Hello all,
I recently updated to Wildchild's Version 6 Jellybean Rom using the instructions in the OP and it has been running great. However, whenever I reset the flash counter using the Triangle Away (version 1.90) app that comes with the ROM, when I reboot my phone, the counter goes to 1.
Resetting the counter in Triangle Away and then verifying right after will show '0', but as soon as I reboot my phone, the flash counter shows '1'. Is anyone else having this issue?
Not sure but triangle away isn't working for me either, my phone says modified somewhere in settings. I have to Odin to stock to reset that. Maybe you have to the same.

Use triangle away on a stock rooted Rom. Then use cwm to flash your Rom of choice. Cwm (probably twrp, as well) don't trip the flash counter when flashing roms

I have a question about Triangle Away, I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 AT&T SGH-I317 model, I just installed CF-Auto-Root for my first time, and immediately installed Triangle Away from the Google Play Store after.
I rebooted into the "special mode" and did Volume Up to reset counter and status.
This is what is listed after a reboot into special mode again
Device: SGH-I317
Flash counter: 1
Binary status: custom
Upon rebooting back into Android, TriangleAway app says:
Current status cannot be determined. Need to reboot into a special bootmade tap Reset flash counter.
Which I did.
Is this how it should be? Did Triangle Away work? Aside from flashing a completely STOCK nonroot ROM, is there any additional steps required if I needed to exchange for a warranty?
That's what i got also until i installed persues kernal. Now i get this:

So you had to install the persues kernel before it displayed that?
May I ask why you did this?
go into download mode press volume up
and you should see your flash count. Because Triangle Away didnt gave me that exact comment.
everytime you reboot your flash counter will say 1 even when you reset it...you have to set triangle away to reset the counter on each bootup. it's all in chainfire's cf rooting thread in OG development section

Figure anything out?
I understand samsung won't take a rooted phone. They consider it broken. So how do I root it back to stock? I done a couple flashes, I've used Triangle away to reset the counter and superuser which was provided on another thread. Has anyone here done a warranty replacement successfully?
Yes not that hard odin back to stock and reset counter.

I've found that even after flashing a stock rom I have to do a factory reset to get back to unmodified status. When I say factory reset, I don't mean from the settings menu, that doesn't do it for me, you have to do it from stock recovery.
what stock recovery and stock rom should I use? Just use Odin?

- Flash MrRobinsons root66 image and flash using ODIN.
- Once flashed, you can use triangle away app and reset the counter.
- Once the counter is reset you can unroot the device from SU menu.
- Reboot and perform a factory reset.
- At this stage the custom binary counter should show Official.
- If the device status still shows modifed, you can flash original stock ROM using ODIN.

Actually if you have stock recovery, reset the counter first with triangle away, then Odin stock mb4. If you Odin first you lose root, which triangle away needs to work, so you are SOL.
If you dont have stock recovery, Odin mrRobinsons pre rooted mb4, the triangle away, then the stock non rooted mb4.
After both make sure you factory reset to remove any remaining apps that needed root, ie: SuperSU, titanium back up...

I purchased Triangle Away from Google Play. Tried to reset the counter from 1 to 0 but each time I go to Triangle Away there is no Current Status shown. I go back to the reset counter screen and the counter is still 1.
Can anyone tell me how to do this properly or is the counter supposed to be 1?
Thanks

Yes it will keep showing the count at 1 as long as you have a custom recovery. If you read the developers thread it has been mentioned that in order to keep bit at zero you'll need to go back to stock recovery and ROM.

But according to him, he have used CF auto root, so recovery should be stock only unless he flashed some extra custom stuff.
@xLeonardo
How you checking flash counter, with Triangle away? then it will show you 1
just put device in download mode and check what is there for custom binary download
If it is 'No' then your counter is alrady reset.
Also you need to reboot device once normally after using triangle away, then after 10 min check counter.
If still it is 1 then as above said by bushako, check your recovery and kernel both are stock.
I bought triangle away months ago, it used to work on my rooted device. But the last 1 or 2 update of samsung stock rom has rendered this app useless. Now my note2 stays as modified.
I guess the last firmware update has fixed the loophole this app is using.

Not really. Just a few days ago I tried triangle away with Samsung's stock ROM xxdmc3 and it successfully set it to Binary Count 0. Provided the recovery is stock. I didn't really buy triangle away, I just downloaded it from xda but I don't think it makes a difference as they are the same version.

@bushako
Agree
There is nothing wrong with application with any version, i think previous poster saying about status : modified not counter.
@BratPAQ
if so, that is not a big issue, there is already some tricks are there, and last option wiping will reset to official.

