Huge problem no drive to transfer no android - HTC One X

Hey guys I got this huge problem...
I was getting lots of errors in the normal usage of my htc, after some updates.
So then i decided to use a custom ROM and it started ok but then crashed and rebooted.
After that I wiped the info from the sd card, but accidentaly erased all of it.
So now I just stay in the HTC screen, not able to transfer files into the sd card, the phone can start still in the clockworkmod window but I dont know how to turn the storage on.
Can you help me here? I just need to transfer files to the sd card, and it doedn't let me.
Windows 7 x64, it says k drive removable disk, drivers installed but its grayed out and won't let me open it. says it is not ready.
And when you click it it says please insert a disk in drive K:
what can i do?

In clockwork, click mounts and storage, then click mount usb storage, does that help?
Will it let you format the storage? If so that will be good enough for you to copy a rom across
If it doest, flashing an Ruu will definitely put everything back to how it was.

Mount sd card in cwm
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

You will need CWM 5.8.4.0 or newer.

Won't let me do anything you suggested.
results:
mount usb storage: E: Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
formatting does work, it formats all cache, data, sdcard and system properly.
mount /sdcard gives the same result as usb storage.
and its version 5.8.2.7
Thanks, I hope something else could be done =S

Use this latest CWM Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24738635&postcount=1
5.8.2.7 is outdated version.

Wish I could, now the battery is dead as well, I'm leaving it to recharge during the night, I hope it works.
Thanks a lot guys, and I wish someone has another solution =S I'm getting desperate here

You don't need another solution, you need cwm 5.8.4.0 or newer as posted above.

Yes but as I just said... it won't let me charge the phone, so installing that now is not possible, I already tried, I'm now trying to charge it but since the version I have installed is bugged it won't allow charge to go into the battery. that's why I asked for another solution, not that it was wrong.
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear, after I manage to charge it I think I can go from installing the clockwork then mounting the sd and finally flashing the RUU as sugested, but right now I can't even charge the phone.

There was a thread in this section somewhere with a solution to force the phone to charge (I think it was a script using adb which would force the phone to keep rebooting so it would charge a tiny bit each time until hours later it got to a reasonable charge), but you'll need to search because I can't find it at the minute. It was from a few months ago...
Edit: Here is someone talking about doing it manually, I'll see if I can find the other post I was thinking of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25133176&postcount=33

Great help man! It's working now.
I saw that thread before I remember but tried it and it didn't work, combine the 2 and it does work. I just needed to make it turn on with the manual stuff and then use the batch file, now its charging a bit. Hope it charges enough to flash it.
Thanks a lot man!

[Question] Are there two disk drives or something?

**Disclaimer so that this doesn't get deleted. I looked at all the posts and tried to search, couldn't find any answers and I made this thread HERE because I doubt anyone in "General" would know what I'm talking about. This is more of a development question.**
----------
Ok, I am actually having two problems.
1) Normally when I plug my phone in the computer and choose "disk drive" mode, a screen pops up on my PC titled "Removable Disk (J)" That's actually not the right one because right behind that screen I get another pop-up titled "Removable Disk (K)" and that's actually the one with the folders and everything that I'm supposed to use (the root of the sd card folder.) So I hit cancel on (J) and am on my way using (K).
Well over the weekend, on Friday, I rooted my phone using toast's way and then I went camping without doing ANYTHING else.
Then I come back last night, everything is working fine and I installed ROM Manager on there because I wanted to flash Pete's "BuglessBeast". Since my internet connection in my basement is super slow I decided to just leave it at that and work on it at work today. Well here I am.
Problem: Phone was not connecting to computer. It kept giving me errors and then asked me to Format my card. After about half hour of trying to get it to connect I said "fine.. I'll just format it and factory reset my phone and root all over again and do all this. Well now.. phone is only connecting to (J) drive. (K) never appears.
2) Also, after rooting and finding out that ROM Manager won't work for me I have to manually download the file, I tried to go into recovery mode and every time I selected "sd card: apply update.zip", I keep getting the same error saying "FILE NOT FOUND ON SD CARD".
Any help please?
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a way to start over, all over again?
With the problem running (where you can see both disks), right click on "My Computer" and select "manage", then go to "Disk Management" and see if your SD card is partitioned or something. That's very unusual and should only present itself if your SD card is partitioned and it's seeing both partitions.

