my Evo wont connect to CPU any more ive tried reading all the other threads but still not working
I just want to flesh out some of the details here.
Is the phone charging when you plug it into the computer?
Is there any activity from your PC or the phone when you select "Disk Drive" from the USB menu? (Like maybe a USB error/not connected sound in Windows).
Are you able to access or see it through ADB using the SDK?
Does it work on any other computers?
Have you done anything recently? Did it just happen today?
usb connection not working
I'm having the same problem--my original usb cable was damaged, and I just bought a new (generic) one. Does the EVO require a special type of cable rather than just a standard micro usb?
Here's the details:
USB Debugging is enabled.
Phone is set to ask for connection type (default is disk drive).
Phone charges when plugged into the PC but the computer doesn't recognize it.
In the notification bar, there is the usb debugging icon, but not the other one that usually says charge only/disk drive, etc.
ADB doesn't see the phone.
So far I haven't been able to get to another computer to see if it does the same thing. I tried disabling usb debugging, no effect.
update
Ok, yesterday I got my phone replaced because the screen was damaged. I also got a new usb cable; this one specifically for the EVO. Same thing. I plug it into the computer, and it charges, but the PC doesn't recognize it, and the phone just seems to think it's plugged into an AC adapter. The phone is set to ask what to do whenever I connect it to a PC. Since this is a brand new phone and cable, I would think this would have to be a computer issue, but the PC doesn't seem to recognize that anything has even been connected.
Update: solved--it was the usb port. For some reason the usb ports on my pc case stopped working; plugged into one of the back panel ports and it works fine.
Any microsd cable will work, I'm using my palm pre's now, my htc cable went out a month ago.
I
Chevk device manager whole you are plugging your phone in. just in case there is some bad driver issue, it should show there.

I have this exact same problem. Can anyone help me out here? The only dif is I installed a kernal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763

and after that the usb connection was lost from my cpu. It will only charge now. Any help here would be much appreciated! Thanks
I've tried everything I can possibly think of. I have an Asus Laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and absolutely cannot get my Epic to be recognized. I've uninstalled and re-installed the driver more times than I care to mention. I've tried mounting the device to no avail either. I've tried plugging in the phone into each of the USB ports on the laptop to no avail. I need to get the computer to recognize the device so I can get odin to recognize the phone so I can flash back to stock. Right now it doesn't do so. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get this up an running?
Try installing the 32-bit drivers even if you're on a 64-bit computer....
The same issue comes up. It says that the drivers are not successfully installed (even though the installer goes through) and it says "Unknown Device" over and over.
Are you removing previous drivers?
then rebooting before installing new drivers...
also are you using stock cable?
if so buy a new cable you can get cheap ones online for like a dollar just search micro usb cables
Yes, yes, yes. Does the cable really make that much of a difference? I saw that people have had issues but I mean it charges properly all the time so I figured it was ok to use.
Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
That cable is worthless get a Blackberry cable they are very durable and dependable.
i was having problems also..... all because of the cable.
I'll probably go buy a cable from Walmart, order a cheaper one online from Monoprice and return the other just so I can odin my phone...I really hope that's the issue though.

does it keep looping "unknown device" in the corner, almost like you unplugging and plugging back in repeatedly?
ifso try cleaning the contacts of the usb port on phone and on the small end of the cable.
if not then try totally uninstalling the drivers you installed and if possible when its saying "unknown device" open the device manager, r-click then unistall in there.
USBDview has always been able to dig me out of the home when ive had usb related driver issues... just run it and delete/uninstall anything samsung/android/adb etc related, reboot pc and phone then try again...maybe even redownload the drivers

update (you replied as i was typing): one bandaid for the cable you could try for now is to take a needlenose pliers or something and slightly squish the micro end to try getting a tighter fit.... i had to do that to the cable i keep at work.
You can always just download kies. That's what I did. When I was trying the standalone drivers I had trouble. Installed kies on both of my laptops and coding works beautifully everytime. And I seriously think you guys are ill. Its a cable... its digital. It either works or.it doesn't. I use my samsung wire exclusively. Its thin and I like contour on the plug. Both cables have worked flawlessly on both of my epics.

