Does anyone know which JB roms allow you to remove the soft keys? I'm currently running the final AOKP nightly but am looking to try others. Thanks.
If you remove the soft keys how do you plan on navigating thru the phone... unless there's something I haven't seen, the soft keys are needed

You can add qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to you build props to remove the onscreen buttons

I've been wondering this too.

For what reason......
The buttons disappear when they need to.
Not like they take up space on the screen. They are needed and available when they are needed and go away when they aren't needed so why try to remove something you will need.
I dont get it.
If you still want to try to remove the buttons I believe I seen this option available in the JB Sourcery ROM for the Nexus. Read about JB Sourcery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833834
Paranoid Android supports it.

I use LMT Launcher to hide the soft keys, the come up when I command them to. It gives more screen real estate. I use it on top of Nova. YOu can set gestures if you want as well. Once I got rid of them, I couldn't stand having them on my screen anymore. Now if only every app came in full-screen mode, my life would be complete.

Brothers, this is the first post from me in xda, sorry for my bad english..
Alright,back to the question...
As you know i want to make my nexus become fullscreen display so i root and use the softkeys to replace the 3original softkeys..
However,I found that the LMT Launcher v1.2 is not good enough for me so i want to find another softkey to use.....but after finding,i find that there are only 2 choice i can choose..
1:LMT Launcher v1.2
2:Button Savior Pro
So i want to ask wether are there any other choice i can choose?
If any brothers know...please tell me!!!!
Especially i want the one as same as the i phone!
The iPhone doesn't have soft keys.

the navigation bar contains soft keys...
and to answer the question you can use miui rom to make it look like iphone a bit but none of the softkey hiding techniques i know are stable.
If your rooted and have a custom rom that supports removal of soft keys like aokp or some aosp roms Try black ice rom on rootzwiki if your looking for the gsm version there the soft keys are in the power menu and the toggle on and off in there too
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413582 you can change your soft keys to what ever you want. Even down to one and make it look like the iphone
Hope that is what you looking for and don't forget to hit thanks to all the people who helped you

You mean the capacitive buttons?
Figured all the mentions of soft keys was short for software keys. Which sorta makes sense.

Yeah, when he said soft keys, I thought of software keys, not capacitive buttons
Use aokp, it completely hides the bottom soft buttons so its total full screen. And it looks excellent.
hey brothers,,first of all..sorry,,may be i use the wrong word....
while my word 'soft key' is that the software keys....because i hide the original 3 keys and use some software to replace it...so i wanna to ask are there any other choices of software i can use to replace the function of "back home and search........
i want some apps~
Anyone know how to disable Tablet UI while running ICS?
Sent from my A100
If your rooted you can change the screen density to 180 or more ...the only thing is you'll have to run nova launcher or other launcher cause the stock will fc
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using XDA
If by UI you are talking about the system bar. If you rooted you can use gesture control from the play store to make it hide. It works well, but some times reset the wallpaper but the dev has a simple fix in the description.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo&hl=en
Thanks for your input guys. I will change density and report back
Sent from my A100
unfortunately changing the density does not force cm9 into non-tablet mode. icons did seem to get a bit smaller but the phone-style navbar never showed up. I see there are a lot of threads on how to force a phone to use the tablet UI but nothing about getting a tablet to use the phone UI.
A toggle in the settings to enable/disable tablet UI would be awesome
I did it on my a100 running flex .....when I did it I set it to 180 or 200 .....the stock launcher fc I then launched nova and bam the phone status bar appeared ....not sure why it wouldn't be the same in cm9
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using XDA
I just flashed Flex, what method did you use to adjust the density?

Rom toolbox offers density control and I know there's another in the market but I've never used it. Like density control or modder or something like that.

LCD density for ROOT is the app I used

So, it works on cm9, but how do I get the on screen button for the phone UI????
Sent from my A100 using Tapatalk 2
I never did get this working :'(
Flex Rom: after I changed the density and restarted it gets tuck in a bootloop
CM9: density change works but the bottom Nav buttons don't show up
I'm gonna ask some one I know who devs for the Xoom and see what he has to say.
In the meantime if anyone has any concrete answers or recommendations please post.
Someone that is willing to try, can try to get us on screen buttons for the cm9 with this....

OK...I may be missing the point not here but let's see.
You want the phone status bar and pull down, right? But I assume keeping the nav bar at the bottom for back home recent and menu?
If so then yes the framework will need to be modded for it. Are you trying this for cm9 or stock or what, it'll be rom specific. I can see about doing it on cm9 but stock will have to wait until I reflash flex reaper.

lol well while I appreciate that, I just build from source, the team is doing the hard work.
I'll see about getting it going on CM9, if I can get it figured out on there, it'll be pretty straight forward for stock based ROMs. Since flex reaper has so many mods, it may or may not interfere with those mods, meaning if you apply a mod, then apply the status bar mod, it may overwrite the FR mod. Make sense?
I managed to get a touch CWM working, so I have some spare time to throw at this too.
Nice! If you need a tester....

If you mean CWM Touch, [email protected] also got one going, posted in the thread about that, I got mine going a few hours ago and PMed him the link, but my xda is all scrambled so I never made a post for it.
If you mean this status bar thing, sure no problem I'll put it up when/if I figure it out.
Been using tapatalk all day and its making my face hurt.
Welli actually meant both but way more interested in Phone UI mod

I'm looking for the best solution for navigation buttons, so that I can remove my navigation buttons from the bottom of the screen and regain that screen space. What is everyone using to replace the navigation buttons? I know there is LMT, with the pie interface, but I was wondering if there was a better option.
I was thinking, is there a way to use the same gesture to swipe from the bottom that is used for google now, is it possible to put custom actions buttons alongside google now in that area? I hadn't seen it on any roms yet, but wasn't for sure. It seems like that would be a perfect place to put home, back, and recent actions.
Lol if you didn't like the on screen buttons why did u get a galaxy nexus
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
Because its a great device. I have no problem with them, but if there's a better solution, it would be nice to use it.
Anyone have any useful contributions?
Lmt and button savior are the only options. I prefer lmt. We could write a new app to do what you want, but it would be a major project.
After trying both, I think I prefer LMT as well. Maybe in the future we will see a mod to the Google Now shortcut, similar to how custom lock screen targets are done now.

Trying to figure out how to get search button and menu button on rom doesn't have it built in to settings like many do is this possible or something like it
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
If you're rooted there are nav bar variants you can flash, for instance, I'm running one with menu button dedicated at the bottom left
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29215393
At the bottom of the first post there are zips for different nav bar combos, i believe that's what i use and it also includes both the search and menu buttons you want. If you flash it, thank the dev

I'm on 4.1.1 stock rooted and I was wondering how could I enable the soft buttons on my phone? I feel like the wear and tear on my home button is getting worse and it's not as responsive.
Someone else posted editing the build.prop and adding in qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 but that didn't seem to do anything.

You should use LMT launcher. It has the PIE included in it which has all the soft navigation buttons plus you can assign other things like opening apps and using scripts as well. Much more functional, doesn't take up screen space etc...

You are interpreting it wrongly. 0 means no hardware key so navigation bar will come out. 1 means hardware key exist.