development is not for posting questions, q and a is for posting questions (hence the name)
you probably built an ext container before (partitioned the card, using one of the recoveries). if you partition the card, they will come up as two disks when you plug the usb in. when you 'repaired' it, it formatted the whole thing into one block. by formatting, you've erased anything you had on it. you'll have to put the files you want back on the card.

ive seen quite a few windows users on here name their file update.zip but have hidden file extensions turned on so in reality the name is update.zip.zip which will not work.
if thats not the issue, something sounds very wrong with your microsd card.
not sure why you had two partitions, J and K, but seems to hint at app2sd or had two partitions setup on the microsd card ...
my friend had one go bad on him yesterday, i had never seen it before but perhaps there is something defective.
otherwise, a reformat of the card, should bring it back to new.

That was actually the problem. =D

Thank you thank you thank you.

Now installing bugless beast. Hopefully the phone will connect to my computer now.
Edit: everything seems to be running fine now.
Thanks joey.

Partitioning the SD, Changing the Recovery Image... I'm getting nowhere.

I've searched and read guide after guide and I'm getting absolutely nowhere. I have tried to partition using ADB, I have tried to partition using a new Recovery image but I can't even change it.
Am I the only person who is having this trouble?
Can anyone see where I am going wrong....
Phone was modified using unrevoked3 and has Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 on it.
I have downloaded the SDK for windows package and extracted it to C:\Android I then run CMD in administrator mode, go to the directory and type 'adb shell'... works fine so I then disconnect and then type 'adb shell reboot recovery' and I get 'reboot: no such tool'. I have also tried rebooting the phone into recovery mode myself but when I try to connect to it via 'adb shell' it tells me there is no device (It shows in the device manager just the same as it did before). Screeched to a halt there.
Next I thought I would change the recovery image to "RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5". According to the comments in the thread I can use unrevoked to install this image. I run the program select the image, plug the phone in and away it goes. After 10 mins of it saying "waiting on root, you can safely reboot" or something like that I gave up and took the battery out as nothing was happening.
Where am I going wrong here? I am only trying to get an EXT3 partition onto the phone so that I can put the apps on there and having it run faster.
This is a VERY brief runthrough of what I have done. I have been searching for about 10 hours in total, reading guide after guide and trying to follow them. I don't even get past the first couple of steps and there is an awful lot of wrong and old information out there.
Oh, as a side note. Is there any way to have the OS boot up in 10 seconds like Sense on the desire z?
Thanks for any help, I'm at my wits end.
if you r rooted download Rom manager from market and select partition SD card
secondly u can get fast boot if you flash the hd Rom in Android development section
'adb shell reboot recovery' written in only one line leads you to nowhere, you should open the shell with 'adb shell' and then issue the command 'reboot recovery' (never used that last one so I don't know if it works).
Appart from that you should do what is said in the above post, just download ROM Manager and partition your SD from there (you will need to go back to clockworkmod, but I think you don't need to do unrevoked again since you are already root)
Thanks a lot guys. Will give this a go tomorrow.
Sounds so simple too, can't believe the way I was going about it.
if you have a cd rw on your pc, just download the gparted live cd ....... its awsome
i'm also struggling with this...also followed the methods OP has posted and getting no where..dont want to use ROM manager because i want to have around 1/2GB space for partition...ROM manager only allows a maximum of 512mb
Worked flawlessly, I can't believe how much searching I done and the answer was so simple.
Off to see what I can do with it now

Just gave this a go and it takes even longer to load lol. Once it hits the Matrix screen it's quick enough. The white screen with HTC is where it takes forever. It takes literally AGES.
The setup looked good too but I think I'll be back to froyo.

Thanks

installed ubuntu on my USB how do i partition the sd card?
Woowww 157 pages lol. My head SERIOUSLY hurts.
I managed to get the fast boot thing to work by selecting "Hibernate" rather than "Power Off". Going by the desire Z demo, it can shutdown and restart in approx 10 seconds without going into hibernation (Can't remove battery/power).
Still, I'm going to have a play around with the HD firmware you liked to. It seems to be getting very good reports
Fingers crossed on the camera getting sorted out soon.
Thanks again for your help.