You are wrong.
Cables can have breaks in them which give them intermittent connectivity. Also, since this cable has several (5 I think?) single strands of wire in them, a single wire could be screwed up causing this (or the pin for a single wire on either end) That would still allow it to charge, and partially be recognized by Windows, but not allow it to fully communicate causing this problem.
I have a cable that I only use for charging because it has this EXACT problem. Another cable works perfect, but this particular cable gives me the unknown device.

Right.. so it either works or it doesn't lol if both cables are in perfect working condition then there would be no issue. Its all preference. I personally use a blackberry micro usb cable. It locks in to the usb port on the phone better. Just so im not paranoid about the wire coming off while flashing... cuz thats bad lol

I didn't articulate myself clearly, but that is my fault.
If a single wire inside the cable is broken (for the sake of simplicity let's just say it is the RECEIVE cable - from the device to the PC). The PC can recognize that there is a device there, but because the device can't talk to the PC, Windows can tell there is something there, but has no idea what it is since the device can't talk back to the PC. Also, in this scenario the cable would charge just fine since those individual lines are intact.

To quote u "Yes yes yes" it does make ALL THE DIFFERENCE... I had the same problem and made serveral posts about it when the phone 1st came out, I tried everything... Uninstalled/Reinstalled/Rebooted many times, Manually deleted the folders where the drivers are held then Re-installed, Installed Kies (which is a P.O.S. and was a BIG WASTE OF TIME imo.) I tried everything and just about gave up until 1 day i looked @ my roomate and asked him 2 let me borrow his cable to his cheap cricket phone 2 see if it would make a difference.
Well it worked... Get a new cable, if you've done what ive done and it still doesnt work, its the cable and not the drivers
I've done just about all I freaking can on this as well.
I've installed, un-installed, and re-installed the drivers. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on Bootcamp.
I've used USBDView, I've uninstalled all of the connected drivers. They get re-installed, but the phone keeps keeps coming up as an Unknown Device. I try and locate the Samsung USB drivers directory, but it keeps coming up as Unknown.
Does anyone know specifically what directory I should use choose when trying to manually link the driver in Device Manager? I'm having a ***** of a time here.
Anybody have any ideas for me? Thanks.
I had the same problem. Buy a new cable from monoprice. The second I bought a new cable for my 64 bit Asus laptop it worked.
Trust me, buy a new cable.

I had the same problem. I didn't follow directions to solve my problem in Odin. I had to start Odin and plug my phone in and quickly put the phone into download mode. I did that a few times and finally got it to recognize. With Syndicate, it now recognizes every time. I say that now. LOL
This is how I fixed this problem. After doing all I could think of, uninstall, install, system restore, nandroid restor to when phone was being recognized... all these didn't work for me. I still got the same unknown device in device manager.
The fix: with samsung epic drivers already installed. Turn the phone on, plug into your computer. Let device manager find unknown device. Power off the phone. Boot into recovery. Pc will recognize your phone as samsung android device. Reboot your phone and you should be good to go. Hope this works for the rest of you. Good luck.

It could be a faulty USB cable - I've had a few go "bad" in that I could still use them to charge devices, but they would not work at all for any kind of data.
So my first suggestion would be to change the cable - second would be to try a different PC.
Regards,
Dave

Upgraded to Windows 8? Had my pc updated to W8 yesterday and the usb ports didn`t work. I`am back on W7 until it is fixed.
Nah im still on W7 64-bit, but i got it to work for once just then and now it doesnt work again... Oh well atleast i got the files transferred which i needed.
Cable may be faulty........
Same problem with my Note 2......
but eventually i tried with other samsung cable (one which previously provided with my samsug galaxy S) and wooyala........it's start detecting......
It means cable provided with my phone is fault.......which does charging but doesnt connect my phone with pc for MTP or Kies.
it clearly seems to be a fault with your USB ports of computer
i have the sprint samsung s3 SPH-L710, and had it for about 4 months now. before connecting my phone to my pc (windows 8) or any other computer for that matter i did not have any issues transferring files back and forth. even after i rooted my phone there was no issue. after about a week or two i started to have issues. 1 being while the phone is off the screen no longer shows that the battery is charging instead the screen stays blank and vibrates continuously so the only way to really charge it when its dead is to start the turning on process and then plug the phone in. 2 there is now a delay when accepting the charge ive used the original and other usb cables to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. lastly any pc do not recognize the phone nor does the phone recognizes that it has been connected to the pc. ive chaged the settings to MTP then MTP +ADB under PDA and still nothing. uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. even reverted my phone back to stock the original sprint factory state and still getting nowhere it seems. if anyone have an idea i would be very greatful!

