Is it just me??? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm noticing that Google is killing it's mascot for android.
He still represents the OS(barely) but like he is not on the Phone.
Google tore him out of Dialer, the Market, the contact list(when no pic was set) the tutorial when I first unlock the device, HE'S NOT EVEN IN TBE EASTER EGG WHEN U CLICK VERSION.
The Next thing that could happen is that android devices will be known as.... Play Devices.
Why is Google killing him off visually on the OS??? He only exist in the 3 following.
1. Welcome Screen
2. When In the Fastboot recovery
3. When an app can be found.
4. Bottom of the play store.
Why is Google killing him off?? I remember he was EVERYWHERE on the N1.

He is in the play store holding shopping bags if you scroll all the way down
EDIT: this is only on screens with the tile layout and when there is an odd number of tiles

No not really. Play represents Google's cloud system. Android is its own separate identity and I cannot see google ever ditching the name android and changing that to play.
On their online playstore portal, it directly says "android apps" and shows the android icon and not just "apps" like it does for books, music, and movies. This shows clear intention to keep the traditional android title distinct from the play title.

lolololol I always thought the "4" was a 7331 "A" myself.
good day.

Apple patented the green Android and its likeness.

on a serious note I think they are just trying to "mature" the os since ics

And it doesn't answer why Google is tearing him out of the OS in every version of android. He being taken out of places where he used to be that has nothing to do with the Cloud.
It looks like Google is gradually doing it.

did you read my earlier response dragonarse?
they are trying to mature the os since ics, party of that is getting rid of the cartoony elements

Maybe he'll make a comeback in Android 5.0

I also read Dragonarse. Im not making fun of you, but you have to admit that it is funny and ironic that the intended cool name is easily interpreted so very differently
Anyway, the Google statue for Jelly Bean us the Andriod mascot, so I dont think you have to worry about Google phasing him out.
There are some places where I see the Android mascot where I do not want him, such as my home screen icon for ebay.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

I think they're only keeping the little guy as a mascot for the OS(i.e. the statues for each OS version), but when it comes to being included IN the OS, Google is probably trying to keep his presence minimal.

You have a point, I can see it happening, and I hope not. I love the mascot, its one of my favorites. I hope they don't do anything lame and generic.

I disagree with the concept of this thread, that Google is killing off the bugdroid. He shows up everywhere if you just look. The JB logo has the bugdroid antennae. The apps icon in settings has him in there. Any app that doesn't have a custom icon for the app tray uses him. He is still the icon placeholder on the Play store as the regular icon loads. The USB debug icon in ICS has his head. I'm sure there are plenty more.
As others have said, they are just polishing things. They love the bugdroid as much as we do.

In jellybean, he's not the debug icon, it's something completely different, in settings, he's not there at all, in the play store he's hidden from view almost entirely. He's gradually getting extracted version after version. And I understand they are polishing it, but they are removing him in places where he shouldn't be removed.

Multi tasking YouTube app?

For those of you who owned a nexus s you may remember that the YouTube app would continue playing with screen off. It was great for music what ever happened to it, And why is the feature not implemented into the newer YouTube app?

I guess there hasn't been a demand for it really.
I know myself, I think the screen on animation looks messy.

Meh. The delay of the screen turning on with it having to do the animation made it worthless on GB. Off ani is fine.

Then you are holding it wrong! LOL I have tried a lot of these voice command assistants, from the S-voice from Samsung to Dragon beta, IRIS, Maanuba, vlingo, and your speaktoit; you name it, I may have tried it. None of them comes close to utter. Which of the other apps can take a verbal instruction to take a freakin screenshot or change the governors on your phone?? None that I have personally come across.
And to boot, this app comes from an XDA member. Who doesn't love that? I'm going to throw money at him as soon as he is able to. There's a lot of work that went in to it and ben(the dev), IMO deserves some fundage. :good:
This app is so clever, just been playing around with it and Tasker, between the 2 apps I can do everything I want. Awesome.

Reboot, set kernel, and a few other things require it.
but you do not have to be rooted to use Utter, and its not doing anything dodgy that you need to worry about, its just so that you can get Utter to do certain things which need root access, if you dont do those things, it doesnt need root access.
Why isn't this bloke working for the Google Now team??

in the customisation menu, you can change/replace words, so for example if every time you say "house" it hears "has" you can tell utter to recognise "house", that may help, or you can try one of the other voice recognition engines in the recognition and voices menu like ispeech or dragon nuance.

[Solved] No Menu Button Issues - Updated first post

-----EDIT-----
Figured it out, and updating the first post to help other out.
Seems I have found an answer from the s5... Long pressing the app switch butting gets you the menu in any app.
----Original Post----
So, after only a few hours of use i have found a very big issue.
No menu button means some apps are useless.
I cant even reply to topics from the XDA app, and cant change setting from others apps expecting to have a menu button on the phone. What was Samsung thinking?
I may need to return this phone if i cant find a solution. Anyone have any ideas?

The one to the left of the home button.
I don' mean no harm, but there's absolutely NO excuse for a Note 4 owner and someone who went out of their way to become an XDA member, to be so ignorant when it comes to something this simple. I don't even have my Note 4, yet, and I could school you up and down on it. There's dozens of videos online at your disposal, to tell you what features are found on your phone. Just looking at any one of them ... and as already mentioned ... you would have found out that long-pressing the recent apps button activates the menu. It's really quite simple.
Or tap the 3 dots at top right ...

Just ignore him man, not even worth feeding his immaturity.
Anyways, Thanks for the tip about the xda app as well.
Hope this thread helps others that are having that WTF moment when they first get the phone... You know, i cant remember but i don't think that first pop up tip says anything about long pressing for a menu. I could be wrong and have just hit ok after reading the title.
Don't sweat the little stuff... I asked a while ago about getting air command to pop up. Once you are used to a device that is very, very close to the device you just bought... well, you may not realize the little changes. In my case the older Note I had you held the button on the s-pen while hovering to bring up the air command menu. On the Note 4 all you have to do is hover then click (not hold). Stumped me for over an hour.. until I posted and asked.
Coming from an iPhone forces people to do more reading and learn everything.