[Fixed] Soft Bricked SPH-L710

Team,
I have been researching for hours and am quite confused on which avenue to take to recover my soft brick. Information overload:crying:
Here is what happened and I will provide as much info as I can so please bare with me. After OTA upgrading to 4.3 and rooting successfully using the CF Auto Root. I was attempting to get my wifi hotspot working again using the Wifi mod and mucked around and installed the wrong mod (Odexed MK4). This rendered me stuck at the glowing samsung screen and it goes no further. Ive tried to factory reset, wiped cache and rebooted several times. Boots fine into recovery and download mode.
So after hours of searching, reading (its 3:50am est) and testing solutions I am no closer to a fix than I was when I started. I am currently waiting on a stock rooted rom to download in an attempt to flash back to stock but its taking hours to download.
However I just noticed, as I am typing this thread, that I can no longer
1. Mount as an usb external drive in recovery (TWRP v 2.3.1.0) I have Samsung drivers installed (1.5.14.0) so I get the indicator sound from windows that I sees the phone.
2. If I attempt to manually browse through my files using the recovery there are no files inside my internal sdcard directories.
/sdcard There are three directories there
/0 /obb /TWRP and the only folder that has files inside is the TWRP folder.
Im floundering here. I cannot even mount and install files on the phone to even attempt to flash back to stock. Can I get some fresh angles ladies and gents? I am at a loss.

Good morning (not really, I assume, sorry). So where are you at? Not sure what you mean that you cannot install files on the phone... Can you get into download mode and your computer recognizes the phone? If yes, can you do what you started to say - odin stock rooted? Or... if you can get into a custom recovery but your internal sd card has been wiped, can you put a stock rooted ROM in zip format on an external sd card, put that sd card into your phone, and flash in custom recovery?

Here is the problem...the ROM I have is in zip format and based on what I have been reading I cannot install via Odin. Due to the fact that the phone refuses to mount as an external storage device I have no way of placing data on the the internal or external card. The only recourse I have now it to attempt to find an adapter to be able to mount this microsd card to my PC. I am out of town and have no idea where I could find one.....uggggh. Ill keep you posted.

You always have the Factory Reset/Wipe Data option inside your Recovery. But if that doesnt work use your downoad mode and Reset in KIES. but whatever you do, now that you have upgraded to 4.3 DO NOT try and dowgrade. it will cause a hard brick.
You did the ota update which put KNOX on your phone which is bad especially if you have a warranty. There is currently no way to get rid of it. I read a while ago the peoples phones has been getting bricked because they were trying stuff.
Anyway the only option I guess you have is to use your computer and reset your phone using kies. It will flash your phone back to stock in download mode.

I am glad you were able to get use of your phone back. I wish I had seen this thread sooner. I was in exactly the same boat a couple of weeks ago, only mine lasted 3 days. I even bought a new GS4 when I thought my phone was dead. Took it back when someone finally helped me do what you did. It's a helpless feeling when you have been rooting and Romming for years safely. Sure seems like a sticky thread is in order for this specific issue. As you can see, I haven't got enough history for credibility on this forum since I rarely post. Oh well.

[Q]SD Card/Partion [Solved]

Ok, so I went to do a backup today and got an error and noticed not enough space to backup. I plugged it into my PC and it showed that I only had 1.5 gb of free space out of a possible 13.3 gb. So I started looking for a folder/file that was taking up room on the "sd card" and could not find anything out of the ordinary. So I downloaded an app from the play store called storage analyzer and it is showing 6.4 gb of free space in storage/emulated/0. Is there something I am missing with this? All my other phones had a physical SD card and I could just clean it up if I had issues. I am a bit nervous formatting the SD card on my GN so can someone shed some light on why there would be such a discrepancy between what my PC, Recovery, and an analyzer app would see or the best way to format/clean my SD card. Any tips/help/advice will be greatly appreciated.
The same problem i had a while ago. The thing is that your data that is missing is in /sdcard/emulated/ (my recovery was only doing backups there) and your phone while booted reads only /sdcard/emulated/0 . At least that was my problem. Try reflashing the whole phone again. That means backup of sdcard reflashing to newest recovery, wipe all including sdcard and install from sideload whatever rom you want.
It did the trick for me.

I may give this a try soon, I would like to give some of the 4.4 roms a try but want to get my storage lined out before I try one.

