Anybody planning to get this? The size is amazing. Might be enough to pull me back to big red. I've been waiting a long time for a phone with high end specs that is 4" or so. Yes, this is 4.3 but is smaller than many 4"phones like the Nexus S, so even better Can't wait to see some full reviews and see how it feels in hand.

I'm interested to hear what stores will have them available and when. I've heard from some stores 9/10 and others say 9/10 or 9/13. One told me 9/12. Best Buy is standing firm at 9/13.

Thats what the official release says but its not unheard of for preorders to ship early, authorized dealers to sell early, flagship stores to sell early, etc.
It's not enough to pull me to Verizon, but if there's a GSM version, I'm pretty sure I will buy it. I was originally waiting for the Nexus devices, and I still will, but I don't expect any of them to be small like this. I'm really tired of the trend toward bigger phones.

Yeah if a gsm version with AT&T bands is announced in the next few weeks I'd stick with AT&T probably. If not I probably will go back to big red. I've been waiting a year or more for a decently spec'd small phone!

I'm fairly sure you'll get what you're looking for. We already know there's going to be a UK version, and most of the phones in the UK work on AT&T just fine. The only thing is, it might end up having an Intel processor, and those are still a bit shaky.
I'm going to have a harder time, I think. I'd really like something with T-Mobile bands. The spectrum refarm should cover me even if it doesn't have T-Mobile bands, but I'd rather have something with AWS in it.

GSM on Developer Edition - ?
Interesting about the GSM radio.... So if I purchase the Developer Edition of the Razr M is it still locked to Verizon or will it allow me to utilize this GSM radio with another carrier?
I'm committed to getting this little guy but still on the fence on $99/locked or $549/unlocked. The option to switch carriers would make this decision a slam dunk.
Edit: Normally I'm telling others "search is your friend" - oh well....
From MotoDev Q&A:
Does unlocking the bootloader mean I can use my device with any wireless operator?
No, this does not disable a carrier subsidy lock if one exists. Some subscriptions are tied to a specific wireless operator and the phone cannot be used on another operator’s network. A “locked bootloader” and “carrier subsidy lock” are thus two entirely different topics. Do not unlock the bootloader if you are seeking to disable the carrier subsidy lock

If I buy it I'll probably do a contract. Early termination fee is $350 I believe. Difference in price between on contract and off contract is $450. So unless I can pick one up somewhere else for less than $450, the numbers say I'm better off starting a contract and then just terminating it and paying the fee if necessary.

This is a great point, are there any other restrictions through VZ that would prevent this? You could wait it out on ebay, but I'd prefer to go straight through VZ.

I don't think there are any other restrictions. I think it is relatively straight forward math. $99 on–contract plus (max) $350 etf = $450, or a full $550 off–contract from Verizon. That etf drops by like $10 for every month you keep Verizon, so you are unlikely to pay the full thing regardless. Unless you can pick one up for like $400 new on ebay, seems the numbers favor starting a contract.
If anybody sees any errors please correct me.

Oh snap! If it's a global phone, then I can probably just buy the Verizon version and use that, just like I did with the Droid Pro. I just have to wait for somebody to come out with the band unlock.
I'm a Motorola user for 6 years, i modded every phone i had like SLVR L6, L7, KRZR K1, Z3, V3, V3i, E8, RAZR2 V8. After the P2K and Linux, the Android era: Cliq XT, Cliq, Defy, Atrix, D2G, RAZR XT910, and i like to say that i love Motorola phones...
I'm my personal opinion, Motorola has everything to make potencial Nexus-alternative phones, they make great hardware, they're know what they doing, only if the unlock their bootloaders and give better OTA support and just in time... and who know... maybe the next Nexus would be a Motorola.
My only concern about this phone is the lack of the HDMI port :/

I guess this will be my future-proof phone (at&t merger or not) for the next year or so.
this is definitely the best phone for a while, until another beast comes along on a quad band hspda+
this phone is literally a 4x4
you can switch to any GSM cell phone provider that you want with the same phone without thinking twice.
i just bought the phone full price.
on the phone box it listed.
gsm 850, 900, 1800, 1900.
umts band 1 (2100), band II (1900), band iv (1700), band V (850)!
so this phone does supports 850/1900 3g too!
Well this is good news at least... I guess this phone is the lube that will make the brutal takeover a bit less painful.
It passed the FCC with AT&T 3G support, there is NO question that it has AT&T 3G support.

