NFC tags - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Just curious what can they do and what are there capabilities
Sent from my LT28i using xda app-developers app

depends on what app you're using them with. if you are the creative type, combine NFC tags with NFC Task Lancher and Tasker, you can literally program your phone to execute any command Tasker can do (which is a ridiculous amount). Realistically, however, people use it to trigger things like wifi/bt, set alarms, trigger ringer, pass URLs or contacts. Essentially the tags keep a text string.

Thankyou I really appreciate ure reply

Data services

I'm curious to know if there is a way to activate then deactivate data services on demand per program request.

Interesting app. Have read the name hundreds of times but never tried it.

I see it has to schedule 3g activation times for background services. My question was more for on demand when not using the phone. So instead of scheduling it would be automatic.

With froyo you can turn off data when you want

I appreciate your help but i must be asking the wrong question.
Scenario:
My phone is in my pocket. 3g is off. a program wants to use data. Lets say my email app wants to poll for new mail.
With jd I'm waiting for the schedule window. Is there a way to enable 3g when my email wants data use, then disable when its done. But also, be not limited to just the email client but any app.
I'm sill studying my java and xml before I start diving into app dev.

JuiceDefender allows for "exceptions" (apps that are capable of utilizing data when they need to regardless of JD's settings) if you set all of the apps you wanted to have them then I'm sure it would be pretty close to what you want, but don't expect the same level of battery saving.
I bought jd just to test that. I will see how it goes.

I can't be positive if its jd or the apps but the on demand thing is crap. I'm guessing its not jd. But the way the apps send and receive data using the "service" doesn't work like it should.

Quotation about NFC tags.

I want to send a text with an nfc tag. The Samsung app filled out the the message and who it's going to, but doesn't send.
An app called NFC task launcher states that with their sms plugin, that it will send the text. I get it to open a text with the fields filled out like with the Samsung app, but still won't send. I'm using the uri task, but does same thing. I just can't figure it out, anyone else have any luck it?

Ha, just saw quotation in title instead of question.
You do have NFC checked off in settings right?
Yea, that's how it reads the tags and opens up the message. I just want it to auto-send. I can't figure it out.

What about the NFC call plugin did you down load it?
I did. I have all plugins.

Tried today, works fine. Open NFC task launcher, tap New task, + Add action, phone, Send a text message. Fill in the number, remove the "send a text" in the box and add your text, click OK then at the top right click next then tap the tag to the phone to write the tag. Make sure the tag doesnt have anything else on it. Tap tag, sends text
Got it working, thank you.
There was an update in the market today for the sms plugin. Mine must have been bad. The update also puts the message in your sent message, so you can make sure it went.

Programming NFC Tiles with Tasker?

I have looked everywhere for the answer to this so it either doesn't exist or I completely missed it, but how do you program Samsung Tectiles or other NFC tiles with Tasker? I've heard of other members using Tasker to be able to set some pretty advanced profile options onto their NFC tiles using Tasker, but for the life of me I just can't figure out how they do it.
Thanks in advance guys.
In playstore tasker will have link to there web site shows u all possibilities for tasker

Try an app called "NFC Task Launcher" for programming the tags. If I remember correctly, it ties in with Tasker.

I need a Tasker profile that contains NFC programming capability. Their website doesn't have profiles for that on it. I need to know where to get the profile.

The web site has allot of info
I personally use NFC retag for setting up tags. Dont forget to set up Tasker to allow external access.
You dont create profiles, you trigger specific tasks within Tasker using NFC Launcher or NFC retag. If you are trying to trigger a profile just set up the tag to trigger the tasks of that profile.
Your best bet is to search xda and google for examples of how others have theirs set up. I dont think there is a single site with all the info you are seeking.
Here is one example that I use setup in NFC retag for my car:
Cycle 1
1. Turns off wifi
2. Bluetooth on
2. Tasker task - triggers popup announcing Cycle start (nfc retag has a popup function, but it is not as modifiable)
3. Start app - Torque (Tasker is already setup to turn on/off gps for this app)
4. Tasker task - plugin Bluetooth Auto Connect connects to bt obdii device
Cycle 2
1. Bluetooth off
2. Tasker task - popup announces cycle stop

I looked for a way to enable an alarm

I use alarm clock Xtreme and I would like to be able to have an NFC tag enable specific alarms. I'm currently using NFC task launcher however the alarm functions it has currently only add new alarms. Is there a way to have it only enable existing alarms or is it perhaps another app that will? the only tags I currently have will not write with my phone. Do I just need to get tags that can write more extensive commands?

Im also looking for a solution to this since i use the add timer function but it creates a new alarm, I wonder if its possible using tasker instead?
Still looking

Assign sync function

I've been looking around on the web and on XDA to find a way to assign a sync function to NFC tag.
Basically, what I want to do is to turn off all sync when I leave the house and re-enable it when I get back.
Any suggestions on how to do this? I can't find anything in Trigger.
I've already assigned a Wifi (on/off) and volume/vibration adjustement and those work as they should.
You can do all that and much more with Tasker and Xposed.
I bet there are more friendly solutions out there, but this is what I use and it works like a charm (without even having to use a tag).
Cheers!
Oh, forgot to mention that I'm not rooted and running stock.

NFC retag free from playstore. I currently use with my Xperia tags now. No need for root to program auto sync when tap. You may have to disable smart connect apps or the tags app (system app) if they interfere
