Hello, I've been researching the Galaxy Nexus for a while now because I'm considering buying it.
However, I found threads about screen issues and that multi-touch issue(the one in landscape when playing games where you have to lock then unlock your phone to fix it temporarily).
Some people claim that the multi-touch issue is a software issue. If so, has it been fixed ?
Also there's this game "Dungeon Defenders" that seems cool but I saw a video of it on youtube and it seemed laggy, but people replied that it was due to lack of ICS optimization (ICS was still new, that video was in November 2011) So I also want to know if the game runs smoothly now (especially now with JellyBean)
I have read countless of threads on a lot of different websites with people saying that the galaxy nexus is the best phone they have ever had, some even say they switched from SGSIII and SGSII, and that really encourages me to buy this phone.
Should I be worried about these issues ?
I will buy the phone from Google's play store in the USA but then shortly, I will travel to another country, so I will not be able to take it to warranty after I leave, and that is what I'm worried about the most. (Does anyone have any information on International Warranty ?)
TL;DR Summary:
1- Multi-touch in landscape (gaming) issue?
2- AMOLED screen issues ?
3- Dungeon defenders works smoothly ?
4- International Warranty ?
(Also anyone feels the galaxy nexus has let them down in a certain department ?)
Thank you.
No international warranty.
To be honest, Almost all, if not all phone manufacturers do not provide international warranty.

Damn,... well does anyone still have the multi-touch issue ? Hopefully I will not need to take it to warranty.

Multi touch should be been fixed long time ago
Never played that game, so don't know. I do play a lot of games, but even with underclock to 1ghz, even heavy games are pretty smooth. Not the best phone to play games to be honest though
In low brightness, screen is grainy.
Because it's amoled, it's pretty easy to get a screen burn in issue
Other problems? Battery is in poor side. That's about it.

Had this phone for 2 months now, hands down best phone I've ever had. Im running a dexoed version of the stock rom. Its great I haven't tried any other Roms yet because stock 4.1.1 is so dam good. Everything works and its fast. Haven't had any touch screen issues though. Dungeon defenders should work fine. Not sure about the warranty though. I'm using the gsm version. I just got a case and screen protector and try to be careful with the phone.

Okay, so now I can get this phone this week but I can only buy it till the 20th of october, after that I'm leaving the country. I'm really hesitating right now about whether I should go ahead and buy it or not. Is it a smart thing to do ? I want this phone to live for as much as possible but I've heard that the screen's lifespan is kind of short and that's one of the reasons I'm hesitating. Can this phone live for around 3 years ? (or more hopefully)
And even if the new nexus come out soon, I probably won't be able to afford , and I will also not be able to buy this one for a lower price :/
Should I go ahead and buy it ?

Go with the Nexus, supporters of the GSII have ONLY GPU performance to back them up. But so far, my Nexus plays every game I throw at it BEAUTIFULLY. We might have the older SGX540 GPU, but it IS overclocked and is not the same one found in older phones. The SGX540 in the GNex runs at a higher frequency, and the performance boost is very noticeable. What do you need an overperforming GPU for when this one performs just as well on the user end?
Not to mention the beautiful 720p HD display on the Nexus. Do you want to be stuck on that ****ty 480x800 display of the SGSII? Not to mention, the GNex is outputting more pixels AND performs exceptionally. Our 'weak' GPU is a beast.
Lol. It's a Nexus. 'Nuff said
EDIT: Even our OMAP4460 outclasses that exynox garbage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378551
So, GSII, do you feel special with your useless, overzealous GPU?
SGS2 is a solid phone. Great hardware and beautiful screen. Great battery life. No software updates like Nexus line of phone. Hence the reason its officially still at GB 2.3.5
GN is a solid phone. Great hardware and mind-blowing screen. Great battery life. Software updates arrive as soon as Google releases them. Currently running ICS 4.0.1
Its ur decision which way you want to go. I have both. Handed unlocked SGS2 to my wife. I am using GN and am very happy with it. Even though my cedit card still has a big dent in it. Lol

