For some reason my phone doesn't work well with Faux and ktoonez kernels anymore. It used to work fine with those two, but now, with Faux's kernel I lose screen responsiveness after waking the screen, and with ktoonez kernel I get lag spikes. I end up having to reflash the rom and using the stock kernels included in them..
Any idea as to why this is happening?
Some phones just don't get along with certain mods. Like the saying goes, YMMV.
How unfortunate... they worked well before, but not now :| oh well.........
Are you using ICS or job base ROM?

Before you flash new rom make sure you wipe cache/system/factory reset.
I had some problems and apperantly some stuff can be left behind and cause problems, unless you are really thorough.

Awesome! I have been using your kernel's on my Atrix for over a year...happy to see you working with the Galaxy III.
Nice. Hopefully this will cut down on all the "where faux kernel at???" posts.

So glad to see you here Faux Can't wait for your amazing dev!
Just flashed it on my ATT SIII running AOKP by Task650 & ktoonsez.
Seems to work fine.
Took a couple reboots before sleep was working but that is common IMO, with custom kernel flashing.
Got a few extra points on worthless AnTuTu scores.
MTE is working.
Thanks!
hey what did u do yo make it work okay.I flashed and rebooted a few imes but frequency doesnt go over 1.1Ghz even though i have it set to 1.8.Also i have ondemand/cfq but nothing i do helps bring the frequency higher.
I checked system tunner and its a 1.8 and also force all cpu online.Im pretty much out of ideas to try

Thanks mate, I have posted this in the AT&T Directory
Thanks for the awesome kernel. Working flawlessly on ktoonsez & task's AOKP ROM. this is so much better than stock!!

So far so good. Went from 6000 on antutu to 7000-7100 on benchmark for what its worth. Keep up the good work!
hey im running this on my phone with cm9 and the battery life is incredible. my gfs phone is running the same cm9 build but when i try to flash the kernel its stuck on reboot, anyone else get stuck on a reboot and able to fix it? wiped cache and davlick cache

Did you make a nandroid backup? Hopefully you did. Just boot into recovery restore the backup and try again.
i tried about 4 times, is there another way to flash that the phone might be more accepting of, maybe the sgs flasher app?
What version of cwm? Could have an older version, maybe?

Hey faux. Loved your kernel on the skyrocket. Curious if you're considering making one for touchwiz roms? I'd he veery happy if you were.

Hi,
My name is Adeel and I recently upgraded from a Google Nexus One to a used Samsung Galaxy S2X, which I really love. It's running the Darkside ROM, which is alright but nothing too fancy. One thing I did notice was that when i turn the phone off, it doesn't turn off (the soft keys stay lit, and I have to remove the battery and turn the phone on to turn it back on) which is weird, but i'm sure it's a glitch in the ROM.
Anyways, flashing different ROMs is just a hobby of mine, something I like to do in my free time. Since I'm not familiar with any ROMs in the development section, I would like your opinions on what is the most stable ROM (good battery life, and with the least issues). I have heard the new Jellybean ROM is good ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852105 ). What are your thoughts on that? Any help would be appreciated to get me started because this phone was already rooted, and I don't really want to brick the phone doing any bad flashing. I was very comfortable flashing on the Nexus One though.
Thanks a lot!
uh oh - I can't even boot into recovery. When i reboot into recovery, the screen turns black and the soft keys stay lit... (no sd-card in the phone). Any help?
If you hold the power button for long enought the phone will restart. That way you don't have to do the batt pull.
For roms, I'm using darkside right now and don't have that problem; but I was using Infamous before and its really good too.

I used Darkside v8 as well, and never had the problems you have with the buttons' lights.
Right now I'm on Jedi Mind Trick v7 and I think it's as good if not better than Darkside. It's veeery smooth and veeeery fast
Edit: about the boot problem: wipe cache. I think it's a common problem with darkside (at least older versions)

JB is alright but not quite there yet. Many users are experiencing random reboots and SODs (sleep of deaths, when the phone goes into sleep and doesn't want to wake back up). On top of all of that, I usually experience a lockscreen freeze...
Most stable would probably be CM9 Final/Stable.
And most stable TW based ROM (at least for me) was Jedi Mind Trick v7.

What ive learned since i started flashing is to flash them all and see which one works best for you and ur phone. Just because a rom works very well on an s2 doesnt mean it'll be the same for another s2.
That being said... The best performance ive had is with darkside rom and infamous. Juggernaut v5 is actually very good too but its GB and updates have halted a long time ago.
Try them out and good luck.

I rooted and flashed my SGS3 yesterday to Kyan(?) because it looked like the most robust build.. it's nice but the data just didn't work so i had to revert back to original for now..
So it got me thinking.. which ROM do you recommend and why? and... Any idea how to fix the data issue?
AOKP because its nearly perfect and I haven't had any issues with it.

