I'm curious to know if there is a way to activate then deactivate data services on demand per program request.

Juice defender

Interesting app. Have read the name hundreds of times but never tried it.

I see it has to schedule 3g activation times for background services. My question was more for on demand when not using the phone. So instead of scheduling it would be automatic.

With froyo you can turn off data when you want

I appreciate your help but i must be asking the wrong question.
Scenario:
My phone is in my pocket. 3g is off. a program wants to use data. Lets say my email app wants to poll for new mail.
With jd I'm waiting for the schedule window. Is there a way to enable 3g when my email wants data use, then disable when its done. But also, be not limited to just the email client but any app.
I'm sill studying my java and xml before I start diving into app dev.

JuiceDefender allows for "exceptions" (apps that are capable of utilizing data when they need to regardless of JD's settings) if you set all of the apps you wanted to have them then I'm sure it would be pretty close to what you want, but don't expect the same level of battery saving.
I bought jd just to test that. I will see how it goes.

I can't be positive if its jd or the apps but the on demand thing is crap. I'm guessing its not jd. But the way the apps send and receive data using the "service" doesn't work like it should.

Is there anyway to have my phone turn the 3g network on to sync? I don't leave it on a lot and hate that it doesn't sync because of that so can I make it so my 3g will turn on automatically for sync? Kind of like it does for mms

I know there are some apps that let you work on your text messages and edit your contacts, but is there an app that gives you full control of your phone from your pc with a full view of your phone screen? Back in my Winmo days there was an app that did just that but I can't remember the name.
Is there no such app on Android?

Try PicMe. It lets you view and control your EVO through your browser with a custom IP that the app gives you. I haven't messed with it for a while, I remember it not being very good but it's free so you can't complain.
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Kinda slow but it works. Anything else?

So far, the other 2 Android phones I have had did NOT support this, and it really sucked, and I am hoping that this Inc2 is different, but so far I don't think so.
When I have exchange setup on my phone, and get a notification about a new email, but then read the email in Outlook, the notification never goes away. So far, I have found NO way for this to get fixed other than to use Touchdown (which I will not be doing). How can this really be something Google cannot code into Android? Has anyone figured out ANY way to get this to work like the Gmail notifications?

Is there an option in cm9 to turn off the account and sync as there is in cm7 and tw? The one that actually tells u that your saving battery by turning it off and the market won't work unless its enabled? Cuz I see that the market always updates as soon as I connect my internet so I'm thinking if there was a way to disable the sync then I would save a little more battery when I'm using the internet correct? So I see there is not actual setting for this since the account and sync being "off" doesn't have the same effect as it did in other roms. So would freezing the market and market updater be the same as turning off the account and sync that I'm looking for?

So the market not breaking doesn't waste a little battery everytime I connect to the internet because the market checks for updates? Is there a way to stop the market from checking for updates so that I can save a tiny bit more battery?

Disable auto update apps under market settings?

Oh, and notification for updates under market settings.

Okay so after going back to a tw ROM I've realized that I was a little misleading in what I actually wanted.
I don't want to disable accounts & sync, because that is the option that is found in cm9 already. What I meant was background data. Is there a way to turn off background data so that apps don't sync or do whatever they do and waste battery?

I have around 800MB of used data on Android os also and I haven't tethered the phone once doesn't even show exactly which app or how it's being used

Nope just browsing reddit and xda mostly today. Haven't tethered at all.

Nope
Do you have photos upload over mobile data on?
Nope and I have sync off.

And you turn it off from the google settings, yes? And not from the account sync option for google photos backup. It snatched 871mb of my data yesterday.

Sounds like something like this. That's a crazy amount of data.
Maybe try installinga better app to monitor data traffic and figure out what's using it.
I actually just found it to be the twitch game streaming app, which is kind of odd considering that it is registering under android os and not twitch.

Yeah, crazy. But for some reason the google photos settings doesn't stick. I came to know it was it when i check data usage. When i check in account settings, google account keep on syncing. Checking further, the refresh arrow is next to google photos backup. No matter how many times i force it to stop, it keeps on running. Then when I check in google setting, it does have the Google Photos setting. I disable that, and boom. It's gone.
My phone went crazy hot during that time. But since i was traveling, i didnt pay any attention to it. Silly me.