what do you mean???
I am in the same boat. I have been putting off upgrading to a new phone for quite some time now (i dont upgrade every few months due to student reasons).. lol.. but the new parade of phones is tempting me a lot!
I am still stuck on an ancient Nokia E72 with its 600mhz of glory!
I am deciding between GNex, SGS2 or the Iphone 4s. My primary usage is texting and calling, camera is not a very big deal breaker for me (i have a dslr and a small point and shoot, but all of these phones have a decent enough camera for those impromptu moments).
I decided against the iphone 4s since the design is still the same as the previous, IE, its made of glass and is very very delicate (accidents can happen).
So im left with S2 and GN. I kind of decided to go with the GN since its got a bigger and higher res screen (i do like the screen to look nice!) and the pure android does seem like a better choice.. Even ICS is only GN, S2 would be getting it soon, bt it will have the touchwiz etc on it.. id rather stay clear of the 'advancements' made by the individual companies and have pure android with me..
the only thing that is bugging me now is the battery life. i understand that its a smartphone with a ginormous screen so im not expecting 3-4 days battery (the type i get with my E72 with moderate to heavy usage), but i would like to get by the entire day with moderate usage and charge the phone at night while i sleep.. the forums have many people claiming really good battery or really bad battery (for me, really good battery is the ability to go without ur charger for the entire week, something that i have done on my fone, albeit with sending less than 20 texts and a phone call the whole day). but ya, i wouldnt mind if i have to charge the phone at the end of everyday..
What would you guys do??

so, what purposes is GN for?
Phone, Text, Web, Some games (not all games work in GN), 720p screen (which is also a double edged blade), Development
ICS4, Google music, Face Unlock, etc, all these also available on other phones
GN only represents "guaranteed" OS upgrade by Google, which doesn't seems to be holding true anymore from what we've seen already on the latest OTA upgrade
I love Google products with all their drawbacks, currently owning a Nexus S and this is a great phone, so Galaxy Nexus would be my pick for sure.

I still think Galaxy S 2 is the smoothest Android phone out there and it's running Gingerbread. Wait until it gets ICS.
I'm kinda disappointed by Galaxy Nexus.
Scrolling with the S2 feels weird though. The scrolling animation is smooth, ill hand it that, but its as if its slightly behind the movement of my finger. Dont have that problem with the GN, which is also very smooth in every native app. Apps not yet optimized for ICS seem to be laggy from time to time, but its app depended imo.
Overall I prefer the GN.

Nah, I feel the Galaxy Nexus is smoother.
And ICS smoothness is overrated, it doesn't magically make the phone smoother at all, at best you won't notice any difference, but I imagine the phone being bogged down by a Touchwiz/ICS combo.

There is definite lag. I can't use live wallpapers on the Nexus because of the slowdown. Quite annoying, but oh well.
Or maybe the app isn't optimized for ICS yet as the OS / device is relatively new?
Google can't control what app devs do.

Live walls at 720p....
Same problem on Rezound as well. By the way, aosp walls work a hell of a lot better than the retail ones. Lag is pretty much gone if the live wall does not scroll with launcher screen.
(Let me preface this with a pre-emptive statment that I love Android (had a GTab, currently have a TF. And I am not a "this phone rules, that phone sucks" kind of guy, these are simply my DISPASSIONATE--albeit subjective--observations.)
Call it minor or whatever, but I have to admit, the lag is one of the big reasons keeping me from getting the phone. I've tried them out in stores, all running 4.02, closed all programs, used static wallpaper, etc., and the screens lag. And almost every online video I've seen seems the same way.
Obviously it's not like the 1st generation Android phones (which truly had horrible lag), but still, I think it's kind of unacceptable in this day and age and on a $300 phone. The GS2 is noticeably smoother -- instantaneous, really. Smoother than any phone I've ever used, iPhone included.
I want to love this phone so much -- great screen, ergonomics, and, obviously immediate updates and dev support, but I'm having a hard time getting over the somewhat laggy response.
I had a GTab which, if you're familiar with them, positively sucked out of the box, but the ROMs were awesome and made it super smooth... Maybe the ROMs and/or updates will do the same for the GN.
Anyway, please re-read my first statement before you say, "well, then just get the GS2," or somesuch. Like I said, I'm not dissing the phone in any major way -- but I need to love this phone if I'm dropping $300...
I've gotten it very smooth with Cyanogenmod and Franco's kernel (smoothest by far). But I too feel the S2 is smoother. Wish they used the Exynos lol well when the S3 comes out I'll just sell this and buy that retail. Hopefully it comes to Verizon.