So did another recent (in the past 6 months) T-Mobile phone, the G2x. The specs said it etc. I wasn't until after the phone was released and some people actually tried it that they found out it didn't work.
Same caution should go with this device, until someone puts a bloody AT&T sim in it and gets a testable connection treat the specs, web and box with a grain of salt.

Sorry again part of the confusions surrounding the G2X was a possible misstating by several blogs. http://pocketnow.com/android/lg-p999-passes-fcc-is-t-mobiles-g2x for example.
In the end though even if the FCC tests the phone to support those frequencies, the manuf lists the support and t-mob lists the support, until its tested by multiple users I wouldn't believe it. Sorry but I have been burned by to many manuf lies (I own a captivate need I say more) and too much incorrect information.

That model number is for a different LG G2X that T-Mobile didn't sell.

Ahhh so if they are identical then I presume someone tested it on that one?
Specs schmecks like I said until tested its rumored to be supported. I'd love to see confirmations from a reputable source that they have taken an AT&T sim and popped it in. Until that happens people should be cautious is all I am saying. Don't buy a phone and get locked into a contract for a spec thats unproven. Just because the hardware support is there doesn't mean the software can even use it.
I'm not skeptical of that which is proven but I am cynical of that which is quoted without proof. It' not you, or anyone else in this thread but after a years of dealing with telco and manufacturer broken promises, half truth's and specs that are just this side of outright lies...
did LG G2x listed umts 850/1900 on phone box?
this tmobile galaxy s2 does listed umts 850/1900 on phone box!
that is like saying on a honda sticker it listed 500 hp and the car only has 200hp, that' fault advertising, you can sue them!
That is true, they speculated that the G2x COULD have AT&T 3G but didn't "unlock" the feature. There is only one true way to figure this all out, that is to unlock the phone and try an AT&T 3G sim in it

My captivate listed on the box it had a gps, oh its got one allright but it aint worth a crap.
Just because the box says it has it doesn't mean it functions well. It just means its present. It may drop a AT&T 3g call every second due to a software bug that may never get fixed.
Then again it may have a better tuned antenna than the AT&T SGS II and get better reception. We just dont know. We know what the marketing material says but they doe come out and say oops sometimes.
ok guys... this conversation is getting a bit derailed.
The original question and answer is for the SGH-T989 nothing to do with the LG G2x
so stop comparing Orange vs Lemons, or at least make a new topic for your comparison, instead of hijacking this topic

I thought people in the US looking to use the One X will love this, and I hope this will answer people's question regarding phone compatibility on T-Mo USA.
Today we have more than one million unlocked iPhones running on our network. T-Mobile currently offers microSIMs for customers who already have a GSM phone they want to use on the T-Mobile network, including an iPhone. In order to set up an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile’s network, customers simply need to purchase a microSIM card and select a T-Mobile Value plan that suits their needs.
T-Mobile’s Value plans enable customers who bring their own smartphone, such as the iPhone, to save money. For example, T-Mobile’s Value family plan with unlimited talk, unlimited text and unlimited data with 2 GB of high-speed data is just $49.99 per line for two lines.
In addition, we will continue to deliver more value to customers as we expand and modernize our 4G network. Beginning this year, we will introduce HSPA+ service in our 1900 MHz PCS spectrum. When we do, our 4G network will be compatible with a broader range of devices, including the iPhone.

this is actually good news for some people! I'm lucky enough to live in an area where the 1900MHz frequency is in used
Thank you for posting. This quote from the press release had many T Mo USA customers like me very excited of the possibilities. I import lots of cellys and only recently began to really focus on the appropriate 3g bands on my carrier as I simply cannot put up with 2g at alll.

This is good news - IF we can get confirmation where they have actually rolled out the update.
Also, I wonder whether this phone can get a radio upgrade to enabled AWS on 1700? I know some Samsung devices (like the Note) can get flashed to add the band, would this be possible on the One X?