If they don't recognize each other. Sit them down and introduce them.
But really, Did you try it again on a XP or 7 computer? Maybe switching to Windows 8 cause HW issues with your comp.
I had this problem with my shift. It either wouldn't get recognized by the computer, or it would but the state would be "offline" in adb not matter what. I also was not able to mount my sdcard by connecting my phone, even though it would show up as a disk drive
The only way I was able to fix this was by getting another phone from Sprint
And yeah, same as you I tried multiple cables, branded, unbranded. Multiple computers too, running windows 7/8
Only adb through wifi was reliable, but push/pull was too slow to actually get anything done

i sat them down and neither one paid attention to each other. so i figured since the phone and windows 8 didnt want to talk i would try windows 7 and vista and the computer doesnt see that its connected to the phone nor does the phone see its connected to the computer. I dont even see anything pop up in the notifications on the phone

Hey gang, I can't seem to connect my LG to my laptop. Hello! You can find the drivers you would need and I would suggest installing the LG PC Suite, from here..
http://mobilepcsuite.com/lg-g3-pc-suite-465
After installing these, and your laptop doesn't recognizes the phone then there could be old drivers blocking you from connecting your LG phone.. OR bad USB connections ( check your USB ports ).. Good luck

Have you installed your phone drivers from that site? Try connecting another USB device such as a flash drive or something to check if your ports are working well. Reboot your laptop with the phone plugged in.. See what happens.. Next step is to try connecting your phone to a pc or another laptop.. Your USB ports could be damaged.

Try this http://www.mylgphones.com/download-and-install-the-usb-drivers-for-lg-g3-on-windows-and-mac.html
Check your USB ports under Device Manager on your laptop and uninstall those with yellow exclamation marks ( if any ).
BTW.. after you connect the device to your laptop and use the pull-down menu.. Do you get the 3 options ..
Charge Phone , Media Device (MTP) and Send Images (PTP)?

Damn bro! If those files didn't help then I'm afraid I have no more options or suggestions..Usually, it's a driver issue but I have no clue about Mac and their drivers. .. Connect your phone to a laptop using Windows.. In that way you'll know if the device is faulty or not.
Let me know once you've got it resolved..Hopefully it'll be soon .. Good luck :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for the tips. I was able to download the LGPCSuite and when I do connect my phone and open the app it recognizes my phone, but all I can add to my phone are pics, videos, and music. I can't add any folders or anything else. Its not allowing me to see all my folders on my phone.
A weird solution that worked for me
I had the same problem. My g3 would only charge when connected via usb and only connect to pc suite via wifi.
I tried everything, but no luck.
In my case, the problem was that the usb cable, although it looked like it was nicely plugged in, it needed to be pressed down to make a right connection. If i just plug the usb cable, it just showed that the phone was charging.
But if i press the last part of the cable, just where it enters at the bottom of the phone, then all other option show up(like mtp etc), my windows system makes the familiar usb sound etc. If I give up the pressure, then back to charging only mode.
I hope this helps some of you. It is a bad usb port at the phone that caused the problem.

Well Thanks, for the post, I know you didn't need to write all this when your phone was connected for good, but you did it because you knew there would also be some people like me in need of your help,
My friend has the same problem with his AT&T LG G3, it only charges when connected to PC and no other connection setups are shown neither on the phone nor in the PC/laptop so, and i have done all the things possible and i could thinks off.
Now i think i should try your method and will tell you if it also works for his G3 or not. Thanks by the way.