Today I went into Verizon (got T-Mobile) but wanted to play with one and compare it to my ns, and the demo I played with was a bit stuttery ,I even wiped the phone in the store ,and was still stuttery/laggy my ns runs way smoother compared to the one I played with,I'm really hoping it was just that particular phone, cause if T-Mobile ever offers it subsidized I plan on getting it,but not if it runs like the demo I messed with today...bottom line I left Verizon today a bit disappointed...

Demo units aren't really a true representation of what the phone will feel like when you actually unbox it. It was being used by a bunch of other people who could of even installed apps of it. I have a NS and I can say the GN is just so much faster on ICS.

I've found those two phones for sale for more or less 300€ (both), so I don't know what to choose.
I tought I wanted the GN, but I read that the ones made in August have (almost every phone) a problem with the proximity sensor that cause reboots and I'm no more so sure to buy it.
So which one is better to buy?
Thanks
GNex hands down. The S2 has really crappy software (Touchwiz UI). Also the screen is better on the GNex.

I have no clue. I don't own the GNex (yet), but I have the Nexus S. Even the Nexus is better than the GS2 IMO. Since the GNex is at least as good as the NS (except for audiophiles like me), it is a better phone than the GS2 overall.

1. For my needs, it is better than any carrier subsidized phone. The dev community provides more than the carriers, plus you get to learn at the
same time.
2. I plan to keep mine at least another 12 months. I'm usually slow to move on, and this phone satisfies most of my needs. Keep in mind how fast technology changes.
3. I have Gta 3 on it. I did not have any issues until i found someone's save file here on xda. Now I get the occasional lag, but nothing i really mind, since i only play from time to time.
4. Well think of release dates is all you need to do. Technology is ever changing. But to have a community like this phone has and google providing factory images and latest updates is pretty huge.
5. Those phones are inferior in my opinion, because they're locked up, and require more to free them.
6. Buttery smooth.

The problem is, this kind of question has so many variables. What is important to you?
The latest software? Get any relatively new Nexus.
The latest hardware? Nexus 4, Galaxy S3, any other new high-end phone.
Price? This Nexus, any other 1-year phone.
Stock Android? Any Nexus.
That's why you're getting so many nonsense answers; they're an unanswerable questions.

This. In a sense it all really trickles down to how you want to use your phone. IMO, if you haven't bought one yet, look for newer devices. The GNex was released late 2011. There have been a lot of changes in the smartphone industry since that time. If you buy one now, you'll realize how much difference there is between these newer devices and the good ol' GNex. Support would also probably dwindle as time passes by. But that's just my take on this matter. If you have the resources to buy a newer device, I'd say go for the newer ones.
For example, I'd come in and say "wait for the for the flexible display devices, they're getting out this year"

Hello. I'm planning to get a Galaxy Nexus and I'm wondering if it will suit my needs. What I want to do with it is make it my sole communication and social hub with some productivity tools running in the background.
What I would be doing:
Running apps in the background - Adobe reader, Dictionary, Evernote, MX Player, Currents
- I would be occasionally switching between these apps but I would just like them to run in the background
Frequent app switching - Go SMS, Tweetcaster, Flipboard, FB, Google+, KakaoTalk, Email
Do you think the 1.2 GHz dual core and 1 GB RAM of the Gnex would be sufficient for my needs?
I don't have any intention of rooting it. I also am not planning to get a Nexus 4 after all the scary problems that I discovered with it on the web.
Appreciate your replies. Thanks.

I am not sure what's your intention to keep them all running in the background.
When there is not enough memory, i feel like some apps that are running in the background automatically hibernate. So it takes about similar time to open if you don't run them in the background.
It's only a matter of a second or two as long as they run smoothly, though loading news in Currents is usually not so fast.
I would say galaxy nexus will do the job.
Well, if you're planning to keep the phone longer, I'd suggest something with 2gb of RAM, like an N4. Now if the money is the issue, GN will suffice.

I just want to save those apps' states. It's like I just want them all minimized all the time.

I love the specs of the N4 but the problems that I found on the internet (auto-reboot, touch accuracy, etc.) are what's holding me back.
This is more a Dev phone. If you don't plan on rooting and unlocking then perhaps you should look into other devices.
If you plan on doing all of what you said on this phone be sure to get an extended battery

I know 2 people with n4s and haven't heard such complaints, maybe it was the initial 4.2 release jankyness.