Alright, more help needed. Damn its been too long since I have used ADB and I am using an new laptop so bear with me. Also I have searched for several hours on this and just not coming up with a solution. Ok, I managed to get TWRP v. 2.6.3.2 installed on my GN via fastboot. And my goal is to format/wipe my SD card and sideload a 4.4.2 rom. I have a good understanding of the process and have found several videos on the subject. Now here is where my problems begin. First off I have Android SDK installed and have the google drivers installed and I have downloaded the drivers from Samsung again on this laptop. I have backed up my SD card and am ready to begin, but I wanted to verify I could open sideload in TWRP and now the frustrations start. When I try to open sideload under "Advanced" I get the following text:
"Updating partition details...
Starting ADB sideload feature..."
And nothing else happens, even after waiting several minutes, and this happened on v. 2.6.3.1 and that is why I updated to the newest version of TWRP. I have a feeling it has something to do with the drivers but I have not figured out which drivers are needed with TRWP. Is it the Samsung drivers or the Google drivers from SDK. I have unistalled the drivers via Device Manager and let windows install the drivers automatically, and I have uninstalled and re-installed manually using the Google USB drivers. So if anyone has ran into this or knows how to assist me I would greatly appreciate the help. Also keep in mind that I am not a complete noob when it comes to my android phones, but I am a bit out of practice. I am just having some issues locating an answer via these forums and many other searches.
Also, if I format my SD card would it be possible to push a rom to my phone via ADB? I am willing to try an alternate method just want to be able to install a 4.4 rom after formatting my SD card. Anyway any assistance would be awesome at this point. Thanks for reading my long explanation.
One of the other issues was that when I started sideload in TWRP and then typed ADB devices in terminal no devices were present (why I thought could be a driver issue). However, for some weird reason beyond my understanding it is working fine today. I plugged in my phone to begin my trials again today and tada it works, I typed "adb devices" in terminal and now it shows up with a sideload status and I am able to sideload a rom. Sometimes I hate computers/electronics and I chose a career in them.

Most probably you did not have the proper drivers for fastboot installed since i had the exact same problem on Win 8.1 x64 . Now i hope you got your phone fixed. Be just very careful when it comes to /factory partition as that one holds your IMEI and if you erase that only a backup will save you or some mobile service. I know i have to fix mine since i formatted that and did not do a backup before

I know what you mean, I am so nervous when it comes to erasing/deleting/formatting with all the that is why I spend a lot of time reading up and researching and hitting up the folks here at XDA before I commit to something. I have been addicted to android and flashing all the cool roms uploaded by all the great devs around here. I would not know how I would spend my time if this place wasn't here...lol. But yes, I was able to wipe/format my internal SD card and side load a rom and get most of my storage space back. I have came to the conclusion that the actual rom takes up some of the internal storage because after formatting the internal storage and flashed a rom and gapps there was 1.5gb used. I did not move a single file into the storage, but there was still that much used.

won't let me. on phone or computer. phone gives me progress report, when finished, still shows 15.66 available. computer gives me message, "windows cannot format this drive". tried data recovery programs. each one saves the same 16 pictures. shows nothing else
Sounds like a defective SD, return or throw away

not what i wanted to hear! think it's possible to recover the data?
Is not readable by a PC i doubt it byt see what an expert can say
strange thing is, recovery see every folder and zip. but, laptop, file browsers. nothing. am i looking in the wrong area to fix this?
This happened to me last year. Definitely a bad SD, but I used EaseUS data recovery to get most of my data off of it before RMAing it.
Trying to recover the data now. Gonna take a while, though. 45 plus gigs is a lot. Wish me luck. After I recover what I can, can I format through recovery mode and reuse card, or no?

ok so, i mounted through terminal emulator as rw. was able to transfer files over to my computer. but, i still cannot format it. phone goes through he motions, nothing gets deleted. windows laptop and macbook both show it as 1 MB. any suggestions or advice as to how to format through terminal emulator? seems like only option
With the problems you're having, you might want to get a new sd card. There are some good deals on the Samsung evo card at best buy and Amazon today.
That's what I'm probably going to end up doing. :-/
You could try 'parted' on Linux. There's a link to one compiled for Android in XDA somewhere.

Thanks. I'll look into that. It's crazy. For my card to read, I have to format it through settings. Then everything is available
That's probably because of the type of file system.
So it's all [SOLVED] now?
Frank
No. Lasts about an hour, then stops again. At least I was able to back up everything. As soon as I can afford a new card
