Hi Im look to get someone to figure out how to get caller id,sms, and interent over bluetooth to work on windows phone. Im willing to pay 50$ for such an app.
You can already get the phone to speak the caller ID over a Bluetooth headset. In fact, I thought it did by default? I can't find a place to turn it off.
For SMS, go into Settings -> Speech. There's an option for "Read aloud incoming text messages". If you enable this (I have it set for "Bluetooth only" but you can also set it to work for wired headsets, always, or never) then the phone will say to you "Incoming message from <name>" (or <number> if it doesn't know the name) "You can say 'read it' or 'ignore'" and the phone will then listen for your response; if you say 'read it' the phone will read you the message and then give you the option of also replying by voice.
As for Internet over Bluetooth, that could be either tethering via BT (have a PC access your phone's Internet connection over BT) or joining a BT network (enable BT networking on you PC and share the Internet connection through it, then connect your phone to that). So far, I don't know of anybody who has gotten either of those to work. The official Internet Sharing feature has some hidden options that make it look like it should support using BT, but basically nobody seems to use BT networking anyhow, so maybe that wasn't implemented.

on a side note but still related,
i think MS saw the writing on the wall for most of the BT stack along time ago, most of whats left is pretty much "it will do" cant say i really miss whats missing
i love the irony of users now trying to make WP like WM after spending a long time moaning about WM

yes i know of these but i want the caller id to be able to be sent as text over bluetooth. for example to show up on another screen saying xxxxx is calling you. Same goes for sms.
as for internet im talking about having your device provide interent to your computer or tablet via bluetooth
Not Development, so moved to General :good:

BT PAN & DUN are not supported profiles. In other words, tethering is available only through USB (if your particular device supports it) or wi-fi (same caveat).

That moaning you hear is because you expect progress in the realm of technology. Windows Mobile runs rings around any other OS as far as connectivity is concerned. This is how you can connect your laptop to the internet with Windows Mobile:
1. Bluetooth PAN
2. Bluetooth DUN
3. USB
4. Wi-Fi
Only the freeTether homebrew on webOS gets near that (no DUN). Here's the kicker: DUN is client-side initiated so you don't even have to unholster your phone. Sorry dude, I need a tool and not a toy. My daughter plays with the iEtch-A-Sketch.
Display of callers name is a function of the BT device not the phone. My car hands-free displays caller ID because contacts were sync'd to it from the phone.

Aah, I do miss the BT PAN. Maybe the user wants to save on battery power, I know I would.

*walks into old thread that has some relevance to him* Bluetooth PAN has more than just laptop and tablet tethering uses. Smart accessories, such as smart watches and (most likely based on what ive read) the upcoming Google Glass require such capabilities. New technologies are coming out that connect to your phone via this very feature. If your phone does not have this, youre sunk.
does anyone know if there is any way to use pan in windows phone?
There is no reason it can't be added, but I suspect it won't be added

-w- im committed to windows phone, but I find it silly the things they leave out (and have removed.)
I mean, pan wouldn't be too hard to add I would think... also, there is Play music voice command and a return of the lockscreen
music controls that is needed (with an option to disable it for those who complain saying "its still running! I want them gone.")....
Microsoft seems to of not heard the saying "If its not broke don't fix it." instead they heard "If its not broke fix it before it is."
I am really looking forward to Glass but if it wont work with my phone that sucks. same with smartwatches.
Glass half empty again?

What applications don't work for you?

-Replacing IE_Short.lnk with task manager command causes internet explorer to open simultaneously with task manager
yeah no threaded sms programs will catch the messages. that's my only gripe right now.

I've run an Application Unlock on my S620 and I've managed to install Blackberry Connect but, like you, not getting any mail.
I've given up and gone back to the German WM5 rom. After a couple restarts of the device, the blackberry connet top banner doesn't even show up on homescreen anymore!
I'll wait till rim gets their act together on WM6.
J
Hmm...I am going to give this another try.
I realized that I couldn't get emails on my device, even after putting the WM5 rom back on, because I hadn't sent a "service book" from rim's blackberry site. That did the trick. Gonna, reload WM6 and give it a shot!
J
Bah, no luck getting this thing to connect or run reliably let alone get emails...
how do i go back to my original .. windows mobile 5...
if anyone is using WM6 on the Dash...
could you please tell me if they fixed the bug that automatically changes your profile to "headset" when you connect a bluetooth handsfree headset.
and if it does change it to "headset" automatically could you please tell me if you are able to change your profile to "normal" while the bluetooth headset is still connected
Thanks in advance