The AT&T version will have the AWS and 2100 band on it so my hope is we will be able to swap the radio/modem with the One XL and get the bigger internal SD and built-in radio........crossing fingers!!!!
I don't believe that will be possible. There have been instances where a phone has landed on multiple carriers with certain bands disabled, however in this case, HTC has released separate architecture for the US/AT&T variant and so it's not like the 1700 AWS band is included in the LTE version and simply software disabled.
I did see that AT&T's version has the same exact radios as T Mobile's Amaze 4g (same AWS bands) so it will be interesting to see the phone itself can simply be unlocked and used with T Mo without flashing.
One last thing, T Mo has confirmed the refarming/reframing of their 1900 bands from 2g into 3g, it will only be a matter of time before we see the full deployment of 3g via 1900 band. Both phones may end up in the same price range (unless purchasing an AT&T model used) and so I'd rather have the unbranded 32 gig version.
The only thing is how long will you wait and be stuck on 2G until the refarm hits your area. Right now it's a slow roll out since most time is being spent on the LTE 2013 launch.
I do a lot of data things while i'm out and about, so EDGE speeds would kill me. I'm thinking now of just waiting to see what the SGS3 has to offer or the LG Optimous 4HD. I don't want to speed almost $700 for a phone i can't use data on.
If an unlock would open the AWS band for use on T-Mobile on the AT&T version then we could be able to flash the international version that has the S4 chip with the AT&T radio.
We'll see, since right now all we can do is hopeful speculation.
Same boat I was on when I imported my Desire HD. I was stuck on Edge until I got to my home or office. For most apps I utilize, it was not such a big deal, however YouTube and a few others was pure torture on just 2g.
I was so close to ordering a One X too... I'll keep my XE a little while longer though. I'm really not at all impressed with the One S. The One X is def my choice.

LOL!!!! I was thinking that too but i actually think that due to the LTE rollout the end of the year and beginning of next year will be awesome for T-Mobile. I know the G4X and the SGS3 has to be on T-Mobile, it's their best phone. I actually think that the next big windows phone will be something HTC and be on T-Mobile also. Also, I heard a lil hint from the Samsung rep of a T-Mobile Note. Guess we'll have to wait for CITA to see.
And a few years back you would have laffed at me but dude, the Huawei Ascend D is coming to T-Mobile and from rumors the processor kills all.........so lets be slightly optimistic hahahahahah
Not sure how helpful this is in clarifying anything, but there's a new post about this today at the T-Mobile forums.

It's just reiterating what they've said before. The question still remains as to what the timing and geography will be. I'd imagine it'll be great for people in major markets where T-Mobile will focus the majority of their energy. But people who travel a lot, especially to secondary and tertiary markets, may have a long wait until T-Mobile's 1900Mhz coverage is everywhere. It's better than nothing but still a long ways from being competitive.
"Select areas of Washington State, California, Nevada and Arizona are currently the only places with refarmed spectrum. Users in those affected areas are reporting reliable, HSPA+, 4G level speeds on their iPhones within the currently, largely undocumented, coverage area.
According to my source, it is anticipated that by as early as October of this year that T-Mobile will have their spectrum refarming efforts completed. At that point, T-Mobile's network will support all quad-band GSM/UMTS banded handsets, including Apple's iPhone."
http://www.informationweek.com/byte/news/personal-tech/smart-phones/240000527
Yeah, Its going to be a while. I think there are a few places in Cali somewhere that they have done this already. By the time they finish this a good majority of us will probably be on a different phone so it doesnt really do anything for us.
I was with t-mobile until I Purchased the One X international and moved to straight talk. I will probably move back to T-mobile once they finish this and plan on buying unlocked phones from now on.
Being on AT&Ts network in Downtown Chicago Sucks ass. Although when Im downtown Im usually on wifi at work so its not a huge deal. Still annoying though.
so if I were to get a One X now which one should I buy for it to work with 4g when t-mobile refarms the 1900 band? ATT or International?
AT&T's One X and the international One X will both give you 2g/Edge data for the time being.
Considering T Mobile USA is reframing 3G & HSPA+ traffic to 1900 MHz (currently utilized by T Mobile USA exclusive for 2g), both are solid options as at some point later this year, both will be receiving 3g data. However, AT&T's One X will have to be unlocked in order for you to use it with T Mobile whereas the international One X is already unlocked.
Remember, both devices are not identical. The international One X has a QUAD core Tegra 3 processor vs AT&T's DUAL core Snapdragon and the international One X has 32 Gigs of internal vs AT&T's 16
Guy on Craigslist has one that is in perfect condition. Is it worth $400? I have been hovering around the idea of buy the HTC One S, but if I'm ognna go 16GB no sdcard, might as well go with a nexus device?

