where I had to pay and didn't know I can unlock this for free)
gotta check it out now, will report back
** what I did, well, I did the tutorials, and failed.... did a little bit of research and said that I can "probably" downgrade by "updating" to an older version,... so I went ahead and tried,.. I downloaded the 1.34 posted here at XDA, and installed it on the PC.. it went through it's thing... phone restarded like new, went through the setup, checked "about phone" and I did downgrade to 1.34... so now, not wasting anytime did the rooting and s-off process.... WIN!

Oh BTW, this was from 1.84.666.1 down to 1.34.666.1
well, accidentally updated to 1.84, when I had 1.72 and was able to root using VISIONary+....
now, I'm at 1.34 and can't wait to check out other ROMS, heh
sorry, I now feel I kinda spammed this thread on my own
So, it sounds like you just edited your DZs version number using misc_version and installed this?

Yes, I suspect that allowed me to downgrade... although installing through SD didn't work, the pc update worked to downgrade