Someone would have to consider that a bug first. I think more than 99% of the people using a bluetooth headset would want the phone to switch to headset profile automatically. Call me silly, but...

well yeah it would seem that way but when i have my bluetooth headset connected... sometimes i want my phone on silent/vibrate and other times i want it to play sounds, and i hate having to go and edit the headset profile manually to do this, just changing the profile would be a lot more convenient.
I use my wired headset to play music then set the profile to normal.
Does this not work the same way when using a BT headset?

no for bluetooth, you can't change your profile unless you disconnect the headset
I noticed that none of the MSN pre-installed software that was part of WM5(MSN IM, Hotmail access, etc) is on this version. When I attempt to set up my messaging to receive hotmail, I get an error stating: "could not find pmsnlauncher". I've looked around and found a download of the pocketMSN software, but it must be 'activated' for ~$20. It does mention (msn website), however, that if the software is 'pre-installed' no activation is necessary. This leads me to believe that the MSN software is simply not part of the BETA rom.
Anyone else notice this? Any thoughts?
msn is now windows live.

uhhh... tpc works just fine for me... i'm using 2.0 beta 4 of tpc, but other versions should probably work as well. make sure your phone is completely app unlocked, or you will have problems. that includes the 0000101b policy entry in the registry.

Has any one been successful in transferring their Phone book via bluetooth to the car's phone book? If so, can you please let me know how?
I have an Acura TL 2008 and it has this option but I cannot seem to transfer even one single contact via bluetooth to the car let alone a whole phone book. I can pair perfectly and make and receive phone calls.
I am using Vp3G's WM6 3.0 version and I have Tmobile USA with unlimited internet. For radio, I am using the latest 1.51.
Is it the limitation of the Hermes or limitation of the Bluetooth in the Hermes?
Thanks.
Shamim
It's definitely not a limitation of the Hermes... I can upload my contacts to car set via Bluetooth. I don't have an Acura though... sorry.

If you right click a contact, do you get the option to send via bluetooth? I do not and am wondering if something needs to be set or turned on.
Thanks.
Use the Jeyo bluetooth software. It will most likely transfer all your stuff to your car with no problems.
http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
It will do SMS messages too. You can even set it to use a different MAPI store such as email. Although there is a character limit that makes it kind of useless.
I have an Audi with MMI and it transfers fine, there is a short delay though after starting it up till the phonebook is available
Bluetooth & Infiniti
I wonder if anyone has had any experience with this utility and a 2007 Infiniti G35x that has the nav / tech package. I can pair my HTC TyTN just fine and use the basic bluetooth functions. I can even send one contact entry at a time but haven't figured out how to send my entire phonebook. I wonder if this app will help.
Anyone have any experience with this phone / car combo?
Thanks everyone for the jetware info. I will give it a shot and reply.

I bet it is a setting issue for the Acura. The Ford Sync system will ask, "Do you want to load phonebook?" right after it pairs...
It works - JETware Mobile Software
Upon suggestion from 'Diaftia' in this thread (THANK YOU!) I downloaded Hands-free Extension from JETware and installed it on my HTC TyTN. I then sat in my car and through the phonebook 'send' mode of the applet, I chose to send all 354 contact records to my car's phonebook via the bluetooth pairing. The car immediate showed 'downloading' at the appropriate time and viola! They were there.
I need to play with it some more to see if I can get more than the first phone number field to download. The Hands-free Extension app does allow you to pick only certain categorized phone records to be sent.
I've since purchased the utility and will explore more of its features! So far, so great! I've been looking for this solution for quite sometime!

David

David,
I installed the software but did not see a Send option. I was able to select the categories on contacts that I wanted for the phonebook.
Where was the Send option? In the Jetware software or your car?
Thanks.
shamim
In the Extension software from the menu, go to phonebook options. In phonebook options select the categories that you wish to send to the phone. Press the 'menu' soft key option again. You will see 5 options, of which 'send contacts' is one of them. You will then get another set of options and finally a confirmation before it sends the records. Make sure your car or receiving device is set to receive before you finalize the send process.