You say you have no intention of rooting. If you did you could install a custom such as xylon and flash a kernel such as ak kernel and your nexus would be a powerhouse. You could also by an extended battery for about 25 dollars to get all day battery life.

I know it's a dev phone but owning a Nexus S, I just think that the idea of "unskinned" android in Nexus devices really made a difference in the phone's performance.

I see. Hm. Now that makes me think about the N4 again. What do you think of the N4's viability?

I also don't know how to flash roms because I'm kind of afraid of the instabilities of those. But if you could recommend one that's really stable just like the stock android, then I could learn how to flash and go for that. The reason why I'm worried about it's instability is because I'll be using the phone for both personal and business use.

It's a "semi" issue.
I bought my wife an N4 and she has had zero issues. It's been running smooth for over a month and a half. It's a nice upgrade over the Gnex. Bigger battery, nice screen, better camera. I would say that if you can afford it, get it. Have you checked the N4 forum to see what people are saying?
Saying all that, I still like the Gnex a lot. I was using an HTC One S, but when I bought my wife the N4 I thought I'd give it a shot. It can do all the things you are planning. I did have some lag on stock, so decided to flash a few different Roms. Running the latest Paranoid Android and it's super smooth.
This was the easiest phone to unlock ever, as a Nexus should be.
Goodluck with your decision.

About N4s viability : well its a Nexus :]
Android has come so far that even if you won't play with custom stuff or even root, you'll still have a quick, good experience and best software upgradability out there.
As for the money thing, I've bought the GN 2nd hand without any signs of usage for 280€ in December. If I wanted a N4 back then it would have been about 400 (if not a bit higher because of the lack of supply). 120€ minimal price difference wasn't worth it for me, I tend to switch phones yearly (sell one, get newer one 2nd hand when it looses it's max value drop).
No idea what your price on buying the GN is, so I can't really say anything, hope my experience can give you a bit of perspective.

I too would strongly urge you to rethink the N4 if it's in the budget. Stock vs. Stock, it's a better device than the Gnex, in my honest opinion. Play with one in person, and own it, so YOU can be the best judge of what you're getting. However, if you do decide on the Gnex, stock 4.2 runs very nicely on it (I have the Sprint Version, so 4.2.1.) and I don't think you'll be disappointed, but the N4 will definitely have more longevity than our beloved Gnex. Good luck with either decision you make!

I just checked the N4 forum and it scared me even more upon reading the post about its screen of death issue. What kind of lag did you experienced with it? It is just on the interface, apps, or app switching? I'm more concerned here about app/task switching from time to time.

I actually played with one alongside with the Gnex and I can't really tell the speed's difference in terms of their interface.

No lag with the N4, sorry. I meant I had some lag with my GNex running 4.2.2. My wife has never had any lag on her N4.
At the end of the day, you can't go wrong with either. I love the GNex, even though it's a bit long in the tooth. All depends on preference.
Good luck.

While the g'nex is still a solid device I'd also recommend N4. As for issues scaring you, keep in mind that the g'nex was also plauged with reported issues. Display problems, loose USB ports, failing hardware buttons, ect...
A friend of mine bought a N4 second hand a couple months ago and hasn't had any problems, while I haven't had any problems with my g'nex.

If you'll go to Galaxy forums, you'll see tons of problems there, but that doesn't mean every device is flawed. If you sell millions of phones, of course the error rate will be more apparent, specially if it's popular. Same goes for Nexus, buyers of those phones are more aware and they visit sites like xda, so it appears the issues are widespread.

I had just a little lag scrolling between home screens when I was on stock 4.2.2. No issues switching between applications or anything.
I rooted a couple weeks ago and have been running the latest Paranoid Android. Great battery life and zero lag.
Let us know what you decide. I definitely recommend unlocking and running a custom Rom if you get the Gnex.

Yes, I see that but the only reason why I think it's that really widespread is due to the fact that even if you just google N4 problems compared to GNex problems, N4 really does show up a number of it.

With regards to switching apps, on a daily basis, I heard that the GNex sometimes reload the app instead of "restoring the minimized state" of the app. Any experiences?