Second vote for aokp. Nearly flawless as is and updates are coming frequently also. Very smooth and buttery.... combined with ktoonzes kernel you can't get much better IMHO....

JB ROMs are not yet fully baked (Netflix doesn't work, screen flickering, etc.etc.), and other random annoyances depending on the particular ROM in question.
As a result, I've decided to stick with ICS ROM's for now and Ariel 2.0.4 seems to be about the cream of the crop from a combined feature/function perspective.
Just my $.02

That's good to know, but it doesn't change the fact that there are typically little quirks and wonky parts of JB ROMs that keep me from using one as a daily driver, hence my endorsing an ICS ROM below.
Netflix was just an example of what had been a common problem among early JB ROMs, and while it's cool that's been fixed, there are invariably other easter eggs that don't seem to exist in ICS custom ROMs, I guess is the point I was trying to make.
Of course, to each their own; what might be important to me might not be to the next person, but that's what makes the ability to flash any/all ROMs and then nandroid back if you don't like them, so cool.

I'm on KyanROM and has been good so far. Just put Ktoonsez kernel on coming from Faux so will be testing that combo out today

I use Kyan ROM because it is rock solid stable, has good battery life, takes away all of the bloat and lets me add back stock apps via CWM if wanted. I am waiting to go to an AOKP 4.0.4/4.1.1 build such as Task and Ktoonz or Cyangenmod. However, they all have bugs and I have very little tolerance for technology that does not cooperate with my expectations. So until the bugs are worked out, Kyan ROM for me.
which rom is the fastest without overclocking? I found that quadrant scores have been the best on stock. I've tried it on CM9, CM10 and kyan, but they all produce low scores. GTA 3 gets laggy on CM10 too, gonna try it on stock and see how it performs.
Rooted stock. ( debloated )
Tried aokp and cm10 both fantastic roms but auto brightness was a bit flaky on both so I can back to stock.

excuse me for my noob question, but how do you debloat stock rom?
Go in with a root enable file explorer and remove all the stock and carrier added apps that you don't want/don't use. You can also find different flashable zips that fix and/or enable/disable certain "features", such as the continuous wifi connected notification, enable native tethering, etc. A lot, if not all, of the customized stock roms include these and others by default. I'm actually downloading Ariel right now to try it out as it seems to have a lot of this done already.
I vote aokp, rock solid stable, and extremely smooth.
You should really try a cm based jellybean ROM, if you haven't yet, you'll be amazed by how fast and smooth it is compared to stock.
Ariel is the best stock rom nothing compares to it, its bug free free has aroma installer, where you can choose what mods you want to flash in cwm and has more features than any other stock rom hands down the best.

Hello all. I have recently flashed AOKP and I am loving it. My only problem is that the phone gets really hot. And not just on this ROM but on anything other than full stock. Why is this? Is there a fix? My friend told me that installing a custom kernel can help. Is there any truth to that? Thank you.

It depends on what you're doing. Of course using alot of apps or playing games will cause the cpu to run at full speed. Its going to get warm.
No just from texting or using the web simple things
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Its a known issue on the GS3.
Don't worry about it too much.
The processor is made to handle heat, and it doesn't come close to failing from heat.
If it really bugs you, you can always try a custom kernel and undervolt and under clock to see how it runs.
My GS3 runs extremely hot playing games, (Real Racing 3 to be exact, and it ran so hot I honestly thought the motherboard would start melting lol) I flashed a custom kernel, undervolted and it runs much much cooler now.
But yeah don't worry about it too much
It was made for that

I would try flashing the KT kernel or any other custom kernel u may prefer and see how it runs with that kernel stock settings and then tweak yo or like from there. Keep in mind all phones are different so some ones else's set up or settings may not work the same for u

Everytime I use either install merhod, full wipe, no wipe it freezes on initial bootup everytime I choose the peanutbutta jelly kernel or trinity kernel. Is this due to the fact that they arent for the tmobile version? I know the pbj is for the verizon version and the trinity kernel I havent even seen since on any note 2 variation. Has anybody gotten the morphic/trinity kernel to work with tweaked 2.0?

As kintwofan and deeznutz1977 said - all kernels included are TMo kernels. I seem to have a lucky phone in that I have had no issues w/ either kernel, but how these things are handled vary from phone to phone. If nothing else, you can choose the stock kernel (which to be honest has always been fine in my experience), or skip the kernel install and use whatever kernel you are currently running.
Appreciate it guys. I just wanted to see if others have had success getting trinity to boot. Wjat is the reasin why it takes 10 battery pul I s and a little luck for it to boot if you dont m I nd me asking?

This is just a guess, but the kernels likely have some cpu/voltage tweaks built in, and for whatever reason when combined with the natural variability in hardware quality you begin to see some differentiation in experiences, where some have it run fine and others don't.
Appreciate it rhanks for the help and the aweaome work you do to better the note 2