Well, I have experienced exactly the same problem with my Pioneer, I am able to send one by one contact to the car but I am not able to send the entire phonebook at once. When I try to do that then the bluetooth connection is getting disconnected and that is it. I wonder if that is a problem with the bluetooth driver,
I had a heck of a problem with importing to my new Audi A4 Pervertable, and worse it kept loosing connectivity then re-establisign it (mid song no less). Eventually fixed with BT Radio 1.50, (tried everything before it).
I don't know whether this is relevant or not. This is how I do it.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 610. When pairing the device with my Hermes all I have to do is make sure comm port service is enabled in the hermes bluetooth utility when asked for service type. If it's not enabled then there won't be any sharing of phonebook between them.

I currently use the JetWare Mobile extension ver 1.31 that I updated several days ago and now I can use Voice Command via bluetooth hear and give commands through the car stereo system.
I can also hear announcements of calls, emails via the stereo system. Sorry got off subject...
With this software I'm pretty sure that you will be able to upload your address book. I had no problem with 275+ contacts....
They have a free trial you could try to ensure that it works for you, but it's not free...
If memory serves me think it was about $15, well worth it if your a heavy BT user.

Jac,
Thanks for the info. I already gave jetware a shot but it did not work for me. I do not get the "Send" option on my contacts or phonebook through Jetware or Outlook contacts on the TyTN. I am using Radio 1.51 and Jetware extension 1.31. If I got the Send option, it would work. For Voice command 1.6, do you use the option 'use bluetooth when available" or the option "use bluetooth only".

I know in my case, it took me a couple times to figure out how to upload the the contacts to the car stereo using Jetware...
First time was: I did not go into... Hand-free Setting\Menu\Advanced Options\ And check off Phonebooks.
Second time was: I did not leave the car stereo phonebook settings "waiting to accept data" before I sent all the contacts from my PDA.
Any way back to your last question "About VoiceCommand 1.6" I use the setting "Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only"....

Good luck on your quest...
Hi, I, plus many others, would like a VOIP solution that works.
I know some say there is a VOIP that is built into many ROMs but I have had about 10 devices, starting with the XDAII that I have never gotten to work here in the USA.
Yes, I have tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299950 and the gOD Shaun33 SipConfigTool_2_0_1.CAB and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=574521... And many hours of searching...
I would install SipConfigTool_2_0_1.CAB & WM6VoIP.CAB & even SecondToday.CAB on roms with different Today skins.. (Touch Flow or whatever)...
On all roms, the today plug in "Internet calling" would not show.
I think the verizon and sprint must have sabotaged the possibility of VOIP or something.
I also have read that when people did get it to work, it would not work with their BT headsets and OR would produce sound out of the speakerphone and not the normal speaker.
Here is what I want.
I want the ability to switch between regular cell calls and VOIP.
A simple file edit or GUI like the gOD Shaun33 SipConfigTool_2_0_1.CAB
Can be switched from VOIP over WIFI or VOIP over reg cell data or reg cell phone via a button or a Today plug in..
To be able to use my Blue tooth headset.
Not use a third party app,, just the default - built in phone dialer so the ringing and other stuff.
NOR a third party app that does not slow things down, activate your WIFI.. (like fring) and that wakes your phone up for a call, yet allows it to sleep to save on battery life.
Hell everyone is doing VOIP now days, especially with the Windows based VOIP server that will even run on Windows XP. www.3CX.com .... Its free.. We use it at my business with a laptop or desktop and the 3CX softphone. To make it the best thing ever, we use a BUA-100 Plantronics BT USB device and a www.JAWBONE.com and the quality is the best thing out there and you can answer and hang up by a click on the side of the BT headset, just like your cell phone, so you can keep your hands free and not have to sit by your computer.
Asterisk is another.
Now to put that coolness into a cell phone that would go out over the hi speed wireless or WIFI, THAT would be the FRICKEN COOLEST!
I would pay $150 and I think there is MANY people who will donate money too.
Hi, I have a tactical sail program to my windows phone, but this software can only use bluetooth to connect to the system on my boat. My boat only sends out signals over wifi. Is there a program for windows mobile that lets me receive wifi from the boat and trick the sailing software to belive it gets the information over bluetooth?
Martin
no lol. both two total different communication protocols..
I'm not sure you understood what I meant. Is there a program that can take wifi signals and send them as bluetooth inside the phone, to the sail program.
Martin
im pretty sure what u meant..
and i still say no. thats not possible
its like flying with a bicycle , without wings..
impossible
been searching a bit for bluetooth proxies...
looks worth while investigating it
google bluetooth proxy and check the web-pages which pop up.
i'm not a programmer but still i think u can get this idea to some developer to get it done.....
like my idea would be like get the data from wifi means from specific IPORT and redirect the data to a internal COM port...... u can add this port to a incoming PORT in ur application.....
but again im not sure how much this is possible in implementation