Yeah I didn't flash anything else. Recovery is stock.
Yeah I've been checking with Triangle Away. Checked with download mode and it says No, so I'm guessing all is fine now.
Just wondering why on the Triangle Away app it doesn't show my current status?
Set Triangle Away to auto reset the counter at reboot and you should be good to go.
OK ... Running Jedi X custom rom, need to go back to full stock and get rid of the dreaded "! triangle !"
I downloaded Triangle Away
I successfully restored factory recovery via odin
I ran triangle away
When I go into download mode I still have the triangle.
What step am I missing?
Do I need to first get rid of the custom rom and/or kernel?
Do I need to UNROOT?
Do I need to load stock firmware?
I had done this once before a few months ago but don't remember what step I am missing this time.
Thanks.
Edit:
Answerimg my own question it seems I need to load full stock firmware but at that point how can I run triangle away?
I guess what I need is the "ORDER" to run the various items to get back to "clean system" with no "triangle"
You will always have a triangle in download mode what you're interested in is the flash count in the top left and the device status

Gotcha. The order is triangle away then stock firmware
You need root for triangle away that's why you do it first. Then usually you'll need a factory reset from stock recovery to finish it all off

I used mobile odin and flashed the stock firmware from sammobile and it work perfectly for me.
Sent From Land Of Ooo. Using a Jedi Mastered Note 2.
"Where you think she at when she ain't with you?"...
I went through the steps (triangle away, loaded stock firmware from Sammobile) and my download mode now reads:
Custom Binary Download: Yes (1 counts) <-The 1 doesn't seem right
Custom Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Should it still say "1 counts?" Or do I need to reroot, run triangle away again and unroot now that I have stock firmware loaded?
Thanks.
Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S3 T999L from craigslist and wanted to unlock it to send it overseas. My sister had a T-Mobile account so I had her contact the representative and request it. They said it would happen within 24 hours. Anyway, since I didn't have much time, I rooted it using "Method 1 - The Root66 Way" through Odin in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370981
Today, T-Mobile gave me an unlock code but when I used it, it didn't work. My guess is that it's because the phone is rooted. Is there a way to go back to it being unrooted so I can use the unlock code?
Thanks in advance
Open SuperSU app and select full unroot. Though I doubt its whats keeping you from getting unlocked. Worth a try though.

Hey Doc,
Thanks for all the guides etc. I was able to fully unroot it but when I try to look for updates, it says that phone has been modified... how does one fix that?
If its stock, factory reset.
Or Odin flash the firmware.

Also, is there a way to reset the binary flash counter AFTER the unrooting?
and is there a way to root it again after it has been unrooted?
much thanks and appreciation

No you must be rooted to use Triangle Away.
Yes there are several options to root and you can just reroot using any one. Shouldn't be any need to wipe anything if you want to use root66 again.

Either Triangle away is not working properly or I'm doing something wrong but I used your 1st method to revert back and unroot using the stock and root file, kernel and recovery files through Odin and used Triangle away at the end. It stated that counter is 0, then I unrooted from SU app and restarted but the counter read 1 after restart.
I'm not sure what's going on.
Make sure you are flashing the stock SECURE Kernel and stock recovery, then TA. Then unroot.
And you may actually want to try running triangle away, reboot download, then if the counter is zero, Odin flash the official firmware.

ok so this time I re-rooted using recovery method and then UNrooted using the recovery method listed by you.
Reboot into CWM or TWRP Recovery
Flash PureStock Rom
Flash the unmodified, Secure UVAMB7 Kernel
Flash Stock UVAMB7 Recovery
Next, if you want to wipe everything but your internal SD Card, Factory Reset before rebooting.
If you want a 100% clean, out of the box type device, reboot Recovery.
This should take you into the stock recovery you just flashed. Now Factory Reset.
Reboot Phone
(Last chance to run Triangle Away!)
Open SuperUser/SuperSU (app)
Find and select the option to Permanantly Unroot.
Reboot
Done!!!

After using TA to reset counter and after unrooting by SU, i restarted and then checked binary counter in downloading mode and it read 1... why is that? so frustrating....
the reason I want to do this is because I have an unlock code but it won't work... there's no other explanation as to why the unlock code from TMOBILE wouldn't work other than this counter issue...
It could be the wrong unlock code. Ive heard of more than a few people having to call back a few times. I was able to unlock with a count of about 8 or so. Granted I wasnt using a code, but I dont see this as being the cause. But to be sure, try this:
Triangle Away. (Close/reopen the apo to make sure it worked) then pull the battery. Reboot directly to download mode. Make sure the counter is 0. Flash the official firmware released yesterday.
No idea why its not working for you. Ive had several confirmations that it did work before. Keep in mind that if you have a custom recovery or kernel, every time you boot up the phone it will retrip the counter to 1. So be careful your not booting up w/ cwm or twrp installed.
