[Solved] No Menu Button Issues - Updated first post - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

-----EDIT-----
Figured it out, and updating the first post to help other out.
Seems I have found an answer from the s5... Long pressing the app switch butting gets you the menu in any app.
----Original Post----
So, after only a few hours of use i have found a very big issue.
No menu button means some apps are useless.
I cant even reply to topics from the XDA app, and cant change setting from others apps expecting to have a menu button on the phone. What was Samsung thinking?
I may need to return this phone if i cant find a solution. Anyone have any ideas?

Seems I have found an answer from the s5... Long pressing the app switch butting gets you the menu.
Such odd functionality.

The one to the left of the home button.

I don' mean no harm, but there's absolutely NO excuse for a Note 4 owner and someone who went out of their way to become an XDA member, to be so ignorant when it comes to something this simple. I don't even have my Note 4, yet, and I could school you up and down on it. There's dozens of videos online at your disposal, to tell you what features are found on your phone. Just looking at any one of them ... and as already mentioned ... you would have found out that long-pressing the recent apps button activates the menu. It's really quite simple.

Or tap the 3 dots at top right ...

You just saved me lot of pain thank you I was beyond frustrated

A lot of apps don't have the top 3 dots menu

If you long hold the app switching button, you get the menu. Take a little getting used to.

Hold the button for recent apps down for a few seconds. The functionality is still there.

I know you found a way for your options button, but also if you want to reply in the xda app, just tap on the post you want to reply to, a menu pops up

wow, a little harsh.
There are a lot of people who are coming from a device that did not have the recent apps button and is not aware that you can long press it to get the menu button...especially on a device that has only been out for a day or so.

Just ignore him man, not even worth feeding his immaturity.
Anyways, Thanks for the tip about the xda app as well.
Hope this thread helps others that are having that WTF moment when they first get the phone... You know, i cant remember but i don't think that first pop up tip says anything about long pressing for a menu. I could be wrong and have just hit ok after reading the title.

Don't sweat the little stuff... I asked a while ago about getting air command to pop up. Once you are used to a device that is very, very close to the device you just bought... well, you may not realize the little changes. In my case the older Note I had you held the button on the s-pen while hovering to bring up the air command menu. On the Note 4 all you have to do is hover then click (not hold). Stumped me for over an hour.. until I posted and asked.
Coming from an iPhone forces people to do more reading and learn everything.

[Tips]Desire buttons: undocumented features

Hey, i am going to maintain here a list of all thing which can be pressed and trigger some events in special occasions. I only know about two yet, thats where the community drops in. Post your find here and i will put it in this list.
Reboot
Hold Vol-Down, Trackpad and press Power
Reboots the system! Instant!
Prerequesite: Kernel must be loaded, so does not work the first few seconds after power on.
Warning:This does not unmount your sd-card or unlock any system files. Its basicly the same as removing the battery and should only be used in case your system crashed and does not react anymore. Think of it as a reset button on your PC, which you wouldnt press as long as windows runs fine.
Credits: myself
Bootloader/HBoot
Hold Vol-Down and press Power
Starts the phone and brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be off for this to work
Notes: Navigate through HBoot/Fastboot with vol-up, vol-down and power as select button
Credits: myself
Bootloader during reboot
Hold Vol-Down and wait
Brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be rebooting.
Notes: Make sure to press Vol-Down early enough. Must be pressed in before the boot-splash-image. Navigation, see above.
Credits: myself
Android safe mode
While phone boots, press and hold menu
starts up android in safe mode.only system apps are started, 3rd party apps are ignored
Prerequesite: None
Notes: You have too hold menu for a long time, from power on nearly until sim code dialogue
Depending on the rom you use, there is a small chance, it won't work, or the rom won't start.

Nice, the reboot trick is quite useful.
Thanks,
I know this one but I think it is common for Android. When your phone is off. Push menu button then power. Don't release menu until you see a message on bottom left of the screen. This mode is secure I.e. it loads only software of the ROM without 3rd applications.

By the way that reboot is not graceful. i.e. your sdcard is not properly dismounted and open files are not closed. It is the same as a battery pull, so I would only use if your phone it totally locked up ...

I would agree and would also suggest that the OP put a warning about this in the 1st post. This reboot method should really only be used as a last resort...
One more (probably well known) function is long-pressing the Menu key to bring up the soft keyboard. It used to work even on the homescreen, but it no longer does ever since Froyo. It will works elsewhere though. Really doesn't serve any purpose, though...
warning added. i am a bit surprised, there are not more combinations. seams we got them all now. wouldnt have started this topic, if i knew its only such few things.

This free app lets you turn the screen off by waving at the proximity sensor near your earpiece! No Widgets to press! Just the swipe of your hand!

A lil thanks if you like it will be appreciated ;D
The idea is nice but beeing left handed it triggers accidentally too much for me. Works pretty sweet though. Wish the prox sensor was on the right
Be cautious... Just tried playing with this on CM7 #B30, and almost couldn't get it off my phone. Also, didn't appear to work properly (I'm guessing its a Gingerbread issue). Not sure if these results are typical, but I had to reboot 3 times, uninstall through both the market, and app manager, and without being able to do nandroid yet, I was a little nervous.
Idea sounds great though. It'd be a fun trick to show friends, that's why I gave it a shot.

You don't follow directions. And it worked fine on my gingerbread build. To delete it fully, you first need to to in to settings, locations&security, then select device admin. Untidiness the checkmark, and select deactivate. Then delete.
Personally this was a bit too sensitive for me, but very cool concept.

I don't think it will harm the proximity sensor, it just that I don't like to see a red light on the proximity sensor light up when using this app as I guess it use more battery...and that's maybe the reason why they have a time-out to kill the app after certain time. Once the app is killed, you still need to press power on. Anyhow, this is my personal opinion only, nothing against the app; I maybe wrong.

Since Apr 3rd, two days after the HOX officially launched in my country. Do not really notice that, maybe because I seldom use the power button as my device is rooted, using quick boot for reboot, reboot to bootloader & recovery, swipe to power on and so on.
Why are you even rebooting once a day? It isn't necessary and will solve all of your problems.

tip: double tap to unlock screen

Hi guys, when i bought my oppo find 7a 1 month ago, i was searching for some tips and tricks on youtube and found out that you basically never have to touch the power button to lock or unlock the phone. Just double tap anywhere on the screen to unlock and double tap the home button to lock. This simple tip makes it so easy and quick to lock/unlock faster (really helpfull since it's a big phone).
Maybe you will find it weird, but it makes me love the phone so much more just because of that. I don't know if other phones does that? I am so used to this tip now that i always double tap as a reflex when i use my friend's phone from other brands and then realise that it doesn't work.
If you didn't know this trick, maybe it will feel weird for a some times to develop this reflex of double taping, but try it and you'll love it after some time.
I guess that nobody reads instructions manuals anymore...

Fix for lag/delay when hitting multitasking capacitive button

Not sure if someone else already posted but I figured I would share what I found. YMMV
If you're experiencing a delay in response when hitting the multitasking(recent) capacitive button (the one that's to the left of your home button) I may have found a way to speed it up.
In settings > accessibility > dexterity and interaction > touch and hold delay
Change it to custom. When you customize it take your finger off as soon as it turns green. Faster is better.
It seems to have done the trick for me. Let me know if works for you.