Sorry, I should have been more specific; the One S does not support the correct bands to use HSPA+ on AT&Ts networks, so your data speeds suffer. The Nexus, OTOH, does not suffer from this limitation.

I'd be interested to hear someone chime in, because the One S has 850/1900 HSPA. But anyways...

Just going off what I've seen around. It does support 1900 MHz, but maybe there's another issue. *shrugs*
Who would really want to pass up the screen on the GNex, anyhow.
Hi folks of XDA! I have a quick question for anyone who knows their 3G/4G/LTE band connections!
So before going straight into the question I feel like it's necessary for me to give you some background information... I currently have an iPhone 6 (as my HTC One X broke late last year) and I'm definitely planning to switch back to Android. More specifically, I want to purchase an HTC One M9 unlocked/developer edition. Unfortunately I don't believe HTC will be selling an unlocked/developer edition for Canada (as they have not done this for the M8) so I was wondering if I can buy a USA unlocked/developer edition of the HTC M9 and it would be compatible with Fido's 3G/4G/LTE bands?
According to Fido's website, "Your device must be compatible with the Fido network, which uses GSM, UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+ at 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. To access LTE network, the phone must be compatible with: 700 MHz on Band 17; | 1700/2100 MHz on Band 4; | 2600 MHz on Band 7.
I did a little digging and HTC USA's twitter, states that, "The HTC One M9 - Developer and Unlocked utilizes LTE bands: 700/850/AWS/1800/1900/2300/2600(B12/B17/B29/B13/B5/B4/B3/B2/B30/B7)"
A Fido mod on the Fido forums states, "Fido's LTE network uses the 2100 and 2600 MHz frequencies (mostly 2600 MHz)" (So I'm guessing it'll work with Fido's 2600MHz) and from another user, they said, "You do need AWS to gain access to [Fido's] LTE network". (looks like the unlocked M9 have AWS)
So with all this information, I'm guessing the unlocked version of the M9 will be able to work due to it having 2600 MHz frequency and AWS? Will there be a problem with battery as different bands are being utilized? If I recall correctly, some tech reviewers on YouTube have used Korean phones in the past and they had really bad battery due to the phone keep trying to find "proper" 3G/4G/LTE bands but when they got ahold of a US model, battery life was far better.
tldr; unlocked M9 work for Fido 3G/4G/LTE? Difference in battery life? (explain if possible); ayylmao?
Also I don't want to purchase a Roger's HTC One M9 outright on day 1 as it'll still have bloatware and delay in updates... two things I do not like!
Fido uses 700, AWS, and 2600 for LTE, all of which the Dev edition supports.
So my presumption is that it'll work flawlessly with Fidos network with no battery issues.
My goal now is to get the unlocked version of the M9 to be shipped to Canada haha

No guarantees on the battery, but everything else will work fine. I just got my M9 Dev Edition for use on Bell (same freq. requirements as Fido).

Did you cross the border for a day and picked up the phone?

If you live near Niagara, there are several places that only charge $5 to hold your package for pickup. There are also places you can use to forward the package to Canada when they receive it.