I previously owned the Evo and when I paired the bluetooth in my car with the phone, it immediately asked for permission to access the phonebook on the phone via PBAP (Phonebook Access Profile - a Bluetooth standard profile). This way the handset phonebook was accessible from the display on my car and also provided the information for Caller ID for contacts that existed in my address book.
I noticed when I paired the Epic with the car that the same thing didn't occur. When I try to access the handset phonebook from my car, it shows an entry for "MyInfo" and that is it. None of my other contacts are listed.
The question is whether there is a setting somewhere to allow this, or is the PBAP profile not available? In the technical specs for the phone, the PBA is listed as a profile for Bluetooth.
Same thing is happening to me. I have Ford Sync in an 08 Sable and it downloaded the phone book but when I try to voice dial it keeps asking me about "call MyInfo." Like that is the only listing there is. I am also having problems with the voice dialing on the phone itself (and not thru bluetooth), and with trying to record a memo. I keep getting the "try again" screen or "nothing is heard" notice. It's like the microphone is turned off. Anyone else having these problems? Thanks
bluetooth voice
I notice that there is no 'handsfree' profile available for bluetooth devices in the epic. With my former windoze phone, I did not have access to voice features from a bluetooth device until I applied a 'handsfree' profile rather than the standard 'headset' profile.
Does anyone know whether this is going to be fixed anytime soon? I really want the ability to press the button on my bluetooth, thereby activating voice dial and then voice dialing right from the bluetooth device rather than from the phone. I do not like physically handling the phone at all while in the car.

This is an issue with Ford Sync. It intercepts all interaction with the phone and doesn't relay any voice to the phone I believe. A feature I loved, but with 2.2 and 3.0 will become outdated quickly (I'd like to be able to issue Voice Actions over bluetooth for sending text messages and changing pandora stations).
Voice dialing on my '10 Fusion and Phonebook downloading works perfectly fine.

I second that question. Sprint store tech says android 2.2 is suppose to fix that and everything else (exchange setting to allow attachment download) We'll see
Same issue with BMW and Epic
I'm having this issue as well, exactly like the original poster described, but in a 2010 BMW 3-series with iDrive. This is a huge disappointment coming from an EVO and iPhone before that. Hopefully this issue will be resolved quickly or the phone might have to go back. I can deal with everything else, including the inexplicable lack of ability to move messages between folders in Exchange, but this is crucial as I spend a lot of time in my car. Ugh.
Any help?
Any help on this issue? It really is a deal-breaker for me, as I bet it is for many others.
Fixed with the maintenance update?
So, here is an update on the situation. Yesterday I applied the Epic maintenance update that was just released. Today I was in the car when I received a call. Previously, my car would just show the phone number because it couldn't read the phone book on the phone, but today it showed the name and phone number. So I went into the "handset phonebook" option on my car, and it was able to see all of my Exchange contacts in the phone, something that I wasn't able to do previously.
It appears that this might've been addressed with the latest update, although the release notes (as far as I know) don't make any mention of it.
This happened to me the first time I synced my phone to a 2009 Mini Cooper S Works (similar to the BMW systems). All I got was "My Info". I was bummed out about it, since I'm in the market for a new car soon and I really liked the Cooper. I paired it to my girlfriend's VW Tiguan. Synced fast and easy and everything worked perfectly. So I was thinking, OK, stuck with a GTI then. Out of curiostity, I tried syncing it again to the Mini, and voila! Everything worked perfectly. It wasn't fixed by the DI07 update, this worked before I installed the update.
To all those having this issue, try syncing again. There wasn't anything that popped up on the phone or anything. I literally changed nothing, just retried it and it worked.
I solved Samsung Xcover (S5690, Android 2.3.6) connection to a carkit on Renault Laguna 3.
Steps used:
1. I root phone;
2. I used ES File Explorer to access system files. In ES File Explorer settings I give root privileges.
3. I installed from Google Play program “Mount / system (rw / ro)” (free).
4. I run Mount/system (rw / ro) and I enabled "mount r/w". He is active several seconds, so it goes quickly to ES File Explorer.
5. I open ES File Explorer: --- / system / app /. I look for Bluetooth.apk and I renamed to bluetooth.apk.bak.
6. File bluetoothpbap ...... . apk does not start at all.
The biggest surprise was that the car recognizes the phone, contacts, media, everything.
I hope to work on other samsung phones (I think it's a general problem).