I live on the west coast and I have a friend who referred a company to me which will handle my package. Thanks for the heads up about the Bell network and your developer edition M9 . I might as well get the developer edition too as they both use the same bands and etc w/ the same price. Much appreciated for your quick replies!
So I want to buy this phone straight out. AT&T is charging more than other carriers, should I just buy the T-Mobile version? Do I have any other options for where to buy or which model to buy?
The T-Mobile version will be locked to T-Mobile, and AFAIK, unless you have a T-Mobile account, they won't unlock it for you.
Plus, it looks like the the T-Mobile phone lacks at least two LTE bands that AT&T runs (and vice versa).
I am in the same boat, and for now I see the choice as between buying the AT&T phone (leather) through BestBuy and collecting their $100 gift card for the final cost of $669-100=569, or buying the unlocked international version at ebay (currently $605) or amazon ($655), which has all the advantages of not being a carrier version, but also lacks one of AT&T's bands (30). Plus, there are risks associated with buying a $600+ phone from companies you don't know.
Quite a few people from here have ordered their phones from ebay, so I'm hoping they have a good experience, so I can jump on the bandwagon.

Good to know I'm not in this boat alone lol. How much do you know about the band its lacking and how that may affect signal?
I wanted T-Mobile for that brown leather.... But it makes sense that you'd need an account lol.
I just looked at specs for the two models:
AT&T Model H810, bands 2,4,5,7,17,30.
T-Mobile Model 811, bands 2,4,5,7,12
International Model H815, bands 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,17,20,28
So, the TMO model lacks AT&T's bands 17&30, and the International one only lacks 30. I really have no idea how wide-spread those bands are, and how much we would lose by not having them.

Appreciate you looking that up. That's some good info. I was gonna research when I got a chance later tonight lol. I did read earlier that if you get the tablet from ATT you can get an LG tablet with 2 yr contract for $0.99... That's kinda cool? I don't have a tablet so it'd be neat to have one haha.

The small print on that tablet is that you have to put it on that 2 yr contract for $10/mo.
I don't need an LTE-enabled tablet bad enough to pay $240.99 for it. It might be a good tablet, but I doubt it's that good.
Plus, I am going to pay full price for the phone mostly to be free. Why would I tie myself to a contract for a tablet?
I'm in the same boat, sort of. I'd like to avoid a carrier version and was set on the International but now don't know how that one missing band will affect service.
Question though, if I have a carrier model and get it unlocked to use with another carrier, I'm guessing I'm still stuck with the previous carrier's bloat and start up screen, correct?

Haha you make a good point!
Well I can't be 100% sure on the info I'm reading.... But it looks like Band 30 is either a 3g band or a lower mhz LTE band. I can't find much, or I may not be using the right "key words".

Yep.
Unless you root and debloat it, but that very ability is more likely to come to non-carrier versions, which are not bloated in the first place.

Correct on that. At least till you root/ROM it!
I think I'll stay away from rooting and romming for a bit. I bricked my three month old LG G3 romming it and had to rebuy a new one last month. So when I get the G4, I'll have two G3's which look brand new but one is a paperweight.

Lol I understand. That's a pretty cool looking paperweight! But yea, international versions don't come with much bloat at all.
That's my main attraction to it. I'm picky about my phones and hate branding and bloat. Looks like the International model lacks bands with both my current carrier (AT&T) and the carrier I may be jumping to (Verizon).
Now I'm stuck between two rocks and a hard place. I can either chance it with the International, go for the AT&T model knowing I may be dropping them in a few months, or just wait it out until I switch carriers.

LTE band 30 is upcoming, and not yet deployed. Chances are good that unless you live in the downtown area of a major city you probably will be moved onto the next device by the time you need band 30. Also, band 17 is AT&T's primary LTE band, so you probably don't want to get a device for AT&T without band 17. Stick with the AT&T version or the international. You can probably find the brown leather backplate by itself without buying a T-Mobile G4 that's missing the most important LTE band.

Awesome info! Thank you do much! Band 30 sounds like the real deal when it comes to speed lol. Might be worth it to stick with a more expensive ATT model... I love me some fast Internetz...

If you happen to be in an area that gets band 30, you should have incredible speeds until more devices are released that support it. It's just part of the consideration. I figure my speeds are fast enough for now, and it could be a year or more before band 30 is even up in my home area. I'm on AT&T and have the international version. I'd rather have the guaranteed unlocked/rooted international version than pay a lot more for the AT&T variant which might be locked for months. Whatever you do, just don't get the T-Mobile. Other than that, you can't really go wrong.

Actually, if you are planning on going to Verizon, you don't really have a choice: You need to get the Verizon version.
Both AT&T and international G4's are GSM-only phones and will not work with Verizon.
